I have to add to my review with this very personal detail- I went off my meds for my bipolar disorder because of, well, stupidity. I hadn't bothered finding a new psychiatrist or therapist in the City, arrogantly thought that I could just manage without. Like finding good doctors, a good therapist and psychiatrist that you mesh with are equally hard to discover. I ended up in a very very bad state where I was suicidal and made an emergency appointment to see Dr. Oscherwitz. I was a mess. I started crying in the waiting room, was taken into the back to wait there and taken care of by the nurse and then Dr. Oscherwitz came in. I explained to him what I had done and what sort of state I was in. He started calling psychiatrists he knew and got me an appointment for the very next day, which was a Friday. He then waited for me to call my sister and make sure I was watched/taken care of until I made into the doctors office. It's hard to make any sort of rational decision in that state of mind and I deeply appreciate and am indebted to him helping me when I was in such a bad way. I've had crappy doctors. I've had distant ones who don't bother to know you.. though he may seem brisk and detached, he does care about his patients.. he's always been a kind man with me, even before this episode, and now I'm having a hell of time finding a decent replacement since I moved away.

If you're someone who needs good, prompt call backs and follow-ups or high tech ways of communication, go somewhere else where there's more easy access (that's why he's old school - you can't email, facebook, IM, etc.). Many times, I have to call and leave several messages to finally get through to him and often times, he never got the message. Other that that, no complaints to Dr. Oscherwitz.

It started when several prescriptions that were important, were NOT filled, and the front desk refused to take accountability, forcing me to book a new appointment and miss some extremely important medications. When I came in, Dr. Rosenthal profusely apologized for the incompetence of his front staff, and told me that he knows they can be "disorderly" and told me to call his personal cell phone in the future. On the way out, I asked to pay, and I was told that I would be billed "later." Some time later, I received a "final notice" for a bill for $30. When I called in to ask what the hell was going on, the front office told me that they had made the decision to "terminate me as a client" for non-payment. She was also extraordinarily rude and combative. I view this as not only unethical, but illegal. I will be filing a formal complaint to the Medical Board of California.

Dr. Rosenthal sets the standard for a medical professional. He not only knows his medicine, but has a bedside manner unmatched by any we've come across. He cared for my mom for many years before her passing. Everytime she was in the hospital, he ALWAYS showed up to check up on her. When she had difficulty traveling to the office, he made made house calls. He is very calming and a great listener. I wish other doctors and hospitals tried to be just a little bit like him. I've been a patient for many years. Unfortunately for me I'm back at Kaiser, which is better insurance but less good care. Someday I'll be back. In the meantime you should take my place. Why? You ask. Because Maura provides excellent care. She and the staff are smart and they aren't your typical "get through the day" employees. They all seem to enjoy their day and each other. Plus, what really makes them exceptional is their sense of humor. This is a nifty treat for those of us who savor this human behavior. It's hard to get it right. Too much and it is contrived and distracting. Too little and it's, well, humourless. Dr Moser's office gets it right.

He went through the motions and then proceeded to give me a long lecture about some unsolicited life advice.
