I've been seeing Jerry at Greenlight for several years now and have always had a great experience. I have a 2006 Honda CRV and over the years a number of work has needed to be done. I was off-roading in the desert and went over a rock that damaged my gas canister under the car. He was able to source a cheaper one and replace it for me. He's done my brake pads and rotors as well as control arms. He's also just done oil changes for me. The times that I've needed something done, he breaks down the quote, explains what needs to be done versus what can be put off for a few months, and answers my questions. Recently, the a/c failed on my 2002 Rsx Type S. And, a few other things, too, like the remote door opener, interior light and intermittent wiper. Odd stuff and seemingly unrelated. But, Jerry and Christine dug in and found that they all run through a control box in the driver's foot well panel. Obviously, Honda doesn't have that part anymore, so Christine went to work and finally sourced it. The replacement works like new and I have a/c and remote door locks again! I was surprised at how little it cost for them to get it done! They have done great work on everything else I've needed. They are true professionals in service work and great people to know! Gotta update my review because I've been going to Jerry for over ten years and cannot say enough good things about him and everyone at Greenlight. Frank has dropped me off and picked me up from work when my car needed care. Jerry has gone with me on drive alongs to get the car to make an elusive sound to diagnose. They recommend places for services they can't do, and their prices are very reasonable. They are reachable by text and have been available to help me with all levels of car assistance. Possibly the most important, they are honest and explain everything. That's what won me over first. They are also so willing to help and don't nickel and dime you. My coworker had issues with her car and wanted a second opinion and Jerry was able to give her assistance by phone. They basically feel like family and I would highly recommend to anyone. I absolutely love Greenlight! They have a loyal customer for life for sure. They've seen three of my cars now and even bought my first car ever off me after helping keep it running for a nice long lifetime. One of my best finds on Yelp, which is saying a LOT. read more

We used to take our Acura here for all our services. I think they may have sold a couple years ago and have moved to a new location. The old owner was super honest and his prices were really good. I recently brought it in for the AC and a brake inspection. The brakes were quoted at $1,274.24. For the AC they couldn't find anything wrong with the AC and it would just cost us $241.97 to service and recharge. Since we are selling the car I decided to hold off and decide on what to do. I ended up ordering brake pads and rotors all the way around and doing it myself for $258.36. That's not the issue I had. Brakes are brakes and they have to make money. I get it. Where I have some issues is the over charge on the parts and then $608 in labor. The rear pads and rotors took me an hour and i don't have a lift and my tools are hand tools not compressor. Seems a little much to charge 4 hours of labor for it. My 2nd gripe and this is the one that's really driveling me to post this review. After doing the brakes I wanted to get the AC charged so I dropped it off at a different t shop by my work so I could walk to work while it's getting done. Shop called me after 20 min saying that the compressor was bad. Green light missed that, or didn't test it, and was perfectly happy charging me $241.97 for something that wasn't even going to fix the issue. Oh and this other shop was only $180 for the AC service and recharge. I won't be bring any of my cars back here again. read more

Best independent Honda/Acura service in SD. Jerry is honest, knowledgeable and works hard for you. He takes very good care of my wife's 2008 MDX. When you are good at what you do, you don't need to upsell on items that can be done down the road. For example, just had our MDX in for a failing brake booster and an oil change and Jerry mentioned that the brakes needed to be done next time we come in for our oil change. Love these small, family-run businesses and will support them and sing their praises all I can. Jerry's wife works the front of the house and she is great on the communication front. Just want to warn people. This guy may do decent work but you are being GOUGED on parts cost. I just was quoted parts costs that were insanity. Exedy clutch kit for 90s Honda from Carquest is 170. order online cheaper. They quoted me 550 dollars just on that part! They quoted me well over 400 on Cardone CV Axles! Those are 150 for the pair just cheap Chinese knock offs you can get anywhere. No different that Duralast etc . Their labor cost is also inflated. I mean I guess if you wanna pay through the nose good for you but wow. This place is gouging you on prices. Do research before doing business. yikes. *****UPDATE ....My brother called to get their quote in writing and once she learned of the Yelp review after agreeing to send the quote, freaked out and never sent it. She's scared of us posting proof and got super defensive and verbally attacked my brother over the yelp review which is 100 % FACTUAL!!! Math and prices don't lie!! I recently brought my Acura ILX here for an A1 service (the most basic service which primarily entails an oil change). I found this business on Yelp after I grew tired of drinking the dealership juice about being told that I need this that and the other done to my car. At my 30,000 service at the dealership several months ago I was told I was in need of new brakes by my next oil change. I took it to Greenlight and was told that my brakes still have another several thousand miles on them and they didn't think they needed replaced until my next oil change. I am glad that I decided to bring my car here and get a very efficient oil change as well as an honest opinion. I am happy to do the necessary maintenance to keep my car running smoothly, but I also don't want to be taken advantage of due to my automotive ignorance. I could tell this place would be great from the moment I called to make an appointment. I spoke with a man named Jerry and he was really helpful explaining the service and getting my appointment scheduled. I showed up at the scheduled appointment time and they were ready for me. They promptly got started and I was in and out of there within a total of 40 minutes, so impressed! They have a little waiting area with a couch and a tv. Their prices were definitely better than the dealership and I feel better supporting a local business and getting an honest opinion in return. Very easy to get to Greenlight, and lots of good eateries nearby for lunch afterward! I will be sure to return here for future auto related needs. read more

I came here because of the yelp reviews but I also called like 5 other companies around the area for cost on brake replacement. This was the second cheapest on brake replacement and they said they could have the truck out to me within the day. And I needed my truck for tomorrow, otherwise i would've gone to this other dealership that is waay cheaper The warranty on the brakes last only a year and 30k miles compared to other companies but that have lifetime warranties but this company says they use top of the line pads and it sounded convincing. I'm not really the type of person that knows and looks at break pad quality. I was just looking for a cheap price really because I needed pads. What kind of screwed me was that I needed my brake rotors replaced and it couldn't be resurfaced. By then my truck was already dropped off and I called other companies again just to check how much it would be. Everyone charged around 510 including labor and everything with the brake fluid. There is a company that charges much cheaper and is on yelp. But I needed my truck right away and couldn't wait until the next day. I know they get really busy. The other place charged less than this place by far.. But also, it would've taken Greenlight an hour to put every thing back together and again, I needed it right away. In total, it cost me 573.65. A little more expensive but again, the other yelp reviews got me here. I was explained to that these were high quality brake pads and that's why the warranty is only a year but what do I know. The price on the brake pads wasn't too bad. It's the price on the rotor replacement and labor costs that sucked. I know people need to get paid but I'm always about team me. If only I didn't need my truck for tomorrow.. For quality, I'm sure this is the place to go.. But I'm on a budget.. And that's why, as much as this place does premium work and use only the best.. In my case.. I would've been fine with the cheaper rotor replacement, cheaper brake pads with lifetime warranty and cheaper labor. But that's just me. read more

I brought-in my step-son's 2004 Acura TSX after the engine light came-on, throwing a air intake leak code. I just replaced the starter myself and figured I didn't put something back the way it was supposed to. Anyhow, the Jerry was quick to point out that I used the wrong throttle body gasket and the air intake hose had a crack in it; this probably explains why the throttle body was so dirty. After approving the work, the car was ready in just a few hours and the prices were very reasonable. I'm definitely going to come back for future maintenance and service work. read more

I know Jerry for sometimes he is a great friend and he know his stuff when comes to cars, I always ask him for advise all the time and he pretty much sum it up to me and even telling me what's the problem now tell me who does that my bet no one and his price is pretty fair and cost way less then the dealer ship. I had a problem with one of my brake caliper the bolt got stuck and won't come out so I stop by his shop and ask him how much it will cost to take it out, Jerry told me just leave it here and when he got time he will take it out for me for free and I am bless that he said that I'm like WOW!!! really he told me just give him like couple of hours and he will get it out I'm like cool which he did, as a token of a great friend I treated him for lunch and we both got koolaid all around thank you Jerry you the BEST!!!! read more

Five years later I can still rely on Greenlight auto! I was going to Western Auto service for awhile since their prices are reasonable for a dealer alternative. Jerry prove those guys wrong with the experience department! I came back here to do another egr port cleaning. The others guys didn't want to touch it. I found the business on Yelp 6 years ago when we moved to San Diego and I needed maintenance on my Honda. My husband was deployed and I knew no one. They have never tried to tell me I needed something done that I didn't. They will give you a heads up on things to watch. For example, let you know when your brake pads are getting to where they'll need to check on them the next oil change, and if they're still good they'll check again next time and tell you to just listen for squeaking. Other customers can tell you how trustworthy this shop is. They are fairly priced. They're a small enough operation to give the best customer service and top notch work on your vehicle. Don't hesitate to give them a go if you need maintenance. You'll pay more for an oil change than one of the quick in and out chain shops (though an oil change here is something you can get done on your lunch hour with an appointment), but this is one of those things that you get what you pay for. You won't get home and find oil drops in your driveway because the oil pan wasn't put back properly. This is the old school "they do things right the first time and every time" shop you can trust. It's why you'll meet other longtime customers who tell you they'll never go elsewhere. read more

Like many Honda owners we buy and keep our cars forever. We are original owners of all 3 cars and understand the importance of good quality maintenance. Frank will always tell me if something has to be repaired or replaced, or if it can be deferred for a couple of months. I feel completely safe and confident having them work on my car. Most recently, my 78 year old mom's beloved 2001 Accord had a pesky intermittent electrical issue. It was the hardest kind to diagnose and fix because of course as soon as we'd bring the car in it would start right up. For those of us who know little about cars besides how to drive them (and even that is sometimes questionable), going to the mechanic is an experience that many people will admit to avoiding like the plague. After pushy sales experiences at any of the easily recognizable chain stores and dealership mechanics out there, I can't really blame anyone for letting their brand new Civic turn into a clunker after waiting 20,000 miles to get the oil replaced. Who really needs a radiator, brake, and transmission fluid exchange EVERY TIME the car goes in for an oil change? And what, exactly... WHAT is a "tune-up"? Given the typical hostile mechanic environment, I was becoming increasingly accepting of the idea that honest and professional mechanics do not exist. That was until Mr. Yelp introduced me to the guys at Greenlight. I took my '05 Civic in to these guys to get the oil replaced - a very simple and quick routine. All went well until one of the mechanics pulled me to the back and said, "Your front engine mount is broken. Did you know that?" In my mind I thought the same pattern was being repeated - up-sale the oil change and get more money out of the stupid boy. They kindly offered to show me what happened and, sure enough, the engine mount was completely broken and needed to be replaced ASAP. To my surprise, the cost of replacing the mount was actually lower than the estimate. Finally, a mechanic who doesn't take advantage of a high estimate and charges only for the amount of work done! How long I'd been driving with a broken mount was anyone's guess. Judging from the significant improvement in the quality of my car's acceleration, I would say that the guys over at Honda missed it for at least 6 months. I learned about this place through my roommate, who had to take his Honda Pilot in for a CEL (Check Engine Light). I took my 2003 Acura RSX-S with 116,000 miles in for a check up, and Jerry the mechanic gave me an honest service, telling me that I needed to replace a broken motor mount, front passenger strut tower, but not replace my brake pads because they were still new. The price is very fair, and Jerry does not push you to purchase any more services than you need. I've been going to this shop for 1 year (ever since I got my car) and I'm very happy with the service. I tell all my friends with civics and other Honda vehicles to go to this place rather than Pacific Honda and I would not tell anyone otherwise. By the way, for those of you doubting the legitimacy of this shop, Jerry the mechanic is very knowledgeable on Acura and Honda vehicles, so much that Acura NSX owners from around the country come to this shop to service their cars. read more

Found this shop through Yelp. I had my 1999 Accord service by them in Jan 2013, and I spoke with Jerry, he very knowledgeable. He took the time to answer my questions regarding the transmission which was beginning to act up. Today, my third visit, I brought in my younger brother's Tacoma in for Shocks replacement and Brake line install. I purchased the parts on my own since I prefer certain brands and they are charging for install. I plan to take the other cars in my family once they fall out of warranty. Too bad they only specialize in Japanese cars; we have a BMW and MERC that I rather take to them then the dealerships. Great Job guys!! And I'm grateful my job is nearby.
