I dropped my vehicle off for an oil change and tire rotation. The tires were not rotated. The right rear tire has a scuff mark on the side wall that was there when the vehicle was dropped off (the other 3 do not have scuff marks). Kyle called and told me the service was completed, but that I also needed a 4 wheel drive service to swap out the fluids and that would be an additional $580 dollars, I declined the service. I looked at the maintenance schedule that came with the truck when I bought it new it does not show that service until 97,500 miles, I am at 62,000 miles. (The same service was offered and declined at the previous service.) The chart on Greg and Kyle's desks that the dealership is using to show when the services are due appears to be the severe driving conditions chart. I feel like they are pushing services that are not yet due and just assuming the severe conditions apply to all. When I picked up the vehicle on 2/13/25 the tire with the scuff mark was still on the right rear, but I was still charged for the tire rotation that obviously was not done. I called and talked to Kyle who I had done the drop off and pick up with, he said he would check with the tech and call me back. Kyle called back and said according to the tech they were rotated, he said his manager was out but he would have him call me back on Monday 2/17/25. Mark called on 2/17/25 and informed me that he was aware of the situation and had talked to the tech, and the shop steward and they both said the tires were rotated, and he would have to stand behind his guys. He said he did not want to lose me as a customer so he offered to give me a refund on the tire rotation. I told him I did not think the refund would repair the trust that had been lost. Mark said he hoped I would continue to do business with them. He said he would dig into it, I said I would wait to hear back from him. 2/18/25 I called Mark and he said there was nothing else to dig into, he stands behind his crew 110 percent, but he would have the office issue a refund and have it mailed to my address. I asked how is it possible to rotate the tires and have the same tire still on the right rear. He said he could not explain it. I told him you can't fix a problem that you won't admit. I said I don't think I will be doing business there in the future. He said that was my choice, but I am the one walking away. I told him I don't feel I can trust Steve Schmitt for my needs any more. He said he could not believe I would throw away a six year relationship over a tire rotation. I also asked Mark the service manager how is it possible to rotate the tires without removing any of the dust from the lug nuts or wheels. Again he had no answer. He did ask me if I had checked the inside of all the tires to see if the scuff had been turned to face inward. I asked him when do they ever remove the tires from the rims and then rebalance them during a tire rotation. Oh yes and they are raised white letter tires, the lettering is only ever on one side of the tire and they are all still facing out. We also vaguely discussed my extended warrantee that will still be good until October of 2025, and Mark informed me it depends on which extended warrantee I purchased, but it may or may not be good at other GM dealerships. Another thing for me to wonder about in the trust area. So I am left waiting for a $30 check, and a set of tires that still need to be rotated, and the need to find a new place to take my vehicle for the rotation and any future services. It really is a shame that all of this happened (I wonder if it happened before and I just trusted them and never really checked for six plus years). I honestly bragged all the time out at the base on how well I was treated, and that I get a free loaner every time I take my truck in for service. But now I will have a different story to tell of how the Steve Schmitt dealership should not be trusted. This is so frustrating. read more

Do not do business with Steve Schmitt GMC. Gm state that it and their Dealers are committed to quality products and customer satisfaction. What a lie. Chinese & Japanese made junk parts sold at a fantastic markup. My complaint air bag replacement: GM dealers will replace any worn, damaged connections at no charge!! NOT AT STEVE SCHMITT. They charge $165.00 per man hour to do a diagnosis. They blame the high cost of their UNION LABOR. Mechanics are paid about $20.00 per hour and made to furnish their own tools. Schmitt's chief of mechanic's is so dumb he cannot tell me what is wrong with my dash lighting up and showing " check air bag soon". They will try pouring a bucket full of shit over your head and you the customer is supposed to like it!! Then tell you they would like your continued business. Really thought I found a good car dealership that does what they say they will do... wrong. Bought a car back in September. Mentioned the day we were buying it about something not working, mentioned it again when i took it back two weeks later, Scott said he would ask about it and get back to me never did. Finally months later I try to address it again. HUGE waste of time. I assumed since we knew what was broken i was taking it in to get fixed, instead they wasted my day and driving 30 mins back and forth for them to just tell me what we already knew. Kyle was extremely unfriendly. I felt as if i was an inconvenience for wanting something on my car fixed that should have been fixed before they sold the car. When you spend over 30000 on a vehicle everything should work. Kyle told me he would turn in a claim to see if my warranty would cover my broken part.. that was March 18.. never heard anything back. Going to a lot of dealerships that just wouldn't give me the time of day after seeing my trade in value and credit score I was demoralized and just gave up on trying to get a new vehicle. I was then told to go see the guys over at Steve Schmitt in Highland, Il. and they could help. Being very optimistic after seeing everyone, I went. I must say, from the first meeting and handshake to the last, they were very professional and very personable. No rushing or not listening to what my needs were. I will say that Vince Marty in finance worked hard for me to get into a new car and that Mike McBride was the best salesman I've met. They both treated my like a person and not just a number. Recently, vehicle #2 was hit by a deer. I thought it would be recorded the other way around, but insurance covered it as a comprehensive claim, so I guess the deer hit the car. At a relatively low rate of speed, it was more like a deer bump, but still a $3000+ bump. My insurer has a "select service" one-estimate-only program, so that's why I ended up in the body shop of the dealer from which I bought it. Communication is such a tricky thing, sometimes. At original evaluation and, later, at vehicle drop off, I asked whether a one-week duration in the shop was a reasonable expectation. Each time, I was told that was about right. Four days job time on the paperwork eventually was split across two weeks (or nearly ten work days). I left a message a couple times to check on progress, after approx. one week, and again, days later. Each time, the message of the return call was that the car would be ready when it was ready. There was nothing impolite about the voice on the other end of the phone. But I had the sense that the only anticipated trigger for a phone call might be job completion, whether the work took two more days or twenty. If I might suggest one improvement, then it would be to assign an administrative assistant the task of making a progress report on some sort of regular schedule, so that the customer isn't left guessing about what's happening. In my case, a call after four days, explaining that the work was more complicated, and that I could expect another call in x-number of days, would have helped me better plan rental car needs and alternative work transportation. I can imagine a lot of reasons why such phone calls (or e-mails) may not be easy to do: staff turnover, employees already busy with too many tasks, nasty responses from disappointed customers, etc. But the thing I love about my regular mechanic is just that kind of communication: good estimates on pickup date/time, and, if not possible, a phone call with an explanation and revised time estimate. Of course, the most important thing is the quality of the body work, which looks good. read more

I was very pleased with the body work performed on my vehicle at Steve Schmitt. Their friendly, helpful staff assisted me with identifying damaged areas and planning the repairs in a way to limit the time I went without my van. The finished product looked great (way better than expected) and the detailed cleaning they did prior to returning the vehicle was fantastic! There was a hiccup with communicating the timing of the work completion on my vehicle, but I felt the staff handled the problem and made it right for me in the end. Thank you! read more

Can we give negative stars here?? Horrible after sales service!! Even with their "warranty" on used vehicles. I had so many problems with the car I purchased from them that it was in the shop 4 times in the first month I had it!! Yes they did provide a vehicle for me to drive but each one was dirty and most smelled like ash trays!! OK for the car trouble - it wouldn't start!! Kind of important for a vehicle. Problems started 4 or 5 days after purchase. They seemed interested in helping me the first time I took it in, but that quickly changed. They couldn't find a problem so they started randomly replacing parts hoping to rectify the problem. I wouldn't even have the car back 4 or 5 hours and have trouble again. They even told me that I was the problem, that I didn't know how to start a car and not to call them back unless the car stranded me somewhere!! Seriously?? Well guess what?? About a week later, broke down while driving it!! Stranded in a parking lot!! Glad I wasn't on my way to work at the time. Also glad I had a man in the car with me so he could call and talk with the dealership because obviously women are too stupid to know when there's a problem with a vehicle. It only took them 4 months to fix the problem with the car. They were more than happy to take the car back for a trade and an additional $10,000, I think not!! Made multiple calls to talk to the owner, none of which were returned. My original salesman Jaime wouldn't even help me get my car fixed, he's the one who told me I didn't know how to start a car.... and the general manager, who's name I can't remember was so incredibly rude!! I haven't bought from them yet and not sure if I will. Have been researching and test driving a few used cars over the last month to find the suitable second vehicle I need. Called the dealership after finding a possible vehicle hat would work and told the sales lady I could get there around 5:30. It was 5:35 when I get there and she had left for the day. The salesman who would talk to me said in a very rude tone that they don't like customers who come in after 5:30 because they close at 6. I had just driven through end of day traffic for 35 minutes to get there and that's how I was greeted. Then we go look at the car and it has a flat tire. So the saleslady had obviously made zero attempt to even have the car ready to show. The car might be the best used car I will look at, and its within my price point, the car fax was the best report I have seen to date, but after that b.s. I'm not sure I'll go back for the test drive. If they treat me like that before we even test drive or negotiate, I can only imagine what the rest of an ownership experience might be... There are 50 million cars in America, someone will have the right one and act like they are glad to see my money. read more

I called Steve Schmitt Chevrolet dealership and asked for a quote for an oil change and tire rotation which they told me.. $94.95. So I said great, let's schedule it! Fast forward I schedule it and drop it off and without calling me or anything they do the service and call me afterwards asking for my debit card number saying the price was $185! I THINK NOT! This is not okay! I just had the same service done recently and the price was 94.95 and now it's suddenly $185, listen here buddy... inflation does not double the price of an oil change and heres how I look at it... I should have been given a call about a price change because guess what... you spent my money which I could potentially not have had because you told me it was $94.95. You abused the fact that I was a female dropping off a vehicle which is absolutely insane! I was towed here against my will. Car broke down and this was thw nearest dealer. I waited 5 days for my car to be repaired. They never could give me an idea as to when it would even be looked at. When I was called out of the blue that the car was repaired I went to the service department. The associate had to finsh up a personal call first. They knowing sold us a truck with a rear blown seal. Went through two qts of oil. Gave us issues about repairs said we purchased it as is. Returned truck 3 days ago and they said they can't issue me a return check until Monday even with proof they requested showing their check I wrote them cleared. I purchased a vehicle site unseen because I live more than a 10 hours drive one way. I trusted that the vehicle was everything as advertised and plus it was a Certified Pre-owned Vehicle. So with all of that I made the deal over the phone and wired the money in belief that there shouldnt be anything wrong with the vehicle. My wife had shopped around & knew that she "had" to have a brand new, 2009 Pontiac G8. Beautiful car. We went to Steve Schmitt's, as we had shopped at their Greenville, IL location for several vehicles before they closed that store. We dealt with the salesman, B.J., & in hindsight, should have left. We felt very rushed, but, she wanted the car. Bottom line. We were told by the manager that our interest rate would be "...%", but when we went to sign the actual bank papers, it was 3% more. We asked immediately what was going on, & they said there was an error. We left. The manager called as we were leaving town & agreed to "meet us in the middle". For some reason, we agreed. We went back & signed the papers & that is the biggest mistake we made. The car naturally had the warranty. Within a month, we had it in for a problem with the tire sensors. They fixed that without a problem. Then we found out that Pontiac was dead. A couple months passed, & we had the same problem again. My wife was working in Highland at the time, & they came over to pick the car up for her as they had done the first time. They assured her they would have it back for her by the end of the day. When she was leaving work, there was still no car. When she called, she was told that they hadn't even started on it, & that "there was no way" that someone would have promised it the same day. After going back & forth with the lady, they brought the car back, still with the warning light on. We were irate. We called & spoke with the manager, & then called & spoke with Steve Schmitt himself. He informed us that he believed the lady in the service department & that we were being "difficult" to work with. We explained how this had been done this same exact way the first time & everything went just as promised, so how were we being difficult this time? He then tells us that we should take our business elsewhere. Seriously. Within the next week, we also received a letter informing us of that. This whole drama unfolded because of a survey that we had filled out previously, indicating how once the deal was finalized & we needed some help with the XM radio (which, incidentally, has never worked correctly) & the initial sensor problem, we could never seem to speak with our salesman. Then we received another survey right after this conversation with Schmitt, & we were very truthful. When a dealer, ESPECIALLY IN THIS ECONOMY, tells you that they do not want you business, something is WRONG. GM has said it would look into it, but of course, nothing ever happened. We had to go to another dealer to have the sensor fixed, then fixed a 3rd time, but that dealer doesn't consider us hard to deal with. I wonder why that is? The point of this review is not to slander anyone, it is merely a precautionary warning to potential buyers to watch yourselves & the promises that are sometimes made. read more
