Stopped in today with a designer purse that needed a minor shoulder strap stitching repair. While I previously lived in the the Baltimore area for 35 years, we were only passing through visiting friends on our way south. My leather bag had a strap that needed stitching. This place is AMAZING! I have a Coach Rogue 36 that was a grey tone and it had a small spot so, I had them dye it black for me. I am beyond THRILLED with the way it turned out! It looks incredible. They are wonderful! I first came in because I needed the straps on my newly purchased (used) Louis Vuitton bag replaced with longer ones. The LV store in Towson was unable to replace the straps with longer ones. Luckily, a fellow shopper recommended Stefan's. They had perfectly matching vachetta leather, and went above and beyond to match the gold stud fasteners, even ordering new ones. The results was absolutely beautiful, and well worth the wait (it took a while for the new studs to arrive). I've returned for other repairs (leather tag replacement on a bag, shoe stretching) and I won't go anywhere else. They are friendly, kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and do great work. read more

Wow. I'm not sure why everyone loves this guy so much. I've had nothing but bad experiences here! On one occasion I gave him a pair of royal blue shoes to fix the heels on. He went off on a tangent about other things wrong with the shoes that he wanted to repair. I said no, but when I came to pick them up, he had done those repairs and charged $$$. Wouldn't have been so bad, if I hadn't said no - or if my shoes didn't come back a dark, almost black shade. Another time, I brought in boots that were a different color each (they were expensive, but on clearance so I thought he could help match them!). The shoes were to match the left boot (a weird off gray color). And surprise! When I picked them up - they were the same color - dark gray almost black! If he had communicated about the color issues (I would have said no thanks) and not been so pushy about his services (which I did say "no thanks"), I would have given him 3 stars for effort. But ruining 2 pairs of shoes and charging for things I didn't want gives him a 1 star. Bottom line? He's obnoxious, does what he wants and doesn't listen to his customers. read more

Highly recommend going elsewhere if you want your shoes fixed in any reasonable amount of time. Story: I dropped off a pair of heels mid December to have some cosmetic alterations. I paid and was told it would be 2-3 weeks for completion of the job and that I would get a phone call saying when they were done. Perfect. 4 weeks go by, no phone call. I call and get directed to an automatic system where I cannot talk to anyone. At 5 weeks I take time off work and stop in. The own'er's wife is there and says the shoes have not been fixed, but they would absolutely be done by next week. 2 more weeks go by, no communication. I take more time off work to stop in and find that the store is unexpectedly closed with no mention that it would be closed online. Another week goes by, 8 weeks at this point, and I find time to stop in again. The shoes still have not been touched. I asked for them back and I will take my business elsewhere from now on. Absolutely not explanation or apology from the owner whatsoever. I hope this review prevents others from wasting their time at this non-responsive, unprofessional business. read more

This is the second time I've had shoes repaired at Stefan's, and I will not be returning. The first repair was years and years ago when Stefan was still in the show and I couldn't be happier with the results (my boots from the original fix are still in perfect condition!). However, the second repair left me beyond disappointed. I dropped off a leather jacket (small hole in the arm) and pair of boots (needed a complete resole) and did not hear back for MONTHS, I called more than once and was told my repairs were not complete, with no apology or timeline to expect them being finished. I finally went in and asked to get my belongings back and they could only find one item... I had to describe my boots to them to which they responded "these were done weeks ago, but we lost the ticket". Fine, I understand things get misplaced, but I shouldn't have been given the run around when I called multiple times... it's clear had i not gone in that I would have never received my property back. Flash forward and I'm happy with my jacket, but my boots are a travesty. It looks like the original soles were shaved down and a heel and toe tread were glued on. The original sole that needed to be replaced was still on the boot and was cracking and is now completely peeled off my $200 boots. This used to be shop with talented repairs, but I can't in good faith return or recommend this shop to others. read more

Avoid Stefan's Shoe Repair. I took a pair of shoes for repair and was told they would be ready in a "few days". I went back to pick up the shoes 13 days later and at first the employee could not find my shoes. Finally, he located them and they had not been repaired, or even begun to have been worked on. The employee said that some employees had been "out sick". The store ticket had my phone number, so the employees could have called me to tell me there would be a delay. I will not go there again and I advise the same. read more

What a nightmare. From the shoe drop off process to the pick up to the quality.... Awful. When I first went to drop off my fiances $300 brown leather Frye boots to be resoled, Stefan wasn't there. I was told to come back a week later on Monday. Okay, no problem. I come back on Monday, and they are closed Mondays-- why did you tell me to come on a Monday? I come on Tuesday to drop the boots off. I am told it will take 2 weeks. Okay, fine-- I just really need these fixed. I come back in 2 weeks, and now the hours have changed. They are closed EVERY SINGLE DAY this month except for FIVE hours on Saturday. I come on Saturday exactly when they are said to opened-- wait for 20minutes along with other customers, and leave because they took so long. My fiance shows up a few hours later to pick up his brown boots-- they can not find them because THEY ARE NOT BROWN ANYMORE..... Not only are they BLACK, but they GLUED a rubber sole on his boots-- no more wooden traditional sole that Frye is known for-- my fiance now has black rubber boots... Thanks Stefans...... I WILL NEVER RETURN. read more

I was a little annoyed with this place at first. They were very nice when I dropped off my shoes, but then getting back to pick them up was a problem due to their less-than-perfect hours. Granted, they don't have to set their hours according to my schedule, but it can be really difficult to get in when they close so early and are totally closed on certain days. When I went to pick up my shoes the first time, I planned to use a credit card. They don't accept them, however. I mean... It's 2013, you can scan credit cards using a smartphone! I didn't have $65 in cash on me, so I had to come back another day. Of course, when I got there the second time, I only had $63. I wanted to hit my head against the wall at this point, because they had had my shoes for about three weeks, but the kindly woman working there just took the $63 dollars and told me not to worry about the rest. That's the kind of thing that's great about small businesses, and it made my previous frustration seem a lot less annoying. The critical piece, though, were the shoes. I was really happy with the work they did (re-soling), and the price is pretty good. I'd definitely take shoes back here again. read more

Affordable, efficient. Brought my shoes, and my wife's for things like broken heels, zipper repair, and re-stitching the interior of some loafers. I've never expected too much could even be done, but Stefan always came up with a great fix to get some more life out of our favorite shoes. read more

First and last time I'll ever be giving this establishment my business. Dropped off the boots to be resoled on Monday to be picked up Friday. I come in on the following Wednesday. Boots still aren't ready and no apology. Only information given is that the machine broke? Thursday the boots are complete. 6 days late. Still no apology. No discount. I offered some friendly advice to let your customers know if a job will be a week late. Not only was the cobbler rude, he was defensive and angry at me. He literally walked away to the back of the shop. Run don't walk away from this establishment. With the condescending attitude they clearly don't need repeat costumers. read more

A couple of weeks ago I brought three very worn down pair of heels to Stefans hoping he could make them wearable again and not sound like tap shoes. I ended up talking to Stefan for atleast a half an hour about everything under the sun and to be honest he kind of made my day. I picked my three pairs of heels up a couple of days later and they all looked awesome almost as good as new. I'll be back soon with another bag of broken shoes for him to fix. This place was recommended to me from a trusted friend to have my leather riding boots re-soled. I went and spoke with them and they indicated no problem to do the job, would take a few days. The cost was extremely reasonable ($40) so I figured it was worth a shot. I picked them up and they looked great, but after wearing them twice (on light walking days) the sole of one heel started to come off. I took them back and they were kind of rude about it, no apology, just took the shoes back and said they would be ready the next day. They were much friendlier when I went to pick them up again, and explained they had to use a different type of heel on it. It looked much sturdier so I thought we were done. After having worn then a few more times, again on light walking days, I am now noticing that the sole on the normal part of the shoe is starting to come apart from the seam where it connects to the leather. Overall I can't really complain because it was only $40, but at the same time I expected the shoes to at least last a season rather than a couple of wears. Pretty frustrating that the work isn't good quality, but they may be better with smaller projects. read more

I have used Stefan's services a few times in the past with decent results. Unfortunately, Stefan has died and his replacements are not doing a great job. Perhaps this will change as they work through the kinks, but it's not a good situation right now. The last thing I brought here was ruined and I had to call about it every week for at least four weeks to try to get a status update on it. The woman who finally answered said she "didn't know how to contact" me even though I left my phone number when I dropped off my items and she promised to call when they were ready. More importantly, the belt that they attempted to shorten for me was destroyed. read more

My husband has a beautiful soft leather jacket that had somehow gotten a tear in its sleeve. Stefan's got it repaired well for a reasonable price. You can't see where the tear was at all - and while the texture of the leather feels a little different there, that's probably to be expected. read more

I never give reviews, I feel like such a jerk giving a bad review. Especially because I know this is a family owned business, but I feel like I should let other customers know of my experience. I have three favorite boots that i take very good care of and two of those are Frye boots. I've taken both Fryes to this cobbler, and sadly, neither we're resoled nicely. One Worse than the other. Which, is VERY upsetting.... when you consider that Frye's are so expensive, the resoling is expensive, and once you find "your" boot, you become very attached to it, just like your favorite style of jeans. The first repair was the heel and sole on my short ankle harness fryes. I honestly can't imagine a worse experience than this: all was fine and well-- they were fast, but then when I came to pick up my fryes, I noticed that the heel was completely wrong. The heel was inches shorter than the original, it was wide and clunky, and it was a completely different color and made of cheap materials. The stitching was also loose-- which means they didn't actually restitch the sole to the shoe. I just accepted it and didn't say anything because I didn't want to be a problem and figured I just didn't understand soling. However, the first time I wore them, while I was bartending, the whole heel of my left shoe came off and the right heel was clapping and both shoes were opening up from seem. I had to take off my shoes in the middle of work and tape them back together to finish my shift (which didn't work, they kept coming off). When I took it back to them they seemed to have an attitude about my disgruntledness. While there they pointed out the undone stitiches as the problem and then looked at me as if I were the culprit. I told them " Yes, the stitching is definitely the problem, which is one of the things I wanted you to fix, which is what happens when you get your shoes resoled, and the shortness of the heel also screwed up the arch of the shoe and put even more stress on the loose seam"-- I got them back, the heel is as short and shitty as the other one and they never restitch them. As soon as I saw them, I knew that it was wrong, but I honestly didn't want them to screw them up any more than they already had and they obviously had no idea how to actually fix them even though we talked about it. So, I took my shoes and said nothing- the heels haven't fallen off yet, but after three wears, the seam on both shoes had completely opemed up and seperated. So, I have completely stopped wearing them and don't even know what to do now to fix these $300 shoes that they destroyed. About a year later my tall black harness fryes started to ware. I tried to be very preemptive about fixing the ware of these shoes before it got to the heel. So when the rubber grip at the base of the heel (there was no damage to actual the heel) started to disapear, I took it here to ONLY replace the rubber on the end of the heel--- NOT THE WHOLE HEEL. I figured that this was such an easy simple replacement that they couldn't mess it up and that I should give them another shot. When I got my boots back, they had removed the whole original heel-- it was again, the shitty noticably shorter heel. It was chunky and made of cheap materials, and there was NO rubber end to the heel, so not only did they NOT listen to what I wanted AGAIN, but it's also so loud and clakety when I walk---it AGAIN, completely changed the wear of the boot and now my foot is twisted and spills over the side because there is no more arch. An expensive very upsetting experience--- I guess I have to send my boots to resole america. read more

Brought my favorite motorcycle boots, tall boots, and flamenco shoes in and got back 3 practically new pairs!! The motorcycle boots were ragged to say the least, worn heal, split seams, scuffed and they are now better than new. The tall boots were starting to wear a small hole on the sole and MAGIC - a new leather sole stitched on. The flamenco shoes straps had broken and VOILA - stitched to perfection. ALL done within the week for $100. And Stefan is lovely. read more
