The school was flexible about our unusual attendance arrangement, though understandably, it didn't cost much less for a half day slot vs. full day. They always made her feel welcome when she came in mid-day. She really loved it there, despite being a kid who chafes at rules at home - she really thrived in that environment. Teacher Angela was fantastic and they quickly gave my child appropriate work for her level since she started already knowing how to read and being able to do basic addition and subtraction. Their written evals were detailed and helpful, and I felt like they really got to know my child in a short time. Their summer program was fantastic and their extended care option was flexible for the times we needed a little extra care. They also had a fantastic "Parents Night Out" where they also welcomed siblings, and we took advantage of that a few times. This is a true Montessori, where kids are expected to learn how to be self-directed. We came from less-rigid Montessori schools, so getting used to the strict dress code was hard for us as parents, but my daughter was fine with it. Our daughter entered a rigorous Mandarin immersion program the next year in 1st grade, and Madrone prepared her VERY well for it. I'd highly recommend it if you are open to a more academic environment for your pre-K/kindergartner and want to encourage independence.

You can truly tell they care about the children as individuals. Prior to this, he attended another daycare where it felt like the teachers didn't really know him or pay attention to his needs and as parents, we could feel that. The difference here is night and day. My son is happy, comfortable, and clearly feels safe, which means everything to us. The teachers are always communicative and collaborative, working with us on what's working (or not working) for our toddler. We genuinely feel like we're part of a team when it comes to his care and development. The front office staff also deserves a shout-out, they are consistently kind and understanding whenever we have questions or special requests for our son. I appreciate their attentiveness to us as parents. We're so grateful to have found this daycare and would absolutely recommend it to other families looking for a caring, supportive environment for their child.

Every school will have critique coming from families, including from us. But, admin staff and teachers have always been open in having discussions on ways they can improve, how they can correct an issue, and how they can support our family and son's learning and social development. Open communication and a plan of action or improvement are wha we seek with any issues that we bring up, and the staff has always met these expectations. Our son has grown attached to his pre-school and pre-K teachers. So much so that he says goodbye to his old teachers everyday during pick ups. I implore the site mgr to correct this above all things - this is a school for heaven's sake. I have info packets from four local Montessori programs laid out in front of me and not one mirror such strict and dare I say prestigious policies. Sundance has mandatory "volunteer" hours or you must pay an "opt out" fee. A very unfriendly withdrawal policy (Note a 30 day notification necessary - not including weekends and holidays, holidays which are not counted although you pay for might I add. This is just one among a very long, twisting list of roadblocks to getting your money back). Also the most expensive registration, materials and app fees of any Montessori in the area as best as my research can tell. The absolute clincher for me is the application process. I'm afraid with no other Montessori do they project such a prestigious attitude about "invitation" requirements to register after teacher/director/parent/child interviews and nonrefundable fees, of which it's stated constantly "is not a guarantee of acceptance." What could possibly be on a toddlers application that would constitute refusal? I can only conclude they are judging in other areas of which I do not dare to guess. After researching this school I come away with an impression of a historic university including their policies and prices. This is PRESCHOOL after all. Ever so sorry about the negative review. My oldest had grown really attached to his previous school, so I was hoping we could find a place here that felt just as safe, consistent, and welcoming. I'm grateful my wife chose Kids Inc. From Ms. Amanda in the mornings to Ms. Parker in the afternoons, we are consistently greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense that our boys are known and cared for. Ms. Su and Ms. Mahshid, along with their support staff, have made the transition smooth and reassuring. The biggest sign we chose the right place is how excited our boys are to see their teachers each day. They even ask me to share their updates when we arrive, which says a lot about the relationships being built there. After moving our son mid-year into the 2-year-old class, the transition was seamless, thanks to the kindness, warmth, and professionalism of Amanda, Kim, and Parker. We appreciated how they made room and warmly welcomed him into the program. The team has done an excellent job communicating with us about our son's development. They get to know each child as an individual and tailor their care to meet each child's specific needs. Ms. Brittney is an incredibly patient and kind teacher. She is helping our son learn how to share and communicate with his friends and we are seeing how much his speech is improving under her care. One of the reasons we chose this preschool is the student/teacher ratio - the classes are never chaotic or out of control. Ms. Brittney is able to give each child the attention they need. One of our challenges is getting our son to eat well throughout the day. We requested daily snack and lunch updates and the staff remain consistent with inputing this information into the childcare app with great detail. This school provides snacks and lunch with their tuition. Game changer for busy working parents like us! We also notice how well-loved our son is by the entire staff. At every drop off and pick up, he always gets warm greetings or goodbyes from at least two different staff members, and they always greet him by name. It's clear that the staff truly knows and cares about each child. The facility itself is clean, modern, and well-maintained, and we always pick up our son looking fresh and clean after a day of fun and learning. We have three school age children and our family has been at Golden Valley Orchard school since…read more2018. We chose the Waldorf school to our own surprise, as two STEM professionals who attended schools in SJUSD. It's true that Waldorf education approaches learning with a different cadence, not seriously pushing academics until closer to second grade. However the academics are offered first thing in first grade, children pick them up at their own developmental pace, and interventions are offered where needed. GVOS Waldorf curriculum offers fine arts, handwork, a very low-technology learning environment, a small environment (~1 class per grade), the unique opportunity to stay with their own teacher for multiple years (called looping) and a emphasis on social-emotional collaborative learning. Children are taught cursive handwriting and record all their learning throughout the year writing, illustrating, and annotating their own main lesson books. GVOS has a high degree of parent participation. Virtues are taught daily, and whole child education and discipline are encouraged. High school and college students who graduated Golden Valley and have returned for panel interviews have reported confusion regarding the social and emotional culture of public schools they attend after Golden Valley Orchard school -- in my opinion this is more of a reflection on GVOS's success than a particular failure of other schools. We have seen changes and challenges, but nothing unique to or necessarily caused by the school or the Waldorf curriculum. There is a variety of charter schools in Orangevale, as well as several public offerings and one "high achievement" public offering which is enrolled on a testing basis. Looking at test scores from the 2024-2025 CAASPP & ELPAC, the trend for underperforming classes is a mirror of grades that were most profoundly affected by COVID pandemic classroom interruptions. https://www.caaspp-elpac.org/ GVOS's scores fall right between the local public school (Ottoman) and the local fundamental school (Green Oaks.)
