Forget the tea, these guys are mask nazis. If you want tea, get it to go. We ordered the pumpkin spice chai and a maple bubble tea, both alright, but I've had better. Not the issue. The issue was, we got a table to the side and were talking and relaxing, but the guy who took our order came over and demanded that we wear our masks between sips, so we obliged and put them back on, but after awhile we left them hanging on our ears and he comes back to tell us we had to wear our masks or leave. Dude! We are just enjoying our tea and the tables are 6 feet apart. Seriously? Have you been to any other restaurant in bozeman? The cooks never wear masks, so I hope you never eat out. And every other restaurant doesn't give a shit if you wear a mask once you're seated. Not coming back because y'all hassled me so much. No amount of coupons or apologies will change my mind. This review is ONLY about the milk tea boba. The milk tea was meh; I think it needed to be creamier. I did appreciate that it wasn't crazy sweet, but I don't like my milk tea's too sweet. The boba balls were overcooked and not sweet as they should be. The customer service was great and the ambiance of the place seemed cool, but I was very disappointed by the $4 milk tea boba. And I heart the NW mini-tea empire known as Townshends which I first experienced during a food road trip to PDX and I've hooked ever since. Menu = dozens of loose leaf teas here including green, black, oolong, herbal, white, chai available by the cup, pot or take home tin. Oh and they have their own kombucha brand, plus they do bubble teas too if that's more your thang. Hands down, the best Chai Latte in Bozeman. I happened upon this shop while on a walk. Choose your tea for a chai. About 3-4 to choose from. Type of milk. Etc. Be prepared to wait. They make it properly and it will appear in about 10 minutes. Seating area is comfortable and staff very friendly. If you order to stay, comes in a nice tea pot and cool ceramic hand mug. Yesterday we were in Bozeman, Montana for a day trip. Before we headed home, we walked to Townshend's Teahouse where I ordered two passion fruit bubble teas with aloe jellies and two strawberry bubble teas with aloe jellies with whole milk. I stood in line and ordered our tea in about 10 minutes. I spent another 25 minutes waiting for our tea. After 25 minutes I asked for our tea that had been sitting on the counter for about five minutes. The lady at the register told me she is waiting for the young man to bring it out to us. After waiting about five more minutes, I again asked for our teas. The lady asked me what I ordered so I told her. Turns out they only made three of our four drinks, so I had to wait even longer since she said they would start working on it right away. This post was really hard to write because until now we have loved their bubble teas and received great service. 45 minutes to get tea is ridiculous. Our family was not at all happy. The milk in the bubble tea looked like it was starting to curdle. I realize they get busy but when you have drinks sitting on your counter for at least five minutes and you are the one who delivers orders to people, don't keep taking orders and make your customers who have already paid wait longer then they have to. Our visit to this teahouse took so long that it took time away from us exploring downtown Bozeman. read more

First time customer, I was walking down the street and saw this place. Bubble tea is my favorite treat, more than ice cream or pastries, so I was excited to try it. I got black milk bubble tea, which I got about 20 seconds after ordering, even though it usually takes a couple minutes at other places. This is the only bubble tea I've ever had that is almost undrinkable. The pearls are crunchy like uncooked rice, the tea tastes oversteeped and bitter, and the milk is unblended and sits on the top in chunks. If you want bubble tea, this is the last place to go. read more

It's great to have a Tea House in town. Great assortment of teas. I've traveled on several tea holidays to Nepal, Darjeeling, China and Japan. Everything from visiting and staying and tasting at the tea farmers fields, production factories and upscale tea houses. There is a little room for improvement IMO for this Tea house. Wherever we traveled, even on the smallest of tea farms, we were always served tea in porcelain. It tastes better than a paper cup (paper cup is fine if taking it to go). It also adds a little bit of class. Also, having access to the tea pot and loose leaf tea at your table with the timer going helps me regulate the brewing time so I can control the taste and re-steep the tea for another pot. I highly recommend customers go here for tea. I also want to see porcelain for orders in the tea house. I'd change my rating to 5 stars. Some basic Keemun and other non-flavored black tea is also my recommendation. read more

They have a great selection of teas. They also have "day old" pastries for a discount. I had one scone and it was yummy. They go quickly, so get there early. It can get busy later in the day, but in the mornings, you can have the place to yourself. Service has always been friendly. They sell Kombucha as well, but I haven't tried it yet. I'll try their flight of Kombucha offering soon. My favorite tea is milk oolong--buttery smooth. I didn't like the green tea pear though. read more

Townshend's is one of my favorite places to stop when I am downtown. I typically just get the boba tea, but occasionally get hot tea or kombucha. There are SO many options and varieties of tea and drinks to choose from. If you are newer to picking out tea, or not sure what to get, there is a recipe booklet that has some favorites in there. That was super helpful for me my first few trips there. The tea does take a very long time, however part of that is due to their process of making it all to perfection for each person, and also because it's usually packed in there. There is a sign that says please allow for extra time for us to make your tea, so you should expect to not get served as quickly as if you were at a fast food restaurant or bar even. One of my favorite parts of this place though, is their displays of local art. They rotate local artists' pieces and I thoroughly enjoy checking it out. Overall, love coming here and don't plan to quit anytime soon! read more

Absolutely love this place. The lose leaf tea selection is satisfactory. I appreciate the choices for building your own bubble tea, and the option to choose alternative milk for it. They offer Kombucha on tap or by the bottle. You can even purchase a growler and take it home. They have some great Yerba Mate. You can purchase a bag and take it home with you. They offer a selection of tea pots, cups, mugs, and other accessories for brewing at home. It's a great place to read, do homework, play a board game (they offer a few), socialize with a friend, or just sit and be. I bring my 6-year-old, and he loves it! I was really disappointed with my experience at this Teahouse. I ordered a basic milk tea with boba. I had to wait over 20 minutes for my tea. It was not crowded at all and there were only 2 people in front of me. I don't like to complain but I was unhappy with how long I had to wait. Also I thought it was over priced. I ordered a 16oz drink and it was $4.50. I'm from California and I have NEVER paid more than $4 for a 16oz boba. I normally spend about 3.50 on boba. This place melts my heart. I love tea and I also love kombucha, well guess what?! They have both, and their kombucha is on tap. AMAZING!!! I think it was a Thursday or Wednesday night we came here and they were having some dance classes or something in part of the teahouse. Townshend's teahouse is very popular and you might notice it on some bottles of tea or kombucha. I don't know how many of these locations there are but I don't think theres a lot. One of my friends I came with had never had kombucha and she absolutely loved it. They make their own brews and you can get bigger sizes to go or simply go in and fill up on tap vs buying more bottles etc. The amount of teas they have here is amazing.
