Honest review: Been working out here for years the staff is awesome however the machines are ancient and mostly falling apart but the parking lot is far worst the machines. Honestly to park at this business you have to drive over massive holes in the ground like your storming Normandy. If they update the equipment and redo the parking lot this place is 5/5 for now it's a solid 2.5. read more

Could there be a better gym? I moved 30 minutes away and I still come here everyday. A whole floor of cardio and a huge upstairs with machines and free weights. In the basement they have boxing and Olympic lifting focused stations. They have all the machines I want to use. They even have a pullover machine which I haven't seen in any other gyms. They offer me no BS pricing and I can pay for the whole year at a reasonable price. I could do that at Planet Fitness also but I don't like Planet Fitness because they have their whole lunk alarm policy and a dress code. Sometimes if you're lifting heavy you may need to drop weights. I try not to but no one complains here if it happens and there is no dress code. A dress code at a gym is insane by the way. If I want to wear jeans at a place I pay for and it's not hurting anyone else why shouldn't I be able to? They also are the only place around that sells 3D energy drinks. They sell protein bars and stuff behind the counter. They offer tanning and MMA class upstairs in the back. They built an in gym protein/supplement shop a while ago that isn't part of the gym but is located in the gym which is convenient. The only problem is so many people go here it can be hard to find parking sometimes. Love this gym. Don't ever change anything Steel Beach. read more

OK so I went to try this gym with my friend because we're looking for a new gym to join. First impressions are that the gym does have a lot of equipment that a lot of other gyms do not however, the equipment is very spread out throughout the three floors. You really do have to think about what direction you want to take your work-out before getting there if not, it will be a little hard and confusing to navigate the different areas of the gym . I'd give cleanliness a 3.3 as I didn't see many areas of cleaning spray and towels to clean off machinery The music being played was not good.. I feel like a lot of the machines for cardio were a little unstable for me. The overall energy just wasn't there for my friend and I and I definitely know that's a personal thing. I believed that the squat racks at the bottom floor were amazing up until I saw a dog just walking around with its owner and the owner playing fetch with the dog. I thought that was really unsanitary and it made me uncomfortable to think that I was stretching on the turf area and there's a dog that just hangs out because the person playing with the dog definitely seemed to work there. Overall a nice gym, but not the one for me. I have experienced different gyms that have people that go with their support animals and they are not walking around the entire gym, interrupting workouts. Overall definitely a good gym that has a lot of equipment. There was just a few things that I experienced that I did not like would definitely love to try a different gym with a knife, squat rack area like the one that they have in their gym. read more

Steel Beach is an "old school" gym. It's a sprawling, no-nonsense facility with tons of equipment and lots of space. You can imagine Rocky Balboa training at Steel Beach. It has everything you need for serious training, but it's also relaxed with friendly staff. Some gyms are more style than content, but Steel Beach skips the glitter and simply provides everything you need to train. Three thumbs up! read more

There are gyms that are certainly closer. Edge fitness, planet fitness, and my personal favorite, fitness pizza in my mouth. Ok, that last one might not exist, but no stealing, I thought of that. Anyways... Steel Beach is an amazing gym to go to. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. As soon as I go in, it's "oh hey Mike! How are you?". Just that little interaction makes me feel welcome. They truly value each and every member that walks through the door. The gym looks grungy from the outside, but just like people, never judge a book by its cover. It's immaculate inside. Always clean, up to date gym equipment (including what I like to call the baby deer simulator: a cardio machine that has a lot of free movement so trying that makes you feel like a fawn), and just a relaxed atmosphere. As stated in other reviews, the main level is cardio, basement is CrossFit and powerlifting, and the top floor is all the weights and class area. If there's something that interests you, they probably have it there in some shape or another. From the customer service standpoint, Jamie, Dan, and the rest of the staff are beyond words. I had to take time off due to mental issues, post surgical, car issues, whatever. They will work with you to figure out a plan to make sure things are right and both parties are happy. They work incredibly hard and are so kind and helpful. There's no place like home, and my home is Steel Beach! read more

It's been 8 years since the last time I set foot in any gym. After all the aggravation, inconvenience or other gyms and most annoying of all, the harassment by men, I avoided gyms for years. When I went to sign up I almost had a panic attack but right away I was made to feel comfortable. The staff were really nice people and not stuck up at all. I got a tour that day and the gym is everything you could ever ask for. So much equipment, multiple machines of anything you want, no waiting for any of the machines or crowding. 5 stair masters. I've never been to a gym with that many. All the weights you could ever want. There are classes upstairs including yoga that are included in a basic membership, tanning, a training center, a recovery room with sauna, cryotherapy, a women's only room, and plenty of locker space. I think I'm even leaving some things out. This membership is only $30 a month by the way. Today I went for my first workout. I was feeling so nervous that people were going to stare, judge me, or approach me but everyone minded their own business. It was incredible. Everyone truly is there to work out. I'm so glad I signed up. read more

So much equipment, all great stuff! The gym itself is a little dirty and the manager Dustin took advantage of my wife's membership. She was a member for more then one year after year one they don't make you resign paperwork so she canceled halfway through year 2 he continued to charge her and when she informed the bank he sent her to collections. No cool! He just lost a chance of her ever coming back and she is the owner of a very busy salon so i am sure people will hear about this 20.00 mistake he made! This gym has great hours, and a good variety of machines and equipment, pretty much all the equipment you can ask for. They also offer classes which are great. They have too many members for the size of their location and amount of equipment. I arrived 2 minutes late to a body sculpt class due to traffic and was told to leave because they didn't want explain what I missed- it was warm up push ups not the middle of class. I went downstairs to do cardio and every machine except a few bikes were taken. I'm not paying for a gym I can't even use. I left that day and never went back except to cancel. The parking lot is a whole other mess. Dangerous, people park ANYWHERE and block others in, make it impossible to safely see or navigate the lot. Surprised I haven't seen an accident yet. One star only because yoga with Lisa was relaxing. But find another gym, they don't care about accommodating members. Or they should close membership when they know they can't accommodate everyone. I don't have time to watch people work out for 20 minutes until something frees up. read more

Been a member at World Gym for close to 20 years! Yep that's right 20 years! Guess that says it all!!! Remember the days of one floor, no AC and the smell of the brewery beneath the gym!!! So much has changed and in a good way! Love the dedicated staff, members and how close it is to my home!!! Now doing their CrossFit and the coaches are the best as well as the workouts! They really know their stuff and are always observing, making corrections and pushing you to do your best! 20 years flew by and I hope to be there for another 20!!!! read more

I have been a member for 5 years - I tell everyone the same thing when asked what I think. It's a hardcore, no bs gym. It's no Planet Fitness half-assed gym. Cardio on the first level, weights and machines on the second level. It's HOT in the summer - windows are sweating because there's no AC, just fans (longtime members including me love this)! Yes, it's busy at 5pm - what gym do you go to isn't? Yes, parking is a pain in the ass and you have to be creative sometimes. Staff is great, members are great, variety of machines and atmosphere is great. If you're serious about getting after it, World Gym is a bad ass choice. read more

When you think of your warehouse style gym, with fans and semi-dingy windows, this is your place. Don't get me wrong, despite the outer appearance, the place is very well maintained, and clean. There are several stations for you to sanitize your hands and paper towels to wipe down your machines after use. The set-up is a little different than what I was used to at LA Fitness, but once you get used to it, you will love every minute of it. The Main floor is strictly cardio: two rows of treadmills, two rows of bikes (recumbent and regular), and ellipticals, stair masters, and what my girlfriend calls "The Death Machines" in the back. the top floor is for weight training. to the right of the staircase are the assisted machines. They are mainly for upper body work. The upstairs locker rooms are also in this area. to the left of the stairs is the area with the free weights, and compound machines. you get more variety in workouts in this section, so I would recommend it if you are looking to focus on muscle growth. The one thing I definitely loved about the gym is the lack of personal trainers constantly hounding you. But, watch out for the guys who think they invented weight training. I've had two encounters so far, and both times my sets were thrown off. My advice is keep a pair of headphones handy. I also noticed a fair number of Juicers that come midday (usually around 11 or 12). I was actually surprised. they keep to themselves alot more than I would have guessed. Don't let them intimidate you. Even if you see a TapOut, don't be afraid to go over and use the machines. The last thing I'll mention is the locker rooms. There are two sets; one on the first floor in front of the treadmills, and another on the top floor near the weight macines. Both are extremely clean, although, for obvious reasons, I haven't been in the Women's room. Be warned though. the bottom set of lockers is directly under the free weights. So, if you experience the occassional *Grunt*lift*grunt again* followed by a horrendous thud that shakes the whole room, don't be alarmed. The world isn't ending...The Juicers are in. overall, I would highly recommend this gym to any type of individual. People generally keep to themselves. You don't get too many of the types of people that think that you're horrible if you don't have the body to be in one of those crappy 2am infomercials. Whether you are hardcore training, looking to lose the tummy, or just trying to maintain, this is definitely the place you need to be. read more

I love this gym because of the warehouse/factory look. There's plenty of space for everyone- plenty of room on the cardio deck with new treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes. The second floor is full of weightlifting. I like the 25$ no-contract option because I'm someone who moves a lot. Definitely a lot better than Planet Fitness. read more

Staff was friendly and the building itself is pretty cool because it's an old warehouse. The 1st floor which is all cardio is very nice and well laid out, but the upstairs is a complete disaster. I was going to sign up after my 1st day there but after working out in the weight area I realized I can't deal with the mess. There is no organization, weight plates are scattered EVERYWHERE. There are no racks really to rack your weights and every machine weights left on so you never know if it's being used or not. The plates are all different, some rubber some metal but they're mixed so you have to hunt to find what you need. Machines are all very very old and some seem salvaged from old planet fitnesses. Just a mess, I spent at least an extra 30 min. finding the weights I actually needed. Definitely do not recommend. read more

WORLD GYM IS A RACKET. There is NEVER any parking...you LITERALLY must park in a muddy ditch to work out at this place. The building looks like an abandoned warehouse-- dingy, no air-conditioning, and miniscule workout rooms for the classes. It is extremely awkward trying to do yoga when you actually have to overlap your yoga mats...too many downward dogs happening in too few square feet of space. Like to do Zumba? Awesome....so do the 600 other housewives bumping into each other in that closet of a room. The only positive thing i can say about this gym is that the instructors they employ are exceptional. They can actually make doing crunches quasi-fun...IF you can get enough floor space to do them. If you happen to move or want to save money ($25 a month adds up!), nothing short of an act of God will convince these people to cancel your membership. I began this process 3 years ago, and STILL have not be able to cancel it. I called numerous times (and they repeatedly hung up on me!), sent multiple letters and e-mails (no reply), and even complained to corporate (again, no reply)--and they STILL are taking out $25 a month! I went in person and the boss gave me a one-man car salesman show trying to convince me to stay with the gym, even after I explained I had moved 2 hours away. I was in there for 30 minutes watching him wave the membership cancellation paperwork in my face, only to snatch it away with another sales-pitch or snarky comment about my weight/fitness, "Are you SURE you REALLY want to stop hitting the gym? Most people like you come into my office to GET a membership for the new year." I wear a size 6 and I am fine with my body, but still felt belittled beyond belief. I finally gave up and left his office in angry tears. I am so disgusted with their method of business, I don't even want to go back and subject myself to him again. I honestly do not know how to prevent them from taking money out of my account; the last time I tried to halt payments, they called a collection agency on me after one month. I am never the kind to complain like this, but I just thought I would provide fair warning about this gym-chain. I wish someone had told me. read more

If you're looking for a fun, friendly atmosphere that is suited for all fitness levels then THIS is your gym! For one, the staff is always courteous and very helpful - they make you feel like the gym is your home away from home and always greet you with a smile. Second, the place is HUGE! There are 3 floors including a giant cardio are with seemingly unlimited equipment, a big free weight area if you're into lifting weights, a nice quiet circuit area, and their group exercise room is enormous - it never feels crowded and I feel like I have tons of personal space. In addition to the regular gym, they also offer guided training via their facility IAP. I did the two week trial over a year and a half ago and have been hooked ever since! The coaching staff that they have are very knowledgable and have helped me reach my fitness goals. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend World Gym no matter what your goals or fitness levels are. They have something for everyone and make working out fun! read more

Honestly the WORST business I have associated myself with. I highly recommend going ANYWHERE else. Not only is the parking lot a nightmare, and the staff useless, but the manager, Dustin totally took advantage of my membership. I only had a membership from March and cancelled in April (one day after my second payment), and was told by a creepy employee that I would be charged one more time, which on my copy of the membership cancellation papers says: balance due: $24.95. A month later in May, I was looking through my bank account history and it said that the world gym took out $68.01 from my bank account which completely blind sided me!! I was told that my balance was 24.95! Not to mind you that when I initially signed up, I went down to the world gym where I was asked for my phone number so that Dustin could call me to sign me up because he was not in. About 2 hours later I finally received a phone call from him and asked if I could come in to sign up for a membership, however he told me it would be easier on him if we just did it over the phone. He told me that it would cost me $50.01 to sign up (24.95 for the month, and the rest for maintenance fees and what not). When I saw that they had taken that much from my account, I called and asked them why they took that much out, because from what I was told, the initial $50.01 was for maintenance fees, but Dustin had told me that he would not refund my money because the $68.01 included maintenance fees and my last monthly payment. I explained to him that I already paid for the maintenance fee when I first signed up, and that on my copy of my cancellation papers it said my only balance due was $24.95. Dustin had no empathy and refused to refund the second maintenance fee that I was charged. WORST business. If you are smart you will go anywhere else and not associate yourself with them!!
