I guess I'll just have to go back... The Davis location is much smaller with less inventory (and less busy) than the Auburn location. Be sure to stop by for the fresh fruits, too!

Parking here is a breeze as they have their own open lot with plenty of spaces. Walking in,it's tough not to just be instantly mesmerized by the pure beauty of the local fresh fruit available. Beautiful peaches, nectarines, cherries and berries-it all look so gorgeous. Inside was a little cramped and I went before they were named the #1 pie shop in America,I'd imagine those tight quarters are having a time handling the crowds it's getting now. My top 3 things I love about Ikedas are as follows. 1.I've always loved the availability of their yummy tamales and really tasty chicken pot pies. Both are generally available fresh or frozen if you want to enjoy these goodies at home. 2.I've always loved the massive availability of hot sauces and snacks that both locations of Ikedas have always had on hand.I always made it a point when I was coming down the hill to stop at Ikedas in Auburn for a tasty tamale-now that I realize the Davis location is so much closer,I can see being able to enjoy those tamales and pot pies so much more often. 3.Pies-enjoying a pie from Ikedas always felt like something that locals knew and they shared with us out-of-towners whenever we happened to visit one of their 2 locations. With the recent award they received naming them best pie shop in America,I imagine those days are over and the secret is out.Now everyone will know what we knew way back when and hopefully this doesn't change them,I hope they can keep the high level of quality with what I'm sure will be a huge leap in demand-I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can. A bonus thing I love about Ikedas is their fruit freezes-they are so good,my niece hipped me to these and man are they worth the price of admission alone-they are so yummy-do yourself a favor and make sure to try one of these on your next trip to Ikedas. In closing, I'm so happy that Ikedas is finally getting the flowers they deserve with their recent award and I am proud to say I voted for them myself. If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting one of their two locations,do yourself a favor and get out there and grab some yummy fruit and a piece of pie-it's a good day spent for sure.

I recently enjoyed my first (and definitely not my last) dining experience at the HIVE tasting room and kitchen in Woodland, CA. I enjoyed it; the food was delicious and customer service on point. I went there with the intent of mead wine tasting but ended up not since I had driving duties. [Fun fact: mead wine has less alcohol content than grape wine.] Instead I ordered lunch and washed it down with their honey ice tea. The iced tea had a prominent honey taste. Hubs luved his, but my tastebuds were confused. Odd though because I luv honey and iced tea. We also ordered a Ruben sandwich $22 and an order of waffles. The sandwich was classic with the familiar flavors. Nice quality cut of meat, thinly shaved. The waffles $17 were topped with blueberries, slivered almonds, and orange blossom whipped ricotta cream which I asked for on the side. The ricotta cream was divine. The waffles tasted pretty darn good. However the pricing for both entrees seemed high for the serving size. But this is a type of place where folks can eat and linger to enjoy the grounds, atmosphere, and each other's company without anyone rushing you out. We enjoyed our meal out in the back outdoor patio. The landscaping is all organic with lots of pollinating and drought resistant plants and trees. The building is a zero energy building with an onsite brewing facility. The interior has a brand newish look and feel. There is a honey tasting and mead wine tasting counter, gift shop, and dining area. All of this is in an open floor plan. The indoor seating capacity is limited. The place can be rented out for events (such as a garden wedding), private facility tours. Plus they host community events. Take a peek at their website. Some events are free. Events range from tours, book readings, yoga classes, flower bouquet class, gardening... etc.

The menu had a lot to choose from so we got some small bites to share. I also tried the mead spritzer which was refreshing! My favorite thing I had was the whipped goat cheese. After brunch we did a honey tasting! The staff was so friendly! I will definitely be coming back to try more items on the menu. This is tucked in an industrial area but worth discovering!

He's from Louisiana and said he makes his southern bbq authentic. And authentic is what we got! We tried almost everything on the menu. The brisket was my favorite. It was smoked for 24 hours and served to us with a delicious bbq sauce. We loved the amazing smoked taste to it! The ribs were really good and the meat just fell off the bone. Chicken legs were bbq'd and delicious but I was too distracted by how amazing the ribs and brisket were. All the sides were bomb too. From the Mac and cheese and pasta salad to the hot links and baked beans, each was absolutely delicious and a wonderful pairing to the other foods. The truck sits daily 12-9 pm at 5980 24th St Sacramento, CA 95822

Next was potatoe salad and the other 2 sides were good but not my preference. The smak cheese was totally different and very smokey. I think it was just too heavy for me but i can see people loving it. As for the meats, i loved the tri tip and brisket the most. The ribs would be a distant third for me. My favorite item was the bean pie. Miss eating it after jummah prayer on the east coast. It is a staple at many predominatly black mosques and this one is pretty on point! Check em out!
