I ordered 2 slabs from Berkshire Products, Inc. When I called to place my order, I asked the…read moresaleslady what the moisture content of the wood was (this is important - I can't use a slab that has more than a 9% moisture content). The saleslady told me the slabs had a moisture content of 6-8%. So, I placed my order. When I received the slabs, I checked their moisture content with my moisture meter. The moisture content was as high as 11% in one of the slabs and 14.3% in the other (ridiculously high). Just to be sure my moisture meter was accurate, I took both slabs to a local business that sells wood in Nashville, TN (where I live) and asked them if they would double check the moisture content of the slabs. They got the exact same readings I did: 11-14.3%. I called Berkshire and spoke with a lady named Allison. I told her about the moisture content in the wood and told her that the saleslady told me the moisture was 6-8% (not even close). Allison told me to ship the slabs back to Berkshire so they could put the slabs back in the kiln. I did that! A month later, Allison called me and told me my slabs were dry (6-8% she told me) and they would be shipping them back to me in the morning. Yesterday, I received the slabs and checked the moisture of both slabs. Slab #1: 6-10%. Slab #2: 9-11.8%. This morning, I took both slabs back to the place I took them last time and they double checked my moisture content: Same Results. I now have 2 slabs that have inconvenienced me beyond explanation (picking them up at the carriers, uncrating them, checking their moisture content, taking them somewhere to double check the moisture content readings, re-crating them, taking them back to the carriers, picking them back up again, uncrating them, checking the moisture content, taking them somewhere that double checked the moisture content readings.... enough.) Ordering these slabs from Berkshire has been a nightmare. I certainly won't be purchasing anymore wood from Berkshire Products. Awful.
