I have AAA so fortunately I was able to tow the vehicle closer to my residence. I decided to have my Truck delivered to Honest-1. Rudy was my point of contact at Honest-1. If I could give 0 stars I would. There is nothing honest about this establishment. After keeping my car for more than 2 weeks to run a diagnosis, they said we needed new fuel injectors. We told them we already changed the fuel injectors so it had to be something else. They said no we guarantee it's the fuel injectors "our diagnosis is guaranteed." after another week or so we came to get the car. I doubt they did anything to it because the engine light was still on. I showed them and they said oh drive it around and it'll go away. Hm. So I did and of course it started misfiring just like it was before. The car was the same as it was before we paid them $700 and waited weeks to get it back. Again, I doubt they did anything to it but if they did, it wasn't the right diagnosis. They take it back and realize they were wrong and that the problem was in the engine. Okay time wasted, we also warned them that their diagnosis was wrong, but that's all okay because we'll get a refund right? Wrong, they returned only $400 and said that they can't refund the money for the parts. Parts that they incorrectly ordered for an incorrect diagnosis. This place is under new management and is now a great garage! My wife's 10 year old SUV needed a valve cover gasket replaced and in a hurry. I only had one day off to get it fixed and these guys did it. The mechanic stayed with the car all day, special ordered the part, and gave me a ride to and from my house. They also gave me a military discount, you don't see that a lot these days. The shop looked very clean and so did the lobby. They also had a small play area for kids and a TV. My car needed so much work that they stayed after hours to finish the job. When they picked me up they also informed me that my intake system needed cleaning and that I should get that done as soon as I can. I was waiting for an up sale but to my surprise, no up sale . Just straight up information. At the end of my service I was highly impressed. I defiantly plan on coming back next time I need any service done on my wife's car... Like the intake system. By the way, make sure to ask for Sunny, he's the owner and super nice guy. The front desk guy, Justin was also really easy going, he was the mechanic that worked on my SUV. Most mechanics won't really talk to the customer or just try to hand you off, Justin was ready to get the job done and help me out. If you need a place to work on your car and a fair price, go with these guys. The car runs great and I got a warranty with the service. I found my new shop. read more

*0 STARS*. This place is NO LONGER HONEST NOR THOROUGH. I brought the car in for an oil change & cigarette lighter fix. They changed the oil & fixed the cigarette lighter fuse. However, when I left, the switch for my heated seats was still "on" - but the light was no longer lit up & no heat. I returned 1.5 days later when I had more time to request a fix. I was told I needed a new fuse, and paid $10 for it. (How this fuse magically went missing at the same time that they replaced the fuse for the cigarette lighter is beyond me...) Again, before I left the parking lot, I noticed the light was still not on and still no heat (so nice of the tech to verify his work b4 they charged me). I returned to the shop and was told I would need to (1) come back another day when they had more time, (2) pay a diagnostic fee of $100. Instead, I took the car to the dealer and was informed that a pin immediately behind the new fuse was knocked loose. It took the dealer only 30 mins to diagnose, and I paid $134 to fix the issue. Honest 1's manager, Sudhaker, denied they caused the pin to move and suggested: (1) my heated seats were never working to begin with (2) I should have returned to the shop *when he was present* for a 4th time rather than going to the dealer. I spent 1 hour explaining this to Sudhaker, with only an offer for a free future oil change (which I normally pay $22 for) or a $10 refund for the fuse. I wasted 4 visits here, 1 visit to the dealer, and $134 for the dealer to fix the issue which Honest 1 caused and denied. read more

I went to Honest -1 for an oil change because Firestone was booked up for the day. I wish I had wait because my overall visit was poor. One good thing Honest 1 auto Care did for me -- They fit me into their schedule at the last minute. I appreciated that. However the bad things included: 1. I was told that I had a leak of steering fluid and needed urgent major repairs totaling over $1000. The receptionist immediately asked when I could schedule the next appointment. I remained calm and told her that I would take it to Firestone where I get regular repairs. She then told me that she could adjust the prices if that was the problem. I told her the price was a problem but I wanted to see if Firestone would find the same problems they did. Shortly thereafter, she told me her new mechanic made a mistake and I only need repairs totaling $200.00. At this point I did not trust the company anymore and I declined. 2. Upon receiving the bill, I inquired about my military discount. She told me that the military discount was included. However, this discount was not anywhere on the actual bill or subsequent receipt AND I had received the miltiary discount prior and knew I was missing it. She told me that things had changed and this is the new price due to the high cost of oil now. I said nothing more and paid, knowing I would not be back. 3. The receptionist told me that the oil change price included the service of tire rotation. However, after checking my car later, I knew they did not do this. You see, I had accidentally overinflated the front tires slightly unevenly. I checked the readings on the dash and saw that nothing had changed. Another lie from Honest 1. 4. Immediately after the oil change, I noticed that my engine is louder and rougher. I will not go back to Honest 1 for any services. I will also discourage my military bretheren from going as well. Once they looked at my car and found my issue (was a abs issue, could have been $$$!) he explained everything very well and answered all my questions. No kidding now my issue is why couldn't the front desk guy tell me at 12:30 or possibly when I was scheduling the service; that their shop doesn't have the necessary equipment to do a simple wheel alignment! I had my 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo in for engine work. They replaced a lifter along with valve cover gaskets and manifold gasket. When I picked up the car it seemed to run fine, but the following day on my way to work the oil pressure gauge crashed and the engine shut down. I went in the following morning to let them know the car would be back and the technician came out to show me the lifter that had been removed from my car. He turned it over and showed me where a piece of metal had come off the lifter which he said he didn't try to retrieve, so this piece of metal was left inside my engine. After more than a week they now say that my engine is bad but they refuse to acknowledge that their leaving a piece of metal inside might be the cause of the damage, but of course now they would be 'more than happy' to charge me even more to replace the engine that they ruined. EDIT: In response to the comment left on my review: there was no mention of metal shavings in the engine before the lifter work was done, only AFTER the work was done and a piece of metal was left inside the engine. read more

My husband took our car there for an oil change and tire rotation before a road trip. When the manager was going over the paperwork with my husband, she told him that they had "inflated the tires to 40 psi." Mind you, the RECOMMENDED tire pressure on our care is 32. When my husband questioned her, she said, "we inflate all tires that much in the winter." Little did she know, my husband was a manager of an automotive service establishment for a number of years and knows better than that. What they did was just plain dangerous. Buyer beware/Warning" I initially took my car into Honest 1 Auto Care, Alexandria, VA (H1) on Tuesday April 7, 2015, for a free diagnostic H1 was offering. H1 performed the "Free" diagnostic on my car and told me they could not determine the reason the engine light came on periodically and that H1 would need to perform another diagnostic on my car for a fee of $100.00 dollars. I gave in and allowed them to perform the 2nd diagnostic in which H1 determined the engine light was on because I had a bad exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and it needed to be replaced at a cost of between $250-$350 and it would take 1 day. I set up an appointment to have H1 repair the EGR on Friday April 17, 2015. I delivered the car in the A.M. and expected the car back that evening or at the very latest on Saturday April, 18, 2015. When the shop failed to call me as to the status of the car I called H1 and they told me they hadn't begun work on the car because the mechanic who was to work on the car was off until Monday April 19, 2015...Really? First of many excuses. On Monday I called H1 and they told me that my car had some bolts that were rusted and needed to be drilled/pulled and predrilled to get to the EGR at a total cost of $300-$500 and that they would do this if I agreed but H1 would have to get the parts and other things needed to perform this task and it would take a day. I approved H1 to continue the work and fix the EGR and return the car to me the next day. I called H1 on April 21, 2015, because H1 doesn't call its customers, to tell them there car repair will be delayed. H1 told me my car repair had not been and that the shop that was supposed to get the bolts and other parts delivered the wrong parts and was missing other parts so it would take another day to repair my car. I called H1 on Thursday April 23, 2015, and they told me the parts just came in and that they would have my car repaired and completed on Friday, April 24, 2015, that day came and went with no car or call from H1 as to the status of the repair. I called H1 on Saturday April 25, 2015, and I spoke with the owner who told me the car would be completed on Sunday April 26, 2015 and to pick it up before they closed at 2:00 p.m. I called H1 on Sunday and the car repair was not done. I finally received my car on Tuesday April 28, 2015, twelve (12) days later, dirty with bird feces, dust and pollen all over the car. H1 did not even bother to wash the car before giving it to me. I went to pay for this "Service" and the owner wanted to charge me $725.00 dollars for parts, labor and other fees. I objected and argued with him for over three (3) hours before he reduced the price to the original quote of $495.00. As I started the car to leave I noticed the motor sounded terrible and I called the owner out to hear and see this, the owner explained that it sounded like the spark plugs were misfiring and that some water may have gotten to the plugs, Really? And he said it sounded like the car probably needed a tune up. I took my car in for one (1) repair an EGR repair. The car was running fine before I took it to H1 as evidenced by a AAA care review I received 2 months before stating the car was fine. Now H1 is telling me I need a tune up? I recently took my car to another shop that told me the tune up would cost approximately $175-$225.00 and I had them perform the tune up. The problem still persisted. Synopsis; H1 EGR repair quoted cost $250-$350 and one day to repair, turned into a twelve (12) day job costing me $500.00 and more if I would not have complained. Vehicle dropped off in working order "NOT" needing a tune up, the car came out running poorly and dirty needing a $200.00 tune up. No attempt by manager or owner to rectify the situation with offering to reduce the price or perform the tune up the car need due to poor workmanship, failure to accept responsibility for the car leaving the shop in worse condition than it was delivered in and their indifference to the new problems with the car. H1 put the blame for some problems on the other shop H1 contracted out to get parts and other items. In my book if I hire you to perform a job I expect you to be Honest, have Integrity and an Ethical responsibility to perform the job you promised at the cost you quoted. I understand there are some variables with costs and parts that are unknown until you open up the vehicle but really? what Honest 1 Auto Care in Alexandria showed me was they don't care if you are old, a woman a minority or a college student working full-time to pay for school, H1 is an equal opportunity opportunist . Shame on you if you take your car to be serviced at H1, with all the poor reviews, you deserve what you get, yes fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I was extremely appreciative of them letting me know that I would be eligible for a free tow within 15 miles of their location. Honest-1, Omar, and the entire crew are very good at what they do. I've worked in this trade before and I find that their patience and willingness to work with my rather difficult vintage German cars is refreshing. Most mechanics would have sent me elsewhere due the trouble in obtaining quality parts, and I'm convinced that several of the jobs they've done for me resulted in them losing money rather than turning a profit. Nevertheless, they've been polite, patient, and quite trustworthy in my opinion. As somebody who has worked in repair shops before, and who understands the business fairly well, I can say that most of the negative reviews here are completely unfounded. While online reviews are fairly new, one thing that isn't new are people who have limited car knowledge getting angry when they receive bad news. Every shop has their horror stories. For some people, taking out their anger and frustration on the business is how they deal with, for example, mourning the loss of their transmission. While I worked in Alexandria, about 2.5 years, I used this shop regularly and not regretted it once. I trusted them to do jobs I would normally do myself but lacked the facilities to carry out. I can smell bed mechanics and/or BS from a mile away, so I don't know what planet some of these reviewers are on. read more

Even though you have to give one star to give a review, I'll give a star for the person running the front desk because they were nice. But my god, the work they do here is atrocious. I brought my car in for AC repair a few years back. When I went to drive home, somehow now I couldn't put my car in reverse. They had cut some line or something in fixing the AC. So they fixed that for no extra charge. Within a couple of days, my car erupts in a haze of freon. So I bring it back in and they fix that at no extra charge. Then less than a week later, I'm in a drive through and, all of a sudden, my car explodes in two bursts of freon again. You should have seen the look on the face of the guy behind me. Pinned in in the drive through line behind a car that's exploding! It was kind of funny, but only because I already knew it wasn't dangerous. Anyway, that was it for me. Honest 1 said they'd fix it for free, but my trust was gone. I brought it to another mechanic and paid the additional money to have it fixed correctly by them. And when I questioned that new mechanic afterward, they said the problem was a certain part. So, since I paid Honest 1 for an entirely new AC kit, I asked if the part was new or used. And he said it was an old part. So they didn't even give me what I paid for! Additionally, my neighbor brought their van in there and, for six months, kept returning because they didn't fix what they were supposed to fix. Finally they gave up and brought their van to my new mechanic. (We both went there in the first place because, when it first opened up, the guy in charge was a man we had trusted for years who used to have his own shop. But he quickly left. Now I know why. The owner is not concerned with hiring quality mechanics and running a meticulous shop.) To their credit, Honest 1 offered over and again to fix their screw ups at their cost. I'll give them that. But I think they hire beginner mechanics and allow them to learn on your car. I mean, really. Cutting a line that won't let you shift into reverse? During an AC repair? I never heard of such a thing! I don't think they have good prices, I don't think they have good mechanics and I don't see why anyone would go to them when there are much more honest and qualified mechanics on Rt. 1 to go to. I hate giving a business such a bad review, but I'd recommend people search Yelp for a better mechanic. read more

The people here are nice but its frustrating having my car in the shop for nearly 2 weeks and get charged when no solution was provided or administered. I am giving a 1 star rating because they don't allow a zero. We originally took our 12 year old car in for major repairs in late February 2013. The repairs took over a week to complete and added up to $1,800. The car ran well, and we were pleased. However, just over 2 months later, the car was leaking anti-freeze all over the driveway and the low coolant light came on. We took the car back for more service. The estimate for critical repairs was $211. The next day, we were told the wrong part came in, it would be another day. The second day, we were told the car needed a "special" hose that was going to be an additional $213. What choice did we really have with the car not being drivable? On the call we received to tell us the car was ready, we were informed the coolant sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. We elected to NOT have the sensor replaced but to just pick up our vehicle. To our surprise, the bill ended up being $650. The front counter woman was on the telephone with another client simultaneous to trying to check us out. She did not give us her undivided attention and did not answer our questions to our satisfaction. Little did she know, we were going to schedule tire replacement and alignment on our other vehicle to be done this coming week - but after the lack of customer service we received in addition to being gouged for charges that exceeded the estimate by over $200, we will not be using this service provider again. Oh, by the way, the low coolant sensor reset itself as soon as I drove the car home. If a company is going to boast being honest in their company name, it would be nice to provide honest service to the customer. read more

i didnt want to do this but o well. i took down my last post because they "fixed" my issues.. i have notice a smell but i figured it was residue from the leaks cool.. but tonight on my way home i notice my car is smelly bad again and now there is steam from my hood. again. like the first time i took it in to this facility. so now i don't feel safe driving my car. i should not have to rturn to this facility for the 7th time to fix a problem from thanksgiving.!!! its a bmw and my fear is that since the lack of professionalism, checking my car to make sure that was the only thing wrong, now $2000 later my car still isnt fixed. so instead of taking it back to honesty one for them to mess it up even more. i'm taking it to the dealership tomm morning for them to check it because I don't trust them at all with my car. i would rather a company tell me they can't fix it instead up "trying" to fix it and tell me to take it to a facility that can fix my problem. so now it is going to cost me more $$$ to fix a problem they should of fixed the 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th time taking it there. Overall a good service experience. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door and my car was serviced right away. They found the problem with my car (control arm replacement) showed it to me and it was explained to me it would take a total of 2 hours for the part to be delivered to the store and for the part to be replaced. They have a great waiting lobby with People and Cosmopolitan magazine, a laptop with free wifi and Keurig coffee machine. There's a CVS and a little dollar store type place in the shopping center so I went out for a bit there to kill time while waiting on my car. My only complaint is that it actually took 3 and a half hours total for the car to be finished but that's because they were delivering the part from another store so it took time to arrive. Honestly I'm just happy they were able to do it all in the same day and the receptionist apologized to me for the long wait and did my tire rotation for free. I also got a $50 discount for being a first time customer. My car rides much smoother after having it worked on there. I would come back to Honest 1. UPDATE: I am updating my 4 star review to 5 stars. My husband's side view mirror got broke and had to be fixed because it was time for our safety inspection sticker to be updated. First I went to a local auto shop closer to where I live. I was lied to and told that there was no way we can order just the glass mirror and that we had to replace the whole side unit with parts, labor and computer programming all together adding up to $900+. I was baffled, and ordered my own side view mirror glass from auto zone. I was planning to just fix it myself but was afraid of taking on a project like this alone. Honest 1 gave me a good deal and replaced the mirror and took it to get the inspection sticker all for $120. Thank you very much I appreciate the prompt service. I took our Forester for an oil change at NTB on Monday. In addition to the oil change, they told me that our brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced on both axles and that the back ones would fail inspection if it were done now. This seemed unlikely since the car had been driven only 4,000 miles since passing its last inspection with flying colors. I took it to Beyer yesterday and they said the front brake pads and rotors were perfectly fine, but that the back ones needed to be replaced and the brake fluid needed to be changed. Neither NTB nor Beyer showed me the car to demonstrate why the car needed the work they advised. I then took the car to Honest-1. They removed all four tires and told me nothing needed to be done, that my pad, rotors, and brake fluid were all fine. They took me to the back and showed me the car before putting the tires back on. NTB is next to my gym, so I can do my workout while my cars get oil changes. But in the future I will ignore the convenience of going to NTB and go to Honest-1 Auto Care instead. read more

I had a couple of good experiences here since discovering this place a couple months ago. I normally don't write many reviews... But I was impressed with them. First, I took our sedan in to get an oil change. It was only $20. So I took our SUV in next time. I like how they include a basic inspection when they do an oil change (for no extra charge). There were some items recommended that we opted out of. But what I really liked was my last experience there. I was just about to take a major road trip, and that morning, the car was making a strange noise. A couple months before this, my husband had break work done at another company on Rt 1. So I tried to stop there to see if they could look at it. They said they were too busy and could get me the next day. So I went to Honest 1 and they looked at it right away. Turned out, the first place didn't put everything back in place correctly and it was making a horrible noise. (Sorry, I don't know exact terminology). But Honest 1 fixed it quickly and didn't even charge me... And I got on the road right away! read more

I have been a customer here for 2 years. The place was very reputable and efficient when Omar and his crew were there. It has gone down tremendously. My car was there for a week waiting on parts. When the parts came in I receive a call telling me that they could no longer do repairs because the technician quit. I found out through one of the techs that the manager wanted them to lie about why they could not repair the vehicle. Also, the same tech informed me that the manager wanted them to replace the whole component rather than replace required parts to make more money. This place is no longer honest or efficient. This repair shop is so dishonest. I don't know how they named themselves " Honest-1". They did a repair on my wife's van last week as it has an overheating problem. They told us that they changed the Water pump and the whole cooling system was checked for any leak. They stated on the invoice that they test drove it to see for any leakage. They charged us more than $762. On Monday We observed a leak and the van was taken to them for checking. Then they told us that the radiator is leaking. Mind this folks. They did not tell us when they fixed and checked the cooling system. They also said that it is a new leak. What? They repaired it and checked it on Friday, October 13, 2017 and it was leaking on Monday, October the 16th. So we asked them if they would fix it for us for free as they charged us a lot of money for the incomplete work. They told us that we have to pay $400 to replace the radiator. When we checked with another repair shop in the neighborhood , the price is about $300 including labor cost. So what do you call this repair shop? We call it DISHONEST!! We no longer go there. i took my car in for an oil change, my first mistake after about 2 hours they tell me my car needs all the fluids flushed inc. the power steering . the funny thing is i don't have power steering, so i knew not to trust them. and took my car. i checked the work and found my old oil filter was not changed. do your self a favor and never go there. read more

I will not be returning. On four separate visits for two cars, that included routine service, brakes, timing belt, water pump replacements, and wiper blade replacements -- errors resulting from attention to detail or just plain sloppy maintenance resulted in inconvenience and/or follow on service calls. My most recent visit for a straight forward oil change found my car in worse condition than when I left it. The "Engine Out" light was on when I picked up the vehicle, a condition they initially claimed I had failed to address. In the end, the service tech had simply failed to follow the directions in completing a routine service. And, instead of a phone call, I found out about it when I started the car up after being assured everything was in order. I suggest highly that if you have your vehicle serviced at this location that you open the hood yourself prior to departing the premises to make sure they put the engine oil cap back on as they have a history of forgetting to complete this critical task, resulting in engine oil spraying all over the engine. And, suggest you double check to make sure the do not forget to add windshield wiper fluid as this is another oversight they recently failed to address for me. Sorry. read more

So I had a minor car repair - replacing the mirror (only the glass part) on my passenger side. There was a crack running down it, but I was unable to pass a safety inspection. So my wife took my car to another Auto Shop near us. They wanted to charge us around $1k to fix the glass. The mirror housing was fine, not a dent. I could still move the cracked glass - so no computer issues. That place wanted to charge me a lot to replace the whole mirror housing, and then reset the computer and then labor. I felt that that was a ridiculous amount of money, so my wife and I ordered the glass for around $50 from an Auto parts store. We have dealt with Honest One in the past and had mixed results. However, because my car got towed for having an expired (by only a few days) safety inspection sticker, we decided to take it to Honest One. We thought it would be a lot of money, but no where near what the other auto shop wanted to charge. Well since we bought the glass the price went down. When all was said and done, after installing the new glass mirror, and then performing a safety and emissions inspection, the grand total came to around $120! That was a great deal! My wife and I wanted to try to fix the glass on our own but thought, me with having the grace of a bull in a china shop, would make matters worse. Honest One truly is honest. They fixed the mirror, did the inspections for really cheap and all around an hour. I had mixed experiences in the past with H1. However, this latest repair proved how honest Honest One actually is. Well im going to start off by saying this, if your are a senior, miltary or retired PLEASE DO NOT go to "HONEST 1 auto care"! their are NO certified techs what so ever just ask for the certifications ITS THE LAW THEY *HAVE* TO SHOW YOU!!!! And on the prices they are marked up 3 times more than what they should be. When i walked in the shop I saw a paper that had parts on it from ADVANCE AUTO PARTS and AUTO ZONE. I thought that was cheap of them. That is why I walked out because i myself personally DONT want those cheap, reman parts on my vehicles. The SO CALLED MANAGER behind the desk DONT listen to her she is the biggest rip off i had EVER seen and I think it is very wrong of them for how they do people. This is not just me saying or seeing this my co-wokers, family and friends have all saw this to. It was NOTHING near this bad when doug was there. I had a co-worker tell me about a BAD experience that she had there It went as far as them makeing her lose her car to THEM BECAUSE OF *THEIR* mistake!!! I really hate that they are doing people like this because they are not living up to their name HONEST ONE this is why I am even posting this. And the Indian guy he is full of himself.
