This was not the case. The hygienist was excellent and explained everything as she did things, let me watch Netflix on my iPhone, and asked if I needed breaks when I winced during the cleaning. Please don't let this last line deter you, the wincing is because I'm a wuss and again, deserved to be floss shamed. My new dentist, Dr. Walden was lovely, understanding, quick yet thorough and I definitely trust her with my smile. They're taking new patients, and if you have insurance they take the payment directly from your insurer which is mighty handy. Say cheese!

[gesturing vaguely to invisible problems on an Xray] Well, I'm sorry, but here's the list of 14 things that NEED to be done. You do have insurance, right?" This was so not my experience here. I explained that my insurance runs out in two weeks and I have a sore tooth, so they squeezed me in to a short-notice cancellation. Two points for them there. I arrived late (my bad - had the address wrong) but they still whisked me in fairly quickly, and everything was done quite efficiently. I've been going to older-fashioned dentists in Oakland, CA where the Xrays were still being done with that horrid cardboard stuff and put up on lightboxes, so the digital ones that went on the overhead TV were kinda cool. Nice to be at a 21st century office. Dr. Walden and the hygienist were both really, REALLY nice. They were friendly and helpful, explained what they were doing and what the jargon meant, and despite the fact that it's been about 18-20 months since I'd seen a dentist, were not patronizing or casting about for things to stick my insurance company on. Actually, Dr. Walden was quite complimentary on my oral hygiene - so many dentists are rude or patronizing about it. The only problem they did find made complete sense (the corner of a 30-year-old filling was broken off on the tooth that was sore - now I understand why the floss kept snapping!), and the receptionist offered to fit me in this afternoon to get it fixed. Like other reviewers have said, no one LIKES to go to the dentist, but when they make it an almost pleasant experience, you can dislike it so much less. Addendum: I'm back from having that filling fixed. I will admit that dental work and needles in my mouth terrify me - a previous experience with an awful dentist in California that left me unable to chew on the left side of my mouth for *three years* - and Dr. Walden was very, very considerate and careful dealing with an obviously extremely uncomfortable patient. She kept up a reassuring patter throughout, interrupting herself frequently to keep me in the loop about what she was doing, explaining, checking on me, at one point informing me that I might want to clench my hands just a wee bit less since one of my fingers was clearly losing circulation... I sent my neighbour to her recently, too. His assessment? "She rocks!" And how often, I ask you, does someone hear THAT about a dentist? However, it seemed odd that they said I had six cavities. They very patiently walked me through all the work that would need to be done, around $1,500 with my insurance. I'd never had a cavity before, it had only been a year since my last appointment, and nothing about my life had changed. I put off scheduling fillings and scheduled an appointment with a different dentist to get a second opinion. This was a year and a half ago and I've since seen two different dentists, neither of which said I had any cavities. When I mentioned this to one of them, she said that while there are two spots she's keeping an eye on, they don't need to be drilled. Because they haven't gone more than halfway through the enamel, they may resolve on their own. Dentistry is a subjective art. People have different thresholds for when they want to have fillings put in. I prefer to not drill holes in my teeth if it's not strictly necessary. You may feel differently. Just know that they set the threshold for drilling very high.

how do u guys a positve review..?? i came to durham dental…read moreneeding only a simple filling.. during covid where the dentists have to wear a mask.. however, the smelly owner was doing my filling, and with my mouth wide open.. he spat when he spoke and actually spat directly into my mouth... now, instead of fixing one single filling... they decided to drill it down to nothing.. but also sliced into the mouler next to it and refused to fix it. and because of that and not checking my bite like a professional.. i actually lost a third tooth... now my entire grill is all messed up and i can hear and feel a 4th tooth cracking.. i gave them a 1 of 5 cause theres no zero. and.. one day i was trying to ask for a perscription for simple ib profen at the desk where out of nowhere.. the smelly owner guy rushed the front desk where i was standing and rudly accused me of asking for peracept when i wasnt. they continued to be rude af to me. and the big blonde behind the desk had quite the mouth on her from what i can recall. thretening to call the police on me for no reason what so ever... i would never ever refefer these people who needs any kind of work nor a simple check up as there likely to spit directly into your mouth and not use deoderant. i can allways take this down. but i wont as these people did not want to listen. and did horrible dentistry.

My experiences with Doctor Shenouda have been very positive. He is a very skilled dentist, but is also willing to patiently work with you if there are any small concerns with making sure that your teeth are perfectly fitted. I had a tricky procedure with a tooth that took a few visits until I was completely satisfied with how I felt. Each time I came, Dr.Shenouda listened and worked until I was completely satisfied. The technicians have also been attentive and patient when taking care of you. My last visit with Neeha was exceptional. She was so thorough and careful to not cause any pain or discomfort. I had not visited for a while and she took extra time with removing all plaque. Finally all of the staff that greet you and make appointments are also very polite and kind. They are friendly and always greet you with a welcoming smile, and also say goodbye as if they cared that you visited. Michelle, who basically runs the office, is especially caring, and considerate. Ever since our company insurance had run out, Michele has been incredibly supportive, and always tries her best to accommodate in anyway that she can. I've been a customer since 2002…read more Dr Paul Stratis performed my work in 2002 and I can confirm his work is excellent and stood the test of time. I had two crowns put in and they both were of superior craftsmanship, and I've enjoyed trouble free teeth since then. I made one big mistake in roughly 2007 but switching to a dentist closer to my new work location at that time. Live went on. Come 2019 I had a tooth that presented some issues and suddenly needed a rush root canal. I had issues locating a provider and decide to call up my old dentist and ended up being placed with Dr Nick Stratis, Paul's son. I can safely say the talent runs in the family. Nick was expert in his needle work, he performed the root canal quickly and expertly (on a rear molar the work is much more detailed). I had a temporary filling and a prescription for antibiotics in case the infection spread. Things recovered quickly. I went back for more detailed work and my new crown. Like before the finishing work was quick, clean, and expertly performed. I love my new crown. Absolutely no tooth or jaw alignment issues. Lastly, I should mention no great dental office is complete without great tooth cleaning experts. All of the staff who clean my teeth have done excellent work, and leave me walking away with super clean teeth and gums. It shows every time I smile. I feel obligated to maintain a great dental health routine just to not disappoint the staff on my next visit. And finally staff who run the front counter and manage appointments have been professional, organized, and super accommodating, when I've had to make schedule adjustments. Maybe because of my last three surgeries in two years has affected my breathing, more mouth breathing vs nasal breathing. Dr. Goodman showed me how to swallow while smiling. I said this will be fun eating at restaurants! She laughed and said: no it's an exercise!! Haha!! We all laughed! Check ups are important. And the lovely Sandra at reception will be more than happy to book you in! 38 years I've been coming here. Dr. Goodman said: you have good teeth, they'll outlast you! After waiting almost three weeks I called the insurance company and they said there was no request submitted.
