This shop has help my family and I on multiple occasions and have spent a total of $50 there! They are the nicest and don't nickel and dime you like most shops. One day I have to make a trip to Chico for work but my bottom plastic engine cover was dragging on the ground, they hadn't even opened yet and helped me by pulling it off and they even rotated my tires! I was in and out in 5ish minutes! More recently my car was making a clunking noise in my passenger fender. I had replaced just about the whole suspension myself and couldn't figure out what we making the noise! I brought it in for an inspection so I could just get it fixed and over with, I picked it up and they had fixed the problem and didn't charge more than the inspection! I had been working on that problem for 2 years! (More complaining about the problem, but still!) I was in and out in under an hour. Couldn't recommend more! read more

Awesome and honest. I arrived on a Friday afternoon via tow truck. I had called ahead and they told me they likely wouldn't be able to take my car until Monday. Metric came recommended from a few other local places as I was calling around for an air-cooled VW mechanic. These guys know their air-cooled VWs. They took my VW bus right into the bay when I arrived and immediately worked on diagnosing it's no start situation. An hour and a half later I was back on the road. A big thanks to Metric Motors for taking a random tow-in right away and getting me back on the road (and all at a reasonable cost)! read more

we came into metric motors when our car was making an awful noise- it was diagnosed within minutes and they were the only mechanic in town able to take us with all other mechanics overflowing. they gave us a reasonable quote and the car was fixed and back on the road after an hour and a half. ended up only having to pay half of the quote because the repair was so quick. we love jeff and this whole place. 10/10 recommend! read more

They did it again! SUPER! This time I was going to replace the alternator on our '90 Acura Intergra myself. I had done this at least 3 or 4 times on a series of older Suburbans in years past. The" Haynes" repair book had ,I think, about 2 short paragraphs on the removal and replacement. Something like " jack-up car remove belt, take out 3 bolts and remove alternator. Then reverse to install". Being a great(?) DIYer / Shade Tree Mechanic, I bought a rebuilt alternator and a new belt. I got as far as jacking up the car and looked underneath the engine for the alternator. It looked like the inside of a Swiss watch. Just to get to the belt meant removing 2 other belts. And they weren't looking too easy to access. I lowered the car and called Metric Motors. Dropped it off the next day and was happily surprised when they called the day after saying it was ready. They agreed to use my parts and did the labor at an extremely fair price. It would have taken me two days with questionable success to do that job. This freed me up to tackle a couple of projects at home that DIDN'T involve lying on my back, greasy parts and probably a scraped knuckle or two. Hands down, by far the WORST experience ever with a mechanic. Two separate vehicles, two small, quick and easy repairs were required. One Chevy, one Ford. They're great at charging you for the problem you came in with, NOT FIXING IT, giving it back you after you've done YOUR JOB which is paying, just to have the problem STILL existing. ($350 in my case) When I had my vehicle returned and I noticed the OBVIOUS problem still existed (the car shut off while driving, in fact as I was leaving, I put it in reverse and it died in their parking lot) I called the moment I got home and told them it wasn't fixed. They said, "Ok, bring it back in." So I drove back over there, car died 8-10 times on the 2 mile drive. They kept the car overnight and the next morning I was informed that it would take ANOTHER $350 to fix the problem. No explanation, no apology. Nothing. I went down there, got my keys and drove the car home. BARELY. I took my vehicle to Rocha's in Redding. Dropped it off. Explained the problem to the best of my ability. I picked up my car the next day. Paid $270 for a new ignition coil AND they were actually friendly, kind, caring. Which was refreshing, since I most definitely could never say that about ANYONE at Metric Motors. It's been a week and vehicle drives great, sounds great! Also at Rocha's, I received three pieces of paper stapled together. First page, printout of what had been done. Second page, print out of suggestions for the next 3 months of small things to fix before they become problems. Third page, suggestions on things to replace over the next 6-9 months to prevent problems AND maximize my vehicle's performance. Each page had a list of things with the prices listed. Altogether, it was maybe $300? I appreciated the list according to priority. I was VERY impressed with that. Metric Motors was a complete waste of time and money and had terrible service. read more

We had car problems and were desperate for professional advice. We swung through MM 10 minutes before they closed. Someone was under our hood within 2 minutes. They quickly diagnosed the issue and explained it in plain English. Turns out there was a short term fix which he did for free. He also clearly explained what else needs to be done to permanently resolve the issue. 10/10 would bring my business here if I wasn't just passing through. read more

I've been taking the wife and daughters car to Metric Motors on a regular basis. The last work was my wife's Toyota 4Runner which was taken in for a tune-up. VERY CONDESCENDING Worst experience I have ever had with a mechanic . I brought in my 1986 bmw and all I needed was a computer printout of the diagnostic code so that I could fix the car myself and get rid of the check engine light. When i went to pick up my car she told me that my car was too old and did not store computer codes. I explained to her that a auto shop in Redding Ca had hooked up my car to their computer just a year before and gave me the printout so that I could fix it myself. She once again told me wile rolling her eyes and raising her voice that she has one hundred thousand dollars in diagnostic equipment and that I was basically lying. I continued to tell her that i could show her my bmw book for my car and where the plugin was so that they could do it with their "hundred thousand dollar equipment". She refused meaning she didn't have the computer part to attach to my car like she told me they did and had me pay 98 dollars to do basically nothing to my car they changed a o ring when I told them not to fix anything all I wanted was a diagnostic. My heart was pounding when I left the building I will never go through this again. read more

I towed my car in, as I was traveling through from wayyy out of town and AAA recommended them. They seemed very nice and caring at first, but in the end it took them more than a month to replace my engine and they gave me a CRAP one that struggles to go over 50MPH and keeps turning off mid drive. 1 month + $3000 for a dying engine doesn't seem like a good deal. I'm guessing it was easy to take advantage of me since I'm an out-of-towner. read more

My mom's car had a recall on it, and Metric Motors, was the 3rd party automotive shop that did the work about 3 weeks ago, give or take a day. The car runs well, none of the repair or rather placement has caught on fire or stopped working. There are no lights on the dashboard and everything works well. They said the work would take 2 hours, and 2 hours after I showed up, they told me the car was ready. If you live near Anderson, I recommend this company. read more

Got smogged, no problems. Receptionist helpful during phone reservation, drop off was a breeze and 35minutes later they were done and I was out the door. Shop looked clean. Water misters on the front allowed me to sit outside and wait in the middle of a norcal summer day. Nice touch. Both times I entered the office the front ladies were on the phone with personal calls but immediately hung up to serve me. I'd try them out for car repair if I'm in the area. read more

I'm laughing as I read the other comments and realize I received the same horrible service from the Husband and Wife dynamic duo. She is really the point of contention. Condescending, ignorant, and clearly self absorbed with telling customers that she is the owner and how much money she pays for diagnostic equipment. Thankfully I'm intelligent enough and filled with enough self esteem to have put her in her place and only continued with a smog check (which I passed without issue) out of personal convenience. Do not go here unless you own a money tree in your back yard! We told them our car was overheating and it was either the thermostat or the water pump. Then they charged $50 to for diagnosing the problem. The lady in the office was rude and made sure we knew she was the owner when we questioned the bill. They charge $100 per hour. Beware!! after reading these reviews I am shocked to see that some rated highly and also shocked to see that others feel they were taken advantage of because they were out of towners!! on a trip to Redding I encountered some car starting problems. nothing that hadn't happened before, and the car was in running condition, so I took it in just as a precaution because I didn't want a bigger problem to arise later. they were informative and accepting upon my arrival however when their mechanic blew out my PCM computer piece everyone got very quiet. no explanation was provided as to why I could not leave with the same running condition my car was brought in with. they also said they could not diagnose the problem as to why my car was now not starting because they didn't have the proper tools. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WOULD AGREE TO WORK ON A VEHICLE KNOWING THEY DO NOT HAVE THE SYSTEM TO WORK ON IT!! this is perplexing to me even to this day. I feel that because I was out of town they didn't seem to worry about keeping business. I was given no other option but to tow my vehicle to a dealership who had the correct parts. they offered me a one hundred dollar compensation toward my repair which was infantile considering they had fried the computer and my trip was ruined as the part took two days to come in. NOT SUFFICIENT. my advice to the staff here...don't work on a car youre not capable of understanding. read more
