I had the pork gyoza and the garlic tonkotsu ramen. It's a solid 10/10 from the eggs to the noodles! However, it's a bit saltier than I prefer. I wish it weren't so salty. That's just a personal preference. You can sit anywhere you like in this welcoming food court. read more

Anyone who knows me knows that Sticks & Spoons is one of my favorite restaurants from the first time I had their ramen when they were located in Lamplighter to the hiatus that almost drove me mad, I am certainly obsessed with their dishes, I am so proud to watch them expand their menu and as long as they keep their braised mushrooms and jammy eggs they will forever have me as their proudest customer! They are family run and the pride they have in their shop always puts a smile on my face. The food is well worth the wait and will always leave you coming back for more. Sticks & Spoons Ramen Bar has recently moved to the Roanoke City Market Building, where they are located along with 8 other restaurants. Yet the first time I went to eat there and review it, they were closed and had a sign on the door that they had ran out of food and would be open again the following day. And today, it is the most busy out of the 9 restaurants. The Roanoke City Market Building houses 9 restaurants on its first floor. Just like a Food Court of a Modern Mall, there is a common area in the middle with tables and chairs for people to sit and enjoy their food, after they pick it up at the counter of the restaurant where it came from. Some of the restaurants here have also a sitting area of their own that is either enclosed or lead to the outside, so customers can enjoy dining there during good weather. Sticks & Spoons Ramen Bar is literally just a whole in the wall with a counter and the kitchen on the other side. One orders the food and pays in front of this counter, is given a beeper so they can hang out in the building and find a table to sit, while their food is being prepared, and then go pick it up as soon as the beeper starts to blink and shake. I will admit I'm still a beginner in Ramen cuisine, but I know and appreciate good food when I taste it. The owner / chef warmly greeted me behind the counter, handed me a copy of the menu, and explained it to me, answering any questions that I had about it. He is the son of Japanese immigrants, born and educated here America, I ended up ordering an order of Crispy Pork Gyoza, filled with pork and chives, fried crispy and topped with scallions, sesame seeds & Yin-Yang sauce. And as the main Ramen entrée, I ordered the Tonkotsu, which had a richer and creamier Broth. And you can read about the other ingredients in my photograph of the menu. At first I stayed there watching him cooking and observing other customers coming by ordering food to eat there or to take out. Then as I was going to find a table to sit at, my beeper began to shake and I went to pick up my order and take it with me to one of the tables in the center of the City Market. The Crispy Pork Gyoza appetizer was amazingly delicious. So Crispy on the outside and soft in the inside and tasty all over. And the Ramen Tonkotsu was absolutely amazing. One of the best if not the best I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant to all of you lovers of Ramen and if you aren't yet, just try it, and you will become one. read more

I will never be the same again. I live 2 hours away from Roanoke and I always make sure to stop by Sticks and Spoons! It's in the little market square - slightly difficult to find if you are following a GPS to find the door. Tucked right in behind The Hibachi Guys. Plenty of seating. Open floor plan. Two story seating. The service is always amazing and he explains the menu very well. We both ordered Tonkotsu and it is TO DIE FOR. I literally think about it multiple times a week. I think I ascended. New favorite takeout spot in Roanoke--no question. I ordered the Okonomiyaki with a fried egg and the Loco Moco because I clearly have no self-control and questionable decision-making skills when I'm hungry. Worth it. The Okonomiyaki? A crispy, savory pancake sent straight from the gods, topped with that golden fried egg like a crown of glory. The Loco Moco? Oh, just a glorious meat-and-rice fever dream smothered in gravy, aka my new comfort food soulmate. Did I finish it all? No. I ate about 1/4 of the Loco Moco before slipping into a deeply spiritual food coma on my couch. I may or may not be typing this from another plane of existence. Is this reality? A dream? Sticks & Spoons Ramen Bar's new location in Market Square in downtown Roanoke, VA still has all of the magic that the previous location had and then some. I think they have become faster and more efficient with this recent relocation of the restaurant. The staff were friendly as always and they were fast at serving our ramen. The classics are as savory as always, but I get really excited about their new creations. This past Friday night I ordered their featured New Yorker Ramen, which had kimchi and pastrami in it. Talk about mind being blown! The kimchi gave the delicious pickled flavor that works in the same way that sauerkraut does on a New York style deli sandwich. The pastrami was thick and tender while serving as a great proxy for a ramen protein like pork belly. The chef clearly knew what would work well when this dish was created. I would order their New Yorker agin in a heartbeat. I honestly can't wait to return for more of the best ramen in Roanoke at Sticks & Spoons. read more

Finally got to order from here after they moved to downtown Roanoke. Ordered online which was pretty straightforward, food was ready when I got there. I was late picking up because of trying to find parking but it was still nice and hot and delicious. This was also my first time actually going inside the market building, they are tucked behind the Hibachi Guys stall. There's plenty of seating both up and downstairs in the building if you wanted to eat there. It was pretty noisy being lunchtime during the week but the upstairs seemed to have less people and was more quiet. We got: Tonkotsu ramen Takoyaki Pork Gyoza KimPopperz Chilled Noodz (cold ramen) And the day's special Okonomiyaki Everything was very flavorful. Everything that was fried was nice and crispy and not overcooked. Ramen broth was perfectly creamy and since it's takeout they pack the noodles separate above the soup so that they don't get soggy. My only tiny nitpick/personal preference was the Chilled Noodz had just a little too much sauce for the amount of noodles for a cold dish. I felt like I was having to wipe sauce off my face after every bite (but still really tasty and I finished every single noodle!) I would absolutely order from here again and look forward to the different specials they have. No pics of the ramen or takoyaki because my husband devoured them right away. read more

This was the best Ramen I've ever had in my life. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and the broth could have been a meal in itself. Rich, thick flavorful - - possibly the best broth I've ever had anywhere. But then I tried the pork. To. Die. For. It's the first time I've ever had Ramen and the noodles weren't my favorite part - - and I really love noodles. My daughter, who had actually ordered some delicious tacos in the same city market area, loved Her bites of my food so much that she wanted to get some to take back to school with her. Unfortunately, the owner had just closed up shop. Super friendly owner, absolutely delicious meal. I wish we lived closer.. But we'll go out of our way to go to Roanoke just for Tonkatsu Ramen again! read more

Absolutely amazing vegetarian Ramen. It tasted really good with the perfect amount of spiciness and flavor. Fairly big bowl. Restaurant is one of many inside a small mall/cafeteria, with metal tables. Very spacious. Decent timing on food service, and the Asian man working there was very courteous. read more

We were fans of Sticks & Spoons at their Williamson Road location but had not tried them since they have relocated to the Market Building. We are still fans! I had the Tonkotsu Ramen and it was wonderful. The noodles are top notch. The patain broth is delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection. Excellent authentic ramen. read more
