I'm not one to leave reviews specifically for mechanics, but it was very disappointing that I had spent around $4400 here for replacing parts on a motor that were unnecessary as after all of it they realized the motor was blown. To put new parts on a blown motor especially $4400 was a waste. If it was a few grand, I would've been more understanding, but this is quite a bit of money that could've gone towards a new motor or other needs. They did treat me well but so much wasted money. read more

By no fault of Steve and his amazing team, I've been in this shop so many times that Steve feels like my uncle at this point. Since I got my rig 2 years ago, it's been nothing but problem after problem, in nightmarish fashion. When I finally got to Steve, I'd just about had it with mechanics. Steve is a straight forward guy who comes off a little gruff but has a heart of gold and truly cares about his shop and his clients. He's got a great team of pros behind him and I've never once had them try to sell me something that I don't need. They're QUICK, too, which is rare these days. Called to get a quote on some really bizarre repairs due to the situation my bmw was left in by it's previous owners. They were happy to talk to me over the phone to discuss the issue and potential fixes. When there was something they couldn't answer, they would find out and give me a callback to address the question. If you need help, give them a call and find out if they are able to provide a reasonable solution to your issue, the worse they can say is no. read more

I like the service I got from Steve's. When I first moved to San Diego and bought my car I went to him and he checked everything out and made sure that whatever needed to be fixed would be covered by the dealership's warranty policy. Months later when I needed to have my oil changed I decided to go back to Steves. When I spoke to Steve (the owner) on the phone he remembered the details of who I was. (where Im from, etc) which was impressive, since he has so many customers. When I came in he also remembered all the details about my car before pulling up the file, which was great since I felt like he cared to know his customers as well as the automobiles he fixes. Since I am a first time car owner Steve made sure one of his employees went through all the details about operating and understaning my car in terms of maintenance and service, which the dealership I bought it from did not. My mom took her Mercedes to get checked for an unusual sound, the owner told her that she needed "new brakes". Be mindful that this is my moms Sunday driver she has another car which is her everyday driver , she's a law biting citizen that drives exactly the speed limit and doesn't believe in tailgating ... he told her that they were "shot" . That's clearly not accurate. We took it to, our now go to place for our families cars, Buzzuto Motors about a mile down on Morena ... the owner said that there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with the brake pads and the sound was caused by something completely different not even in the same category. Typically after leaving an auto shop, I feel take advantage of. This is especially true with my last experience at a MB dealership, they charged me $180 just to tell me they couldn't fix something. However, for the first time ever, it is I who took advantage of an auto shop! At least that's how I felt when I left Steve's Beemer. I called around to get quotes for the service I needed for my Mercedes (B1 service) and his price was unbeatable. I honestly thought he misspoke when he quoted me but I wasn't going to argue :). I have been taking my Mercedes here for repairs since the day the warranty expired. I was a referral from a friend who had had her Mercedes maintained/repaired here for a decade. Pretty early on I realized why she was so happy. Upon taking my car in to have a problem resolved Steve did some research and found that the $1400 part that was needed to fix the problem had already been replaced once at the dealer, so he had the car towed back to them, where the problem was fixed under warranty and at no cost to me. While there have been some significant repair bills over the years, you do have to pay to play, and you definitely pay less here than you would dragging the car to the dealer for post-warranty repairs, and you never have to guess whether a repair that was performed was actually needed. read more

I was having issues with my BMW X-1 2013. On fri, oct 10th 2014, my front right tire indicator on my car was showing that I had low tire pressure. I went to a gas station that night and put air in all four of my tires according to the PSI indicator on the side the car. The next day when I turned on my car, all for tires were now indicating that they were low on pressure. I spent the better part of my entire weekend going from gas station service to next, repair shop to the next repair shop only to find that no one can figure out why all four tires were leaking air. I brought my car into Stephen's shop, and his crew automatically began to look at the vehicle. Stephen told me that because my vehicle was a lease vehicle, it came with a manufacturer warranty on it, therefore he could not make any major repairs, if they were needed. However, he did tell me that he and his team would do everything they could to see why the tires were leaking air. I don't know what kinda magic they worked, but they got the computer on the dash to stop indicating that all four tires were low on pressure. Stephen did not charge me at all for this service, and was even nice enough to offer to wash my car!!! What??! That's freaking awesome. Steve was very nice and helpful as were his crew but my big problem is that he repaired my vehicle without permission and then called me and said it's done!! I didn't want to cause a scene so I paid the $1100 but was later told by another in the industry that he has heard this happen many times there. My car seems to be running well since the repair. Don't know if it's related but I now have an oil leak (they changed my oil)/ bad gasket that is going to cost me another $300. Could they not see that the gasket was bad when they were working on it 3 months ago? Maybe not, to be fair.... Be careful if you take your car here to communicate clearly about what and when they should repair. I think I'll go elsewhere for now.... read more

Get ready for the HARD sell. I was referred to Steve from a transmission mechanic who did a diagnostic on my Mercedes and wanted Steve to use his "star system" to confirm what he thought was the issue. I should've listened to my intuition when I thought it was odd that he kept insisting I confirm I was paying for a $108 diagnostic check multiple times that I'd already confirmed I would (even after the first mechanic spoke with him and gave his professional opinion). I waited a couple of hours for him to call me back and give me a quote for $1700 due to my alternator that "needed to be fixed IN ORDER to fix my transmission or it may shut down again". It didn't sound right to me so My fiance asked for a copy of the diagnostic check that I PAID FOR when he went to pick the car up and was told "it was too complicated for me to read" and was denied the request. I pushed further for this supposed diagnostic check that was ran. I mean, it was referred to repeatedly when telling me that I should purchase a whole new part to my car, so why shouldn't I be able to see it when I have literally paid for it?? I was told it would be 'mailed to me'. That didn't raise an eyebrow at all. All in all, I decided to get a quote at another Mercedes mechanic with the star system and was quoted $900 to fix the same exact problem. Car is running just fine. I am giving this review 4 stars only because I have not yet inspected and driven my car after the repair. However, Steve just did a few services for me; front brakes, fix burned out headlight and a 10,000 mile service on my Mercedes. I feel like he did everything he could to make things easy. I live 5 mins away from the shop, so one of his guys picked my car up for me from my house, for the repair. I got a 10% coupon in the mail from his shop and he let me use it and keep it! A little kindness can go a long way. I have a problem trusting mechanics from past experiences but he made me feel comfortable enough so far to come back! They work on Beemer and Benzs for prices much better than the dealer. I would recommend them so far! read more

The maintenance and knowledge at Beemer & Benz is good but the parts are too expensive. Get a quote and see what you need and buy the parts online. $250 EA. for O2 sensor @ Beemer and Benz, online they are $60. After spending $2200, my car it did not pass smog and the check engine light came back on. I took my car back and Steve said I needed a new airflow sensor that cost $480 @ Beemer & Benz. I bought one online for $220 and installed it myself. read more

I went here to get the transmission checked on my car. The BMW dealership had already told me it was failing a few months ago but we wanted to work with a local business owner. Steve was very responsive and I was able to get my transmission replaced and a whole slew of other things taken care of within a few days. I can't really speak on behalf of the "expense" and what is fair and not fair because this is just not my category or comfort zone. Of course, if you look hard enough- someone else can always do it "cheaper". I feel I paid fairly for quality, convenience, and great customer service. What I can tell you is I do believe what I paid at Stephens was less than BMW. I also believe they did more repairs than BMW intended to do and therefore I believe I got more for my money. 1) He paid for the towing from the dealer to his shop. 2) He provided a ride for me to/from his shop as well (I was planning on walking or taking an uber)! 3) When I picked up my car it was washed and clean on the inside. The last 3 things; the towing, the ride, the carwash- they are small expenses compared to what I had done- but it was the customer service, the lack of harassment, and feeling comfortable with the repairs they did for me. I brought my car here the first time because then BMW dealership could not identify a couple of problems but Steve found the problem right away and fixed it. FRAUD ALERT: Steve is a great scam artist!!!! I brought my vehicle in because the check engine light flashed on then off and clouds of smoke came out my exhaust a few times. To make a long story short he came up the idea that I needed a new battery and alternator at $500 and that I need to replace head gasket valves, hoses, belts etc. I ended up paying $1880 for NOTHING related to why I brought it in. But he convinced me it would solve the problem. As I'm driving away the car loses all power on the freeway and is in worse condition then when I brought it in. He continues to need my car for another week. Somehow he put 98 miles on it test driving it!!!!! And the leather weather was torn by the mechanic who had a sharp objective and in his pocket. We went round and round My CAR NEVER FIXED. So we called the cc company had them charge back the payment to him and he had my husband arrested. Small claims here we go. Not only for repairs but now for defemation and slander. After all this it's my catalytic converter and it's covered under federal warranty. Ugh!! I do not recommend this company. read more

"You asked me if the car was worked on previously, once I arrived at the shop! Not when I spoke with you over the phone. So it's not a matter of me being straight forward with you or not, as if I was attempting to hide the vehicles history, I wouldn't have even been aware that it was concern of yours until you ask! If that was a valid concern of yours, why wait all the way until I tow it in to ask? So I could think "well I've gone this far might as well go through with it"? Bait and switch..." He is making it appear as if I am the one who was masking any previous work until I finally brought it in, when in fact he, being the business for 28 years, as he states, failed to address a concern of his, all the way until I went through the process of having the vehicle towed in. As a matter of fact, we had multiple phone conversations regarding my vehicle's issue, so he had plenty of chances to address his concerns. Does this usually happen with a reputable shop? Seems more like a sales tactic rather than just a simple lapse in memory. Obviously I wouldn't go through the hassle of towing it in, risking the possibility of being denied service just because he doesn't favor the facility who had previously worked on the car, and because I addressed the facts he stated to me over the phone which were that he would inspect it for free. This is why I brought it to another reputable facility and yes they are reputable, and the car now drives like a charm. By the way I ended up paying less and was quoted less for each repair our vehicles need versus what I was quoted from Steve. I was hoping this is just a failure to remember these concerns or something of that nature but hey, he himself claimed to be in the business for 28 years so given that statement, a professional would not forget to address a concern of his that would sway the decision on whether to work on a car or not. My 2008 BMW 135i fell off the BMW maintenance plan last September, so when my convertible top decided it no longer wanted to be a convertible I assumed there would be an arm and a leg involved in paying to fix it. I called around town and was told by multiple other shops they didn't work on convertible tops, I should take it to the dealership. Then I got in touch with Steve and he had me bring the car in and told me he would take a look if he couldn't work on it he wouldn't charge me and if he could they would get it done, turns out his diagnostic machine worked on the top and they got me in and out of there for a couple hours of labor and the cost of some wiring supplies. The repair at the dealership likely would of been 2 or 3 times as much because instead of fixing the part they would of replaced things until it worked again. I will definitely be bringing my car back here! read more
