The old slab that we had, had the surrounding trim around the glass that would shrink and crack in the heat. At times it was very embarrassing when company would come over and they would notice we had a new door and there was already significant damage happening to it. I recently purchased a Regency 36 in. x 80 in. Modern 5-Lite Frosted Glass door from the North Austin Home Depot. While the door construction was fine, I encountered several issues that made the process frustrating. First, I noticed that the right-hand and left-hand swing door I saw on the show room floor, despite having the same product number, had different colors and subtle style differences than the one I received from my online order. This color and style inconsistency was not mentioned in the product description or by the in-store staff. To find a door that matched the color of the left-hand swing display model, I had to visit three different Home Depot stores. Additionally, the product description and in-store guidance didn't mention the need for a jamb extension kit, which I later discovered was essential for my installation. The kit was only available online with a shipping cost ($79) that exceeded the price of the kit itself ($73.86) and could not be shipped to the store for pickup which should have eliminated the shipping cost. It took 3 to 4 days to arrive at my home. The kit as advertised said it came with a mill and bronze sill. The kit I received didn't match the description--it only included a 'mill' sill, not the 'bronze' sill as advertised and on the box it came in. Home Depot did not have the door jamb in their stores in my area. I can't be certain, but I don't think they stock it in any of their stores and it's only available on line. The store manager was helpful but also struggled to resolve the issue with the supplier. I hope Home Depot can improve transparency about additional required parts, ensure product consistency, stock additional part needed to complete projects in their store and provide accurate descriptions of their products. paid a lot of money for 3 of their exterior fully finished doors. Started discoloring and losing finish the following year. 3.5 years later, one of them is growing actual mushrooms. (I have photos). When I contacted the company, they had the gall to tell me their fully finished exterior door, required me the customer, to put a protective finish on their fully finished exterior door. Customer service: misleading if not dishonest. Mario refuses calls and will not return calls. I called in February 2026, left messages, no response. Called and asked for someone else, David stated that Steve and Sons had learned of the QMID needed by customers in January 2026 and had applied for it in Jan 2026. I allowed sufficient time, called March 10, 2026, and left a voicemail requesting contact for QMID on Mario's voicemai. No respons. I called again today March 18, 2026. After leaving a voicemail for the ever-elusive Mario, I called again and requested someone else. After speaking briefly to David, Mario came on the line. He was rude and told me that the IRS created the requirement and that they are not getting the QMID because it's not required by law. Zero concern that thousands of Home Depot customers are losing tax credits. I specifically asked about their customers and all Mario would say is that Steve and Sons isn't getting the QMID. This company could have told me their truth a month ago. They could have been honest, but they choose instead to dodge calls, refuse to return calls, then be angry at the customer who was misled (or lied to). read more

We special ordered online an exterior door and paid in full almost $900 and were told it would be delivered to Home Depot in one month. 3 days before arrival due date we were told it was"almost there" were shipper/carrier Estes Trucking. After that? Nothing. The whole order ' dissappeared' . We had taken time off to install, and made preparations. Who's fault is this? HD, S&S?, Estes? After reading all of the complaints, I'm worried about the quality if we EVER get the door on the SECOND 1-month long wait new order??? read more

Do not buy this door! customer service is horrible and they will deny your claim. my door was only a few months old when one of the pane's built up condensation. the door was installed by a home depot approved technician and professional. He mentioned there is no way water should be in the pane. S&S hired a third party to look at my door. it took forever. the gentleman from the 3rd party said there was a small crack in the wood which i can't even see. it is a mystery to me as I was not home at the time. S&S used this micro crack as the NOT UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO CUSTOMER DAMAGE.....what a joke. I now have a front entry door with water inside the pane. read more

Ordered my second door via HD, after first order was lost almost 3 months after I had ordered it. The second door arrived fast, and was very well packaged and free of any damage. The installed door looks great. Even though it was more expensive to order the door from inside the HD store rather then online, as I did the first time. I am happy with my purchase. read more

My wife and I purchased a $2,000 front door through Steve and Son's and after waiting for 2 months to receive the door it finally arrived damaged in numerous locations. We emailed the warranty department within 2 days of the arrival of the door. Didn't hear back for two weeks so we decided to follow up again and they denied our appeal for a replacement door and didn't offer any refunds at all. I asked for the situation to be escalated and the supervisor Maurio Raspante also denied the warranty claim due to us "installing the door" We we're supposed to refuse the door upon arrival. However, it took 2 months to receive this door and our contractor was willing to fix all the issues with the door besides the big dent (which is what we needed replaced) we had an 8ft gap in the front of our house that was boarded up with plywood in the middle of winter waiting for this front door so of course we installed the door. They denied our request for a replacement door, offered no sort of refund, had terrible customer service and very slow response time on a $2,000 door that we waited 2 months for Terrible company and wouldn't recommend them to anyone! read more

HORRIBLE customer experience. I purchased a beautiful door through Home Depot. However it had a leak in the seal, which I noticed AFTER the door was installed and painted. A warranty analyst from Steve's doors said that they would ship me a door and pay to have it installed. My door never arrived on the date it was supposed to be delivered. The warranty technician kept telling me it was "my responsibility" to call the delivery company to track my order. She refused to help me. Finally, after getting hold of a rep on Steve's Doors fb page, I was able to finally get my replacement door..almost two months later....However, my door is STILL sitting in my DRIVEWAY waiting for installation. Of course no one from Steve's Doors is calling me back. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME ! Warning do not buy from this firm. This is a low grade door made from cheap wood filled with wood filler and stained a terrible color it is a ripoff. Bought through HomeDepot it does not look at all like what was shown. The first order was completely lost and we had to reorder. We can't use this door in a half million dollar house. You can see the wood filler under the stain in all the knots. Ash wood with a lot of knots for a $3,300 door? Trash wood they bought cheap. Do Not order from this company. I have been waiting almost 3 months for an exterior door and twice it supposedly got damaged in transit so they keep canceling the order! I ordered on 9/4/20 and on 10/14/20 they cancelled... I had to get back In The queue and reorder on 10/16. Now on 11/20 same excuse it was damaged in transit so they cancelled. Either the company cannot keep up with orders so they are making b.s. excuses or they are incapable of securing a shipping company who wont damage product. Either way Do Not waste you're time unless you want to be frustrated and spend hours in the phone only to be told it's another month before a new door would be ready! read more

I ordered an exterior, out-swing door, through Home Depot and manufactured by Steve's & Son's. I was attracted to the styling, price and relatively quick availability. When I went to pick it up at Home Depot, I noticed several scratches and gouges in the finish. Since the door was still in the over-sized shipping crate, it was obvious the damage did not happen in-transit or at HD; it was clearly damaged at the factory. However, I was on a fairly tight schedule and needed to get the door in, so I showed the damage to the HD employees, took pics and went home with the door. After I unloaded the door, I noticed one of the stickers affixed to the window identified the glass as 'Low E'. The sticker also noted that side of the glass must be facing outwards. It was not. The sticker was on the interior side of the glass. After doing some research, and ascertaining the importance of the glass being properly installed, I called Steve's about the issues. Here's the short story: I spoke with two different, but equally incompetent and unconcerned, women. In spite of explaining the need for a door - now - they insisted I return it to HD, re-order another door and said they would try to expedite the replacement. That was it. There was no, "I'm sorry for your trouble", let alone any offer to upgrade the door, or just send someone out to repair it onsite (all they had to do was remove the glass and flip it around). They made it very clear - this was MY problem and they weren't the least bit interested in doing anything they didn't have to do. So, having no other viable options, I flipped with window (it took less than 15 minutes), filled, sanded and painted the gouges and installed the door. As I attempted to install the deadbolt and handle, I discovered the holes for the lock/latch were drilled too high and did not line up with the lock/latch. Since it is a Schlage lock kit, I had no doubt about the quality of that product. So, once again, I was forced to repair another Steve's and Son's factory mistake. Here's the bottom line: If you want a quality door, as well as a responsible and ethical company that will respond appropriately to issues, do NOT buy it from Steve's & Son's. read more

These are awful doors. Ours came with the speakeasy window totally crooked. The side lights are installed with one inside out, the bottom seal was faulty from day one, the margins are terrible. The contractor that installed it had nothing but trouble. DO NOT BUY THESE DOORS! We attempted to return it, but Home Depot and Steve's and sons make it nearly impossible. HD gave me 10%, but Steve's will not reply, and we'll lose more than the 10% in heat loss this winter read more

I ordered these doors based on previous reviews. I had to give 1 star just to post this review. If I could have given negative stars I would have. After unpacking the doors I found that the trim have been damaged at the factory. In addition the door height was off by 1/2 inch, being 1/2 inch to tall. This was because the base of the door frame, the part that the door tread attaches to, was made from a repurposed piece of scrap from a previous side door frame. You could tell this by the striker plate holes that were routered into the wood. In addition, they forgot to trim the excess off the repurposed scrap causing the frame to be 1/2 inch to high. The width was also off being 3/4 of an inch narrower that their spec sheet. These are just a few of the glaring defects as there were more. Home Depot gladly refunded my money, but it cost me a day of labor that comes out of my back pocket. I would recommend that Home Depot no longer carry this brand as the build quality is substandard. read more

$2500 waste! Save yourself the frustration and do not buy any products from Steves and Sons Doors. We have been going back-and-forth with customer service for over four months since our exterior door was installed. Instead of taking responsibility for the poor manufacturing, their solution was for us to build a bigger roof over it and silicone the entire interior and exterior of their $2500 door. Every time it rains we get puddles on the floor inside our house. They have sent two contractors out to inspect the installation and they have found nothing wrong with the installation of the door. On top of that, the craftsmanship is poor. The trim around the sidelites is completely crooked. We have had to resort to plastic-ing off the the entire exterior of the door to get through the winter. We have had countless conversations on the phone and through email and their lack of concern and poor customer service has been a disappointment to say the least. If you're considering purchasing from them, please do yourself a favor and move on. read more

Bought a simple metal, paneled garage exterior door. After installing the door discovered numerous shafts of light coming through the weather stripping because it wouldn't seal. You could also see light through the bottom door sweep. Called the company, and while the young lady was polite, she didn't know much. They suggested I adjust the threshold but this door isn't adjustable. My first inclination was to pull the door out but a lot of time and effort had already been invested in putting in the trim, brick mold, caulking and painting trim. Home Depot didn't want me to return the door but try to fix it. Sent them photos of the leaks which they passed along to the Steve's rep. He stated the door was not properly sealed and foam was used under the threshold which voided any warranties. There was brown caulk properly installed and since the trim was brown the caulk couldn't be seen. And a month later I received new door sweeps which weren't any better. Bottom line, I sealed the door where it won't leak, but it also won't open. At some point I will find a used door and replace it and leave the "Steve's Door" in front of Home Depot. By the way, the people who work in the door department at Steve's know the doors are poor quality but they don't make the buying decisions. If you need a door, go to Lowe's. Ordered a Steve's & Sons Craftsman Style Knotty Alder exterior door via Home Depot after carefully reviewing the stain that is described as "wheat" on their web site and viewing a sample of the "wheat" stained wood at H.D. Door arrived. It is at least 3, maybe 4 shades darker than what they show on their web site. The website "wheat" picture looks like almost natural wood...it's what you would think "wheat" would look like. What we got was almost cherry colored. Home Depot called them. They said that they had a picture of our door and it was definately the "wheat" we ordered then said that different woods stain differently....did not explain why the same wood in the picture stained so much lighter than what they sent. I called them...sent them pictures of the door they sent...they again said it was the color we ordered. Use caution if you order a door from these people....it will not be the same color as what they show in their pictures. My wife is really pissed at Home Depot but it's not their fault...it is the manufacturer and their deceiving pictures they post. read more

I purchased a fiberglass patio door that had a pet door on one side from Steve and Sons through Home Depot. The door was beginning to pull apart from the core at the door handle, the hinges were installed crooked and set to low. Called HD and in order to return it per Steve and Sons I have to purchase another one first then when they receive the old they will credit the fund back the issue is not my fault. They refused any other way and HD refused to help saying that's their policy. Last time I will purchase any door or window from HD. read more

They've spent three months delivering us two different damaged doors and we STILL haven't received a functional door. Their customer service is horrible and they basically just tell us it's not their problem. They choose their delivery service - not the consumer.
