Stopped at Steam Whistle on the second day of my bachelor party. I'd been there before on previous trips and it was already one of our favorite stops in Toronto, but this trip blew all the previous ones out of the water. Staff was very helpful getting our large party seated inside and out of the rain. The food and drinks were great as always, but our waitress Amelia was the MVP. Not only did she provide solid recommendations for the rest of our weekend in Toronto, but she hooked us up with a gift from Steam Whistle as a "sponsor" for the bachelor party. Service was spotty. They couldn't seem to figure out if they actually had a table available, even though there were several empty spots at the patio section. Food came very quickly. Fish and chips plus a burger Fish was not cooked. I'm an East Coaster, so I know cooked fish from raw. The waitress tried to convince me that the fish was indeed cooked, that it looked this way because it was the type of fish it was. It was Haddock... yah. I know what it's supposed to look like, and no, there is no such thing as med rare fish. They cooked another portion. We took it to go. It was fully cooked this time. Quite delicious, as was the coleslaw. However, there was no apology. no gratuity...nada. I was not impressed, as an apology was all I truly wanted. Great food, service and atmosphere. If you want to grab a beer or a drink and get a quick bite to eat that tastes fantastic this is the place to go. Conveniently located by the steam railway museum and near the Aquarium, I had the fish and chips and it was amazing. The Haddock they used wasn't oily and not overly breaded. Stopped in for a drink while visiting Toronto. The service was amazing. Had to wait to try to get a table (they get busy and typically recommend a reservation) but very accommodating. Our waitress was also great and glasses staid full. I was really impressed with the food. I had the Longanisa Dawg. It says the sausages are made in house and makes a huge difference. I had the opportunity to check out Steam Whistle's Biergarten and let me tell you, it's worth checking out! Felt like I was in Europe without having to leave Toronto! While they have spacious outdoor seating, they will be opening their indoor dining space October 1st. Be sure to check it out! * The food and drinks were so good! For drinks, I got to enjoy their Caesar (extra spicy) and the Radler. Verdict - delicious and hydrating . For food, we got to enjoy: *Pretzel *German fries poutine *Garten chopped salad *Beef Schnitzel *Twelve hour pork hock *Roasted chicken *S'mores sundae *Seasonal crumble Everything was so good, perfectly cooked and seasoned and just overall delicious. We were a bit sceptical of this place given it's in a touristy area but we were pleasantly surprised. It leans into the whole beer garden vibe. With the holidays here they've decorated which adds to the cozy, fun atmosphere. We got here on a Saturday night around 7. It was lively but not too busy, we were seated right away. There was a hockey game on and some background music. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. And the beer and food were delicious. We were sold after our first bite of the pretzel. It's probably one of the better ones I've had, super soft and melts in your mouth. We ordered the unfiltered beer and a couple of entrees. I was impressed that they had a number of vegetarian friendly options, including the impossible burger. The reason for 3 instead of 4 stars is about halfway through our visit they shut off the game and transitioned to live music. This wouldn't have been an issue except the music was so loud we could hardly have a conversation (my Apple Watch also warned me a few times of the volume level). At this point we were stuck since we were waiting on food. The musician was great it was just too loud for the environment, especially given he was upstairs and out of sight. If nothing else a warning before we sat down would have been nice. read more

Pre-Pandemic review - experiences maybe difference due to social distancing protocols. This was a fun low key experience. If you are looking for a romantic intimate experience, this place isn't really the place for that. But it does make up for it in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. With its proximity to the Rogers Centre and other local attractions, so I would say make it a stop on for a fun date; since you do have a lot of options for activities within a stones throw. I made a reservation ahead of time, since I wanted to be guaranteed seating. But all tables are set up as bench seating, so expect to share your table with others unless you are with a large party. The food is by Food Dudes; so you know their food is really excellent. For what we ordered - the pork hock is definitely good as well as the spätzle. The pork hock is definitely big enough to share for two medium appetites with the spätzle to be comfortable filling. I think the only off note for us was the cider braised cabbage (not really to our taste). Service is pretty good with no complaints. But for a party of two including drinks - you really to get your money's worth; around $75 after taxes and tip. I look forward to enjoying their epic patio and food once we are more free to travel around and meet with friends again. read more

We came across the Biergarten as we were killing time for our room to be ready for check-in. And with this being our first stop in downtown we were all 3 impressed with the quality of service received. It was obvious every employee had the same idea- great customer service and it showed! Seeings how we only shared the pretzel I can't comment on much about the food or menu, only bummer was the lack of beers available. I would love to come back one day during our visit and try other menu items but no plans for that yet. However, the everything pretzel was just as tasty as pictured and our beers hit the spot for a little lunch treat. We are off to a great start in our vacation! read more

Stopped here twice while in town. Went once with my teenage daughter on a Thursday night and again the next night with my wife and daughter before a Jays game. My daughter really enjoyed the food and I enjoyed some drinks so much so that we came back with my wife when she got into town. We almost passed up this gem because of the lacking stars. We decided not to listen to the reviews because sometimes people get it wrong. We were so happy we did! The staff was friendly and accommodating for our 15 month old. Food was great and beer delicious. We had the fish & chips, the pork hock (enough for two people). The batter on the fish was light and golden perfection. The fish was tender, moist, and flaky. The pork hock was ginormous! Crispy delicious skin with a moist flavorful inside. In Germany it's typically not smoked, so it was surprising flavor. The only thing that was underwhelming was the gravy. It was very watery and almost a ham taste. We will definitely be back when we come to Canada next time. read more

I've done the Steam Whistle tour three times. Always happens when friends are in from out of town, but whatever the reason is it's always good. The first two visits were much the same. Did the six pack tour then went and drank the beers. But this time, the tour was different AND, they now have a Bier garten! Its very sleek and a much cooler use of space than the previous incarnation which was their bottling facility. The tour also took us to new spots including a video room, the offices and a new merchandise stop. But the highlight and the review is about the Bier Garten! First off, great menu. I'm a big fan of German food and beer halls/gartens in general, but the menu is good. I do find it mildly puzzling how most German restaurants don't have spaezle and schnitzel together as I had it when living in Germany, but that seems pretty universal. Friend got the aforementioned spaezle with cheese and bacon and breadcrumbs. It was okay, not fantastic. Maybe it's because I've never had spaezle with cheese. Still good. I had the fish and chips. It's excellent. The portion sizes tend to vary, but the quality of fish was really good as were the fries. The coleslaw was also very good. Love me some good ' slaw! Prices are a bit high, and items that would often be combined don't always seem to be here. But the food is tasty and it's definitely a great addition to the brewery! Go check it out! read more

Waited 10 minutes after being seated as we watched 3 different servers pass our table. I noticed a person with a steam whistle shirt approach the hostess station and talking to the hostess and the servers. As he was walking past, I asked for his assistance. He apologized for the wait and took our order. Unfortunately, the menu online is different from the menu at the restaurant and they didn't have fish and chips.
