He uses the most advanced technological equipment I have witnessed at the dental practices I've been to in the last 10 years. Old crown removal, repair of underlying tooth, measurement of area, creation of new tooth and the permanent placement all happened in one hour. I have to add that the procedure he used to numb the area was pleasant to say the least. Patience and precision on his part took most of the pain and anxiety away. My first appointment included a checkup and cleaning. Dental hygienist Sharon gave my teeth the most thorough cleaning I've experienced in a long time. I do regret that I did not take better care of my teeth because I was too in a rush or too lazy to take time using dental floss or water pick. As time went on I lost many of my original teeth due to advanced gum disease, tooth decay, gum recession or cracked molar because of a root canal that had been done many years ago. At age 79 I had only 17 of my original teeth. My dentist said I had to have major restoration but he couldn't help me and did not recommend any dentist. I wanted to know if dental implants would help so I went on YouTube and came across this program called Innovations in Health. It was where Dr. Steven Uchida of Smiles Forever was being interviewed and promoting mini implants although he can do regular implants. I was very impressed with his interview. He came across as friendly, knowledgeable, likeable and trustworthy. I learned that if you are elderly and have jaw bones that had shrunk mini implants would be an excellent alternative to regular size implants because of its smaller diameter size. At the end of his interview Dr. Uchida stated doing mini implants vs. regular implants will be less invasive, less healing time, less pain, less visits and most important, less expensive. Don't be afraid of doing mini implants because of your age. I was 80 years old when I did a full mouth restoration on my upper and lower jaws and ended with two new sets of dentures. This is the closest to what my original teeth were. I consider this mini implant restoration as the best of the best. Today I am not embarrassed to smile and not afraid to converse in groups. On your first visit to Smiles Forever, Mrs. Uchida or her staff will greet you with a friendly smile, make you feel comfortable and treat you with respect like royalty. Truly at my age one of my few enjoyments in life is to able to eat my favorite foods, both at home and at restaurants. I am so grateful that I found Dr. Uchida because he enabled me to do this. But I was immediately at ease with the friendliness and professionalism of the staff and noticed the 'high tech' XRAY process and then some thereafter! As Dr. Hilari worked on my teeth, I was even more at ease as she skillfully proceeded with the processes I came in for. Above this, she first pointed out an area at the base of a tooth where a tiny filling was missing and needed to be replaced. When looking at it with the mirror in hand, that is exactly where I previously questioned about it and let's just leave it at obviously nothing was done. I knew at this point in time she is an awesome dentist! And, imagine how great I felt having something fixed now that I knew previously was an issue for me! There's more! She then pointed out on a front tooth she will fill another tiny area. WHAT? Another situation I was aware of and an issue for me but again, let's just leave it at that. I then told her I could previously feel it with my tongue. There's so much we can feel and detect on our teeth with our tongues; I can. We then had a chat and a good laugh on how common it is for patients to literally point with their tongue at a spot they feel on a tooth and say it's right here! So true! I've done it before. The method of both these 'fixes' was skillful applied coupled with technology of equipment and process which was quite a pleasant experience. We took the flight anyway and upon landing I randomly called a dentist, who himself recommended Dr. Kashiwada. He took us in immediately though he was otherwise booked. His care, compassion, obvious skill, and amazing follow-up, was unique in all my nearly seven decades. He is a clinician. He is an expert, on licensing boards, and it is a delight to be in his caring company. He allows you to enjoy a dental visit! We had never met him but immediately felt as though he had been our dentist for decades. He called us several times to be sure we could enjoy our time in Hawaii without concern for the tooth that he skillfully repaired and was our Guardian Angel.
