During this call, an office staff member (Julie, I believe, but not sure) exhibited an astonishing level of rudeness and disrespect towards the insurance representative, who was simply trying to confirm my coverage. I've never encountered such arrogance from a healthcare provider's office staff, especially when dealing with a potential new patient. While I've since learned my insurance is accepted, the experience was so off-putting that I will not be seeking care there. It's a shame that Dr. Miller, who I'm sure is an excellent doctor, has staff members who create such a poor first impression.

My issue is with the optician who assisted me with my glasses. After I picked out my new frames, I mentioned that my old ones kept falling down my nose, and she offered to adjust them. When she handed them back, I was having trouble seeing out of them, but I thought the lenses were smudged, and since it was getting late, and my mother was driving, I figured I'd clean them when I got home. When I arrived at my house, I got a lens wipe and attempted to clean them, but I still couldn't see, so I held my glasses up to the light and I saw that the tops of the lenses looked like they'd been fractured, and there were wavy lines on the center section of the lenses. I also noticed some small gouges on the top left side of the frame. The office was already closed, so I couldn't go back that day, or leave a message, so I thought I would go the next morning. I survived a massive brain tumor, and one of the side effects is that I'm very prone to migraines. The visual disturbance caused by my damaged lenses caused a severe migraine the next morning, so my mother offered to take my glasses in for me. When she took them in, the optician denied that she'd done anything wrong. My mother asked her if she could explain why I could see perfectly well through the lenses before she adjusted my glasses, and couldn't after she did. She insisted that she hadn't done anything wrong. When my mother asked her if one of the same-day labs could make my lenses for me, she said that she didn't think so because of my prescription. She didn't offer the slightest bit of assistance, and when my mother told her about my migraines, and that I couldn't write, which is what I do, I couldn't read, and I wouldn't be able to drive, her response was, "I don't know what to tell you." My mother asked her to call and rush the order, which she did not do, since I picked up the glasses seven business days later. My mother left Miller Eye Care and went to one of the same-day optical stores. The associate there took one look at my glasses and said, "She didn't pop the lenses out before she adjusted the frames, and the heat caused the coating on the glasses to ripple," and when my mother asked her if they could make lenses for my old frames, she said, "They'll be ready by two." If my mother had listened to that optician at Miller Eye care, I'd have spent nine days in bed, in the dark trying to avoid debilitating migraines while waiting for my new glasses to arrive. What's worse, when I went in to pick up my new glasses and they didn't fit correctly, she said she would adjust them, but I told her I would take them elsewhere to have them adjusted because she damaged my lenses, and she said in a sing-song voice, "I did not!" I said, "You exposed the lenses to heat and it rippled the coating!" and she sang "If you say so!" As much as I trust Dr. Miller, his optician refuses to take responsibility for her actions, so I won't be back, and when I told her so, she sang "Okay!" and wished me a Merry Christmas when as I walked out the door. If the optician had admitted that she made a mistake, if she had tried at all to help, I wouldn't have been as angry, even though it cost me to have new lenses made for my old frames, but because of her ineptitude and rudeness, Dr. Miller lost TWO of his long-time patients, because my mother will not be returning, either. All actions have consequences, and I sincerely hope she learns that lesson before she causes any more damage to Dr. Miller's practice.

The woman who greeted me at the door was wonderful; genuinely the only bright spot of the entire visit. From there, everything went downhill. I was directed to a waiting room and sat there well past my appointment time. When staff finally called me in, they got my name wrong, and actually brought in another patient by mistake using my name.The PA ran me through a full eye exam, which was unnecessary, as I had already completed one just a few months prior and I was not here for glasses. That information is in my chart. A simple but telling error. Once in the exam room, I waited over an hour before the doctor arrived. I actually got up to leave. Only then did things start moving. When the doctor finally came in, he spent about 10 minutes with me. He outlined his available surgery dates the first or last week of June and then mentioned he'd be on vacation for the rest of July. He also made an offhand comment that I found unprofessional: he said it didn't matter what they charged because the visit would be free to me (the VA is paying for it). That kind of remark has no place in a patient consultation. I was then sent to the scheduler. After waiting another 25 minutes, I was taken to her desk where she never once made eye contact with me during the entire interaction. I told her the first week of June was the only time that worked for me. She told me those dates weren't available and that the earliest she could schedule me was July. That contradicted exactly what the doctor had just told me. I left without an appointment. Between the chronic wait times, repeated name errors, redundant testing, contradictory scheduling, and a complete lack of basic patient engagement, this was one of the most frustrating medical experiences I've had. I would not recommend this practice to anyone and as a veteran relying on the VA for care, that's especially disappointing.

I told him the VA authorized it, then he (as well as front desk personnel) stated that the VA usually does not pay it. I am 100% Disabled Combat Veteran and the VA provides for all my healthcare needs. Then the front desks personnel stated I could always forward their bill to the VA. NOTE: The VA does not pay for anything that was not preauthorized. As I have already had three surgeries on my left eye and received eyeglass prescriptions the past two years through VA authorization to Baptist Eye Surgeons, I asked to speak with the Doctor. After all, I had an appointment to see him. Carter replied, "No, he is busy". To top off the complete waste of time, I asked for a copy of the VA authorization. What they provided me was an authorization that expired in 2023. My Service Animal and I left before the extremely frustrating scenario got the best of me.

After the eye photos, she even had my son come over to look at the pics and ask her questions. He thought that was super cool. He (shockingly) told me as we left, "That was pretty fun, Mommy!" Whatttt?! We were seen very quickly and the appointment only lasted about 30 minutes, including picking out and purchasing new frames. Speaking of, there was a pretty big selection of youth frames, which was refreshing. They were all fairly affordable (most under $150) and ended up being fully covered by our insurance. Thrilled to have found this office, with high-tech exams, and highly empathetic staff.

The 'doctor'' will hang up on you after saying this and act surprised when you show up wanting an explanation for his ignorant behavior. The eyeglass tech or whatever they're called will manhandle your glasses while 'adjusting' making them so warped when you try to take them to another facility to have them adjusted correctly they will refuse to touch them for fear of the structural integrity of the frames after being destroyed. The tech is a liar and they will both blame your teenager for the warped frames even though she's only been able to wear them less than an hour since having them. The 'doctor' will proceed to call the cops on you when you demand to see your child's file to ensure new frames were ordered (tech agrees to order new when we had to take them back in after another place wouldn't touch them). The tech will produce a quickly made invoice to attempt to convince you he actually ordered new frames and they were somehow shipped overnight when the last frames and lenses took almost 10 business days. The office staff is rude and just as incompetent as the person calling themself a doctor. I waited around for the police to arrive but they never showed so left after about 15minutes. I never raised my voice and all could have been handled by replacing the lenses but without even touching the glasses the 'doctor' said they were fine. I'm just expected to accept his insurance fraud and borderline malpractice? Let me learn the lesson for you - Please please please find ANYWHERE else. In addition to a thorough exam they did something above and beyond all what might be expected. They took my lenses, and fit them into frames to use immediately to until my new glasses arrived. If he thinks you need Prism lenses and you don't like them, be prepared to argue with him over it for 15+ minutes to get him to begrudgingly update the prescription. They will not update or recheck the prescription if they think it is correct, no matter how much you protest. BONUS: After I called to work out an issue, I was eventually told that they cannot help me and to go somewhere else and hung up. I did not get a response back to further calls.
