Unfortunately, the owner's pushy/aggressive demeanor and the way she berated me in front of my guests was unacceptable. Many of the party guests found her to be offensive (rushing them, being unnecessarily bossy, rude to both the children and adults). I gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured she just ran a tight ship to keep the place clean and party on schedule, although I did feel very rushed during food/cake time. I actually have her on video loudly hurrying my daughter to blow out her birthday candle! Towards the end of the party, I generously gave a $50 tip to our party attendant. The owner ran over, snatched the tip out of her hand and dramatically laid the money out on the table, counted it OUT LOUD bill by bill and started YELLING AT ME that it was not enough! I can't believe I was treated this way after spending over $600 at her establishment for a 2 hour party (only the first 30-40 min of it was actually run by them- the rest was free time while they ate in the back). She would not let up after several minutes, telling me that culturally I should tip 15% of the party total (I should add that she was including the $80 in pizza I ordered and tipped for in that total) and that most people tip $45-$60 per party attendant (she considers herself, the owner, to be an attendant). When I told her I did not have any more cash on me she demanded I venmo the party attendant (she was so embarrassed she refused to give me her venmo) She would not let up until I told her she was ruining my daughter's special day. My friends and family who overheard the incident were appalled. Gratuity is at the discretion of the customer. If she wanted to include required gratuity in her price, she should have done so.

It's the people who are doing this, Doug and his team. They are the reason LakeView Day Camp has been a huge success since Doug took over. Doug and his team are in this to serve the families, not just to have commercial success. The programming is brilliant. We've said many times that we wish they did adult camps on weekends. :-) If you haven't checked it out, I'd highly recommend it. Go on a tour or an event. Meet the nice people. They really try hard to accommodate any issues and things do happen so tell them if there is an issue so they can help. They have corrected bus issues or stepped in to address other minor problems over the years and always left us feeling like they really care about their campers. Doug, the owner is very visible and works hard to leave campers with a positive experience whether they are 5 or 15 years old. They have a beautiful camp with a lovely lake, a hot lunch and healthy snacks like fruit. They just put in a huge new pool 2 years ago. They have a nice teen program as well.

Based on his comments and what I've seen when dropping him off and picking him up, the instructors relate well to the campers. That's a huge plus. As a parent, my expectations for what he gets out of the camp are realistic and have been met every year. I don't expect my son to walk out of there an expert in whatever course he took that week. There's also a discovery den AKA play area indoors for $1. There's animals/insects outdoors such as turkey vultures, turtles, a butterfly house and a bird observatory (cute on the inside with toys for the kiddos - be sure to read the story about the couple who opened the center). And a natural playscape outdoors. There's also a bunch of fairy houses throughout the property that girl scouts donated. And lots of trails through the forest. They also have Magic Mornings for ages 2-4 Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - but register ahead as they only have a certain amount of spots each day (it's seasonal - they have in fall and spring but not summer - see website). It's an hour class for $10 and includes a snack, craft, nature walk etc. They usually pull out an animal each class. It's great to get some time in nature with other kids. In summer, they have a full week of Magic Mornings in their Itty Bitty Briar Camp. Ms. Heidi teaches it and she is just great. They have a different theme every day such as sun, water, clouds etc and there's an activity each day (visit pond and catch tadpoles, water play, craft pertaining to theme). They have preschool pioneers for ages 4-5 and summer camp for older kids for a week in late June. *Just beware in June that parking is limited due to school field trips and you may not fit in either of the lots; you may have to park out front of the house to the left (which is fine - she just doesn't want buses idling there) They also have field trips to gardens and to the shore, classes for seniors, family nature nights, hot smores nights... Only negative (besides parking, which they can't really control), is the "snacks" for kids at Magic Mornings aren't the healthiest. One was cinnamon sugar graham crackers with whipped cream- regular would have been fine. 2 days were cheddar gold fish. Another day was blue jello with whipped cream. And some red licorice - the kind that whips. Fruit Loops were used for colors. So, if you don't like your child eating sugar, let them know you have a dietary restriction or bring your own snack (snack time is ~10 min and probably not needed but the kids always love snack time!). Some options that would be healthier and just as easy would be pretzel sticks, fruit, crackers, popcorn, veggies, string cheese...but I guess those all cost more besides pretzels/crackers/popcorn.

As a family we have seen the program grow over the years and continue to bring soccer learning to life along with character education in every soccer shots class for all students ages 2 - 8 across this Central NJ region.
