I'll be posting a very detailed review complete with model number and a price breakdown later today…read morebut I wanted to get this out quickly to save anyone the mistake of using this company. First they don't and WON'T give a parts and labor price breakdown on their estimates or invoices which should have been the first red flag. I've used this plumbing service before but didn't require any expensive parts previously. Their labor rate is high but you get what you pay for in my opinion so I don't mind that. However I received an estimate for $1600 for parts and labor combined to replace a pressurized well tank and again they refused to separate it. I figured that it was a complicated installation because I priced the tanks and they cost around 4 to 5 hundred dollars. We were without water so I agreed to the estimate. They came on Friday but said they couldn't complete the job until Monday due to parts availability even though the parts are available at every local hardware and big box store. Monday came and went after being without water all weekend and they stated that the parts came in late and that they couldn't finish until Tuesday. I was extremely surprised when the plumber called me and said that he was finished after an hour. ONE hour of labor and a $500 tank cost me $1600. I believe their labor is $160/hr. I'll be posting the exact model number when I get home so everyone can see exactly how much they overcharged and actually just plain price gouged me. My fault for agreeing to the price but shame on Family Plumbing and Heating for not being more transparent with their pricing, not hitting promised deadlines and doubling or even tripling the price of parts when people are desperate, just want running water, and unnecessarily removing a part that was working but leaking a little to shut off water to the house for the whole weekend and putting us in a position where switching companies would have added to the time that we were without water and creating a desperate situation. I have cancelled my service contract with Family Plumbing and Heating and I'll be using J&P heating and cooling going forward. Hopefully this will save a few people from being ripped off.

WARNING: Family Plumbing are liars and have a reputation around the community for telling people…read moretheir furnaces have bad heat exchangers and they need new furnaces when in fact their furnaces are fine. The guys that come out for cleaning/maintenance are paid on commission and I've documented two of them lying to my face (as I found out later). ALWAYS get a second opinion before buying anything from them. Here's the story: I had them out twice for regular cleaning/maintenance appts (once for furnace and once for AC). The guy who came out for the furnace cleaning in winter 2022 said that I'll need to budget for a new furnace within the next few years because my heat exchanger is in bad shape and the inducer motor is loud and going to fail soon. Fast forward, and this Spring a different guy from the company came out to do my AC cleaning/maintenance appt. He looked at my furnace while here and told me that I definitely need a new furnace because the heat exchanger is bad. He told me it would cost $1-2K to fix it on top of the cost of the inducer motor so I might as well put that money towards a new furnace instead of repairing it. Not only that, he said that my AC unit needs replacing... but lucky me: they have a sale on where if you buy a furnace from them you get a free AC unit. I had another local HVAC company (JP Heating) look at my furnace the very next day and they told me that my furnace is 100% fine (heat exchanger and inducer motor) and has many years left. They said that even if the heat exchanger goes out eventually, not only is getting a new part free because it's under warranty still (just need to pay $75ish for shipping), but it would only cost about $300 (two hours of labor) for them to fix (1/6 the price Family Plumbing & Heating quoted me). A new inducer motor is only $200. There is absolutely no need for a new $7K furnace! JP Heating told me that they get calls weekly from folks in the community who were told by Family Plumbing & Heating that they have bad heat exchangers and need new furnaces, when in fact it's untrue. Family Plumbing is steeped in dishonesty, greed, and shameful malpractice. Avoid them like the plague and don't buy anything from them without getting a second opinion from another (reputable) HVAC company.

We are over 1000 miles away so had to remotely help the best we could. Maple woods heating answered the phone on the first ring and had Tom out to his house in less than one hour. I went a couple of months without heat during the coldest part of last winter ('23/'24) due to my boiler breaking down several times with different issues. I called several different companies to try to come out and get it fixed, but most were 2+ week lead times. My house had to be kept warm by the few space heaters I had. Then, I found Maple Wood Heating. They were extremely kind and bumped me up to the top of the priority list. They came out and looked at my boiler to diagnose the problem within 24 hours and was back with parts within 72 hours to fix the issue. Unfortunately, my boiler was just old and obsolete. They ended up having to come out a couple more times before recommending that I quit sinking money into my current system, as parts were expensive and difficult to find. I have had a couple of HVAC companies in the past tell me that my boiler could give out sooner than later due to the state of it, so I knew that they weren't trying to scam me by trying to get me to upgrade my system. I did know it was a major expense I was going to have to deal with at some point soon. Within a couple weeks of making the decision to upgrade, they had a new system installed. It's far quieter and gives me an entirely new room for space, as my other boiler was a big metal box in the middle of the floor in the utility room of the basement. Now, I have a sleek wall-mounted unit that doesn't take up floor space at all. I also had the 'hot water on demand' feature included, which means mostly unlimited hot water (as a household with only one bathroom, this is amazing). With that feature, along with the new boiler and installation, I thought that the pricing was very fair based on my research. They took away my old boiler and all associated parts/pieces and even swept the floor afterward. I was so grateful to have found this company and plan to use only them in the future. I'm a single mom who works 50+ hour weeks, so I really appreciated that they would just go take care of things while I was at work and communicated with me plenty along the way. I would highly recommend this company to anyone in need of HVAC services. You won't regret it.

I am going to copy and paste a letter I sent to the owner Dave. Of the list "most" got done and I went away. Didn't want to leave a negative review but this one is earned. The following spring my AC was inoperative so I called and the tech came right out. Diagnosed new compressor assembly, thousands, I said how much for whole system and waited for his estimate. Meanwhile I called another company out and the technician immediately found the chipmunks had chewed the wire on the outdoor compressor unit. 85.00 shame on the chipmunks. I was watching youtube and saw a Classic commercial and decided the review was in order. To:dtmasterplumber@yahoo.com Hello David you sent me a paid receipt for my new furnace so I assume you are the man.  Thank you for the paperwork. I have a couple issues.  After a couple days my ignitor shorted. Your technician came out timely, said it was pinched at factory need to order, tomorrow. ok.  I mentioned to your tech they left the old furnace in the crawlspace and he said he would pick it up upon part installation, ok.  Friday came and went no call, the furnace is working fine so ok. Today I went down to the crawlspace to put salt in the softener.  Let me list a couple of concerns: Take old furnace Light coming through wall where exhaust vented. Furnace water drain at foot of ladder the old drain went back behind the the ladder this furnace also seems to put out more H2O possibly a mud bog where I climb in to salt the softener. (not done) Never seen so much aluminum type tape verses sheet metal. If that's industry standard ok it seems solid and perhaps durable. Looks different. I don't know how important the cold air return is to this type of furnace but it could use a little more tape. At the bonnet in front a small gap does that make me at 92 percent? (not done) Clean the work area, you know broom clean. It can be saddening for the customer to walk into minor mess when cleaning it up takes so little effort.  Bad JU JU  Heck there's an apprentice on site. (kind of done) The pipe coming out of the roof or the floor in this case has been disconnected but still hanging down with small pile of sandy ash in the elbow.  I can certainly remove any troubling section in my life but when you went  out the wall not the roof (as the receipt indicates) I would  hope you will neaten and plug? As your technician was advising me to the furnace choices I asked if the 95 percent would waste enough heat to heat the crawlspace. I pointed out it was a long ways to the end of the crawlspace with bathroom plumbing at the end. He motioned he could cut a vent in the duct above where we sitting.  I reminded the helper about cutting the vent but perhaps it got lost in the heat of repair. I have installed temp sensors in the crawlspace and the vent may be critical. (Pity fully done) Is the intake just open? (still somewhat curious) Just moved in this home and getting familiar and ready for winter.  I am sure your tech can resolve these minor issues and if I only discussed them with him at ignitor installation the company owner may be unaware.  Your tech was polite straight forward, I fear for the training of the young man. He to is polite and has harvestable potential. I recently retired from business. Customer Satisfaction numbers affected profit by hundreds of thousands of dollars in corporate "kickbacks" then of course the real reason for our focus customer retention and word of mouth. What bothers me most is  I want my name attached to glowing reviews of Classic Plumbing and Heating and at this point not so much.  If I need it Help a Brother out David.
