I hired this attorney because I expected the level of skill, preparation, and advocacy that comes with hiring a licensed professional and paying thousands of dollars for legal representation. I did not expect a guaranteed outcome, but I absolutely expected someone who would know the law, prepare me for the process, communicate with me, and advocate for me in court. I did not receive that from Lindsey Houghton. From the beginning, I had to chase my own attorney for answers. Very little of the legal process was explained to me, and I was constantly calling and emailing with basic questions because I wasn't being kept informed. Responses were often delayed, leaving me to figure out far too much on my own. What was most frustrating was that I was initially told my role as the children's primary caregiver and my documented safety concerns would be central to our argument. Then, immediately before the first hearing, the strategy completely changed without any meaningful explanation. I walked into court completely unprepared for what was about to happen. The hearing itself lasted about ten minutes. Opposing counsel presented their position while my attorney offered virtually no advocacy for mine. When it was finally her turn to speak, she mumbled through her comments, was interrupted by the commissioner, and then simply stopped. She never redirected, never asked to finish, never made sure my position was fully presented, and never fought to have my concerns heard. Afterward, her explanation was essentially that the commissioner cut her off and there was nothing she could do. That answer was unacceptable to me. I didn't hire an attorney to give up the moment she was interrupted. That hearing set the tone for the rest of my case. My concerns were about the children's safety, yet I left feeling that I had been portrayed as a controlling parent instead. I expected my attorney to clearly distinguish between a parent raising legitimate safety concerns and a parent trying to control the other parent. She didn't. After the hearing, instead of discussing how to address what had happened or how to better present my case moving forward, I was told this was how things were going to be, that I needed to cooperate, and that if I wasn't happy, I could find another attorney. Looking back, I honestly feel like I paid thousands of dollars to have someone sit next to me while my case was pushed through the system. I could have represented myself, spoken for myself, and walked away with a better result without paying for representation that, in my experience, provided little meaningful value. I hired an attorney because I expected expertise and advocacy. I did not receive either, and I cannot recommend this attorney to anyone facing a custody case. read more

I am very disappointed with the services I paid for but barely received. Pricing is significantly higher than local providers. I hired a lawyer because I have anxiety and cannot handle the stress of family court with an abuser. When it actually finally came to time for court, I was left without representation as so much time had passed I was now in stage two pricing despite the fact I had yet to go to court at all. Something smelled "off" from the start. I decided not to trust them. I sent an initial inquiry via their webform. I was contacted a day later asking what county my case was in, even though they allege to serve Baraboo, and even though I put "Baraboo, WI" in the inquiry. So after a day of waiting, their first question was, "Which county?" when they SHOULD have simply known and COULD have simply Googled it. On day 2, I called them, and a way-too-cheery voice asked if she could help me. I said, "Are you a real person?" to which the response was, "No, I am AI, but I can help you . . . " I simply hung up. You have AI bots answering your TELEPHONE, and you don't know what county Baraboo is in? It all felt very "overseas-customer-service" or "west-African-scammer" to me. I also received an email from them after initiating that I had time the FOLLOWING week to discuss my case. They said they had an "agent" (not an attorney) who could discuss at 1pm that day. Did I say NEXT WEEK or that day? Again, maybe AI is answering their emails too. Ultimately, I decided against them in that I clearly don't know to whom I'm talking and, whoever it is, they're clearly not listening. read more

I would give this law firm no stars if I could. My father passed in 2020. Probate in NJ was 1 month, probate in Florida was 2 months!! We are going on 2 years for a simple probate case. It's pulling teeth to get a response from them. They are very quick to take your money though. Dont use them - useless!!! read more

I received the most horrific representation, was handed off several times and after 25,000 and no results was told the firm was too busy to represent, again after 2 years and 25,000!!! As was already stated by Levi in a different review, Dealing with Jeff Morrell and Sterling Lawyers has been nothing short of a scam. After a year so far dealing with this terrible law firm, they've continued to take advantage of my father in a terrible situation. The first attorney whom took his case was Hannah Smet, who spent 7 months kicking the can down the road, avoiding most all requests for responses and plan of actions for a timely divorce. It turned out she was leaving the firm anyways and this is why she was not concerned to handle my father's case. Jeff Morrell reached out to me and my father and I and vehemently apologized for the lack of representation and committed that if I allowed him and Jack Braaten to take the case, they would work diligently TOGETHER to get my fathers divorce taken care of. That I would be receiving a 2 for 1 deal and that I was also due a percentage of a refund of the $20,000 already spent for the lack of representation. This took place in November.. Now we are here in March and nothing but the same tactics to kick the can down the road to squeeze MORE money out of my father as they have not done ANYTHING, including but not limited to responding to requests of plan of actions, sending and\or delivering settlement offers to the opposing party, and working towards an amicable resolution. Instead, the only communication Jeff has ensured to send or respond to is additional fees, because him and the firm he is a SENIOR PARTNER of have only one goal, and that is to squeeze their victims of as as money as they can as they kick the can down the road with your case. I am in the process of filing grievances with the Wisconsin Bar and Court system, BBB, as well as reviews on every platform to protect others from being taken advantage of by this terrible firm of lawyers. Sterling law office has extremely poor customer service. While I was a client Albert Holl at first. I did enjoy working with Albert. Albert ended up leaving and relocating to another company. I was then Dan Exner after a very short time it appeared I was going to have a Smooth transition however I did not at all. I received little to no help from Dan Exner the most I got from him was several calls and invites for me to move over to his newly started legal firm. When I told him I was not interested and wanted to stay with Sterling law office I was ghosted. I then had to reach out to sterling law office several times. Before it was given new representation. Latrice Knighton then took over for Dan. During this time when Dan was MIA I had a time line that was missed making me in contempt. In all honesty Latrice did everything she could do that day in court to fix the issue however it did cost me several thousand dollars in lawyer fees from the defending party. Thank you sterling law firm thank you Dan Exner. If I was to give Latrice Knighton a star rating I would give her a 4 out of 5. I think she was honest and did the best she could with the hand she was left by Dan Exner. As for Latrice Knighton paralegal she is a joke and extremely rude and non professional in every way. read more

Truly disappointing. I hired attorney Mullin to help me in my case. Attorney Mullin didn't research anything and my case was dismissed in the first five minutes. Said she didn't have the information when it's all available on wisconsin court access. I don't know why she didn't research that before filing. Cost me plenty to hire her all for nothing. Now my case has to be refiled correctly and paying again to have something so simple done. She kept telling me she has 20 years expierence and I don't think she has even a year experience or this wouldn't have happened. Told me I need to have parts of my case handled by different attorneys now. Would not recommend her or this law firm. read more

Stay away at all costs! Sterling passed me to another lawyer when mine left and it all fell apart. Completely unresponsive and inattentive, my lawyer canceled our discovery meeting at the last minute twice, canceled our court date due to a personal emergency, it was rescheduled for a day I was out of town and she did nothing to move the court date for 3 months. Ultimately I canceled my contract, but not before paying for half of my retainer. It's hilarious that they made me pay anything after this debacle but apparently a few hundred dollars is worth me leaving this review every place I can find online. read more

I would NEVER recommend Sterling Law offices period! I paid (or should I say threw away) $4k dollars and was assigned (in my opinion) a novice attorney who advocated more for my ex & his benefits than for mine. They wanted me to pay $3k more to continue and I had to retain a new attorney in the middle of my divorce proceedings. They quoted me a fee (above the $4k I already paid) for just about everything I mentioned that could have been revealed during informal discovery. My assigned attorney could not even read a W2 properly. After my experience with my new attorney, I could go on and on about how grossly misrepresented I was at Sterling Law. Prior to leaving, I wrote a letter detailing my concerns and spoke to someone who was suppose to be my assigned attorney's senior (I guess) and that was a total waste of time. Once I was gone the lead attorney at the firm reached out to me for my feedback ( I guess this is standard procedure). I responded with another long letter detailing my experience and concerns and he never even responded. Going through a divorce is already difficult enough. PLEASE save yourself some money, time & heartache...do not do business with this firm. read more
