I bring my boys here for their sports physicals and I think Dr. Konstantin is great. On a side note I came to this Yelp page to see what his rating was and human curiosity compelled me to read the bad reviews. I am happy to see that Dr. Konstantin is refusing to give random people narcotics. I worked in a 1000 Rx a day pharmacy and these people are doctor shoppers whose regular doctors won't give them narcotics so they seek out other doctors and then get disappointed and aggravated when they don't get their drugs. This makes me want to give Dr. K more stars! You don't go to a doctor to get drugs. You go to a doctor to get treated to feel better. Even after two years, I still think this place is great and I would hands down recommend this place to anyone living in the east bay. I have been seeing Dr Konstantin for two years. I have an excellent PPO but keep returning simply because he's a good doctor: 1. He spent several years as a researcher before taking over his dad's practice -- and you can feel it in the way he approaches problems. He knows his stuff and the theory behind it. 2. As a result, he can afford to be practical , non-dogmatic and very human. 3. I miss being told what to do by my doctor -- I don't want to be given a range of choices or hear that protocols require such treatment. And I certainly don't want to deal with the Nurse Practitioner if I pay the doctor's fees. I also want to face a figure of authority who knows better and be told what to do. If I'm being honest, I'm not sure why this place has so many 5 star reviews. Only out of concern for public health, I am going to share my experience. I came here simply for a 2-step TB test that I have to get for a medical program. You can walk-in, no appt needed. It costs $30.00 initially, plus $10.00 for the second part. This part is all convenient and great. Let me start by saying that I work within the medical field, and therefore am aware of certain standards that need to be held in an office. Whoever did my first test (not sure if she is a nurse?), did not follow the correct protocol one should use in between patients. She called me into the room that was supposedly ready for me, but another patient was walking out of the same room simultaneously as I was walking in. Which means the room was not wiped down and not technically ready for me. As I was sitting in that room, she then, with bare hands and no gloves, ripped off the old paper on the medical chair that had been used with the last patient. Then she grabbed my materials to do my test next without washing her hands. And proceeded to do my test with her dirty hands and no gloves. She told me as long as I didn't see a bump for myself, I need not come in in two days to have them confirm a negative test. A week later, I came in for my second test. I mentioned to the woman who was doing my test this time, how the last woman hadn't washed her hands or used gloves after touching/cleaning up after the last patient. She nicely washed her hands, and then told me that she could wear gloves, but that the only size in the office was an extra large. This is because the actual doctor is the only one who wears gloves and he doesn't require the nurses (if they are even nurses), to wear them. So they only order any in his size. Aside from protocol issues, the actual office itself looks like a converted house, and the inside looks like an old run down veterinary office. I personally didn't feel like it was a clean environment that is safely practicing. This is why I find it hard to believe that basically every other review is 5 stars across the board. This is the first doctor, specifically a general family practitioner, that our family has found since moving to the West Coast 4 years ago that Actually listens to and touches his patients and gets personally involved and cares... Dr. K is a solid guy, what can you say? You're in and out within an hour, meanwhile getting to chat with a man who feels like a family friend! He's jovial, engaging, and knows a heapin bundle about the digestive track, body breakdown and a bunch of other words I didn't quite know but MAN was it interesting! I have full insurance coverage but was intrigued by the great Yelp reviews. I'm so glad I took my 4 year old daughter there! We walked in without appointment on Friday morning. Dr saw us quickly after filling out a simple form (took 2 mm vs the usual 20 anywhere else). He diagnosed us in 20 mm while being quiet but pleasant and giving us many medicine insight including out of pocket cost! How often does the doctor care about how much the medicine he prescribes is going to cost YOU?! Then we had to pay of course, and I was a little worried about ha ding out the $300 cash I brought. Doctor asked for a tiny fraction of that making me feel I was getting an absolute deal. Thank you so much Doctor for serving our community so well and faithfully, you simply took the financial worries out of my family getting sick. read more

Though walk-ins are common and available, I set an appointment and was seen as scheduled. Went in for a TB and Physical to fulfill a job requirement and BOY was it quick and easy. TB test ONLY: $20 Physical ONLY: $30 BOTH TB and Physical: $40. He honors appointments first but drop-ins are always welcome. I dropped-in around 10:30am and found that there were 3 patients ahead of me. I ended up getting out of the clinic within 30 mins which is crazy fast. When I got my physical done, it took like 5 minutes and he was thorough and friendly. He did not make it seem like he was superior or anything and the conversation was open and relaxed. I found out he went to UC DAVIS too (in the 70s...lol)! My wife and I moved down to Oakland a year ago. Neither of us has done the legwork to find a primary care physician that is in network with our insurance. I suddenly realized that my prescription for asthma medication had run out. I could have gone to an urgent care place, but probably would have walked away with a $400 bill that our insurance would have made us pay $200. It would have come out of our HRA/PSA, but I just didn't think that was a good use of money for such a simple request. I needed to get a TB shot for my new job, so I looked on Yelp and found this place. You can easily miss it driving by, it looks like a house, but there's a sign that indicates it's a clinic. I went around 10:30am. There were few people in the waiting room, but this nice nurse came in and said I was next the minute I sat down. I felt like she could read my mind it something. She had guessed I needed a TB shot lol. So she sat me down in this sterile room and had me filling out paperwork. When I was done, she quickly prepped my arm and grabbed the syringe. I have a phobia of needles and shots so in my mind I was preparing for the intense pain and quietly said a prayer as my braced myself. But you know what? I didn't feel a damn thing! I started laughing and the lady looked at me with interest as I told her my fear about needles and how I expected it to hurt. She just laughed and I kept thanking her for making my experience quick and painless. Make sure to have cash! It only cost me $20 which made me smile more. Dr. Konstantin is wonderful! Came here for a nasty bladder infection and left with a prescription to get rid of it. He is super personable and the visit was only $40! Which btw is less than the $60 copay I had for Kaiser back when I had insurance. The visit wasn't rushed and he made sure I was properly taken care of. I came here because I don't have the greatest insurance coverage. I had baker's cyst which hurt a lot to the point where I could not walk. Other doctors were asking for $200 just for consultation and then $175 for the cortisone shot. Dr Konstantin gave me the shot for $10 and his fee was only $20. He is so sweet and absolutely amazing. Incredibly cheap! $30 for a regular office visit. $40 for a TB and physical. I'm a full-time student on a tight budget, so he's currently my main source of health care. I've gotten my boyfriend to start seeing him too, which is great because he has always been reluctant to see a doctor due to lack of funds. Now he can get the medical attention he needs. Dr. Konstantin also does walk ins, and the wait usually isn't too bad. The longest I've been in the waiting room is 15 minutes. Other times it can be as a short as half a minute before he opens the door. No check in necessary. As for how the actual check ups go, my only complaint is that he does seem to be in a hurry a lot of the time. I needed a TB test and called in beforehand to confirm whether they'd be able to do it (considering that Monday is labor day and you need the reading 48-72 hours after). Without even suggesting it, Dr. Konstantin offered to come in early to do the reading for me on an off day. It was so helpful because I'd like to get my hiring paperwork done as soon as possible. I appreciate it very much. The process for just a TB test was very quick! I left about 15 minutes after arriving. Walk-in, first-come first-served system.
