I love to cook and i like to use different oils in my cooking. This is very similar to the Olive Groove in Grass Valley that also carries great olive oils and balsamic vinegars. This place offers free tastings of oils and balsamic vinegar ( you help yourself with disposable containers) and small pieces of bread for dipping. The young lady working was very helpful and gave me suggestions of different oils to utilize. They also carry some salts and jams by the register. They also have coffee available. I really liked this place when we visited in downtown old Sacramento. There are so many options to choose from where you want something sweet and spicy savory in between original. We ended up purchasing the butter flavor olive oil as something that I chose to start putting into my morning cup of coffee. Definitely has that hint of butter flavoring that's for sure. Great pricing here as well too. Stopped by during our visit to old town. Never knew there could be so many variations of olive oil and vinegar! It was a slow day, the worker there was very helpful in navigating the selection and helping narrow down the profile. You're able to walk around and taste/sample everything along with bread to figure out what you like. We ended up with the Tuscan Herb olive oil and a traditional balsamic vinegar mix. PS. I called the store and ordered $80 worth of balsamic vinegar and oil that I was going to pick up the following day. I made a quick stop into a parking space in front of the store, because I wanted my husband to go in and see the store that I have enjoyed for several years. I wanted to pick up my product and have him be able to look around for a couple of minutes. I did not have any quarters. So once the lady got done with the customer she had I said can I have 4 quarters for a dollar? She told me very curtly that she could not give out change without an order. I pointed to the bag behind the counter and said I have an order. It's right there. I want my husband to look around. She said I still can't give you change. I told her I bought $80 worth of product and she glared at me and said put your credit card in the meter. In my opinion, this is no way to run a business. I am sure that many people a day come by and ask for quarters. But as a former business owner myself, I would rather get $200 a day in quarters and give them to potential customers and make happy than to have an actual customer that's been with you for over eight years be rudely sent away and never shop in your store again, I WILL NEVER SHOP IN THIS STORE AGAIN!! read more

Im giving them a 3 stars because their selection of oils and vinegars were all great and tasted great, BUT the customer service was too subpar for me to want to go back again. Im comparing this place to my usual spot in SF, I couldn't make it out to SF in time before my event so I settled with trying this place out. Couple points on why the service was subpar: -No one really greeted me and my partner when we came in and it was about 2 samples of oil in when we finally got asked if we wanted bread samples to try with the oils. -maybe its because its self serve tasting, and you have to approach the employees first, but no one approached us to ask if we had any questions or about any recommendations, pairings, etc -when I went up to purchase they asked if I wanted it wrapped, so I said sure thinking it was complimentary. Wrong, very wrong. They charged me $1.25 for every single one they wrapped and didn't tell me until after they had wrapped everything and charged my card already. Didn't say anything, no signs written anywhere. -for each one they wrapped they stuffed a business card and the manager/owner was telling the newbie "we ALWAYS put one in every single one so they know where its from". Its tacky. The bottles already have the business name and address, these are gifts for a large event and I dont want the business cards in them. I ended up and opening every one to take out the cards when I got home and re wrapped them again with nicer satin ribbon instead of the glittery plastic ones they tie on them. Personally, this place was a one time thing for me. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar here is by far my most favorite to dip bread with. Nothing else compares. My favorite olive oil is the Tuscan Herb. It has a hint of herb which adds a nice flavor. The spicy ones are good too and it really is actually spicy. My absolute favorite balsamic is the Neopolitan Herb. I tried other blends and always just go back to this one. It's sweet and pairs really well with the Tuscan Herb olive oil. There is a stamp card which they give one stamp per visit. I wish it was by bottle because I stock up quite a bit on the bottles when I stop by. Every month there is a mix of the month which is a discount on some of their olive oil and balsamic vinegar blends. Good way to try out different varieties. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The owner is a super sweet lady and comes over to hand you a little cup of bread for samples immediately. I love that. I took a little of this and that but my FAVORITE thing was the tangerine balsamic. So good. I also got a porcini mushroom and sage olive oil - I think we got a discount for doing a 2 for pairing. They were attempting to take a further $70 from me without letting me know in advance. They didn't return my call. I contacted them the next day and they claimed they undercharged me for the original purchase. I have no way of knowing if they did or did not undercharge me. First off, the staff are always helpful and greet you upon entering then offer free tastings of all the olive oils and balsamics. There are soooo many and it's hard not to try them all! Each oil or balsamic has a description of the item along with suggestions for pairing or cooking which is very helpful. They also have some other gourmet food items that I love checking out as well. Came in here because sister needed something. Little did I know I'll buy some for myself! The selection are vast and they provide breads to taste with. I was helped by an older lady and she gave some suggestions based on what I'm looking for but not really sure what to get. She provided some cut bread and I got to working on tastings ;-p I ended up with cascadian wild raspberry vinegar, herbes provence infused oil, and black cherry balsamic vinegar. The cascadian wild raspberry vinegar is great for salad!!! SO GOOD!!! I put in spring mix salad, with nuts, sliced red apple, and parmessan crisps! BOMB!!! I did not know this place even existed. I was walking in old sac with my niece. We were going to leave until I saw this place. I went in and saw that they sell flavored olive oils and balsamic vinegars...OMG I tasted many flavors. Some I personally did not like...but others blew my tongue away... I reduce balsamic and make a glaze to put over beets and other things...now these flavors are awesome. I loved the raspberry...black cherry...grapefruit...maple...but my favorite was the blackberry ginger. I ended up buying a 750 ml bottle. The vinegar...they have red and white..I believe the white is 12 year...and the red 18 year...and the flavor...it is quality stuff... The staff was so friendly and helpful. They will give you a punch card after you buy so many bottles valued at 20 dollars or higher they will give you a 750 ml bottle free...a value of around 38.00 including tax. The man at the register suggested trying the blackberry over ice cream.. Omg...on the way home stopped to get vanilla bean ice cream...and it taste even better...I could not believe it. I made my niece a funnel cake with ice cream and drizzled this over it...so good. For the olive oil..they have many flavors...butter flavor is really good. They have little pieces of bread to dip and try the oil. They have flavors like garlic...harissa...blood orange...Persian lime....cilantro...ect. Look at my pics for different flavors. When I first walked in I was greeted and asked if I have been here before..NO! but I'm glad I did. I was explained how the tastings work and how to pair the vinegars and oils together and they also give you the list of the best pairings. The many flavor went from savory to sweet. So the occasion arose that Joe K and I were going to be near Old Sacramento for a family gathering in honor of Sasha C's birthday. My first experience in a specialty olive oil and vinegar shop like this was Saratoga Olive Oil Company (Saratoga Springs, NY). That place set a very, VERY high bar for me, and I tend to mention it when prefacing my reviews of these types of stores. The 60 varieties as Chefs' Olive Mix probably match up closely to what Saratoga Olive Oil Company has to offer, but Saratoga offers bread for dipping whereas here you just have to drink the oil and vinegar from a 1 ounce paper cup. I liked the Yelp check-in deal of getting a free 60 ml bottle with a purchase of $10, so I bought two other 60 ml bottles that came out to just under $10. They cashier kind of made a big deal about me being short 10 cents, but the mad chill owner in the back said to just let it slide. Overall, they offer a great product here and they also do gift pack samplers if you can't decide. read more

Really cool store to visit in Old Sac. You can sample their huge variety of olive oils and balsamic vinagres and choose your favorite flavor combination. It's a pretty fun experience and their product is really good quality - no wonder they're pricey. My favorite item here is their mission fig balsamic vinagre. It's really great for salads and has a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Their truffle salt is also amazing and makes a great gift as well! One time the truffle salt turned pink and had a strange odor and I brought it back after months from purchase (I had used maybe 1/10th of the bottle) and they exchanged it for a new one with no hassle. They're all available to sample with little disposable cups and ample little trash receptacles underneath. You're tasting it straight as a sample. I personally like how you can walk around and can taste the olive oils of your choice. My fiance would have preferred to have someone kind of talk about each oil that we were interested in. We bought three different olive oils and some really delicious chocolate truffles. I just received my order today! I've been a customer for more than seven years and decided to try something different along with my regular flavors of olive oil & balsamic. Spicy Calabrian Pesto is so delicious, I wish I had bought a larger bottle! It will be perfect for caprese salad, pasta and pizza.
