I scheduled my daughter's annual wellness check with Dr. Purcell. She was very kind and friendly. Before the appointment, I confirmed multiple times with my insurance company that the annual wellness visit would be covered 100% with no copay. However, after the visit, I received a bill for a copay. When I contacted the billing department, they told me that if any concerns are brought up during the annual checkup and the doctor documents notes about them, the visit is then considered a regular office visit, which requires a copay. I carefully recalled what happened that day. I simply answered the questions asked by the medical staff and had the doctor perform the routine annual exam. We had some casual conversation during the visit, but I did not request any additional evaluation beyond the standard checkup. I was surprised to be told that this automatically resulted in a copay. We have visited many other pediatricians for annual checkups in the past and have never encountered this situation. The billing department repeatedly insisted that this is their policy and that their practice is different from other pediatric offices. They said the office manager would call me back to explain further, but I have not received any call or follow-up. It does not seem like they are interested in resolving this issue. I hope this clinic takes this matter seriously. Families should be aware that even if their insurance covers annual wellness visits at 100%, if the staff determines that "any concern" was brought up, they may reclassify the visit as a regular office visit and require a copay. read more

More than the doctors, I have to say that I really like the front staff, which makes a huge difference. The doctors can be as great as they can, but if the front staff, are not helpful, there really is no point. Mina and Francis are just absolute delights. They always make our day whenever we come in and are friendly, but also quick to the point to helping us. I just wanted to make sure to give them a shout out. I also really like Doctor Peterson, who is helpful and quick as well. read more

First, I want to be sure to clarify this is a review of the *facility* based on facility concerns - *not* related to the physician, who our family did greatly appreciate. STEP Pediatrics was our family's pediatrician office for over a decade but after they sold to ABCD Pediatrics, there were some concerns my family encountered - enough to go through the ordeal of actually changing pediatric offices. The two concerns had been brought up to the facility before we decided to leave: 1. There is a revised policy that STEP cannot complete a physical form (a standard form from the local school district) on the same day as a child's well visit. Previously before, we had to let the office know if we were bringing in the physical form so they could add a little time to the appointment. To note: STEP would add a fee to the well visit for completing the form (which we later learned is *not* a common practice among pediatrician offices in this area), and we accepted this fee as respectful of the time it takes to complete and sign the form. But STEP's new requirement of two separate appointments on two *separate* days has two issues for us: (A) we aim to minimize unnecessary exposure to illnesses, and scheduling separate day appointments increases the potential for additional exposure and (B) as two working parents, coordinating two separate dates presents a logistical challenge, and more missed time from school if during the school year. We were told the reason for separate day appointments is because when they complete a physical form, they are doing a more "in depth" physical, but as of 2024, the office did not have an ECG machine (per staff). Advanced diagnostics in that regard are referral only. So, without an ECG machine or other necessary in-office diagnostics to do "more in-depth evaluation", we are skeptical of that statement. 2. The other thing that we find troubling is this office has changed patient electronic medical record systems multiple times. And, when they do, we find we can still log into the old EMR systems years later and access all that prior information. This is concerning to us, because we know there is important patient information stored and not wiped from the old systems, thereby increasing the risk of compromised protected health information (PHI). The existing information and login should be removed from old platforms a year or so after switching. We contacted ABCD Pediatrics on their main contact form about this concern, and we never received a response. read more

Our experience with STEP so far has been great. Dr. Kozak is a top notch physician who was great with our child, acted professionally, and really seems to care. We have every confidence in his advice and opinion. The staff were all friendly and accommodating, both over the phone and in person. The offices are clean and tidy. They also have a small room sectioned off for newborns in an attempt to help keep the littlest ones from getting ill. Highly recommend. read more

We have going to Step Pediatrics for over ten years. My son is medically complicated and Dr. Purcell is the best. My son sees a half dozen specialists on a regular basis and Dr. Purcell is the best team leader a parent could ask for. When there is a question regarding his health she will call my son's specialists directly to figure out what is going on and to help point us in the right direction. Ms. Becky is absolutely the best as well. She calls us with test results on the weekend or in the evening. I love her down to earth approach to routine illnesses. Both she and Dr. Purcell speak to my children directly and take time to listen to them. With my son's complicated medical problems, Dr. Purcell takes time to explain them to him in ways he can understand. Their staff is thorough and patient. So here is the reality of that kind of wonderful care and service, sometimes there is a wait to see the doctor. My philosophy of doctors' offices is that if you want the ability to ask questions and for them to take time with you then you need to willing to wait so that they can give that service to someone else. I spend a lot of time in a lot of different doctor's offices, and I can promise you that Step Pediatrics is rare among the many that are out there. I am so grateful that they will see my children through college because I am absolutely terrified at the possibility of having to finding another doctor to be as great of a team leader as Dr. Purcell. read more

I was very disappointed with the treatment my daughter received yesterday. While trying to explain to the Dr Kozak my daughters symptoms, he dismissed my concern. While trying to advocate with respect to this man on my concern again I was treated as if I were an idiot. So the doctor diagnosed my child with allergies and possible cold. The last thing Kozak said was if things got worse, just call and we can take care of it. Well fast forward 24 hours and her fever went up over night and a few worsening symptoms. Called the office first thing in the morning and at 2pm they called me back wanting another co-pay visit to properly diagnose my child. I just expected better care and a sense of empathy but that was not the case. Very disappointed. read more

Phenomenal pediatrician! We just moved to the area and were driving back to our old town to see my son's dr. He recently decided to do some missionary work for the next 5 years, so we needed a new pedi. My son saw Dr. Alam for an initial consultation and she was fabulous. She took the time to go over his details and was very thorough. We didn't feel rushed, she asked several times if we had any questions, and my son reacted well to her. We definitely feel more than confident that STEP Pediatrics and Dr. Alam will be a wonderful choice for our son's medical treatment. read more

My children go to Step and it has been the worst experience since Dr. Kruppstadt left!! Dr. El-Ziam has questioned everything that has been done for my kids the last 13 years. I have been a parent for over 20 years and have never had such a poor experience as I have had in the last 2 weeks. I have been told several days by the nurse that she is the only nurse covering 3 doctors and can't correct something that was done wrong over a week ago. The worst thing Step ever did was run off Dr. Kruppstadt! She cared about her patients and took her time with them. read more

We've been taking our kids to Step Pediatrics for years, and have always been very happy with the care they receive. Step provides very personal care - the doctors and nurses actually get to know their patients, and this sort of concern translates directly into expert care and a great experience for the kids. If we could find an adult practice that is as well run and as expertly staffed, we'd be very happy. read more

We love Dr. Purcell and her staff at Step Pediatrics! Dr. Purcell came highly recommended to us by our OB doctor when we were pregnant with our first child. Both of our girls now see Dr. Purcell, and we would not go anywhere else! Becky the NP is always so wonderful to work with as well! They are very good about getting you in if it's urgent, and the quick follow up by Dr. Purcell and Becky when we had an abnormal lab value was so greatly appreciated! Dr. Purcell is amazing! We went to her upon recommendation and she hasn't disappointed us in giving the best care for our daughter. We hit a rough patch of "mystery" sickness and double ear infections and who knows what else...not a fun time for a first time mama and a new baby but she guided us through everything and was safe and effective with her options. The entire office staff knows my daughter by name, they make you feel welcome and always cheer when we are in for only a well visit! I must also commend nurse Becky who we have seen when our main doctor is not in, she is equally amazing and is the sweetest in explaining everything to us! read more

We love STEP pediatrics. We moved to the Woodlands about six months ago and established care here. I needed to get my son in for his four-year-old well check and they had appointments available the same week. We see Dr. Wilson, our son loves her and so do we. She always takes her time and makes us feel like she listens to all of our concerns. She interacts with our son and is amazing at explaining things to him (and us). Her nurse is incredible also! She is always kind and joyful and goes out of her way to solve any problems we might have. The front office staff is helpful, and great at helping with different problems. I forgot my insurance card on my first visit and they were really sweet about it. They just gave me an email address and asked me to email a photograph of it. Lastly their ability to schedule same day appointments is outstanding. I have needed care for my son twice since his well check. I called both times and was seen within an hour. Took my 3 year old daughter to see Dr. Kozak last week, and I am so thankful to have finally found a doc that our daughter feels comfortable with! He seemed very knowledgeable and the plus was that he actually made my daughter feel comfortable and actually made her laugh-a FIRST while being at a doctor's office. Let me start out by saying we followed dr Kozak from Kelsey Seybold. I absolutely adore him! He is smart, funny, doesn't overprescribe, and is down to earth. Plus, he is fantastic with kids! My son has seen him since the day he was born. So why the three stars you ask? Call me superficial, or whatever you will... But the interior of the office needs some serious attention! Every single couch is either stained or torn in the waiting room. The posters in the offices are crooked and not mounted correctly. The walls are dirty. The nurses write their notes on post it notes. With some minor changes this office would be excellent! Hoping that they make some small adjustments, because despite the physical appearance I really believe that this is a fantastic office. We will continue to take my son there, because of Dr Kozak. read more

The problem with STEP is the appalling waiting time/delay. They never run on time and sometimes are running well over an hour behind schedule. It can take several weeks to get a non-urgent appointment and then usually with the NP rather than with a doctor. The receptionists never apologize for the delays. The medical staff are always very pleasant. However, I have had to leave the office on two occasions without my child being seen due to 1-2 hours delays. I would recommend you schedule a good two hours out of your day to complete a routine visit to this office. read more

Both of my girls have seen Dr. Edralin since birth; when he left the practice we were told that Dr. Kozak was taking his patients. My oldest just saw Dr. Kozak for her 7 year check up, first visit with him, and we will not be returning. Her entire life she's been in the 100th percentile for both her height and weight; she's active in tumbling and tae kwon do and her weight is proportionate to her height. Understanding that any concerns for a child's health should be addressed, it should be advised with the parent in private, not in the presence of a 7 year old girl. In five minutes Dr. Kozak managed to shred my daughters self confidence and has set the stage for what I pray will not be a self-despising weight complex. read more

I wish I could put into words how much I love Dr. Purcell. I interviewed her while I was pregnant and ever since that first meeting she's done an amazing job as my son's doctor. She's funny, extremely experienced and knowledgeable and most importantly, I trust her and I know she's got my son's best interest at heart. She takes her time and she is sincere. I truly believe she cares about my son, not as a number but as a person. She has wonderful bedside manner and her nurse is great, too. I recommend Step Pediatrics to friends and strangers constantly. We love STEP! We met with Dr. Wilson a few weeks before my son was born and have had nothing but positive experiences with both her and the practice as a whole. She is so knowledgeable and stays up to date on best practices. It's a big deal trusting the care of your infant with someone you don't know well but she really looks out for him! We've been in for a few sick visits in addition to well visits and every time I'm amazed at the availability of scheduling and how much time the doctors spend with you making sure they're doing a thorough exam and answering all our questions. Amazing!! Dr. Purcell and everyone involved in this practice is nothing short of spectacular. Sure sometimes the wait is a bit long, but that happens when they have to squeeze sick kids in at the last minute. Just part of the business. My girls adore the doctor and all the nurses and are never scared to visit due to their sweet and nurturing bed side manner. Everyone at Step takes their time to get to know both the children and the parents, I feel like we have a more personal relationship which eases my mind in trusting all of their decisions whole heartedly. And let me just tell you, Dr. Purcell is like a walking medical textbook! She knows her stuff and would go to the ends of the earth for any of her patients. My family and I are fairly new to the area and this is the first pediatrician's office we tried for our daughter after we moved here. So far, we have been extremely happy with the office. Everyone has been very friendly--any time I call for an appointment or have a question the office staff has been helpful. My daughter has seen two of the doctors at this office and both have been so patient, kind and thorough. I have never felt rushed out of the office. Dr. Wilson is AMAZING! She is very caring and patient with my little one. I never feel rushed while she is examining my daughter. She rules out all possible illnesses via lab testing and is very thorough during office visits. She addresses all of my concerns, takes the time to answer my four year old's questions, and explains illnesses and remedies with her. When my little one is afraid and not feeling well, Dr. Wilson always knows what to do to make her feel comfortable and relaxed. It's rare to find a doctor so genuine and caring, but my family has found a very valuable gem in Dr. Wilson! Since switching to this office, I have not had to take my daughter to urgent care for last minute appointments because Step Pediatrics always gets her in for same day appointments when she is ill. read more

Our experience with STEP has not been good ever since Dr Wilson left. We are new to the area and found STEP as it was closest to us. Dr Wilson was our son's pediatrician and was great. Since she left, we were not assigned any other dr. Right before holidays my 15 month old son woke up in middle of night with cough and stridor sound when breathing. We called the on call dr who took more than 2 hours to even respond. We were asked to come in office the next day for follow up which is where our trouble started. Dr Kozak was on duty that day and got overly concerned with our son's condition. He made us rush to emergency (almost pushing us for Memorial Hermann instead of Texas Children's). We made the panic visit to ER where our little one received breathing treatments. The ER dr did not agree much to Dr Kozak's panic assessment of the situation. After ER and hospital stay for a day coming back for follow up to Dr Kozak- he refused to even look at our kiddo saying we need to go back to hospital. He was very hesitant to have us call their office as he will be out for holidays. All of this caused so much emotional distress to our family as we were left out and had no choice but to look elsewhere. To top off they missed a vaccine for our son even though we were regular with every visit and had no idea why his immunization were skipped. I will NEVER in my right mind recommend this provider to anyone. read more

Dr. Krupstadt, their newest doctor sees my four children. She is amazing! She takes her time with the kids and makes them feel welcomed and loved. She explains everything to me step by step. The office is very friendly. My kids love it there, and they especially love their doctor. She is a mom, doctor, and a wonderful lady. You can't go wrong if you choose her. read more

We have had Dr. Purcell since our son was born. He is now 4 years old! SHe also sees my 13 year old daughter. Dr. Purcell is WONDERFUL! While I love dr. Kozak, I can't continue to bring my son there. They have misdiagnosed him TWICE, which is how many times I've brought him in. Most recently, I brought him in and was told he had "spring junk". I was informed to give him Claritin and cough medicine. The next day I called back because his symptoms had gotten worse (elevated temp & not eating). The nurse told me he was fine and not to bring him back in unless he was worse the next day. As the day went on I had this gut that he wasn't ok - I brought him to urgent care only to find out that he has strep. I shouldn't have to bring my child to urgent care to discover he has step. When I let them know they next day, they gave me the run around that strep can be fast moving and hard to catch. I disagree - I called that day, he had all the symptoms - it wasn't hard, they missed it. This was the second time / the first time they missed an ear infection. I cannot bring my son back because I no longer trust the nurses or doctors. My sons health is important. You can find better quality care elsewhere. read more
