Wow! This was the first live magic show I have attended in my adult life, and boy it did not disappoint. I was in awe literally the whole time with my jaw dropping to the floor on many occasions! Not only did Steve have great charisma and story telling skills, he also showcased a plethora of insane tricks that had the whole crowd including myself, in a state of shock. The beautiful location, intimate setting and interactive elements makes this experience something truly personal and incredibly magical! Last night was the 2nd time I saw Steve and he was just as amazing as the first time I saw him. His magic, illusions will astound you....no other explanation how he performed what he did except he is truly gifted. Its a 90 minute show, lots of interaction with his audience. Two illusions Steve did was a trick called Think A Drink where the audience wrote their favorite drink on a piece of paper. There were 4 or 5 pitchers with small glasses that were brought out beforehand. Steve collected all the papers and just held them in his hand. Then he called on random people, asked them what they wrote on the paper. He then poured a drink from the pitcher. It was the drink they wrote! Another was he asked the audience to write 3 facts about themselves and again collected a the papers and held the pile in his hand. He actually came to where I was sitting and asked is there a Michelle here and I raised my hand. He said you wrote something about your hair, you haven't changed it in a long time! I swear I almost fell off my chair!! LOL I wrote I have had the same hairstyle since the 1980s! Steve's performance throught the evening was not only memorizing, brilliant, fun...but as a person Steve is a humble, funny and genuine! He loves his audience and brought us a night of pure Magic! I promise you that everything about Steve's performance will leave you wanting to share your unbelievable night with every person you talk to! This was about so much more than magic! He somehow is a mind reader as well reading most everyone in the room. The setting is extremely intimate, so everyone gets in on the action. I was skeptical because I knew it was a small room and was concerned that we wouldn't be able to view anything if we didn't purchase front row seats. It didn't take long to realize, my concern wasn't needed. Not only was the show simply amazing and all around fun, Steve made sure to crack jokes and make things so interesting. Often times he would have the back row stand up and move inwards so we could see everything. The whole show was interactive and was amazing to watch people go up front and join him. It was great because it didn't matter where you sat, he made sure to go all throughout the audience so it wasn't just the front row being chosen for things. I can't tell anyone how much my fiance and I loved this show. It's only been 2 days and we want to go back and bring all of our family and friends. read more

The magic show by Steve was great, this review is solely based on seating and price. My party came early to get proper seats because I spent 518 dollars for 2 front row seats and wanted good spots. When we got let in, I was disappoint to see that the center front seats were reserved! How is that possible when I paid the highest price available on the site? And some parties arrived even earlier and got the next best seats so we got seated at the far end. I wish I knew front row didn't actually mean a chance to get to sit at the center. There must be some special off listing ticket? Or these people have connections. I wish the site said some seats were reserved at center. I do feel misled in not knowing because I bought them thinking it was possible, so you're really fighting for the outer middle and end seats. It stung even more knowing there were discounted tickets for 109 dollars a ticket this weekend to be seated anywhere in the room. But the third row seats are the same distance as the far left or right first row seats so I don't think it was worth spending a whopping 300 dollars more for two people. Steve did his best effort to involve everyone in the room but I couldn't help but feel really sore about the 300 dollars I paid extra and wish I had just bought the discounted tickets. :( read more

As a hobby magician myself, I can say very confidently that this show is some of the most entertaining and high-end magic I've seen in quite a while. Every aspect of this performance, from its location to its contents, transports you a time and format when magic was reserved for the elite, and nobody does this format justice like "The Millionaire's Magician" Steve Cohen. We were fortunate enough to sit front and center for the entire performance, but every chair in the room is close to the action, and Cohen encourages the audience to stand and surround him during the performance, that I feel we could have sat anywhere in the room and seen every move with perfect clarity. Steve is a natural performer, no doubt a testament to his over 20 years of experience in this show alone. His command of the room, comedic timing, and engagement of the audience really make you feel like you're watching something special, and not just "some guy doing magic." Within the magic community, Steve Cohen is a well-known and well-respected magician and magic historian, and it reflects strongly in every aspect of the performance. The feats performed in the show hit a number of disciplines that take years to master, and Cohen shows that mastery effortlessly. One of his signature acts, known as the "Think a Drink", is an absolute impossibility, somehow strengthened by the reactions of the audience throughout. I have seen all the great Las Vegas magician's from Lance Burton to Chris Angel. Been to hundreds of magic shows, meet just as many magicians in my 64 years and seen all kinds of card tricks and illusions. Steve Cohens show is absolutely amazing, unique, original and your are making a huge mistake if you visit NYC and do not go to this show. It's in the beautiful Lotte Plaza Hotel, in small private theater just off the beautiful Golden Room Bar. Follow the signs through the bar to get to his theater. His presentation and performance is the best of the best. If you want to be absolutely amazed and entertained to the point you feel your not watching a magician but Harry Potter, then go to this show. I promise you will not regret it. Overall enjoyable experience with a few flaws... 1) parking at the palace is impossible 2) the reminder email invites you to have drinks in the lobby bar BUT FOR 2PM SHOWS NONE OF THE BARS ARE OPEN 3) this is a very expensive magic show at a high end hotel... surely they could afford a coat check... but instead there is a a crowded coat rack. Odd choice considering they ask you to dress in cocktail attire. 4) general admission tickets apply only to the 4th row (there are only 4 rows). So basically they charge extra for the majority of the room. But the hotel is beautiful (especially the courtyard) and the show is very entertaining. I know there are a world full of magicians, and a world full of doubting Thomases, but I really enjoyed this show. Ultimately, of course they are tricks but we were all transported. The Idea of dressing up and going into this beautifully ornate room really lets all attendees feel special. The room was a good size and the audience is limited to about 60. (Btw, my daughter-in-law, who happens to be a designer, says for you guys to change those two table lamps!) The magic not only included most audience members but was presented effortlessly. So fun and entertaining. I don't generally like magic shows but Steven Cohen converted me today. The setting is gorgeous and it was worth wearing a sport coat and tie! Every part of the show is mystifying and incredible. So original and unexpected, Steven has a great talent to perform and entertain and his warm and original personality made the time fly by. Steve Cohen must be a smart cookie. He has a degree from Cornell, sports rimless glasses and a three-piece suit, and his expression exudes intensity. But I will remember him most as a gifted magician who captured my full attention during his amazing 90 minute show at the Waldorf last year. I didn't expect the show would be at a fancy suite in the hotel. And I didn't expect I could watch him at such close quarters. While I managed to snag front-row seats, the performance conjures up the intimate setting of 19th century parlor magic regardless of where you are seated. Steve's portfolio of tricks included Think-A-Drink--a tea kettle that produced five different drinks, all at the audience's request, and also mind reading (really?), and cards. If you are not averse to spending almost $100 a ticket on a magic show (note: I have a great interest in magic), I would strongly urge you to experience Steve's show at the Waldorf. Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic is simply amazing! I got vouchers on Gilt City for me and my family and I was extremely excited to see the show. It was everything I expected and more. The whole concept is so delightful, I've recommended it to all of my friends. Steve Cohen has found a way to truly recreate the intimacy of an 18th century parlor performance. The show takes place in an elegant suite on the 35th floor of the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York. And let me tell you - he isn't called the Millionaires' Magician for nothing. The audience consists of only 50 people, which creates a more intimate atmosphere. Each and every one gets the chance to participate. There is a dress code - jackets and ties for gentlemen and cocktail attire for the ladies. Even my father (who is kind of hard to impress) was speechless at one point. It was right after Mr. Cohen poured dad's favorite drink - vanilla latte out of a kettle. He had a margarita, a cosmopolitan and even an orange juice come out of the same kettle minutes before that. Mind blown. Btw I never lost sight of the kettle. Not to mention that all of these drinks were written down on tiny pieces of paper by different random people in the audience. I won't reveal anything else. But I strongly recommend the Chamber Magic to everyone! Some of the tricks are mind blowing. No idea how he did them or know them. My family and I saw Steve's show a few weeks ago, and we loved it. I am not -- as a general rule -- into magic shows, but I very much appreciate a deft performance. Steve's show is brilliant on both scores. The act is filled with truly impressive (and equally unfathomable!) tricks, many of which are fresh and original. But they are woven together with a performance that is genuine, funny, engaging and delightful. Wrap all of that in a beautiful venue populated with snappily dressed audience members (the dress code may be Steve's best trick!), and you are in for a great experience. New York can be an unforgiving place for all but the best performers, and Steve is without a doubt worthy of that rank. I'd happily go again. read more

When my boyfriend bought expensive tickets to a magic show, I didn't know what to expect. Maybe animal balloons? Well, no balloon tricks here! The magician was funny and personable. I loved how he made an effort to involve everyone person in the audience. Each performance was about 10 mins and each trick was better than the last. We had seats on the second row. Personally, I think it was the most practical choice since each row differ in price. We were close enough to see everything and not far enough to peak over any shoulders. We were there a few months ago, I've been wanting to share my review since then. This was the most disappointing show I've ever seen! Don't come here expecting magic tricks, most of the show is based on 'reading audience's' minds, which was a total disappointment. There were 2 people sitting in the front row, Steve constantly picked them for his 'mind-reading' tricks, which made us think that these were his own people. Then there was a part where they gave out cards to the audience and asked us to write 3 random facts about us and collected the cards. Then Steve, holding his notebook, as if it was random, started reading facts from there. Then he said 'someone in this audience speaks Turkish'. It was me. I hadn't listed this fact on the paper. How did he know that? Well, we all give out our names 1-2 weeks before the show and how hard is it to google someone's name and look at their LinkedIn profile to see what they do, what languages they speak?! I was not impressed at all, having gone to a lot of magic shows before, including David Copperfield's, this was nowhere close to being a magic show. I wish he showed some tricks, at least then we would be entertained, rather than spending half an hour on listing Googled facts about the people in the audience. read more

Steve has great dexterity with cards. And a couple of cool tricks (brick under the hat, magic drink kettle), of which I wish there were more. What really irritated me, however, was the "mentalist" part of the program, between 20 and 30 minutes at the end, where Steve "read people's minds". Or rather, identified specific things - say, that a "David" had something to do with a fire (local hero), or that a "Susan" had something to do with dates on pages (owned a plant that printed a lot of calendars), or a traveler from Virginia had a house on the corner. Geez - the audience *bought tickets* using their real names and address, and Google and LexisNexus can turn up this information in a couple of minutes. Mentalist - bah. Kind of a let down? I don't know how else to describe it. Sat front row and was very excited to see the show. Obviously knew it got 4.5 on Yelp and heard from friends it was outstanding. Positives: 1) Waldorf pomp and circumstance. A good excuse to get dressed up and go do something "different" in New York. 2) Sitting inches away from the magic - definitely recommend getting 1st or 2nd row seats, and/or showing up early to sit toward the center center so you have a good view of what's happening. 3) A few of the tricks were great. Otherwise... I don't know. It was good for the first half and then it sort of fell off a cliff of attempted mind reading, which felt a lot more forced and was pretty unimpressive. Also, I don't think I liked Cohen's "I'm really a big deal" attitude. Not a must-see for me. read more

You caught me, I sometimes watch David Blaine specials on television. I actually prefer the parodies on YouTube, but I still get somewhat intrigued by the very allegation of magic. Although I don't still believe in Santa Claus, I never really gave a definitive no to magic. I watched The Illusionist and The Prestige with an open mind and became somewhat transfixed with their suggestions of magic. I really would like to see someone pull a rabbit out of a hat, but maybe this is all me. I was gifted this show by a great friend and fortunately my children were allowed to go as well. It is more geared toward adults, but children over 10 are welcome although my kids were not asked for I.D. at the door as they clearly were below the recommended minimum age and height. We sat front row in a small gathering that could hold about 50 people if full and were amazed throughout by the showmanship of Steve Cohen and dare I say it, the magic. There are card tricks which some always try to explain away even though they become truly amazing. There is mind-reading which goes far beyond an internet search engine and visibly shocks some. I think one of the best things about this show is how intimate is. You are right there and you can see everything. The audience is involved throughout and it is a really fun time. I have to say that while much of the show was excellent and exciting, there was one trick that is vexing my mind still. It is called Think-A-Drink and is probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen performed in my life. I will certainly not give it away as this should be seen in person, but I was one of the people who was involved in the trick so I got to see and taste first hand something completely mind-bending. I would find it hard to believe that someone would be disappointed here. It is only an hour and half, you are asked to dress nicely and it is really like seeing an old time magic show (without someone getting cut in half). I would put this on everyone's to-do list, it is certainly something unique and very impressive. read more

I don't have enough good things to say about Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic. I'd love to write them all but I don't want to ruin any of the show for you guys. Keep in mind, it's no longer at the Waldorf...it moved to the Lotte. Don't worry, it's very classy and has a great bar in the lobby (Trouble's Trust - I'd highly recommend it). I LOVE magic. I've seen tons of shows in person and on TV and this was by far the best. I like to tell myself I'm grounded in reality (my boyfriend may beg to differ) but I don't have any explanation for this show beside the fact that it's REAL MAGIC. That's the only answer I have. First off, sincere props to Yelp's very own magical mistress: Maritess Z! I can't wait to see your show!! I'm always amazed by the coordination of magicians. Even if I know how it's done, the skill and dedication to make a trick work every single time is just impressive. At $55/person, Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic is a treat. Bring a date or some out-of-town friends and I promise it will be a fun evening for everyone. Cohen is the consummate showman. Always talking or telling jokes, he sells the experience on a personal level for each member of his audience. He's also very careful to have the audience choose their own volunteers -- sometimes asking three different people to pass on their volunteering duties to someone they don't know -- so at least there's an attempt to be genuine. Steve Cohen also knows his magic! After a short intro and quick history of the ballroom (the suite was also home to some famous US Generals back in the day), he got into the tricks: cards to and from the audience, rings swirled together and taken apart, mind-reading everything from cities to names of pets to people's birthdays. He also did a great trick with a "magic teapot" that poured different drinks from the same spout, even though he never took off the lid. Very cool. One of the best things about the show was the small size of the audience. Just 60 guests are admitted into each show, 25-30 on each side of a center aisle. Obviously, front-and-center is the best, but I was on the far edge of a row and I could see what was happening without having to stretch over too many bobbing heads. It felt very exclusive but still comfortable. Final tips: 1) There isn't assigned seating, so arrive 30 minutes early if you absolutely need that middle-front seat. 2) There are also some kids, but the website discourages parents from bringing children under 8 years old. 3) Dress code varies; Cohen is in a tux & tails (very chic), and the general vibe is business casual. Of course, tourists will be tourists...but I didn't see too many Birkenstocks & white socks, so that's something, I suppose. read more

Tremendously entertaining, with a couple of caveats. On the pro side, the show really is unique. The suite at the Waldorf is intimate and dignified. (Definitely arrive 15-30 minutes early to get the best seats; the entry you want is on 50th, off Park.) The audience is asked to dress up, and the vast majority do so. And Steve Cohen is a talented showman and a sleight-of-hand genius. The card tricks are stellar, and "Think-a-Drink" is astonishing. On the con side, the "mentalist" part of the act can be a bit hokey. Although I was amazed, at the time, that he knew something odd about me, it was pretty easy afterward to figure out how he knew it (um, would you believe Facebook?). And I guessed how another trick worked, not because I'm so smart, but from simple observation of the furniture on my way out. Regardless, it's still a wonderful show, and an unusual night out. After reading about this, the girlfriend and I decided to take her parents out to a fun night in NYC ending with this show. It's held in a small room inside the Waldorf Astoria hotel. There are about 50 people or so only and it feels really intimate. Steve gave some history about the Waldorf, the show, and himself before getting involved in some crazy tricks. I'm one of those who sees magic shows on TV and I really don't care. The stuff that Steve does, however, is really amazing. There's no bare naked women distracting the audience or crazy music playing as he does things. It's simple, in your face, how the f*** did he do that magic. I don't want to go into detail regarding the tricks he performed but I will say that it was worth all the money I paid for it....and I even wanna go again. read more

My man and I saw the Chamber Magic show in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons this past Saturday night for the first time. It was my boyfriends birthday and this was something totally fun and different to do, instead of the usual usual. We had a blast!! There's a nice dress code that's enforced so everyone is all dressy and shiny, including Mr. Cohen himself, which lends to the fun vibe. This show is incredibly dynamic, funny and well-crafted. 95% of his tricks went off without a snag and he does LOADS of slight of hand magic tricks (my fave kind of magic) all night long. Everything is done up close in plain light with no wonky smoke & mirrors that ruin the magicalness. By the end of the night, our crowd was in full frenzy at how he pulled of his last two tricks (unbelievable card tricks that I've never seen) and everyone we left in a great mood, full of wonderment. If he's performing when we're in NYC next month, it would definitely be worth it to see him again. read more
