For what it is - an all you can eat buffet - I was impressed. As long as you don't walk into this place expecting anything healthy or gourmet, you'll be happy. As far as buffets go though, the food was top notch buffet quality! I was a little turned off that we had to pay just to put our names on the list. If you get tired of waiting, there's no turning back....

Excellent buffet fried chicken and fish with traditional vegetables done southern style. Good choices on the salad bar and dessert bars too. Fine pecan pie and cherry cobbler. Reasonable price and senior discount

Variety. Home cooking. Friendly staff. Comparatively covid conscious (they did great during the height of the pandemic, but I think they aren't necessarily prepared for the rising covid conditions. Yet I love the food, and it is one of my first picks every time I make it to Bardstown. They deserve a shot! This is a definite no frills kinda place, but my mama would've loved it, and so do I. Today I had their fried fish (always good), and though it is verboten, I had the teeniest bite of their awesome Chicken and Dumplings. Yum! Don't forget dessert!

We sat at the bar because it was still pretty packed. The place was fun - the service was a bit silly in a good way. Great cocktails. Great ambiance and decor. My bourbon-grilled pork chops were fantastic. Good cornbread. Green beans were fantastic. The fried apples were just okay - a bit on the dry side. My friend's chicken and waffles looked amazing. Another friend's ribeye looked a bit overdone to me, but he seemed to like it. I wish the souvenir store was still open when we were there (it closed at 6pm) because I would have liked to bring home a trinket or shirt. Maybe upon next visit - because I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Bardstown. Make it a priority to stop in!

The shepherds pie was just okay. Green fried tomatoes were fine, but missing the mark on the sauce. We ordered a special, souvlaki chicken. It was two skewers of really small, burnt and overcooked chicken with peppers on a bed of what tasted like microwaveable rice. Totally missing the seasoned and bright-herbaceous mix of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and oregano. Just go to the bar. Find some other place for dinner.

We had high hopes based on Eagle Louisville's stellar Yelp score. But we walked away disappointed…read morebecause of a major service lapse, curious food seasonings and discrepancies between menu descriptions and actual dishes. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Friday. We had a choice between sitting inside or being seated at a picnic table on the covered deck. We were assigned a high-top table in the dining area past the bar, where a few guys were watching a soccer match. The brine-soaked fried chicken is Eagle's specialty, so we ordered it. I thought the chicken was good,. So per the menu for the three-piece fried chicken meal, you can only order either all white meat or all dark meat. Interestingly, the two people at our table that ordered white meat still got a drumstick with their meat. The last I checked, drumsticks were considered dark meat. For an appetizer, we ordered the hush puppies. They had a nice crunchy texture but were very spicy hot. We also ordered the spoonbread. This was my favorite dish of the day. It was served warm, had a great texture and a light maple flavor. With our meals, we could get two sides. We requested the collard greens, green beans, fries, grits and mac & cheese. Only the mac & cheese was good. The collard greens were way salty and the green beans had odd and unexpected seasonings. Our dining companion was put out, and understandably so, that the menu said the grits came with white cheddar cheese. But instead, though the grits maybe had cheese, they were also loaded with loads of diced jalapeno. They were so over the top spicy, none of us could eat the grits. The fries were strongly seasoned with oregano. WTF? Our entrees came with biscuits. The biscuits were tasty, but unfortunately, because they contained too much shortening, fell apart when buttering them. And that leads up to the service lapse. After we received our check, our server completely disappeared. We waited a half hour for her to re-appear, gave up and asked another server to cash us out. He disappeared and we waited some more. Finally the red-headed server re-appeared and breezily explained she had been out on the deck the whole time. No apology or anything.

The space is definitely on the smaller side, which adds to the intimate feel, but I can only imagine it gets pretty tight during peak hours--especially since they don't take reservations. The menu is extensive so it took a minute for us to order. Everyone had water to drink. Our server brought us some fresh yeast rolls that were hot and tasty. We had the fried green tomatoes appetizer for the table. They were excellent served with sour cream and horseradish and ranch that we had to ask for additionally. Everyone ordered something different. Orders included: 1. Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, and cole slaw. I only tried their cole slaw which leans more to a vinegar base and I prefer a sweeter slaw. There were 4 pieces of chicken. 2. Meatloaf with mashed potato and gravy and cornbread. Cornbread was a bit dry, meatloaf was ok. 3. Mushroom and bacon smothered chicken, onion rings and cornbread. Person said the chicken was a bit dry, the mushrooms and bacon saved the dish. Onion rings were good, crispy and hot. 4. Chicken and dumplings with cornbread. Folks that tasted them said they make better at home, nothing special. 5. Rueben sandwich with corn pudding. Sandwich was just ok. Bread was too thick for my taste, beef was tender. Corn pudding was excellent, hot, creamy. Service was good, resturant quaint, street parking. The train rolling by, blowing the whistle while we ate was a nice touch, although it rattled the building. After we ate, got to go containers and paid we shopped at the adjacent and across the street shops to the resturant. That was fun. After shopping we headed back to the restaurant for coffee and dessert. Again each of us had a different dessert item which included: coconut cream pie, butterscotch pie, derby pie, chocolate sundae cake and the house specially, butter cream pie. All were pretty good. We all liked the house speciality pie, it was super sweet, creamy with a good crust. Coconut pie was a favorite as was the chocolate sundae cake. The derby pie was way too chocolatey for most of us. It is a cute little little resturant with a homey feel that will take you back in time. One of those places where you should try but then say, did that, don't necessarily need to revisit.
