I believe if your going to work with the public including doctors than you should be friendly, caring and treat people nice, after going to Dr Shaafs eye center for a while now, I have only found 1 girl who fits that bill and it was this past week on June 18th her name is Natchally, what a sweetheart she was so charming and caring, and showed concerned about my eyes she explained the 2 test she was going to give me, She was very through and put me at ease. There should be more ladies like her working out there, like they really take pride in their work and not so unhappy with their job by just showing up for a paycheck. Dr Shaaf is a good eye Dr. Thats why I go there. But the majority of his staff lack friendliness and care about his patients. I'm giving 5 stars because of Natchally.

The surgsery scheduler will not even answer my wife's phone calls. Dr. Shaaf performed cataract surgery on me, the husband, and I recommended him to my wife. His ability is not in qustion but his support staff, specifically his surgical scheduler, needs to be replaced or helped.

I was always put on hold and sometimes my call was retrieved, sometimes not. * The wait-time to see the doctor was ridiculous~one time I waited for 93 minutes; when I complained, Dr G blamed it on an error~the real reason was overbooking. * I was scheduled for cataract surgery~the night before the surgery, the office manager called me-at PM-telling me I had to pay an additional $175 because I had Lasix surgery 30 years prior! * My vision requires that Prisms be included to prevent a cross-eyed condition; Dr. G mis-diagnosed the prisms, resulting in a second set of glasses. She's a healthy 85 years old lady but her eyes were in bad shape due to cataracts. One of her eyes had a stigmatism that she had dealt her entire life. A special lens was inserted during surgery, which corrected the life long issue. Just so you know, Medicare does not cover the cost of special lenses, so there's an additional out of pocket expense. But for my mom was worth it was absolutely wort it! For the first time in her life she can clearly see the beautiful mountains and palm trees around us. Many thanks to Dr. Le!

Dr. Chan consistently runs 1.5 to 2 hours behind schedule....and I am NOT exagerating. The first visit, the doctor did not see my husband until 2 hours after his appointment time. The second visit...he was only running behind by 1.5 hours. In our last visit....he was running a full 2 hours behind schedule. The appointment was at 10:00 and the Dr. didn't see my husband until just after 12:00 p.m. No once did he acknowledge or apologize for the delay. When I asked the front desk each time if he was running behind....I was told that he always runs behind schedule. That the problem isn't the doctor's schedule...but a lack of adequate screening rooms. I'm a recruiter. If I have to schedule 10 interviews...and all interview participants are available...but I only have 5 rooms...I only schedule 5 interviews. This is not difficult, people. The front desk told me that Dr. Chan "runs his office this way"...and they were totally dismissive about it. I requested the next appoinment be scheduled early morning. They confirmed the doctor starts at 8:00...but refused to book me before 10:00 for the next appointment. The only reason I've not told them to take a flying leap is that my husband is mid-way through a specific treatment. So, we will have to deal with this a little longer. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE SITTING IN A WAITING ROOM FOR AT LEAST 1.5-2 HOURS. THIS IS THE WAY DR. CHAN RUNS HIS BUSINESS ACCORDING TO HIS STAFF. Knowing it was an emergency, I drove mid-day to their PS office to find it locked up and dark and then drove to Palm Desert. I described all my symptoms which isn't rocket science when you've gone through it before, and they nicely told me they would not see me without a referral from another ophthalmologist. Their "policy" damned an emergency. Not having been to one in this city, they gave me a couple names including one in their neighborhood. I did go to that one, Dr. Le and they begrudgingly took me in and their Dr (with personality of a door knob) confirmed in five minutes that I had a detachment. Since it was before 3:00 in the afternoon I hoped they could refer me back to the retina consultants office a block and half away. NO. They were too busy that day for any emergencies and had no appointments the next day, and the next available appointment was more than a week away. The only other retina specialist supposedly in the area was not open. The ONLY option they gave was to drive an hour away to Loma Linda University Medical Center ER where they had a specialist on call. NOT true. Only an ophthalmologist resident on call. Thank God that after literally all night in their ER I was discharged and the resident set me up to see their retina team first thing in the morning and I was in for surgery by 9:30 am. Screw Desert Retina Consultants and their care less attitude toward emergencies. Don't expect me to ever call on them again. I know enough about detachments to know that they are emergent situations and that some times they are now or never if not treated in time. I guess I'm also disgusted that there aren't enough specialists in the Coachella Valley if they are telling me there are only two offices in the entire valley. Shame on them for forcing me to go waste Medicare and my money to go have one of their colleagues see me first to say what I already knew.

I noticed one reviewer state he also practices internal medicine, as well. There are better choices in ophthalmology from a medical doctor.

I had some problems with dry eyes 1 week after the procedure and called Dr Kao, he not only gave me advices what to do, he even called in a few eye drops into the pharmacy for me. I can not thank him enough for his wonderful service. If you are looking for a good eye doctor , look no further than Dr Kao. I am bring in back all of my friends and family. Thank you !!!!
