We had a late lunch after going downtown at noon to see the McCartney Photo exhibit at the Frisk. We ate there instead of doing take out so we were able to try the soup dumplings. We also did pan-fried dumplings, Beef Noodle Soup, popcorn chicken and one of the chicken Bao's. Everything was hot and delicious. And for the money the servings were generous and we had our food quickly. And the Nolensville location is three miles from our house. Can't beat that for convenient. We probably will be trying it for takeout next time. Glad to have dumplings in close proximity. read more

So we ordered takeout from Steam boys a few times now. The dumplings are excellent , especially the spicy ones with chili oil , scallions , cilantro and black vinegar. 10/10. Hands down one of the most authentic dumpling and beef noodle soup spots in the area. If you have not been to China and tried real comfort food then it's must try. Disappointing first visit despite having SUCH high hopes for this place, based on the recommendation of friends. Soup dumplings & bao are probably one of my favorite foods and I haven't found a place that meets my fix when I have a craving in Nashville. For this visit, I got an order (comes with 2) of the pan seared vegan bao. The good: online ordering via Toast was super easy, parking plentiful, the restaurant new & clean , and my order was waiting packed (but still hot) as soon as I went into pick it up. The not so good: Even easy parking couldn't make up for the terrible taste of the bao, which was extremely greasy on the outside and had filling (mostly cabbage with a lone pea or piece of carrot occasionally) SO SALTY, I found it completely uneatable. I paid $0.50 for "extra" dumpling sauce & vinegar but only got one of each, so there was no "extra" sauce available. I wasn't expecting the level of authenticity I'd find in a larger city, but it was such a downer not to be able to even eat the bao. My love of bao and soup dumplings and belief in the reviews of my friends will have me trying this place again at some point in the future... just hope that visit can be more promising. read more

I came back with my boyfriend and had a way better experience this time around! You order your food at front and sit down with a number card. As you wait, there is a TV playing Korean dramas that you can watch. The interior of the restaurant is very cute and trendy. You do have to get up from your seat to grab napkins and water. The zha jiang noodles are simply noodles mixed with a yummy meat sauce. It comes with hot chili oil on the side if you want to add a kick. Apart from the noodles being slightly over cooked and soft, it was absolutely delicious. The seared pork baos were served hot with a beautiful crust on the bottom. My only complaint is that the outside of the bao was a bit oily. Otherwise, they were very juicy and flavorful. We also ordered matcha milk bubble tea and strawberry milk bubble tea, which were both awesome. I noticed they have $18 all you can eat dumpling Tuesdays, which caught my interest and will have me visiting some Tuesday in the near future. read more

Only had the bubble tea here after a birthday dinner, but it was 5 star worthy so I had to drop them a review. Atmosphere is really trendy and cool for the area, and you can even watch them make the dumplings if you'd like. We tried the coffee and coconut bubble teas with tapioca and they are 20oz tall boys. The coffee was basically a cold latte with tapioca and was fantastic. The coconut was pretty good as well. Also, the food that went by looked really good so we will be coming back to get some steamed bao's. read more

I dined at Steamboys on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 around 6:30 pm. I'm a regular at the Germantown location so I have certain expectations to be met here. Despite how recently this location opened and busy they are, I think the food still delivered in the same quality as Germantown location. Their clean, wooden interior design looked exactly the same. Tables are spaced out as normal, so it doesn't look like social distancing or limited capacity were enforced. The steamed baos were good. The pork filling inside was seasoned well. I wished the consistency of the buns themselves were lighter and a little less doughy; however, they were folded nicely. The soup dumplings tasted flavorful, but they were over steamed as the dumplings began to lose their shape. The hot dumpling bowl and pork and shrimp dumplings were cooked well and had nice flavors. The service was average considering how busy they were. Food came out quickly, but other stuff like utensils and napkins were forgotten. But all was forgiven due to quick customer service recovery. Overall, I highly recommend this place for some fresh homemade baos and dumplings. read more

So the ambiance of this cute shop was lovely and the staff was kind but the food left something to be desired. The steam buns were delicious, would love if they offered a kids option with no meat or veggies. I ordered hot tea which was scalding sadly the taste was off because of it. I ordered 12/19/24 from the Nollensville location via Uber Eats...the beef noodle soup with high hopes. The broth was bland. The beef was soft, but also bland, and as if it had been previously frozen. I was looking forward to bok choy and instead had romaine lettuce. Thats not an appropriate substitute. I ordered the fried chicken and rice bowl. The fried chicken had a very stale smell, which is odd, and the chicken was dry. The chicken dumplings were good. Tasted how I hoped they would. Steamboys is not only one of our favorite restaurants since moving to the area, it is one of favorites of all time. The reason being it's simple and delicious. They don't go over the top, they have a very limited menu and they do it perfect every time. The atmosphere is super chill and the staff is always awesome. Mike remembered us from coming the first time about two years ago. We always order the beef shank noodle soup with medium spice, boba milk black tea, and a chicken gua bao. It's always delicious. I'm really at 3.5 but I'll round up. I wanted to love this place. Going for dim sum in Chicago on Sundays growing up is a favorite memory. This place falls short, unfortunately. We tried a little bit of everything. The boiled dumplings were a lot better than the pan fried. The pan fried bao buns beat the steamed (although we didn't care for the gua bao at all with the not crispy pork belly. The soup dumplings were a total miss in our book. In Tennessee for vacation and looked up some Asian places to eat at and found Steamboys. Based off the pictures I was pleased to see that everything was homemade, however I wasn't happy with the location or food. The location is in the corner of a block surrounded by industrial buildings. The place itself was nice but I wasn't comfortable with the area. The food was good but personally it lacked flavor. We got "The Goods" with the Steamed Juicy Pork Bao and the Handcrafted Pork & Shrimp Dumplings and we also got Xiao Long Bao. The Steamed Juicy Pork Bao was not worth the price for the portion and the Xiao Long Bao was fragile and it wasn't very soupy. I've had Xiao Long Bao from other dumpling places before and they were always bouncy when being picked up but when I picked these up they broke easily, and they was filled with lots of soup, enough to fill the spoon. Flavor wise it wasn't bland but it wasn't outstanding. It tasted like any other dumplings/baos in my opinion. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. It comes highly recommended by my native Chinese sister-in-law. I ordered the seared chicken dumplings - they're not on the regular menu but were on the specials board, steamed veggie bao, and black tea bubble tea. I ate every last bite wishing I had more. The employees were incredibly kind and helpful. I was able to customize my bubble tea to have less sweeter added because I don't like it super sweet. I came at lunch on a Saturday and it was relatively empty, which was nice. I enjoyed a barstool by the window. Ample nearby parking. I can't wait to come back! I'll definitely try and come on a weekday at lunch to take advantage of the specials. Only complaint is the price. I spent $22 on my lunch. read more

The first time we came to Steam Boys in 2021 it was great! It was our go-to winter spot. Over the past year there hasn't been much consistency, specifically in the soup dumplings. Today was disappointing. The soup dumplings now come in an aluminum tin - leaving the dumplings with a metal taste. They also are paper thin making it impossible to dish out a dumpling without it breaking. The young lady with glasses was probably the worst part. From the beginning she seemed annoyed. When we asked her about the new tins she made it seem as if they are supposed to break and suggested eating them like an oyster! When she walked away she made a face, that was extremely rude and unprofessional. read more
