Half of my furniture was damaged or broken upon arrival. Several boxes were missing, and when I asked about them they told me that they were there and not to worry. They kept pestering me to sign the form that everything was there so they could leave. As soon as they left I noticed that several of the boxes were in fact missing and they were the boxes containing my most expensive items. I filed multiple claims citing the specific items that were missing, and all were denied because I was forced into signing the form. Not only did they charge me significantly more than originally quoted, they also lost thousands of dollars worth of my belongings and refuse to honor the claims. read more

Service was terrible/ men smelled of alcohol. Just a total nightmare. They didn't even wrap any of the furniture.

Our experience with Sterling Moving and Storage was nothing short of horrendous from start to finish. We were moving from Avon, CT to Hershey, PA. The movers showed up late and without the proper packing materials, they played rap music which we did not enjoy hearing and disassembled so many of our items that unfortunately they could not be put back together due to missing pieces. They packed our belongings with utter disregard for any kind of value to them. They made numerous trips back to Rhode Island in smaller trucks in order to drop off all of our things. A two day packing job turned into four days. The fact that all of our things were not loaded into a 52 Footer was concerning to us, but they assured us that they would put all of our household goods into a 52 Footer back in Rhode Island since one was not available the day of packing. Upon receiving our household goods in Pennsylvania, many of our things were broken. Sadly, we have also received items that don't even belong to us. Which means somewhere, someone is receiving our things. I have reached out to Mark Dutka, a VP at Sterling Moving and Storage and Craig Stakowski, who is a supervisor/manager both of whom we were in communication with during the relocation. Nightmare from start to finish, the packers infighting ended in 5 police cars at my home. The sales staff were useless and did little to secure new packers, ended up with a rag-tag team of guys the driver knew, at 6:00 that night, finished at 11:30 that evening. Almost everything was damaged, add insult to injury they denied most of my claimed items, after taking out the "better insurance". I watched them drop my furniture off the back of the truck, drag my dining table across the trucks doorway, all denied. North American Van lines wouldn't return any calls, Dodge me at every turn. If I could one star I would. As a military service member contracted move my items went in plastic ziplocks (that were intended to be BOXED) onto the truck. Instead they were loaded with tags onto the truck. Sadly, all of the bags arrived open. Along with broken antique furniture that were marked as high value inventory (loaded on their side on the truck). If you are military BEWARE! Do not do this. Our claim form is already over a page. Make sure you have a picture at your point of origin of the condition of your items. Insist on doing a PHYSICAL walk through for your items. Not a video one. Sadly, I have things I can't replace or fix. I called the company and no answer. We have to go through the claims process. But if you are military ask for any other company and not Suddath as your agent!!! You will have broken items and missing things. Our driver was very nice but the constraints they inflicted by changing the date to a one day move and pack is unacceptable. read more

Terrible moving company. Spent thousands to move 1.25hrs across state lines and purchased the full insurance. I moved 2/1/19. The movers showed up more than 1hr late, then proceeded to take 1hr getting ready. 2.5hrs after the scheduled time they were supposed to arrive and no box or item had even made it onto the truck. The two movers were polite and respectful and it got progressively colder as the day went on. Once at the destination, took much much longer to unload than pack up the truck. Movers slipped on snow that they tracked up onto the truck ramp (I don't blame them) and broke a bookcase. I got the full insurance, no problem, right? Two months later and no word of the repair. I called and was told I'd be getting a call any day to schedule delivery. Now 3months later, I call again. Below is the text I received....so it was never taken to be fixed in the first place. Hoping I'd forgot about it and they'd get to pocket my fee for full insurance without having to actually replace my damaged item?? Save yourself the nonsense and find another company. read more

Although we thought they did good job initially, as I unpacked, I realized I'm missing some items - bedding, box of Tupperware & couple other things. Their salesperson didn't tell us that we needed to empty dressers, night stands & cabinets so my husband ran to Home Depot for more boxes. They insisted on packing all these up so they were touching intimates & stuff we didn't think they'd touch. Felt bit invaded. I would have preferred to pack those items & put my labeling on rather than 'books' or 'pictures.' Not at all what was in the box. Do NOT pack in bags-shrinkable or garbage! They want everything in boxes. Bags get shoved into boxes. 1 box they packed had our wedding goblets packed on bottom with photo albums & wedding accessories on top. I was in tears when I opened it. NOT HAPPY! We moved over 4th of July weekend 2016. The lead guy on truck was older & very slow @ packing truck. 1500 sq ft house took 8 hours to pack. Really? Would not use again. Have not determined if we'll ask for $$ for not delivered items. If you choose to hire them, you additionally record all boxes & #s on boxes leaving your house & check off each box coming back in to new one. Make sure you got it all! read more

We have used this company twice to move us from CT to NH, and then back to CT. They were on time, and very courteous. They packed our dishes individually with great care, and since we're senior citizens, they gave us a break on the price. And they gave us the lowest proposal to start off with! Oh, yes, and we could take all the boxes we wanted from their warehouse with no questions asked. Great outfit. read more

I was worried after reading some of the reviews but the move went very smoothly and the men were very polite during the process. It was my first Navy move and my husband was not there the first day. I felt they packed my stuff with respect and they didn't just throw things in (as other people had commented about). I've booked a move with this company for this July....so far they have been amazing ... Prompt home inspection to see what kind of crap I had, open and honest billing (thus far). The thing I am most impressed with is the availability of the staff with questions and updates about the move...... The actual move isn't until next week.....so I will update this review after the actual move with how things went....but If it's anything like the service I've received thus far....it Should be great! *UPDATE Aug 6th 2015** My move is finally over with...and it was painless and easy with this crew from Streling Moving/North American. I paid less than the quoted price...and there were no hidden charges...very upfront with all of the billing. I did an international move from CT to Toronto, Ontario.....The crew that picked up in CT (Andrew, Chris and Jon) where fast, friendly and very professional...down to earth hard working guys....took great care with my stuff. My stuff arrived today in T.O....without issues..Andrew and Joel got the work done fast and everything is in one piece. Hats off to Brett in the office...my main contact throughout this move...he was quick with email responses and always answered his phone...thanks brett for all the hard work ... This was more stressful than selling my house in Ct. The worst Customer service and followup I have ever witnessed. If you have a salesman named Paul Ryan come to your house, don't believe a word he says and if the move gets a little tough, he'll just bail out on you. He comes across as very professional and soft spoken, but what he told me and what took place was a 180 degrees. He lied several times to me about what I should expect. Starting with the night before I was to be moved I'm contacted by an Allied Van driver telling me he's moving me. He knew for 5 days, but I never received any notice of the change from Mr. Ryan or Sterling. I was promised a full crew from a Florida N/A office in Tampa to move us in and nobody but the two guys on the truck from CT. showed up. My wife and I had to help move and it still took 8 hours because one of the movers was lazy and had a very poor attitude. We're in our 60's and it was very stressful difficult. We had damage to several walls, torn mattress pad and they chipped my cherry desk. When I finally spoke later in the week after several attempts with Mr. Ryan, and asked what happen and if he could do something for us, he simply gave me a 800 number and said call them, and than stated, "this situation is above my pay grade". I was taken back any that response. That's why I'm painfully writing this review because he was so arrogant on the phone and could have careless what took place. Never once did he even say I'm sorry for the confusion or apologizes for all the changes. Nobody from Sterling ever reached out to at least acknowledge what happened. I'm not enjoying writing this and I could go on, but I feel other people should know this and be prepared for last minute changes. In ending, one of the gentleman who was at my house in CT., told me that he didn't call because I might have changed companies and he didn't want to lose his commission..Interesting comment...Sterling Movers failed and never once reached out to my wife or me. Im giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because of coordination in the beginning. First let me say that Mike and his son are top notch movers. I absolutely loved them. They did such a great job and without Mike I would have forgotten my decorative rock in the front yard! Thanks Mike! Communication between my driver/mover as my household was in transit was super! Everything arrived in perfect condition. They took great care to lay out floor protection coverings as well as corners on walls. If you get this father son team you are lucky! The only glitch was when I made the original moving arrangements. I was flexible on pick up date and hoped to get it from Ct to Florida on a certain date. I was led to believe this was possible only to find out once everything was packed and in transit that it would not be there for a week. I was told its in the print which it was but my move coordinator verbally told me no problem so I believed him. Make sure you are clear when planning your move. Verbal statements dont mean anything if you sign the paperwork that says your goods can arrive anywhere up to 10 days after pickup. Other than that and getting through that hitch, living in new house with nothing...I loved Mike and his son! They are the reason I would use this company again! read more

We regret hiring this company for an out-of-state move. They were very nice and professional when they came to our home to assess what would be moved. The three movers that showed up on moving day were nice, but they broke a storm door that was only 3 months old and a headboard. Then everything arrived to the destination a full week late. When I spoke to execs at Sterling, they didn't apologize for anything, but immediately became defensive. Don't use these guys. read more

We moved 3 months ago from Connecticut to Florida. We took the insurance to cover any damages that might occur during the move. It didn't matter because they damaged our mattress of a value of almost $3,000. We made the claim but they won't pay for anything. So disappointed. I don't recommend them. read more

NIGHTMARE! Brett moved me from MD to SC what a disaster. Didn't realize the MD pack-up was such a nightmare until I went outside and saw the mess in the alley, and I had already tipped the two clowns! I specifically told them they only had 3 to 4 hours to get this move done, I was VERY specific when I booked the company - they moved like snails. Gets worse, somewhere along the way my stuff was unpacked and repacked - asked both Sterling and North American where in the documents does it say you can do that - asked twice - to date no response the move was in July 2017. They unpacked a king and queen set of mattress and put them in a wood box on the outside of the truck - both sets arrived soaking wet! Ask Brett to rectify the situation but he keeps referring the problem to the imaginary office on the sky! I chose the cheaper insurance - so they basically don't care - if I chose the most expensive insurance maybe they would NOT HAVE UNPACKED my stuff and the $6,000 worth of mattresses would be ok - but I would have to wait for an inspector. The people at both companies Sterling and North American can't be bothered and really don't care - the claims people are like robots and are down right nasty. Brett at Sterling could do the right thing and rectify this situation but he chooses not to. We just finished unpacking - more damaged items which I had to put in a claim and we have a tone of stuff missing. You can see where boxes were opened and re-taped If you pack in the plastic bins BE CAREFUL - several were opened and stuff is missing. - The drive that arrived in SC - looked tires so I asked - he only had fours hours of sleep...isn't that illegal? While being unpacked in SC another North American drive kept calling my driver - he finally told the party on the phone to go out in the truck and jump up and down on boxes until everything fit! - If this was your load, let me know - I have the conversation recorded on my cell phone. Bottom line, once they have your money..............neither company Sterling or North American could care less...........sad state, but what goes around comes around :). Your best bet use ABF Freight they drop off a trailer you pack it or can hire people to pack it, you lock it they pick it up and deliver it or use PODS same thing, you have control over your stuff and since you lock the freight boxes - nothing gets stolen! Very dissatisfied...............and the saddest of all, Sterling moved me from CT to MD - the team that packed me a year ago in CT was stellar! I used this moving company instate and they were just fine. I used them again to go from CT to TN and it was awful! My boxes were crushed, crystal broken, captain chair broken and a list of so many more items damaged. I took out insurance w/o a deductible, at least I'll get the value back. It's upsetting when this happens. read more
