I want to start by acknowledging that I have very mixed feelings with drafting this. My family has used Stewart's for a number of years and for multiple services. The service delivery has always been stellar. Where I do have a concern is with how the business operations and overall customer experience is handled. We are currently attempting to obtain documentation from them and a copy of a funeral bill and they are creating a number of challenges. We can appreciate the necessity of formal processes however, they do not provide details or specifics when asking for clarification. I am deeply disappointed with my experience with Stuart Funeral Home during one of the most painful moments of my life. I was told transportation would be sent to pick up my husband's body from the hospital. I later learned this did not happen because I was given conflicting information about when release paperwork needed to be signed. Twenty-four hours passed, and his body was still not picked up. During this stressful time, the customer service I received made the situation harder. I was spoken to in a dismissive tone and was told "it doesn't work like that," instead of receiving clear guidance or support. The consultant did not offer condolences, empathy, or patience. I felt blamed for their miscommunication and left feeling even more overwhelmed. Losing a loved one is painful. Families deserve compassion, accurate information, and respectful service. Because of the lack of care, confusion, and poor treatment, I made the decision to go elsewhere. I hope no other grieving family experiences what I did. read more

Absolutely the worst. Stewart serviced several of my family members over the years so I thought it would be sentimental for them to service my mother. Huge mistake. They didn't get her body when they said they would. They made us re-identify her weeks later when she had already been identified. They took one month to cremate her... Talk about traumatizing. Extremely disappointed in the service and care that we received from Stewart funeral home. 1. Their sound equipment is outdated. 2. Communication is poor ie. Ms. Percentie 3. They were supposed to submit our paperwork to the insurance company and forgot 4. Their markup for flowers is more than 50% - we ordered the exact same flowers that they were offer from Teleflora 5. If you don't ask they will not tell you that you are being a charged a percentage by a third party to use insurance money. You've been warned. read more

Unprofessional, unorganized and very rude. They need to learn how a service is ran from start to finish. I suggest observing other establishments to learn. They aren't prepared and the service this weekend was extremely chaotic. Very heartbreaking that they made the family stand against the wall or in the hall way because they didn't even reserve a section for them to sit but reserved themselves seats in the back and told us we can't sit there. I have only had to plan one funeral thank God but my experience with this business has left a bad impression. First of all the rep we met with left the company and neither she nor anyone from the company reached out to let us know or have the new person reach out and at the very least check make sure everything was in order. Second they could not find the dress we dropped off my mother-in-law to wear (they did eventually) but still.... Third the service chapel smelled so bad I didn't know how we were going to get through the service but I guess after a while and with all the people it kind of was less noticeable. The founder Mr. Stewart is probably turning over in his grave at the low level of service his company is now displaying. I called to get some information about pricing and arrangements. I had the displeasure of speaking with Mr. Dixon who was rude, impatient and non sympathetic. He didn't even give his condolences. I have used Stewart in the pass with minimal issues. This is a follow-up on my trying to get my brothers death certificate. He went to join the Lord on November 27, 2021. I have been calling twice monthly and then monthly to get my brothers death certificate and have been told someone will call when they get it. Today I call and was told they cannot speak to me because my name is not on the contract. So I do a conference call with my mother on the phone and some lady tell us we have to go to Vital Records; I then ask how do we get our $54.00 dollars back for the death certificates, she put me on hold and tell me the certificates are in the lobby for pick-up and that someone telephoned us back in November. I am so frustrated right now, months and months of untruths. i try my best to service black businesses but I lie to you not, it is hard. You have to go through so much. It is not worth it. read more

My family used Stewart Funeral Home to handle my grandfather's services just last month. We are from DC and grew up in the area. As a media professional, I can say that they are not equipped to hold a virtual funeral service and they are unfair. Our service had dark lighting, low audio and the presentation of our slideshow was off. They did not deliver as promised. We requested fair service there since the quality was poor. They reneged on their word in providing our refund for virtual services. I had to go and edit my own grandfather's funeral. Poor Quality and Poor Service. read more

I called Stewart Funeral Home to find out about my loved ones death certificate ,and was told someone would call me when the certificate come in. She stated it takes 4-6 weeks. I also asked did the Funeral Home have obituaries on their site and was told no they did not. I proceeded to check, and I found a list of obituaries, so I called back to tell the misinformed lady that indeed this establishment does have a list. She was so short with me, that I decided to write this on Yelp. Please train your employees, if you don't know, say so or ask someone. Do not give out misinformation. I was trying to help you become more efficient in your job. This will also help you with your future endeavors. read more

Very upset with the level of professionalism and client relations. The guy Brian there was completely rude and disrespectful. The limos were out dated and over priced. My mother and I paid years in advance for her funeral but the day before her funeral was set up for her previewing. Imagine being led into a room and not seeing your mother. I and other family members asked to see the mortician and a very young woman came to us. I asked her where was my mother and she told me the person in the casket was my mother. She showed us the toe tag which had my mother's name on it. We could not believe that was actually my mother. My mother was a light pecan brown complexion woman. My mother in that casket was very dark bordering on black. Her facial features had a very small pinched nose, nothing about the face looked like my mother. The next day was the funeral and not one family member recognized my mother, not one. An older man mortician and the young woman came to us, at our request, as more family members voiced their opinion about the way she looked. He was uncaring, unconcerned and arrogant like this is it, this is what you got. They even called me to tell me my mother was too big for the casket she ordered. My mother was much heavier when we picked it out than when she died by about 40 lbs. So a new one had to be ordered without the lining requested by my mother or I would have to pay for the larger one with lining. The new casket was not larger than the one she wanted. More money or they just didn't have hers anymore. Stewart did that nightmare to us. Next, $50 for the death certificate! They are not professional and care for nothing except making that buck. I still have not received a return call to my messages or an apology. Good thing they are not the only funeral home in the area. read more

RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNRELIABLE. Wish I could give ZERO stars. They have the name on my brothers' death certificate wrong. They even got my parents name wrong. They took forever to arrange cremation. There was no communication among staff. Each person said something different and they kept putting you on to someone different. I got the feeling that they did not know what they were talking about. One person said the cremation was done and another said it was not done. One person said the urn was ready for pickup and another person said it was not. It's been months and we are still waiting for the corrected name on the death certificate which they seem to be giving us the run around. No accountability. They have added an additional level of stress which made the loss of our loved one even worse. I wonder if it is really my brothers' remains that's actually inside the urn. They are inept, unprofessional, and arrogant, resting on their long history in Washington DC. They totally mishandled my son's cremains in 2006, and then with my father's funeral arrangements, they totally messed up his obituary when he passed in 2007 so there was no way I would ever recommend them to anyone and did my best to steer my brothers away for my mother's recent funeral arrangements. But they refused to listen. After a mandatory autopsy, Stewart neglected to inform us they had her remains which we were waiting for; and failed to confirm the spelling of her name and the correct one to use, making it impossible to locate her obituary, especially on legacy.com, which I had to later correct through Legacy directly. read more

I attended a burial service held at Cheltanham Military Cemetery. The priest was not able to attend, unexpectedly. The representative from Stewart stepped in and performed the brief burial service. He showed such care and dignity. My understanding is the family was completely satisfied with the services Steward Funeral Home provided. read more

I was completely happy with the arrangements made for my mother. Everyone was kind and met my family's needs. Mr. Little was very helpful and lead me through the process. He did not try to see me more than what was needed, but much more respected what our family wanted. read more

The WORST funeral home ever to do business with. During our appointment we were told we would get updates for a cremation we also asked if we could do a memorial service before cremation. We were told yes by a lady we had the appointment with. 3 weeks later and no phone calls. I decide to call and ask when the body will be ready. Mr Stewart answers and says the body is already cremated and ready for pick up. According to him the body was waaaay to decomposed for identifying the body. Which didnt make sense since the body was at the medical examiners office for 2months. We call to try and confirm mr stewart response and come to find out the body was indeed able to be viewed and was not decomposed how stewart explained it was. I would not do business with this funeral home ever and would not recommend them to anyone. They got the check and did what they wanted to do. Never a update nor did we get anything we asked for before the body was cremated. Mr Stewart is a Liar and his employees that set appointments are as well.
