For those of you that have not priced these things out before, quite a bit has changed over time...like the cost! Also, technology has moved on as well, so it's virtually impossible to replace "just the condenser" without all the additional furnace components...they simply won't work together. We called several HVAC contractors...one of them being the large energy company we all know in this area. They came in and did their inspection and were very professional. But their price was 50% higher than the local competition. Yes you read that right!! I wasn't concerned about the "big guys" doing it right, since they are our current utility firm and we have appliance contracts through them. But in light of these tough economic times, I really wanted to give it to a small business. I just wasn't sure how well they would stand behind their work and whether they would do it right the first time. I did research and found two other options. The one that really stood out was AAA Comfort Air in Cream Ridge, NJ. They had over 95 five-star reviews, and although anyone can fake a review, I still felt compelled to do my due diligence. I set an appointment for Emil (the owner) to come in and assess the situation. He was professional, took his shoes off before entering (not at our request), and clearly laid out what was needed and NOT what was most expensive. As a matter of fact, he recommended options that were less expensive vs. those that would simply feed his wallet without added benefit to us. His demeanor was polite, knowledgeable, and he took the time (over 1-hour) to really explain everything without pushing for the sale. Additionally, there are some unique challenges in our home that require minimal dust due to some family health issues and he offered to put up plastic to separate the rooms to ensure a clean work environment. Well, much to my surprise, Emil, came back with an estimate that was truly outstanding vs. simply "competitive". Likewise, his firm provides a 3-year parts and labor warranty (not an option...he just provides it) along with the condenser manufacturer's 10-year. The others only offered 1-year.... that in of itself really resonated with me! We decided to move forward, and I have to say, we made the right decision. Emil and his team were outstanding. They arrived on time, ready to go, and their work was outstanding. Everything was done in one day, with a clean install and a fully working system. Look, HVAC replacement won't make your home look nicer, but it surely is important. No one wants to spend that kind of money unless they have to. Emil and his team were not only very competitive, but they delivered on their promises and were very customer focused. If you are seriously considering a project like this, you need to consider AAA Comfort air. They deliver on their promises and care about their customers. They go above and beyond and deliver with an eye towards balancing price with efficiency. We highly recommend them and you should absolutely include them in your decision-making process. They truly are "AAA".

But here's a suggestion: don't agree to do a job provide a proposal by a date certain and then just ignore two or three follow up emails as a potential customer's time runs out. Pretty simple. We move on. Actually worked out better - found a far more reliable, friendly local plumber who was responsive and charged me $200 less. I should have known Service Tech wasn't reliable when they - well Denny, just threw out a nearly $600 flat quote to install one simple bathroom faucet...without ever seeing the job. I asked if he wanted the model number for the faucet. No need for that when he had no intent to follow through. Makes me wonder about all the other positive reviews. Maybe they were customers who paid for more expensive jobs. What a shame I just had a faucet.

I also liked the fact Anthony didn't have any of those scam maintenance contracts that the bigger guys try to intimidate you into signing. If they try to pull that crap, run. My father was in the trades and working with him when I was younger gave me a good BS detector. That said, I called Anthony, left a message and he got back to me within 15 minutes. Super honest nice guy. I explained my issue and he explained that he can fix central air units but doesn't replace them, which I initially thought was disappointing, but it turns out to be the best way. Think about it. With older units most other companies are going to tell you to replace the entire thing. They don't want to replace some part because there's no big payday in it for them. I liken it to a dentist. They don't try to save your tooth anymore because they can make much more money putting in an implant. After a time misunderstanding on my part, we arranged a time and Anthony showed up ,on time. He diagnosed the problem and replaced the part at very little cost. All guaranteed. I'm just happy if it gets me through the summer. You have to call Anthony first, before anybody else. This recommendation is underpinned by responsiveness, excellent customer service, strong technical ability - and most importantly - a personable, trustworthy, and passionate owner-operator. With the turn of the seasons, our aging furnace wouldn't blow warm air. After researching local HVAC companies via online reviews, we connected with Master Home Touch Service in the Freehold/Manalapan area. The owner, Hovhannes Mirimanyan ("Hov"), was free that day for a service call ($100, but waived for larger projects). We mutually agreed that it was time to replace the 30 year-old furnace. Hov carefully walked us through the issues with our current furnace and air conditioning systems. He then outlined in a "no pressure" presentation several solutions, providing a cost-benefit analysis of each system (G/E, Rheem, Bosch). He showed us photo portfolios of past similar projects. A few days later, a three-person installation crew arrived at our home at 7 AM to perform the removal of the prior HVAC, and install the new system. The installation was completed by lunchtime, with our home left in pristine condition. The next morning, Hov returned to walk us through the details of the installation and how to perform basic maintenance items on the furnace. The Rheem system works great, is quiet - and connected to a smart Honeywell thermostat. The price paid was fair relative to the quality of services rendered. In summary, I highly recommend Master Touch Home Service for residential HVAC projects. They also provide commercial service and selecting plumbing services (e.g., hot water heater replacements).

My Tech arrived on time and described what was giving to be done. He even needed to pull new wiring from the units to the thermostats and thankfully he had attractive base plates to mount the Ecobees on the wall, as the hole left from removal was too large. He then worked with me on my app. I am planning to use Master Touch for some electrical work and I will hire them for spring and fall HVAC servicing. I am sharing my experience to caution others about the post-payment treatment by Golden State Air Conditioning. To provide a balanced view, the installation process was smooth, and their team was somewhat attentive until they received full payment. However, once the job was done, their customer service became totally unresponsive. Since the contract was signed, attempts to contact them for follow-up or support have been unsuccessful. Despite numerous calls, there has been no response, and messages remain unreturned. It appears that their business model involves providing excellent service to secure jobs and payment, followed by complete abandonment. This situation is frustrating and stressful, and customers deserve to be aware of their post-sale treatment.
