I've been going to Dr Parr and his hygienist, Maria, for many years. Dr Parr always provides superb dental work. Maria does excellent cleaning with no discomfort at all. When Maria finishes, my mouth feels so refreshed and clean! They both make going to the dentist a relaxing experience instead of a fearful one. The office is impeccable and the staff is second to none! Let me walk you through a typical appointment: Upon stepping foot in the door, I'm instantly greeted by the lovely receptionist Ileana. She always greets me with the warmest welcome and lights up the room with her infectious smile. I've never met someone who radiates positivity as she does; she has such a loving energy and genuine interest in how you're doing; you can tell she genuinely cares about all of her patients who walk through that door, and it doesn't hurt that she always offers me a hot authentic Cuban cafecito while I'm waiting to be seen either! DELICIOUS! When its my turn, I make my way up the beautiful staircase just outside, surrounded by luscious plants and colorful artwork. The atmosphere of this office is very artistic and comforting; it is certainly in the spirit of Coconut Grove; I especially love the incredible rock music soundtrack!!! Dr. Stephen Parr has been our dentist (husband and mine) for over 20 years. He is probably the best dentist in South Florida (office in Coconut Grove). I have had major/minor dental work and all procedures have been outstanding - no corrections necessary and aesthetically pleasing. Maria Michelena, his colleague is excellent. Good news first. My actual visit with Dr. Parr was great. He and his dental assistant were friendly and courteous, and certainly make an effort to put you at ease. He's extremely thorough and knowledgable, and I left feeling more informed than ever about my oral health. I also really liked their method of teeth cleaning/polishing: they use a baking soda solution and a high pressure, micro, water shooter gun (technical term lol) to remove stains, rather than polishing teeth with the usual whirring, grinding tool and flavored gunk. It really works! My teeth looked beautifully white, felt squeaky clean, and I appreciated the more gentle and natural approach. Now the bad news. Parking is tricky. And I found the reception/billing department unprofessional and frustrating to work with. (They repeatedly asked questions I'd already answered, assured me they didn't need all the insurance information I offered, then had to call back because (oops) they actually did need it, and on another occasion they had to call because they forgot to inform me of some charges... None of this really inspires confidence, know what I mean?) But my real sticking point is that this office prefers not to deal with my insurance company. To clarify, they do take my insurance (United), they just don't want to mess with it. (Huh?). So I was made to pay out-of-pocket, and then wait 2-3 weeks for my insurance company to reimburse me. Am I the only one who thinks this is really odd? The whole reason I have insurance, is so I DON'T have to pay out-of-pocket for my dental/medical expenses. Right? Well, not here. And to add to the fun, I was informed of this billing practice as a surprise at the end of the visit, because reception failed to mention it when I made the appointment. So my anticipated $0 co-pay turned into a nearly $300 bill. Awesome. But I swallowed it, because I was assured they checked with my insurance company, and it would definitely cover X amount of the bill. Well when I got my reimbursement check three weeks later, it wasn't for that amount at all. -_- Sadly, I won't be returning because the great dental experience was overshadowed by inconvenience and unprofessionalism. My first visit here was great. Dr. Parrs office staff and hygenists are wonderful and nice. I had originally scheduled an appointment to get a chipped tooth fixed with bonding. This was done and at first i thought it waa great as im getting married in 11 days. Well upon closer inspection my teeth that were straight upon arrival were no longer straight as the tooth i had worked on wasnt built back up enough as it had preciously been and therefore my two front teeth are not even which makes my smile look crooked. No worries ill just go back and have it fixed i thought. Well when i arrive and explain what i felt the girl at the front desk said she could see what i was talking about. Awesome i felt like this was a good start. Well when i tell the dentist dr parr my concern he basically makes me.feel as if how i feel isnt valid and that it isnt his fault. Well how do i go from having straight teeth in photos to one turned in tooth in photos when all that changed was him working on it. Needless to say after being told it wasnt his fault and everytjing was fine for the third time after trying to explain myself i got up and walked out. Save your smiles. Go elsewhere. read more

I just had my very first appointment with Dr. Parr and it was excellent! He did an extremely thorough oral examination and told me things that no other dentist took the time to do. I now have a better understanding of where I stand with my overall dental hygiene and how to better take care of the problem areas. I also had gone in for a second opinion thinking I had 4 cavities to be filled (according to my previous dentist). Good thing I went to Dr. Parr! With a little more TLC on my part I can take care of these areas. They weren't as bad as my previous dentist had made them seem. His solution had been a quick resolution. Also, the front desk staff is extremely helpful and friendly. My insurance was being tricky and they were able to help figure out my coverage. Thank you Dr. Parr and staff for being so friendly and helpful! I recommend this practice to anyone that is a bit anxious when it comes to the dentist as well as financially conscious! read more
