The kids decided they wanted buffett on our way home Sunday afternoon. They loved the brunch buffett, having the option of breakfast and lunch options. I don't think anyone tried something they didn't like. Lots of choices. And the banana pudding and chocolate éclair cake(I think that's what it was) were amazing as well. And the soft serve ice cream machine was a huge hit with the kids as well. We will definitely keep this place in mind the next time through!! read more

Standard local buffet. But I've had way better buffets. Food was mediocre. Very bland. As I read after the fact...ham was rubber. Baked chicken greasy. Fried chicken was blah. Veggies were bland. Salad comes out of a bag. Staff wasn't rude but wasn't friendly. Only thing good was the fountain coke. And for $16 you can eat wayyyyy better locally. Booths were run down but clean. For what it is - an all you can eat buffet - I was impressed. As long as you don't walk into this place expecting anything healthy or gourmet, you'll be happy. Average buffet style meal. Food was just ok, nothing appeared to be homemade, just canned veggies. Not great, but it seems to be pretty popular among the locals as it was pretty busy. Variety. Home cooking. Friendly staff. Comparatively covid conscious (they did great during the height of the pandemic, but I think they aren't necessarily prepared for the rising covid conditions. Yet I love the food, and it is one of my first picks every time I make it to Bardstown. They deserve a shot! This is a definite no frills kinda place, but my mama would've loved it, and so do I. Sherry and I saw this restaurant listed as a hidden treasure in Bardstown. We had some errands to do so we figured we could eat out. And hey for $25.00 for both of us including drinks and dessert why not! The place was packed when we arrived. But we only waited about 10 minutes. There are enough tables for any size party. When we walked in the buffet didn't seem very long but when we got up close, the food was three deep. This is the real hometown buffet. The spread had a couple of soup choices, the fluffiest biscuits I truly have ever had, a salad bar with a bunch of toppings and lots and lots and lots of entrees and sides. The dessert options were plentiful as well. Pies and cakes, banana pudding, a cobbler and a yummy bread pudding plus ice cream. The food was all fresh and well prepared. Nice home cooking with something for everyone. It's a good solid family restaurant at a reasonable price. Of course if I ate here all the time, I'd be flying in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade as a balloon but I won't. Give it a shot. Lunchtime and breakfast is even less expensive, about $8-9 dollars. read more

This is a buffet and you can eat as much as you want, but I do not know why you would want to. The ham was cooked until it had the consistency of beef jerky while the meatloaf had the consistency of sloppy Joe's. The Salisbury steak looked identical to what you get from a $1.25 banquet frozen dinner. I made the mistake of trying a stuffed crab which had me convinced I had tasted death itself (despite the flavor I did not get sick). The pork tenderloin was burned and the fried chicken was dried out. The mashed potatoes and cooked apples were good, but not enough to cover the overwhelming sense of disappointment. I didn't have high hopes for this restaurant, but I thought it would be at least on par with a Golden Coral. Not the case. The aesthetic of the restaurant was simple country and fine. The service was fine for a buffet. Maybe their breakfast buffet is better, but I'm not going to risk another trip to find out. read more

I was staying in the area because I had to work the next day. As I had to be up super early, I didn't want to put up much effort in deciding what to eat. I decided to try this place after reading the Yelp reviews. The price wasn't bad 12 bucks, but it includes a drink. The staff was friendly, even though I walked in about an hour until closing. The buffet has typical down home southern food. They have plenty of options on the salad side. I had a pasta salad that was pretty good. They had lots of options for sides, it was hard to choose. They had fried catfish, baked salmon and stuffed crab. I opted instead for fried chicken and Pork Chop with gravy. The latter was my least favorite item of what I tried, but it wasn't bad. They change items regularly, so I'm looking forward to trying more. I won't go out of my way to come here, but if I'm in the area, I'll definitely stop in again. read more

After a long trip on the road we decided to walk next door to our hotel and eat at this place for dinner. It is a mediocre buffet at best. I gave two stars because the food was hot and there was a decent selection of desserts(mostly pre purchased- not made on site). The meats were dry to hard and lacked flavor-everything could use more seasoning. For the price I would expect more things prepared fresh. Lesson learned- easy is not always better. Not your usual bland, luke warm buffet food. This place had an awesome brunch buffet. The food was flavorful and piping hot. You had a good choice between breakfast and lunch food. Why is it that I've never been blown away by any southern style buffet? Maybe it's because it's hard for any place to perfect fried chicken, pork chops, ham, taters and all of the other southern staples, all at once. This location is close to downtown Bardstown. It sits a bit back from the road, so it could be easy to pass up unless you look for the sign near the main road. When we pulled up and noticed that the parking lot, we knew that it was a hot spot for the locals. You pay when you first walk in. On Saturday, they offered The dirt cheap prices of the buffet also includes your drink. The drinks are self serve, but there is still wait staff that come by to take the dirty plates and wasted food away, so make sure that you leave a tip. I loaded up on mostly salad items, so I left a little bit more satisfied than my southern food loving husband. I tried the fried chicken, which was too soggy and greasy for my liking... almost as if it had been remade and reheated. The seasoned potatoes were my favorite item of the hot items. Everything else was quite unmemorable. Several items were merely warm, not very hot and enjoyable. All in all, it wasn't terrible. Perfectly rated at three stars. There are a lot of other places to eat in Bardstown, this place may offer the most bang for your buck, it's just not the best food in Bardstown. read more

OMG, what is this, a prank? I now know how Gordon Ramsay feels in episodes of Kitchen Nightmares and why he is so agitated. Instant mashed potatoes were horrible. Crab cake was edible but not good. We came at a busy time and thought the food would've been at least freshly "prepared" but actually seemed old somehow. We won't be returning but if you have really low standards... give it a try. Truly is a kitchen nightmare. Glad I didn't get a tour of the kitchen. Afraid of what I'd see there. Some guy told my wife that the Sausage & Sauerkraut was good. Nope. He would do flips over the version I make then. Stewed tomatoes looked like a mess. If you go, stick to the fried foods. LOL At least 75% of them are edible. This was the 3rd chance I have given them and won't forget how bad it is now. read more

While I understand that businesses have all taken a hit during COVID, this one is the worst. Everything fried comes out of a bag, there is no batter and taking the time to fry it. The baked chicken was the only item I had, with ANY flavor on it, and it was as dry as a bone. The green beans were decent, but needed salt. The baked beans looked and tasted more like refried beans. The potato cubes were seasoned, but the seasoning made them worse. I di understand that they were getting ready to switch over from lunch to dinner, so I understand some of the food being at the last of what they had fixed. But when they switched items out, they didn't throw away the lunch items, they just put them in on top of the new items!!!!! Absolutely not acceptable. Will NEVER go there again, or recommend it to anyone. read more

Stopped after looking for a local place in Bardstown. Small and quaint, not much to look at. Very friendly staff, and very reasonable prices. It cost us $35 for a family of 5 and we were all stuffed. Buffet includes salad bar with a lot of fresh veggies. There was also breakfast and dinner options. My 10 year old was pleased to have both! My favorites were the mashed potatoes and the fried pork chops. Lots to choose from and tasted like old fashioned cooking. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the desserts. Pretty sure they weren't made in house. Kids did love the ice cream and toppings though. read more

We are just a few miles away in Louisville, so about once a month we make the trip over to visit this hidden gem. I am obsessed with the Stephen Foster Restaurant's catfish. I am a catfish fanatic, and theirs is at the top of my list. The mashed potatoes are very good as well. The place is always packed at supper time. I can tell that the locals are fans. No, the food is not high-class, but it's good country food. The desserts are fantastic. It was about $35 for two adults, one senior, and one child including drinks. Service is always great. The young ladies that do checkout and bus the tables are always friendly-- be sure to leave the bussers a tip! Not for someone expecting fancy or to see ol' Stephen Foster himself, but definitely for someone looking for good home cooking. read more

We were expecting more "Old Kentucky Home" and found the restaurant to be nothing like that. The parking lot was packed so we decided to give it a try. I found this place mediocre at best. I felt like a majority of the food was mass produced frozen products that were heated in house. I guess the price isn't bad for what you get but I could've went to Walmart and bought and cooked myself the same meal. We were in Bardstown for the day and decided to give the buffet another try. Not much has changed since our visit last year. There is still a variety of fresh food at a reasonable price but, it just is not outstanding. The salad bar items were fair except for the bacon bits which are artificial. I always judge a salad bar by weather or not they have real bacon bits. If they are not real then the salad bar is mediocre. The selection of meats were pork, beef, chicken and fish. The fish was the best as it was lightly battered and fried crisp with a nice flavor. The desert bar had a nice selection with fresh hot peach cobbler and banana pudding. Recently was on a motorcycle ride with my friends and we stopped at the Stephen Foster restaurant in Bardstown for lunch. I have been at this restaurant for dinner several times and it was always good food. I wasn't a bit surprised that during lunch time it was just as good as it is for dinner. It's all buffet style and the food is fresh and hot on the buffet bar at all times. It's a rather small place but have never have had a long wait to find a table. Very reasonable prices for the high quality of food. Highly recommend for everyone. read more
