Please make sure you get an estimate/ quote in writing if you hire this company. I had an incomplete job of lights fixtures. No one communicated with me about whether the light fixture should or shouldn't be installed. I had requested 4 light fixtures to be installed but only 3 were installed. I was charged the same price even though all the work I requested wasn't completed. I reached out to them to see if they could adjust my charges but they refused. Lisa also claimed they never provided me a quote. Not true I was told $435 plus materials. Make sure to get everything in writing before the job is started. Also, they don't have a safe way to pay. Be ready to give your card information over the phone like I did. They don't offer PayPal or an online website for payment. Palmer is the type of small trade business that exemplifies what's wrong with getting services for your home. Most big companies won't handle smaller homeowner jobs, they choose new multi-million dollar residential projects. So, if you can't DIY, you try and hire a smaller, local company like Palmer. These small guys are even bigger cherry pickers: too steep a hill?, house too old?, job too much trouble?, don't like your face?, etc., etc,...you're outta luck. Stephen Palmer Electric is top notch. We have used them for almost 10 years. I have used them for many small projects and one room remodel that I did myself. I have been completely satisfied with all their work. Most recently, we have used SP for several small projects that we have let accumulate over several months. I have spoken to Stephen Palmer personally -- he usually answers his own phone -- and he is always very polite and helpful. Specifically, we have used a technician named Steve several times and he is extremely conscientious, thorough and professional. He takes his time and does the job(s) right. He will even find things that you didn't even know you needed and offer helpful recommendations. They are not cheap -- I imagine they charge at least the prevailing rates, but the quality of their work is well worth it. Why skimp when you are talking about the safety of your home? Installed 23 CAT5e/CAT6a runs throughout a finished townhome with minimal holes. Went great. Would hire again. Every single electrician that priced out this job put it around $5000-6000, but my budget was $2k. These guys offered a competitive hourly rate for someone who had many years of experiencing fishing low voltage (and high voltage) lines through finished areas (John). I was able to reduce the labor requirement by being the assistant/helper throughout the day, and also doing the cable routing / behind-wall-investigation / planning / mapping / etc. work on my own before John arrived. Also, terminated all the cables on my own after he left. This brought the end price down to about $2k. This was not a quoted price, but the final amount I paid for the number of hours that John worked on this project. John, the electrician I worked with over two days, had lots of experience routing low voltage (and high voltage) lines through finished spaces in creative ways. In the end, we were able to do all 23 drops with a very, very, small number of holes. Very happy with the results. Would definitely be happy to work with this company again in the future. read more

He was honest about some of the difficulties of the work (installing a light switch in a paneled wall) but the work came out fantastic! I'm amazed to see any poor reviews, but see that all the 1-star reviews related to responsiveness - not the quality of work. I've used Stephen Palmer Electric since 2011. They've installed attic fans, recessed lighting, replaced old wiring where the insulation was rotting, installed a dining room chandelier, ceiling fans, other light fixtures, replaced/installed new outlets, upgraded my power system to accommodate new HVAC - pretty much anything you might ever need an electrician to do - including the fixing of handyman work from the prior owner - very dangerous. Steven Palmer Electric has basically re-wired my entire house, and were the electricians on the job when I got my basement finished - a requirement of mine with the contractor - who also complimented my choice. John Wallace was the primary person sent to my home each time - he was outstanding. He seemed to really enjoy his work and to really appreciate the nuances of an older home. I ask for him every time I call. Stephen Palmer sent other electricians on a few occasions for their relative expertise on a particular request - each time that happened, I was fully satisfied with their work, professionalism, demeanor, etc. It sounds like they're perhaps not monitoring their electronic communication, but the service is exceptional. They've never been late, never a no-show, never any problem whatsoever. I've recommended them to several others and was thanked each time. In the wake of the recent storms, I had to search on-line for a good electrician to diagnose and fix an electric problem in our kitchen. This group was very responsive including the receptionist Lisa as well as Stephen, himself. The return of power had created havoc on a particular circuit that effected numerous kitchen appliances. This team worked effectively & efficiently, courteously and reasonably -- fixing the problems within the day that they worked at our home. We will use them again as our electricians, with confidence. Don't use this company. In particular beware of the combination of Sean and Renny. They sent a tech to our house give us an estimate of installing a 240v receptacle in either the garage or laundry room. After an hour and 15 minutes and they still refused to give my wife an exact estimate of the cost of the job. Furthermore, after two follow up phone calls they failed to send us a email with the estimate and they repeatedly tried to make us feel like we had done something wrong, despite us having paid them $225 for their visit. Two things in particular caught my attention: (1) they repeatedly asked my wife what her budget for the job was (none of their business) and (2) installing the receptacle in the laundry room involved extending an existing 240v line 15 ft and 0 construction b/c the area is fully exposed. All of which should be less than half an hour of work for an honest and experienced electrician. read more
