Wow, And I mean wow!!! GO HERE for your eye care from now on!!!…read moreAs a new person here from Chicago, I had to find all new medical care. My eye care was the last one I found. I made and appointment with Anna Lam, OD at first to do a medical eye check. Through the 2 appointments I had with her, she was efficient, professional and SO thorough. But I needed to get my contacts and quick, because I was starting a job the following week,so I requested that t hey try to fit me in somewhere...Not only did they fit me in, but they even opened the office early for me! Astounding service, smart, caring, staff and such a convenient location! This is my go to place for all of my eye care from now on!

My Mom was scheduled on March 15th for her regular checkup, but I wasn't able to take her that day,…read moreso I called to reschedule for today instead, luckily they had a spot opened for Dr Ryan Phan instead of Paul Huynh since these guys sharing the same office. The appointment was initially at 2 PM, we came about 1:30 to make sure we can find parking and fill out all the paperwork. As indicated on the sign, even if you showed up on time, they won't see you in that order depending on what the condition they will see whoever needed first. So the assistant brought my Mom in for about 10 mins after 2, but the doctor didn't see her until 3 PM. That was a long time which I felt that was forever since I had some place to go and matters to attend, but I'm glad it's over until the next visit 6 months later.

He performed a surgical procedure on my son to remove an abnormal growth on my son's eye that threatened to obstruct his vision. We were referred to Rady for this procedure by my son's pediatrician. We waited 3 months to get an initial appt. with Rady. He performed the surgery and successfully removed the growth, but he never even prescribed the medications he had specified himself in the post-surgical instructions to prevent regrowth, and within 8 weeks the growth had returned as if he'd never taken it off. In addition the rapid regrowth compromised my son's vision and his eye was "tethered" by the regrowth. Dr. O'H proposed doing the exact same surgery the same way and using a different medication post-surgery to remove the regrowth. At this point we sought four opinions from specialists at Shiley, Scripps, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, and USC. By *unanimous* opinion, these doctors disagreed with Dr. O'H's approach and it became clear that his strategy was most definitely *not* the standard of care for my son's condition. In addition, my son's condition is not common in kids and only a very few pediatric ophthtalmologists do have a specialty in this condition, there are none at Rady. . He should have referred us, a colleague of Dr. O'H in San Diego told us that he has as much experience as Dr. O'H in this condition and that he never would have considered taking my son as a patient, he would have referred us to a corneal specialist. We trusted him and are deeply disappointed that he didn't refer us to an appropriate specialist. We are now with a doctor at USC who has experience in my son's condition in both kids and adults, she has re-operated and the vision loss my son suffered after Dr. O'H's procedure has been regained. She offered the standard of care treatment post-operatively and my son's growth has not recurred so far (10 weeks, it came back in 8 weeks with after Dr. O'H). The first best chance we had of getting rid of this growth was the first time and with each subsequent surgery the chance of recurrence increases. We are deeply disappointed that we entrusted my son's care to Dr. O'H. I don't doubt his actual surgical skill, but his overconfident manner and the fact that he wasn't willing to admit to his lack of experience in the area of my son's condition and refer us to Shiley or another doctor that knew his/her stuff in this area has completely eroded our trust in Rady ophthalmology. In general we love Rady, my son has multiple medical conditions and sees many Rady specialists and most of the doctors there are first-rate. If you are considering Dr. O'Halloran, I would STRONGLY suggest getting a second opinion from Shiley or USC (Doheny Eye Center is their office in Orange County) before making your decision. In addition, the cost for the second surgery was something like $800 less than the charges for the same surgery and we have absolute confidence in our new doctor. Because of our experience, I would never again trust him to do any surgical procedure on any of my kids. Without trust there is nothing.
