I've been a patient for over 10 years, but today's interaction seriously made me reconsider continuing care at this office. The office manager was openly rude, dismissive, and shockingly uninformed. When my usual contact lens brand (Acuvue Moist) was unavailable, I was given a different brand (BioTrue). I asked a very basic question: what is the difference between these two lenses? Her only response, repeated multiple times, was "the price." That answer isn't just incorrect, it's illogical. A significant price difference exists because there are differences in materials, moisture retention, comfort, and wear. When pressed, she said she "doesn't wear contacts" and therefore couldn't explain, an odd excuse for someone managing an optometry office. You do not need to personally use a product to understand or explain it. By that logic, no medical professional could explain medications they don't personally take. She made no effort to look up the information, ask another staff member below her, or provide any meaningful help. Instead, she was condescending and dismissive throughout the entire interaction. The trial lenses were uncomfortable, immediately dried my eyes, and caused blurry vision confirming that there are, in fact, differences she refused to acknowledge. Even after I told her how they immediately felt, she just would repeat the same phrase of "I don't wear contacts so I wouldn't know" and smile condescendingly. Aly has consistently been the only professional, knowledgeable, and helpful employee I've worked with over the years, and my decision about whether to continue care here will depend entirely on whether future visits can be handled through her without further interaction like this. Poor office leadership and an unwillingness to assist patients reflect badly on the entire practice. If your eyes dry out or blur with a given brand, that's a legitimate, physiological response, not something that can be dismissed as "just price." Professional staff should be able to explain these differences or check with another colleague rather than giving a non-answer. read more

The optometrist Dr. Castillo is one of a kind, and that is excellent. The staff in Hialeah is also excellent. Five Stars for the staff and five for Dr. Castillo as well. The only reason that I can't give them five stars is that I CAN NOT GET A HOLD OF ANYONE ON THE PHONE. Not just Hialeah, all three of your stores. I was pleasantly greeted when I walked in by the staff . I was early but they took me right away and the medical assistant took into the room and measured and examined my eyes for glaucoma and showed me my eyeballs which I found interesting and educational. She was through and from there she took into Dr Stern's office. She was a charming lovely lady- knowledgeable and also explained everything and also very through. I liked treated with such respect. After she was finished she took me to the front office and Aly Rodriquez showed me my option for glasses within my price range covered by my insurance and I wanted tint so she was so nice and patiently showed me all my options. Asked if they could be mailed and she said "Oh, No - we have to be sure they fit properly." I was impressed with their care and knew I could trust them. I'm picking them up 2 weeks on the 12th of May. Overall very happy with their examine and prices very reasonable. I would recommend without reservation. read more

I didn't realize my vision insurance Spectera had so many limitations. Another location told me they would only cover exams but not frames. But when I called Vision Care, they told me to come in and they'll see what they can do. This was my first time here and I'm so glad I found this place. Dr. Laurie Stern was very informational and thorough with my eye exam. I love that she doesn't use the blowing machine (whatever that's called. lol ) to examine my eyes, but uses various eye drops instead. After looking at my eyes, she knew I couldn't wear contacts because it irritates the hell out of me. And it's true, but I've always thought maybe my contacts were just the wrong fit. She also prescribed me some allergy eye drops which I'm hoping will work! After my exam, Nick helped me pick out frames. He was extremely helpful. It's very hard for me to find frames that I like. I was surprised he actually picked out several frames that I liked and I was able to find one that I really love. I can't wait to get them. They did end up taking my insurance and everything went well. If you're looking for an optometrist in the area, stop looking now and call them! read more

I enjoy coming here because Dr. Stern always remembers my son and I and she is great. The receptionists are always pleasant as well. They always help with recommendations and give their input when trying out your new frames. They have a great variety of frames from non-branded styles to branded styles like Ray Ban and Kate Spade. I love their Kate Spade collection and I'm always debating on which one to choose. The appointments go quick and the doctor explains everything to ensure we understand. Just went for my yearly eye exam for exam & new glasses. In a world where customer service and professional expertise will get you a belly laugh, its awful nice to know that some offices don't change OR get better. Believe this was my 25th year with Dr. Laurie Stern and Company and the Doctor is still outstanding and the staff professional, courteous and willing to help as much as possible. Went here for a few years but trying to do my exam and they no longer accept my insurance (Cal Optima) instead of calling or informing me prior, I had to call to find out and my last years prescription was apparently not recorded and it was just a wellness check so now I have to find a new eye doctor at the drop of a dime because there was NO communication on not taking my insurance anymore and they don't have a prescription fore from last year, but somehow I had my contact prescription when I ordered my contacts so I'm confused. read more

I'm not new to the eye care game-- 16 years of experience. I went in for my second ever visit to her office for contacts and an eye exam. My takeaway from each visit: Dr. Stern excels at her profession. If you're one to be anxious for any type of personal care appointment, her new office is more spacious, has a TV, a fish tank, and a few other items to keep you occupied in the waiting room. Both her and her staff have the chemistry to get you in and out quickly while also maintaining a feeling of highly personalized service. Both my experiences have been outstanding; her assistant, Allie, was very friendly and made me feel welcome. It felt like they had known me my entire life. I have a been a patient of Laurie Stern, OD, a VSP doctor for the past two years now for my eye exams, soft contacts, and glasses. When I first heard about new soft contact lens for those with astigmatism, I was excited to get rid of my old hard contacts. Since I live almost a stone's throw from here (located near Trader Joe's and Burger King) and had VSP, I decided to give her a try. My exam was free (with VSP) but she suggested that I do an additional test that takes a closer look at my eye lens since I have a large eye prescription. It only took minutes and we were glad to find nothing wrong. The normal eye exam went very well and we chatted a bit since her son was in AP chemistry and I taught that subject at that time too. Lastly, she found a trial contact for me to try for clarity and comfort. When we were through, Nick, the receptionist, helped me ordered the contacts (I thought of ordering online but I figured that it was my first order). Within weeks, I got a call saying that my contacts were here. He asked if I needed help trying soft contacts and I said I did. After the trying session, I was off with a free trial box of Alcon Opti-Free Replenish cleaning solution! A year later, I needed new glasses since my frames were falling apart. I went in for another eye exam and even though my yearly date for free exam won't arrive until another 2 weeks, Dr. Stern held off the billing until the 1st of next month! Nick personally went through their glasses collection and I tried one glasses after another until we found the one I have now. A week later and right before my trip to Japan, I got my call and had my glasses waiting for me! read more

Making an appointment is super easy here, or you may be lucky and come in on a walk-in basis if they're not busy. The staff here is excellent, very friendly, and helpful. The doctor equally helpful, informative, and efficient. My appointment was quick, around 20 minutes from beginning to end. There are a lot of local choices for optometrists in the area, but I hrecommend this place based on their level of customer service. read more

Well if your a new patient beware. Non-professional young office gals at the desk wearing mini-skirts and talk like valley girls. The place does not appear clean or orderly and full of clutter (notice no photos of their actual indoor facility are posted). The doctor rushed through my exam and wrote me a bad prescription. When I got my new glasses I couldn't see anything. I didn't want to go back there so I went to another eye doctor whom corrected my prescription. This place is not for me. read more

Dr Laurie Stern is an excellent Optometrist. I have been coming to her for 12+ years and she never fails to give a good thorough exam. Her staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about insurance. I have occasionally had to call in the weeks just before my annual appointment to ask for a pair of contacts to get me through until I get into their office. Never a problem, never a charge, just mailed to my home. I now live 25 miles away from Dr Stern's office, but won't ever change coming to her for my eye exams! I love this office! I got the cutest pair of Paul Smith glasses and also Oakley sunglasses for my partner. They always have such an enormous variety for me to choose from. They were very helpful and also give great discounts if I wanted a second pair. I don't wear contacts at all, but they were offering me plenty of trials and solution if I wanted to try them out. Dr. Stern is the most careful, courteous, friendly, professional optometrist I've ever had! I won't go anywhere else. Nick, their lens tech, had my glasses ready in one day! I've never been gauged on price and they are always fair even if my insurance doesn't cover everything! I got an eye infection on a Saturday night and called and left a message on Dr. Stern's voicemail. She called a prescription in to a 24 hr pharmacy near my house within 1 hour of my call. I'm still very happy considering I'm getting a rebate for my purchase from here a while back. If anyone is considering a local eye place, come here! They have a lot to offer and bargain prices for glasses, contacts, and exams. I'm glad I left my old eye care professionals because I'm getting hooked up here with even better prices and more personable service. I was considering LASIK surgery (to cut my eyeballs) but now I must rethink my options since I'm so satisfied with the service and pricing. Dr. Stern and her staff are always friendly and helpful. I've been seeing her for the past 7 years, and I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes from my appointment time to be seen. Everyone is always so professional, courteous, and thorough with information and options. Dr. Stern is a lifesaver for me, as she caught my retinal detachment super early and helped me get that taken care of immediately even though my insurance was giving me problems. The staff didn't give up and battled my insurance for an hour until they were able to send me to a specialist immediately, who confirmed Dr. Stern's diagnosis. Way to go! read more
