Always stop here for dinner when in Lynchburg, but never again. Ordered the filet mingnon hibachi and received it luke warm, with maybe 5 or 6 tiny cubes of meat and enormous carrot pieces as filler for the lack of meat. Waitress with nose rings was boarder line rude and the hostess seemed to be having a bad day, maybe from all the dirty tables needing to be bussed. The customer service was awful. I came in to order a togo on Saturday night December 20, 2025. I asked for a takeout menu and the lady left the register to find one but after a few minutes did not return so I just looked at the main menu. I sat at a nearby table to open the menu and the lady kept giving me nasty looks so I decided to leave and come back when I decided. I came back 5 minutes later to order and stood at the register with a paying customer behind me who wanted to leave and she never acknowledged me or him but kept seating people who came in after me. I look at the gentleman behind me and said what is going on why is she ignoring us and he said I have no idea. So I had to leave. She could of at least said I will be with you in a minute. I give it a solid three. The staff was super nice, the place was very cute and clean. The sushi was just ok. It wasn't bad it wasn't great. I had the double spicy roll, there were eight generous pieces, it was tasty, but it had a mushy mouth feel. It just seemed too soft. I can't explain it. But I'm from Orlando, Florida where you can't turn the corner without bumping into a sushi place, so it's not like I'm new to the scene. We also ordered kung pao chicken, a dish that I'm also very familiar with. And it was okay as well. The chicken was over fried just a bit. Tough on the outside. The sauce was good, but was missing something. The veggies were fresh. The fried rice was pretty plain. A smidgen of egg and some oil (not sesame) is all that made it special. Ordered to go. Ordered a Rainbow Roll. Spicey tuna, salmon and California for a total of $37 and some change seemed reasonable. But when we opened it at home the rolls were tiny, they looked like 1/2 the size of other sushi we have ordered. We have eaten in the restaurant and this did not happen my recommendation is do not order to go. All rolls including the rainbow were in a 5"x8.5" container with wasabi and ginger. In a normal place the rainbow roll would have taken up that container. The quality was good but they cheat you on the amount when you pick up. read more

I love ramen but was curious if Lynchburg had good sushi. Eating sushi outside of large metropolitan cities can be risky but I was willing to give it a try. We got there around 1 pm just after the lunch rush and ordered the sushi lunch specials: 5 piece sushi, a California Roll, and a choice of soup or salad for $9.95. I chose the soup, expecting a bowl of miso but it was wonton soup. I didn't mind because I like wonton soup. The soup had two thick wontons filled with pork sausage and a ginger broth. The restaurant makes its own wontons so everything was fresh. I liked the broth and wrappers but wasn't a fan of the pork sausage. I prefer ground pork. The sushi lunch special included 2 pieces of salmon, 1 piece of tuna, 1 piece of red snapper, and 1 piece of white tuna. White tuna isn't a thing and sometimes restaurants use escolar which gives you explosive diarrhea, I asked to switch out the white tuna for yellowtail. The sushi was tasty but very thinly sliced and smaller portions than I'm used to. But for less than $10 for 5 pieces, it's a decent bargain. read more

Came here with a group of friends and have been slowly exploring the menu here to make a valid review. The sushi here is alright but honestly the quality of sushi is nothing to write home about. It is adequate but not phenomenal. The pricing however is questionable. With prices like these you would expect either something much bigger or higher quality. At the end of the day this establishment could not compensate in either area. I got the Aji roll which was covered in seaweed salad and painfully small. It was fine but a price tag of 12 dollars seemed a bit high for what was received. The service was prompt but the seating towards the window is a bit awkwardly shoved in there so the server had a hard time serving us our food. The business should consider revamping this layout. The cheese wontons were great but seeing as how the business name has Ramen and Sushi in it one would expect either of these things to be phenomenal but much like a gyro and pizza place, this business has simply OK of both ramen and sushi. read more

This restaurant does an amazing amount of carry out business with people coming and going regularly. When I eat there, I often get garlic broccoli, which has been one of my favorite Chinese dishes for a long time. They also have a very good selection of sushi. Every downtown needs a Chinese restaurant and this is the Chinese restaurant for downtown Lynchburg these days. They do also have sweet tea because they recognize that they are in the south! They were also one of the first places downtown that had bubble tea available. My daughter was always looking for that and occasionally she made me drive her across town to get some. Then she went away to college right when this place appeared with bubble tea just a block away from my Downtown home. Oh well. read more

First time ordering from Aji. Definitely recommend. Takeout order: Maki Roll Lunch Special (pick 3 rolls) choice of soup or salad $11 - chose Spicy Salmon, Spicy Tuna, and Alaskan. Pork Katsu Ramen $10, and Chicken Udon $8. The nori in the maki rolls was a bit tough and chewy, and the spicy rolls could've been spicier, but they were good. Requested extra dressing for the salad, and was accommodated. Many Japanese restaurants just use lettuce greens for their salad, but Aji also adds cucumber and grape tomato, which I appreciated. I remember coming here a couple years ago and ordering ramen and it was super delicious and I asked for it very spicy. It seemed to be just what I needed in Lynchburg for good ramen. I just brought my date here tonight and I was very underwhelmed. The ramen broth I got was watery, like the other reviews, seemed like a step below top ramen. From other places I've been In other parts of the country ramen is always judged on their broth. Tonight's was horrible. The meat was fried, undercooked, and was almost like Walmart Tyson chicken fingers. As other reviews said the half of egg was hard boiled, no liquid in the yolk. The noodles weren't that tender or juicy as well. My date got a couple sushi rolls which were okay but I went there for the ramen so tonight I was disappointed. The waitress was nice as was the rest of the staff, so I'd give this three stars, but for the price of the ramen being very high, the inadequacy of it lowers this review to 2 stars. read more

I'm pretty glad that LYH finally has a shop that is specifically toting itself as a ramen shop. It's been a missing link in the food chain here in downtown, and each time I've been to Aji I've been relatively pleased. I've had the cha-shu, pork katsu, and a bit the spicy miso ramens here, and each of them is well-portioned and contains good flavor. The noodles do not feel freshly made (though I could be mistaken), and the broths are good. The toppings are classic and the meats are pretty well cooked across the board, my favorite being the cha-shu. The katsu doesn't hold up well in the broth--ends up a little chewy and soggy. But again, the portions are very good and I always leave feeling full, even if left a little wanting for depth of flavor. The sushi I have had here is also pretty decent, and the pad thai is very good. That is a huge benefit of this place--though they tout as a specifically ramen and sushi place, they have a variety of Chinese, Japanese and Thai options that prove to be very good. With the plentiful seating, calm atmosphere, and a wide variety of good food, Aji is a place I'll definitely come back to. read more

Upon coming in a bit before 3, I was hopeful to get lunch. After waiting awhile for the waitress it was then 3:01. Asked if I could get lunch and she said no. Already was not impressed, especially with no apology for taking so long. I then asked for a few more minutes to order and it took a very long time for her to come back. After finally getting the food, the sushi tasted like it came from Kroger and the general tso chicken tasted sweet and was not hot. None of the food was hot or even warm. Even the rice was cold. I was not checked on afterwards at all. Also, the bathroom is quite confusing to find with no signs aside from the code for it that is outside their restaurant. Had a late lunch there around a week ago and for our first trip my girlfriend and I were pleased with the decision. Overall the restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and prompt. The menu features many different dishes so there's something for everyone I had the lunch special sesame chicken ($7.99) and my lady had 3 sushi rolls ($10.99). The sesame chicken was very good, perfect amount of crisp without too much sauce and the fried rice with egg and onions was perfect. The portion was large for a lunch order leaving me with a generous amount of leftovers. My side salad was decent, nothing to write home about but then again I'm mostly interested in the entree. My girlfriend enjoyed the sushi, not as good as Koto's while being better than other options in the area. The portion of fish was more than she expected and the three rolls was the perfect amount for lunch. The mushroom soup was excellent and came as a surprise, as most local places treat it like an afterthought with watered down flavor. I judge most places but how well they do a spicy tuna roll, is it tuna simply with spicy sauce or minced tuna with the spices included in the roll? Cheap places do the former, real places do the latter. This place is real. Service fast and order correct. I had the cutest server. It was his first week but he was so attentive. Cons: Mainly, the vibe. I came here at night bc I had a sushi craving and I was downtown. Though the night was warm and comfortable. It was freezing inside, (my server said this was uncommon that usually it's hot.) It was BRIGHT in there. Literally, over 25 lights in dining eating space and all of them are full brightness! It would be nice if they dimmed some of them. Maybe play some ambient or chill instrumentals ("Buddha Bar" or "Chill Beats to Study To" I would suggest). It was completely bright and completely quiet. Also, the Ramen is not good. If you've never had Ramen before you may not mind but for those who know, (ex: the bone broth is supposed to be creamy, not clear) you'll be disappointed. I walked in and there were many seats open and the server named Gwyneth or Maria walked right past me so I went to the cashier to be seated and he did, then she comes to my table which I'm already sitting at, and she asks me if I'm dining in twice, and I responded yes. Then rudely she says alright... I order she serves me then kept starring at me from the cash register. While writing this review I asked to confirm that her name is Gwyneth like the ticket says then she says no it's Maria. Either way I will probably not be returning, not because of the food but because of feeling discriminated and feeling judged for being a young black woman. Quite a disheartening experience.
