I would give a zero if I could.. After being quoted $400 for labor parts and smog.. They had my truck for 6 weeks and then billed me for $2400. Even after all of this my truck still won't pass smog so they quoted me for another $800 to get it to pass smog.. This place saved my life. Okay maybe I'm being dramatic but I don't know anything about cars and Steve and the guys really helped me out! I have purchased two sets of windshield wipers and wasn't able to have any other mechanic put them on properly. They broke my car while it was in their care. When I mentioned that to them they said I was banned from coming back there. I wasn't even asking for them to pay for any kind of damage. The money wasn't the issue. I was very polite and honest with them. But they treated me like that. There used to be an old man who worked there and he treated me very well and I took my car to him many times. But I don't think he works there anymore. I only delt with these new people a couple times and then all of that happened. I promise you these people are not trustworthy. read more

I got charged 80 bucks to tell me my truck didn't pass smog, it's 90 bucks if it passes, then he tells me if I bring it back he can do a sniff test to make sure it passes next time before he does the test, he should've done that to begin with, I researched other shops and the highest I found was 75 bucks, bobs in red bluff is 68 bucks, that's where I'm going next time and she gave me insight as to why it probably didn't pass, easy fix instead of telling me it's my catalytic converter like Steve did, almost 800 bucks, I shouldn't have to pay that now after talking to bobs so stay away from Steve's unless you don't mind getting ripped off read more

I have taken all of my vehicles to Walter for one reason or another for about a decade now. The shop is always busy but you are always treated with respect and questions are answered without making you feel stupid. I brought one pickup in for a tune up and during the test drive my camshaft broke! I got the call and the news that I needed a new engine was a shock to say the least. I think Walter felt bad when a new engine cost me $5000 and the shop bill came to about $2000. Walter was able to finish up and get the pickup back to me before Christmas. It was a freak thing but they did all they could to get my pickup back on the road again. read more

IF YOU LIVE IN OR NEAR REDDING, TAKE YOU CAR TO THIS SHOP. We were on vacation and our CV joint broke on our car. Our insurance would only tow it to the nearest repair location and they gave me three to pick from. I saw the other review on Steve's and had it towed to him. I am so glad I did. Walter was very helpful. He didn't have the part and had to order it which delayed the work being done by a day. That was OK because the place he orders from is MUCH cheaper than the dealer. He also found our wheel bear was also bad and replaced it without charging for labor. He said he was already doing the CV Joint so it wasn't that much more work to replace the bearings. No Mechanic has ever done that before. He also did this knowing we were only traveling passed Redding and knew we wouldn't be a repeat customer. His shop was packed but he still was nice enough to make sure our car was ready by the time we had to "check out" at the place we stayed at. The final bill was a lot less than I was originally afraid it would be. Redding is lucky to have someone like Walter. He is what makes that shop. I hope the owner gives him a raise. I had heard good things about Steve's so I took my car there for a new timing belt and water pump, which I would normally do myself. Under 10,000 miles later the water pump started leaking so I called them. He would only replace the water pump but wanted me to pay for the labor, which I thought was ridiculous, Paying twice for something that should have been done right the first time. STAND BEHIND YOUR WORK! I then just wanted the replacement water pump and I would do the installation. He said I had to bring the old pump in for submittal to get new pump. WHAT? How long are you supposed to wait for this to happen, without transportation? He refused to stand behind his work and will NEVER take anything there again and will make sure everyone knows that they are not trustworthy. read more
