He has been my dentist for the past two decades. My mother selected him when I was young, so I never truly thought about the quality of service I recieved (it always seemed great). It was confirmed a couple years ago... A friend of mine was a dentist in New York, and was moving back to California, and needed to get her California license. I had a cavity appropriate for her to fill for her license examination. Once she filled the cavity, I had to go to another area to be graded. As I walked into the room, I sat where I was assigned, and who did I see across the grading area, but Dr Steven Fong! I asked the person grading my filling "is that Dr Steven Fong?", and he replied "Yes. How could you recognize him with his mask on?". I replied "Well, thats the way I always see him." Dr. Fong and his daughter, Dr. Jennifer Fong, are great! They do good work, are pleasant and knowledgable, and take the time to explain things to you and address your concerns. Jan, Janet, and Nancy are also kind, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I've requested appointments first thing in the morning or sometimes after work, and they've always been able to fit me in. I've been to quite a few dentists over the years due to changing jobs / changing insurance / changing locales, and Dr. Fong is among the best. A few of my co-workers have been patients of Dr. Steven Fong for years, even decades. It's cool that they keep up with technology too. Appointment reminders can be done via e-mail or by phone. X-rays and files are computerized. They'll take the time to show you on video what's going on in your mouth. The newly remodeled office is also a nice extra. Highly recommended! read more

I saw all the good reviews for Dr. Fong so I decided switch my service to him. But I realized it wasn't as good as it really saids from fellow yelpers. I think if you are with Dr Fong since you are kid, then you might have a different experience. 1) clean and professional office with friendly stuffs. 2) Very responsive via phone or email 3) Not very good at telling people ahead of time what needs to be done. 4) After my 1st cleaning visit,, I was told to go home and someone will contact me on what to do at next appointment. 5) all I got was an email helping to set up the next appointment for a cavity work and extraction. 6) I email and ask details on which teeth and why these works needs to be done and all they said is that the Dr will explain when you get here. I thought as a patient I should be inform ahead of time what will be done at the appointment and what type of cost I am expecting. I never went back and I am still searching for a good dentist around the area. read more

I have been going to Dr. Fong since I was little. My mom went to him when she was pregnant with my brother, and that was over 35 years ago. My dad passed away 5 years ago, but he had many a cavity and root canal performed by Dr. Fong (the death and root canals are NOT related, btw!!! lol...) My entire family has gone to Dr. Fong!!! Dr. Fong is extremely high tech with all of his lil gadgets and is very knowledgeable in what he does. I think they must keep random factoid notes on all their patients, because they remember very obscure facts about me that I mention in passing...like how I was considering going to Humboldt State...or I was a Business Major...etc. But that kinda makes me feel special! I must say that my review is a little biased. I have never once had a cavity (knock on wood!) so I do not know what its like to experience extreme mouth pain, except for teeth extractions when I was little, and that's nothing heavy drugs can't fix. This is a family run business and is very professional. Plus I get fancy little samples during my two yearly teeth cleanings. Awesome, wonderful, great, by far the best dentist I have ever had. I love how Dr Fong explains the process of everything that he is doing, I find it educational, exciting, and enlightning! If you are looking for a dentist that not just only cares about your business, but, cares about you in general, this is the place. We're back to the Bay area and I prefer driving for 30 minutes to Fremont to Dr. Fong rather then having another dentist. Failed miserably trying to get somebody else as good and having as much common sense, but closer to home. En example of his work. I had X-rays from another dentist with 2 cavities marked. Dr. Fong had doubts about one, so he retook a shot of this area (only this area). It wasn't a cavity. It was an artifact, as the old X-rays were taken before cleaning so a tartar buildup made it look like a cavity. I didn't tell him upfront that the X-rays were done before cleaning but he knew somehow. The other dentist wanted to fix something that wasn't there. read more

Whilst playing basketball one nite several years ago, I took an elbow to my jaw which resulted in a broken tooth. My brother recommended I contact one his friends to help me out, since I was looking for some emergency work. Dr. Fong just happens to be a few blocks from my place, so it was really convenient to see him. They were able to take me in 1st thing the next morning. By noon, I had a temporary crown. Two weeks later, I had a permanent crown set. Jump ahead to today...I bit into a crunchy flauta and felt something weird. By the sound of it, I knew it had something to do with my crown. Sure enough, a piece of it had sheared off. I gave Dr. Fong's office a call and they had me stop by to take a look at the damage. Scheduled me in for the next morning to get me all taken care of. They're a great bunch there. I really appreciate them making time for me. read more

Dr. Fong has been my dentist ever since I was a kid, and I missed him when I moved to Vegas. The staff there is always friendly and accommodating. Just looking at my old review and thought that there was something useful that I should add. I needed a new crown a year or two ago and he has a nice 3D milling machine that allows him to create a new crown on the spot. No more having to go in, get a mold taken and getting a temporary put on and then going back two or three weeks later to have the permanent crown put in. He has a selection of ceramic blanks to match your tooth color. He can make a mold of your tooth, scan it and then mill the blank and affix it in place in one appointment. Dr. Fong has always been good about using digital technology to provide better service to his patients. read more

My wife and I had been his patients for several years. My teeth in general is a bit weak. Hence, I have been using them carefully, e.g., not eating/biting strong stuff. Despite this, recently, my porcelain crown was cracked just after 6 years. The tooth was the second tooth from bottom right. Dr Fong strongly recommended porcelain crown back in Dec 2010. I had to pay extra as insurance would not cover as much for porcelain comparing with silver/metal crown . Contacting his office did not get any help other than full replacement at my own cost. In retrospect, most inner tooth at the bottom should use metal for strength as people won't see it in general. I now have doubt about Dr Fong's recommendation and the porcelain crown quality. read more

When I moved, with my family from New York to the Bay Area (Fremont), I heard good things about Dr. Fong and his office. So, 4 and a half years ago, we chose him as our dentist. We are very happy him and his office staff. Dr. Fong is very Knowledgeable and experienced (He has been practising for decades right here in Fremont). He has a very pleasant attitude and listens and takes the time to explain the details of the treatment. Once you are his patient, he knows you personally and when I visit him, he surprises me with how well he knows the details that took place years ago. He is humble, honest and ethical. His judgement is right ON. When I met him, I had been plagued with cavity and gum problems. But Dr. Fong, over these years, systematically, worked on all these and now, I have very good dental hygiene. I am never under pressure and really happy to meet him during my appointments. read more

My experience with Dr. Fong was rather poor. I had a problem tooth, a dead tooth, he sent me to have root canal, then he wanted me to come back to try to save a tooth that was death and 75% gone, he told me that there was chances that I may loose it after the treatment, big money attempt to "save it" for an unreasonable maybe, even the endodontist that Fong refer me to told me that he didn't see any point in doing a root canal, but he did the root canal anyway (probably moved by money: expensive, money takes precedent). I found the staff arrogant, patronizing and bossy, the attitude of "here we are the wonderful and you are not as smart" controlling the patients in a subtle way, I was even scolded on the phone. Thank God I canceled the appointment to Fong's office and the tooth in question fell off shortly after. My experience as a whole was irritating and mentally distressing. My impression is that the business take priority over and above the patient dental health. read more

Dr Fong is a dentist very gentle that he's the only one that frees me from any worry about pain & discomfort during and after any procedure. I live 30 miles away and once tried to find another dentist closer-by but eventually ended up returning back to Dr Fong, since there wasn't any other comparatively good, professional & patient-focused enough. He's been taking great care of my dental needs for 22 yrs now, and tens of my other friends'. Really no kidding!
