I just had the best, most relaxing experience at this Yorkville salon. Kristen touched up my grays and nailed the color. She was so fun to chat dogs, kids, and schools with. Tori did my wash and blow dry and completely blew all other salon services out of the park. The scalp massage while she was washing was absolutely amazing and, paired with the ambiance of the dark room, gave the whole experience a 10/10. When we got back to the chair, she was super knowledgeable and informative about the products she was using. She then worked her gentle magic while drying and, again, it was the most relaxed I've felt in a very long time. I'm pretty sure I feel asleep three different times while with her! Upon checking out, even the girl at the front desk was as sweet as could be. She shared pricing of a couple of products, but didn't make me feel pressured to purchase anything at all. I can't wait to go back for my next appointment in six weeks! FIVE STARS all around. Oh, and the icing on top of the already-sweet cake!? I work for the Yorkville School District and, last spring, I reached out to the owner, Heather, about a partnership with our employees. She happily agreed and, in an effort to give back to her Yorkville community, she offers a great discount to all Y115 employees. Moved to Yorkville and needed closer salon and I'm super picky with my blonde hair. I called and left 3 voicemails and NEVER got even one call back. Their loss. I go every 6 weeks for roots, full foils, toner, trim, blow dry, style, waxing and I love to buy good products like Oribe, Christopher Robin, IGK, Harua, Emera, Bumble and Bumble, Davines, Kevin Murphy, Aveda, Rene Furterer, Olaplex, Lanza etc so they lost out on a lot of money by choosing to simply ignore my 3 urgent voicemails. LOVE IT! 1. The place is easy to find/park, the decor on the inside is chic, modern, relaxing & clean. I love the tour of the whole place! (It makes me feel like a family) 2. I just moved to the Sycamore/Dekalb area this past summer and I was looking for a new salon. I found this salon through word of mouth. My first appointment I was looking to touch up my dark brown color, add a few highlights, and add some layers. My stylist was very friendly, but she didn't seem to know what she was doing. The color that she touched up my roots with was very red-even though my base color didn't contain any red. In addition, she started my highlights half way down my head because she said they would look more natural. When I went home to visit my family the following weekend they all asked me when I was going to get my hair done because they thought the color problems were due to fading! In addition to the poor coloring the salon did not schedule enough time for my appointment. So my stylist rushed through styling my hair and the owner kept telling her that her next customer had been waiting on her. I found it extremely difficult to relax knowing that they were rushing. After the poor coloring and rushing, my stylist tried to push a variety of products on me. I kept trying to politely tell her no, but she did not back down until I told her that I could not afford to spend $80 on products. The pricing for their services also seemed extremely high! I go to a salon near Chicago and get the same services for 1/2 of the price! I think this salon is great if you want something very basic and are willing to pay high prices. read more

This salon is amazing! I am VERY particular about my color and the tone of my blond. I always feel that they truly listen to what I am looking for both in my color and cut. I have a background in the cosmetology industry and this salon does it right! From the beginning, the way you are greeted, to your consultation to the ahhhhhmazing lather lounge experience. The best part in my opinion of treating yourself to a hair appointment is the shampoo and this experience will not disappoint. You are taken to a separate room with calming music, its dimly lit and fully relaxing. You'll definitely get your money's worth here... I have been trying and trying and spending money on places to find a new "go-to" location for my hair needs. I absolutely LOVE the color bar-you relax while your color does its work..genius idea! I hate sitting in those chairs at other locations..when shampoo came I got an amazing head massage-complimentary! The massage in a quiet semi dark room so you truly feel relaxed and just feel refreshed leaving this place. I first started getting cut and color from Heather the salon owner, but if Heather was absent, and I had to get cut from someone else, I would have complete confidence in whoever was available. I am very satisfied with the service. Everyone there was very friendly and made sure I felt at home. The Lather Lounge experience was great, and I felt really pampered. They are slightly trendy/edgy, so no lavender flowers and fluff to be expected......who wants that crap anyways, i want a stylist not a candle shop. They are extremely professional and represent the Paul Mitchell brand well. They offer complimentary drinks, a spa experience that fits into your budget and time, and great periodic deals. I always get the Tea Tree experience with my haircut for no additional cost. The staff at Stephen Alan is AWESOME! I've been gong to Tiah since she started there and always leave with exactly what I want. (I am very particular with my hair due to bad experiences in the past.) I always seem to struggle with finding a decent hairstylist and have ended up with major trust issues due to previous bad experiences at other places. I stumbled upon this salon and decided to give it a shot, and I'm very glad I did. I used to see Tiah but now see Margaret, and she is fantastic. I was going in for a drastic cut and was already really nervous (cutting off 7 inches and doing blonde balayage). Margaret made me feel really comfortable and really calmed my nerves. Today was my first time coming to this salon. Usually I don't trust anyone to do anything with my hair, not even curl or straighten it. But I love, love, love this place. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel like a VIP. I was offered a beverage as I waited for my stylist, which made me feel like I was in a friend's home. The lather lounge is the most relaxing thing I have ever experienced. I wish I remembered the name of my stylist, because I want to give her a shout out. My haircut is perfect! (She wears glasses and has dyed blonde, short hair, if anyone knows who I am talking about.) Everything about this place is the perfect blend of professional and friendly. I am rating their nail service (since I have never had my hair done there I can not comment on that). The salon staff and atmosphere are friendly and nice but DO NOT GET A GEL MANICURE HERE!! I bought a groupon for 2 gel manicures and they SUCKED! The first one chipped after only 6 days on multiple nails and I am not rough on my hands. The second one I got chipped on 2 nails and it was only 4 days later!!!! More are peeling up and chipping each day since... Every where else I have gotten a gel manicure it has lasted minimum 10 days before a chip occurred and the one at 10 days was only because I bashed my nail.... Usually lasts at least a full 2 weeks! The only reason I went back a second time was since I had bought the 50%off groupon for 2 manicures. I will never ever get my nails done there again. The color selection sucked.. I will go to the nail salons that specialize in nails from now on... They should just not even have the nail option at this salon. read more

As many others mentioned, I can also agree that the lather lounge is by far the most relaxing experience I've yet to experience. Its very hard not to almost fall asleep with being so relaxed. The haircut done by Samantha was done perfectly to my expectation and not rushed. I also was able to meet and talk directly to the owner Heather and understand her commitment to customer service and creating a very relaxing and enjoying experience for her customers. This is hands down the best salon to go to! The staff is amazing and always make sure you feel welcome there. When you walk in you'll be wowed by the set up-it has a very classy look to it with the most comfortable feel. There is no shortage of relaxation here, as you get many options with the later lounge. I got my hair colored there and I was almost late, due to the weather, and was told if I was more than 10 minutes late my appointment would automatically be cancelled and I would have to pay extra the next time I schedule. I was very surprised they were so non chalaht about the reason I was late. Being the roads were icy, and they would actually want me to rush there, risking my life and the lives of others over hair. I also didn't like how my stylist rushed through my appointment, like someone else had commented. Because she had another client waiting, she only did an all over color and didn't get to my highlights. She wanted me to schedule another appointment. I found that extremely inconvenient, as I had wanted my hair done for the weekend. Then it was extremely overpriced, over 100.00 for just a cut and all over color. And when I tried to change my mind about hair products I had picked out, another stylist who was in charge and checked me out, she was short and thin with blonde hair, refused to take no for an answer and rang up the products. I was so upset. I'm never going back there again. And nobody could see a change in my hair, including my boyfriend. :(( read more
