Rented from Steve's ATV and had a great experience from start to finish. The service was quick, clear, and super straightforward: no confusion, no hassle, and no issues at all. They explained everything well, got us checked in fast, and made the whole process easy. The ATV ran perfectly the entire time. No mechanical problems, no weird noises: it handled the dunes like a champ. The dunes themselves were so much fun and the ride was smooth and powerful the whole time. We had a great time. I had never done this before and it was exciting and nerve racking. Overall I have minimal feedback. 1) we waited on the beach for an hour to be picked up. We didn't get picked up until we called after 1 hour. 2) the checkout process was a little confusing with the waivers. I think it could have been explained a little clearer but there was a lot of paperwork and a lot of info to take in at one time. We thought we understood the waiver deposit was fully refundable but when all was said and done we were charged an extra $100 when we would have just made the full deposit. And so that part was confusing and slightly off putting. Back to the positive. The car we got worked perfectly. I recommend coming in Feb the off season. We basically had the place to ourselves. This is the 2nd time I took my kiddo (now 12) today to Steve's ATV. Easy check-in and amazing experience (shuttle, sign-in, sign-out). The only thing I am not happy about is the check-in time of 1 hour prior or 1.5 hours on weekends; find a way to expedite it (online forms filled out, etc) so that I can spend time wisely. We'll be back in just one month (February) as the kiddo wants to celebrate his birthday riding ATV here!! read more

This place deserves 100 stars!!! We went to 2 other places b4 we came here 2 try something new-dune buggy-ing in the sand dunes. The service @ the counter was 10x's better than the other 2. Very informative & friendly!!! The bus 2 get us 2 the next spot had a friendly talkative lady who had us laughing. The service we received when getting our helmets was great. But, the kicker, was the guy, Preston, who explained all the rules b4 giving us our vehicle. As I've said b4, us Morris girls r spicy w/ lots of fun & Preston totally rolled with it & we were all laughing our rump roasts off!!! We loved joking w/ Preston while he explained the safety rules & we listened 2 every word he said. Within 10 minutes of being out there in the sand, we got stuck & had 2 call 4 help. It took them about 15 minutes 2 get out 2 us & got us out. We were able 2 take off & enjoy the next hour & 1/2. Those dunes r deceiving so I was the spotter while my sister drove us around. This was an adventure worth doing @ least once in your lifetime!!! I highly recommend this place 2 rent from. And I once again want 2 thank Preston 4 giving us 4 crazy sisters lots of laughs & helping us make this adventure a blast!!! read more

Customer service is atrocious. We stood there for 20 minutes and there was no acknowledgement or even greeting. The guys seemed was engaged in a full on conversation with a friend of his; it was apparent because they were not talking g about ATVs. I interrupted with the intent to set up a rental but the guy just called someone else over to help us! Im like wtf- why didnt he do that earlier? Needless to say the other person did not seem happy about the delegation. It was clear that this was a Wednesday and they had other things on their mind. What a bad situation for everyone. The sales pitch was weak, the energy was abysmal and the service was a negative 3 out of 10. We went down to Sun Buggy .Com It was exactly what we needed. It was very fun! Just be careful over the Dunes. You will get stuck a lot but I learned if you go fast all the way to the top you won't get stuck! Once you get to the top, STOP and look to make sure the drop isn't so steep and no one is coming. It took my like 30 mins to get use to it. I recommend doing 2 hours for your first time. I also RECOMMEND bringing your own goggles, gloves and helmet. I did burn my finger trying to lift up the ATV out the sand. The goggles were scratched up and the helmet smelt so bad. OVERALL I had so much fun read more

I have been wanting to ride ATVs for forever now, and finally got to do it this weekend. My friends and I had this booked for a few weeks now, and we were so excited to go do it. In our group of 4, it was 3 of our first times, and we had no idea what to expect. Steve's ATV made it easy and straightforward to understand. Once we were at the loading area for the ATVs, we geared up, and an instructor showed us how to use the vehicles. We got the automatic Kymco, which are supposed to be good for first timers. We also did the early bird special, which gave us an extra hour (9am-12pm), for the price of 2 hours. At first, riding it was pretty scary, but gradually it became easier. They also provide you with a map tell you where you can and cannot got. There's also markers throughout the sand dunes that are numbered to help you identify where you are. It was a little rainy that morning, but overall super fun! I was only able to do it for about 1.5 hours, and then got tired after that. read more

Disappointed as we heard great things about Steve's from a number of sources. I came here with a large group for a bachelor party and the majority of the vehicles seemed to be in need of service even though we only had them for a few hours. We had two vehicles break down, which isn't a big deal but a ton of the vehicles were audibly making weird noises the longer we rode. We had an ATV break down or overheat. My personal vehicle started to rattle and had trouble gaining and keeping speed up hills. It seemed as if the vehicles weren't in the best shape to be taken out as some of them lasted the whole excursion while others seemed to fall apart. One of our party members "broke" a belt while driving about 10 MPH on a flat surface of the dunes. While this can happen, I saw it firsthand and wasn't caused by any crazy maneuver, it was an overuse break. When we brought this up to the worker, they told us that belts can break by "going too fast or too slow, driving on sand, or over dunes." The other workers were very helpful which is why this is getting a 2 instead of 1. The bus driver is a super nice lady who is very talkative and informative about the excursion. read more

We stopped by the beach the day before our dune ride and were greeted by the sweetest, most informative woman (I wish I had gotten her name). She was so patient and kind, asking great questions about our group size, ages, and what we were planning to do. She gave us awesome suggestions and made us feel really excited about coming the next day. When we checked in the next day, the office was super busy and we were a few minutes late (they do ask you to arrive early). Customer service there wasn't quite as warm, but honestly I don't hold it against them because of how hectic it was. Once we got to the area to pick up our ATVs, everything went smoothly. We watched a 15-20 minute safety video, got our gear, and then met the staff assigning vehicles. The guy helping us noticed we were late and made sure to adjust our time so we still got the full experience. That really meant a lot because I was worried we'd lose some of our ride time. During our ride, the belt on our dune buggy broke while we were on flat ground, which was unexpected. But we called the number on the vehicle, and the team came out quickly with a replacement. Best part is they didn't charge us for it. Overall, the customer service was great, we had an awesome experience, and I'll definitely be booking with Steve's ATV again. read more

Excellent service, everyone was nice. I would come back again, no need to choose another. I'll add on in case you are new like me, you park your car, I parked on the beach, but I have all wheel drive SUV, not sure if a car could do it, it was $5. Checking in takes some time with all paperwork then you walk down to the water and wait for the bus to take you to the trailer they have with all the ATV's, watch a video, very basics, you should go to the Oregon website and take the free class online and get the Safety card, they mail it to you, took me 3 hours, nice that Oregon offers it free, not in California. You need this if you are supervising a kid, even if not, it covers everything if you are new to this to stay safe. After the video at Steve's you get your helmet and other stuff and they show you how to operate the ATV and take a little test ride in that area, then drive it down to the dunes, it's a little ways down, maybe 10 to 15 minutes to #10, and then it's like in The Road Warrior movie out in the dunes, everyone is crazy, do your own thing and drive back when you are done and there is a sign where you stop to return it. There are park rangers on the beach so obey the laws, I saw someone get pulled over, looked like they were getting a ticket. There are different numbers for different dune areas, maybe not so crazy at the lower numbers. I saw a bathroom at #10, that's nice. Make sure to buy the insurance they offer on the ATV, I think it's worth having. One more thing, everyone rides or you can't come, we had one non rider that had to stay back at the car on the beach and wait, not fun but at least there are bathrooms there. read more

Extremely rude staff, disorganized, and very frustrating registration. Staff complains about other staff to the customers. Staff also had a very bad attitude when we asked for guidance and had questions about their unorganized registration process. This was a fun, unique experience for the Pismo Beach area! We booked for a one hour ride on a Saturday morning. Because it's busier on the weekends we had to arrive an hour and a half early to make sure we got all of our paperwork settled. Even though you sign a waiver online, you are still required to sign one in person on the day of your drive. After completing the paperwork, which took about 45 minutes, we walked down to the beach and hopped on a shuttle that drove us about five minutes down to where the ATVs are lined up. We watched a 15 minute safety video then set up with our helmets and goggles before we made our way to the instructor to set us up with our ATVs. Since we only booked an hour, we thought it would be plenty of time to enjoy the dunes. I felt like it was enough time, but my boyfriend wished we booked for two hours for the following reason: once you hop on your ATV, they start your one hour timer and tell you to drive down to the entrance of the dunes. The dune entrance is about seven minutes away from where the ATVs are stationed. So in total you lose about 15 minutes of your actual experience just by driving the ATVs to the entrance. Again, I did not mind this, but my boyfriend was frustrated that it felt like we did not get a the full hour as a result. You are also not really provided any instructions on the use of the machine other than the video you watch before hopping on and a quick two minute demo from an employee when they clip your helmet down. I almost wish they would do a general demo at the storefront before making your way down to the beach because once on the beach, you can't even hear anything that the people are saying because the ATVs are so loud. Overall, this is a unique experience for Pismo Beach and it is also good for older children to do with their family. If I did it again, I would probably book the two hours because most people want more time than me lol. read more

Steve's ATV Rentals is horrible, if I could have given no stars that would've been my choice. My family and I drove over 3.5 hours to make it here. Their CS reps kept calling me while I was on the road. During the last conversation, I told the lady that we would arrive at approximately 4:15pm, and she then advised we would only have an hour ride, and I agreed. Do you know that when we got all the way here, I was refunded! If that was the case, why didn't she let me know that 4:15pm was considered too late and refunded me before I drove all the way down here? I'm so irritated and I'm sure if my skin were lighter if would NOT have been a problem. If you have another option while down here, I suggest you take it because these people suck so badly. read more

Sighhhh...what a disappointment! Came as a family of four and rented a RZR UTV for an hour. Arrival time is at least an hour before your scheduled start time for paperwork, the ride down to the dunes, and the safety video. Decided to get the insurance since it was our first time at the dunes. After signing the paperwork we were picked up at the beach by a shuttle and ridden down to the trailer where we watched the safety video and got our equipment. Helmets are included and goggles were rented at $5 each. We rode the dunes for about 15 mins until our vehicle just stopped. Called for help and waited in that spot for about 20 minutes. Someone came out with a replacement UTV and we switched over. The person confirmed a busted chain in the first one. Even the replacement vehicle struggled to get up some of the hills on the way back and were worried it would break down as well. Needless to say we were just ready to go at this point. Got back and requested a partial refund but was only offered a credit. We drove about 45 mins. out from our hotel to get here and did not have time to return the next day. The busted chain seems to be a common issue with this business. I would therefore not recommend this business. read more

I haven't had issues with prior vendors, but this spot is superior - On a separate note and this is more about an exceptional employee - my kid dropped her phone. I asked Gabe for assistance with locating the gps location via the phone which is wonky because of the location. Gabe expertly and kindly navigated the iPhone to point me in the right direction. When I couldn't locate it, and I arrived to report this, he jumped on an ATV with my phone. He went to the location of the gps coordinates. This place is running a racket. At the initial sign up they emphasize the customer is responsible for belt breaks multiple times and it cost $200 unless you buy the $125 insurance. At the dunes during the training period they mention the belts four or five more times. We were assigned the UTV at 4:25pm and by 4:40 we were in a UTV that would no longer move. I assumed it was the belt because the wheels didn't move. It was cold and windy and we had to wait 20 minutes for them to bring us another UTV. They arrived with the UTV and didn't even ask what happened and just unloaded the other one. The ride back was worst than the ride there because the UTV felt like it wanted to give out a few times. The guy Steve seemed a little sympathetic but basically said he couldn't give any type of refund. He said we could get some time back, but there was no way we were going back out there. Unless they put on a new belt for every reservation, how can they determine who wore the belt out? If we rode for 15 minutes, to me it is obvious the previous riders did some damage to the belt. At the initial sign up one of the workers said she knew how not to break a belt because she rode ATV's since she was two years old. If you are a first timer or beginner be prepared to pay for a new belt because they will just say you didn't something wrong to break the belt. read more
