Upon my arrival on the 116th street dental office, I was reluctant to ring the bell to the old…read moresecond floor office that resembled something from an abandoned accounting or legal office from the 60s or 70s - and someone forgot to do any dusting. The old wood panel walls and all the wrinkled magazines from months ago scattered everywhere did not make the place welcoming at all, that and the smell from the deli downstairs permeating to the dental office. While I waited for the dental assistant argue with someone over the phone about bills in her heavy Russian accent, I was finally led to the dental chair and was not impressed with the old equipment that seemed more from the cold war era let alone if it was sanitary to use in fear of tetanus at the very least. The dentist finally came in and introduced himself as Lawrence Weiss. He seemed OK enough - but that wasn't really my problem. While I sat with my mouth open and he inspected, I couldn't help stare at the old spittle on the walls and the old grimy equipment in the place while he hovered over inspecting, his beard was dirty with beard dandruff and pretty much made the entire experience resulting to hating dentists for many years to come - not kidding. As for the actual dental work - i never went back to finish the following treatment - he wasn't very good at that either. I went somewhere else to finish my treatment. Needless to say this Dirty Dentist above the Deli does not get my recommendation.

Nice…read morereceptionist and nice man but somehow this office DR.R Shure DDS is closed and has sold to the new dentist owner John J Roche and the receptionist is friendly and named Donna, but she could be the wife of Dr Shure which used to anchor the office space. Nice office and nice operation room with a computer and 2 x-ray machine and this is closer to a eye doctor that my mom know of when she used to work at her station at Rockaway park. Phone number is the same and the office did some renovation, similar dentist business to Dr.Shure but it is under a new owner name and its job title is different from Dr. Shure job title.

Unfortunately my body rejected the implant, and the implanted tooth needed to be removed (It's extremely rare, but it does happen). We figured this out after two weeks of excruciating pain. During the 2 weeks, I was in constant contact with the office and Dr. Sutter. Never once did I feel like I was imposing or bothering them. I needed to wait four more months to try again. This week I went back to have the implant done again. Dr. Sutter tried a new type of metal on the tooth, and it looks like it worked. I am writing this to show what kind of dentist Dr. Sutter is. The implant reject it was no fault of the doctor . Occasionally people have allergies and you don't know it until you try. He is the ultimate professional. A wonderful bedside manner, considerate, gentle, as well as, in my opinion a great surgeon. Most people hate dentists, but if you are going to have surgery, he is the person to go to.

She emailed me the paperwork so it would be completed by the time I got to my appointment. I was taken in within a few minutes. Dr Sutter was one of the kindest dentists that I have ever met. His friendliness and attentiveness put me at ease, which for me is almost impossible at the dentist. I had explained my problem about my tooth falling out as an implant when it turned out to be a post in which case I should have seen my regular dentist. Dr Sutter took X-rays and cemented the tooth back in to hold temporarily. He only charged me for the consult and gave me a copy of the X-ray to take with me. If I ever need an oral surgeon I know where to go.

Unfortunately, I needed five teeth extracted. not only did I not feel a thing but she was so quick and fast. The whole experience was actually much better than I could ever imagine. Her bedside manner is amazing. She called after each extraction to follow up to see if I was OK. By the time you sit in the chair for the time, the tooth was extracted. It seems like five minutes. The last time I was there I saw Dr. Oluremi Ogunsanya for a consultation, and I have to say it was among the most unpleasant encounters I have ever had with a medical professional. Dr. Remi, as he was introduced to me, badgered me, treated me like a child, questioned my referring dentist's diagnosis/credentials and just generally acted like a rude, arrogant teenager. He never even looked in my mouth. I ended up getting my referral back and going to a place that is way less convenient simply because a) if I want to get yelled at, I will ask my boss to extract my tooth, b) he seemed pissed off at me in a way that felt almost personal, although based on other reviews out there, it appears to just be the way he is, and c) I didn't want to give him any of my money. When I went back for the referral and a copy of my X-rays, I could tell from the front desk employees that I was not the first, even though I never said a word about why. And I see other reviews right here on Yelp that have to be about this same doctor. Dr. Amrani is great, but I would be wary of Dr. Ogunsanya.

Unfortunately they accept limited insurance plans, thus in my recent adult life I am unable to continue my dental visits in maintaining a consistent medical history with them. Very cool fish tank too in the waiting room with a blenny Dr. Rogoff secured himself on a dive. I attached a pic of the cute blenny with its cilli (those antennae-like protrusions). So cool to find a fellow diver who's also a great dentist! I asked a bunch of people for a recommendation & everyone said Dr. Rogoff. It's now clear to me why everyone recommended him. I now highly recommend him too!

They are often booked up, b/c finding a great dentist is often a chore. it is worth the wait, trust me.
