My wife and I recently decided to lead healthier lifestyles by making improvements in the foods we eat and incorporating more exercise into our daily lives. In terms of exercise, for starters, we both began to walk more. In addition, my wife wanted to begin yoga classes. We were on our way to Whole Foods two Sundays ago, when my wife said she wanted to visit a yoga studio close by. We went upstairs and opened the door, and we saw that a class was in session, so I closed the door, but the instructor came out and asking, "May I help you?" I replied that my wife was interested in starting yoga classes, to which he responded that we could go to their website to learn more, or if we came back in 30 minutes, he would talk to us. Understandably there was no reception area for people to inquire and the instructor was busy conducting a class. However, to be honest, I still felt turned off by this. We continued on our way to do our shopping but I also did a brief search on Yelp for a nearby yoga studio. Still & Moving Center came up and so after we had finished shopping, I suggested to my wife that we take a short detour to check them out. We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised when we entered and saw a reception area, with a person behind the desk, on a Sunday! Skyler was very helpful and encouraging in answering our questions. She seemed to genuinely care. We ended up signing my wife up for the Kamaaina Intro Special, one month of unlimited classes for $59. My wife is making good use of this special, taking different yoga classes and even tai chi chuan. She has been enjoying her classes so much that yesterday, I went ahead and enrolled her in the Unlimited Membership, to begin after the intro special expires. In addition to yoga and tai chi, they offer hula, belly dance, pilates, ukulele, and other classes. They also have fitness-related merchandise for sale and an in-house coffee shop. https://www.facebook.com/groups/hawaiiworld/permalink/310111178351378/?mibextid=oMANbw

The still & moving choir!

The most incredible community space in honolulu! A place to move, to laugh, to connect and discover the joy of movement and music that is inside each of us. I am so so sooooooo grateful and happy that I found the Still & Moving Center!

We have been going to classes at Still & Moving Center for many years. It all started when the center opened with Bollywood classes with the incredible Willow Chang and now my kiddo regularly attends Ms. Katherine Hearts youth aerial classes, workshops and camps. We are so delighted that Still & Moving Center brought back summer camps this year. My child loves coming here and this is such a great way for her to make new friends, have a creative outlet, stay in shape and have a healthy outlet for stress. I can't say enough good things and highly recommend the classes for youth and adults.

I came here for a Yelp Fit Event for Aerial Yoga and it definitely was a perfect event for me who practices yoga 2x-3x a week and is looking for a different fitness class for variety. Instructions from Kendra was clear and poses and positions were easy enough to do even without assistance. Lianne was there to help anyone who needed help. I assume it was easy because it was an intro class where she made sure we were comfortable with it before we started doing pigeon, plank, dolphin or downward dog with one foot, or even two in it. By the time it was time to go upside down near the end, I'm like, "Sure" without thinking, "what am I, a bat"? Thank goodness, I didn't have lunch before class. Savasana inside the hammock was a relaxing and perfect way to end the class. The place itself is very nice and clean and they host a wide variety of classes and workshops, not just Aerial yoga. They also have yoga, hula, pilates, martial arts, dance and more. They have class prices and memberships in their brochure (I'll post a pic) and the website. There is limited parking in front but you can park at Whole Foods and grab something to eat there after class. I will definitely come back to take some classes, hopefully to help deepen my yoga practice.

Happy 7th reBirthday! This is a great center to learn many diverse dances and exercise techniques to enhance your mind, body, and soul. I'm always impressed when I visit of the diverse cultural classes they offer! What? Bollywood? Yup!...Aerial yoga?! What? Yup!.... Feldenkrais? What's that?! Yup! That's offered too! Try something new here and you may find yourself trying all the classes in no time.

Today is my birthday and I decided to end my day with an aerial yoga class at Still & Moving Center! I love new adventures as I feel this helps to keep me young! I've taken aerial yoga a few times at different studios, but it's been awhile. I checked in with a very nice front desk receptionist and went upstairs to class. I completely didn't read the class description properly and upon arrival realized that I was not actually taking aerial yoga, but instead a silks class where you learn different footholds and positions. Totally cool but a seriously difficult workout! I learned a bunch of new things I'd never tried before and broke out into a sweat trying each new position. Just learning how to wrap the silks around my foot literally made my brain hurt. It was like doing complex math for an hour! The instructor remarked that my body would hurt for the next few days and boy, do I believe her! I decided the take the next class which was an actual aerial yoga class. I double checked lol! This was totally what the doctor ordered as it was the perfect way to stretch out my body after using all the muscles I rarely engage in my regular gym and yoga practice. Chris was my instructor and I absolutely loved his clear instructions, warmth and positivity! The class went by so quickly that I wished it was 90 minutes instead of 60. The stretching was AMAZING and as I enveloped myself in the silk hammock for savasannah I knew this was the perfect way to start my next year around the sun! Totally looking forward to taking BOTH aerial classes in the future and challenging my body to always try new things and have fun!

I never intended to take Belly Dance class, but when I saw his performance last year, I was mesmerized and spellbound. His dancers were also elegant and they seemed to be laughing and having so fun that I knew that he would be my teacher too one day. I have been committed to dancing with him and going to class almost 3 times a week now since last April 2018. I have to say in my 10 + months of being his student, he has been extremely kind, compassionate, understanding, and a lot of fun. He is fair and always encouraging, even for many of his beginner students who cannot do the moves perfectly. He even has a dance group where he welcomes anyone who has a heart and passion to dance Turkish style belly dance, so he does not discriminate against beginners like me. The reason why I am so obsessed with his belly dance class is because it is so difficult and advanced yet still challenging and fun. Everybody always gets a great cardio workout and I'm always sweating within 10 minutes. For those students who cannot do the moves, he Encourages us to try and take our time and not rush the process of learning. He always tells us that it takes years to develop and master certain basic foundational skills. I think he says that so that we don't get discouraged and feel bad. He looks extremely professional and elegant with much technical finesse. He also teaches Pilates and Foam Rolling class at the Still And Moving Center, and has many private students there, who apparently also can't get enough of him and his great energy. He explained to me one time that through his dance, he is sharing his light energy into his classes for the students to feel joy and uplifted. That I believe he does.

Easy to see from the outside!

I always look forward to the Yelp Fit Club at the beginning of the year! So when I saw Aerial Yoga was being offered at the Still & Moving Center, I quickly jumped in to RSVP. I tried Aerial Silks at a prior Yelp Fit Club event and it was way too difficult and left me feeling discouraged. I was hoping the Aerial Yoga class would be more my speed. The class was a perfect size- limited to 10 participants. On Saturday, I got to the lot about 10 minutes before 1:00pm, but it was full. I ended up parking at the Ward Village Whole Foods lot which was right across the street. After checking in, there's a space to remove your shoes and wait in the comfortable seating area. There is a bathroom which is very clean and shower rooms as well. We were led upstairs where the space was very open and clean. Kendra was our teacher for this event/class which started at 1:30pm. The silks were already set up at various heights. Kendra informed us that the bottom of the silk should line up to about your hip. There were mats available which we were able to set up under our silk. Kendra was very informative and friendly. Lianne also was present to assist. I felt very comfortable right from the start! I consider myself a yoga newbie, and have taken a handful of classes, but mostly practice on my own. I know a lot of the basic poses and felt like this class was perfect for beginners! I was comfortable challenging myself and also thrilled that I could do a lot more moves with the support of the silk. The fun part was being able to go upside down! It was a bit scary for me at first, but Lianne was super helpful and encouraging and helped me to get there! I was surprised at how much easier it was than doing certain poses on your own! The best part was towards the end when we got to go into the silk hammock like a caterpillar in a cocoon. It felt so comfortable and relaxing! I definitely got a good workout because I had the body aches the next day! So far this has been my most favorite style of yoga class and I would highly recommend it! As of this date, an Aerial Drop In class Online price is $21. There is a Kamaaina special of $49 for three classes. The prices are reasonable for the experience you receive. I felt really good taking this class. Kudos to Kendra, Lianne and the Still & Moving Center! Huge thank you to Emi and the Yelp Fit Club for putting this together. It's great to try new things. I look forward to my next Aerial Yoga adventure!

My 2nd week of class. Beauty disguises the pain!

Life is short. Take more dance classes. I practice aerial dance here and I always walk away with sore arms, cramped hands and a happy soul. All of my teachers have been inspiring, strong and supportive. I just can't get enough practice and to fulfill that need, they just started offering open aerial gym time to give all us students time to climb those silks. BONUS: They offer work-trade for classes. I clean the studio for 90 minutes & get a credit for an aerial class. Not only do I get to practice, but I also get to serve the studio--a satisfying combo. Take a class today.

Serene reception, lobby and fab shopping!

The moment I stepped into this glorious space, I felt overwhelmed with Aloha! What lovely teachers, what a beautiful, beautiful center and so many amazing movement forms to explore! My husband and I signed up for the 1 month unlimited class (2 person family) while on our annual Hawaiian vacation and so far we've danced lots of Nia with Renee, Krista & Goldyn, explored Aerial Yoga with gorgeous Wendi, Improv Comedy with Genie and got hooked on Feldenkrais with Eve. And there's so much more we want to do - Aikido with a 6th degree Aikido Black Belt Master, Tai Chi, Hula, Meditation... The teachers have been so welcoming and my husband and I cannot believe the degree of skill they all have. We have enjoyed throughly each and every one of our classes. After class, shower and change at the Center's luxurious bathrooms where only the best organic amenities are provided. Nice! Feeling peckish? There's healthy beverages and light refreshments on sale for a small price. Every so often the Center hosts special workshops and events. I can't wait to attend recording artist's Mihana Souza's Learn Family Hula and Concert on Nov 18th! She is a legend! If you're looking for somewhere to connect to mind, body and spirit, where everyone is welcomed equally, this is the place. The location of the Center cannot be beat. There's plenty of parking across the street at Nordstrom's Rack. I'm so grateful I've discovered this Center. Treat yourself to a class if you haven't yet been here. First class, after all is free! Mahalo everyone at Still and Moving Center! I'm a huge fan!

It is a total body workout which includes brief stretching before transitioning to the next muscle group. I love how Sweat+Soul barre really targets the smaller muscles to help me feel strong and toned. I can attest that the workouts WILL stay challenging, even after working out here several times per week for years. Instead of getting "easier" with time, your form will slowly improve (which I think also helps to improve your posture!). If it's starting to feel easy, you're not properly engaging your muscles :) The teachers and the owner are all so friendly and know how to kick your ass in the best way. I also love how CLEAN it feels in the studio. Pretty much all other fitness studios I've tried out feel noticeably grosser compared to here. (I can understand that it's also probably due to the nature of the workout for other studios though.) The studio recently moved to Ward Village Center (Genki sushi, Kids City, etc.), on the side of the structure where Roger Dunn Golf is located. This new location doesn't have a water refill station yet, so be sure to fill up your flask before heading here.

After trying different workouts, I realized I needed something that would help me sweat while also stretching and opening up my body. I signed up in January 2025, and by April, I was pregnant! I truly believe the consistency here helped prep my body for that transition. Here is why I've stuck with them: The Vibe: It's incredibly chill and welcoming. The instructors are relatable and down-to-earth, not intimidating at all. Variety & Convenience: I love the range of classes (even the cycling/spin classes are fantastic!) and having multiple locations close to home made it easy to stay committed. Affordability: The pricing is very reasonable for the quality of instruction you receive. Yoga through Pregnancy & Postpartum: Continuing my practice during pregnancy was a lifesaver. It helped open up my hips and relieved those inevitable achy spots. I honestly felt that yoga prepped my body for the physical intensity of birthing. I was back in the studio just two weeks after giving birth because I knew my body needed help recovering--specifically in my pelvis, hips, and lower back. Now that I'm nursing and pumping, the classes are essential for opening up my chest and upper back. If you're looking for a studio that supports you through every season of life, this is it!

I have practiced yoga with hundreds of instructors and Murti Howard and Larina Hawkins are my…read morefavorite. Although only a minor reason why you should continue your yoga practice here, the fact that the first three classes are free is kickass cool. The duo teach hatha yoga five days a week in a breezy, open-air classroom at the Waikiki Community Center. Parking is free at the center (enter from the Liliuokalani side of the block, not the Paoakalani side of the block). The entire second-floor classroom floor is covered with a thick spongy surface that you can put your yoga mat or or borrow one of the ones Murti or Larina provide. There is very little chance of slipping or hurting yourself. Maha Fusion also provides straps and blocks, which they use in every class to support good form. The class is gentle, restorative, and yet designed with pose progression such that even students who have been practicing for decades will find their edge of challenge. Murti's yoga heritage goes back to Rodney Yee, whom I believe is a master of restorative, restful poses, but Murti also folds in traditions of ashtanga, a more acrobatic and spectacular yoga practice. We also use methods employed by those who practice kundalini yoga, micro yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar yoga and vinyasa yoga. Murti is an avid read in yoga theory and makes his students well aware of the vast survey of yoga teaching through commentaries and the sutras. Go Rumi! Larina is a dancing yogini! Larina teaches classes in conjunction with Murti, and usually heads up the Saturday class. Her hatha-based practice folds in elements of ecstatic dance. Students in her class will find themselves moving about the classroom in addition to engaging in a challenging vinyasa flow. Larina has a very healing and gentle spirit about her and the sharpest eye when it comes to adjusting students' form. With the slightest touch or brush of her fingertips she will have you executing poses with the accuracy. What I love the most about this practice is the flexibility is brings to my own practice. I am an athlete and strong and experienced in practice, yet there are days when my body, like anyone's is not having it, has had it, and does not want me to be there. Those are the days that I am thankful I practice with these two. I am never made aware that I suck that day and never am I guilted into going beyond what I should be doing that day. Larina and Murti break down each pose is broken down into krama or various expressions of a pose, from the slightest expression of a pose to its grand finale, and each student is invited to find a variation of the pose that suits them that day. There are some days when I am a full wheel and some days I am a man on his back with just his hips raised off the floor a little. The students in the classes range from 30-something to 70-somethings, from surfers and athletes to grandmas and grampas. The rapport between students is remarkable, and is probably due to the fact that in every practice the students engage in partner yoga whereby they assist one another in obtaining the proper form or in engaging in more challenging poses with the support of another person. It is common to for students at the center to greet one another with hugs and kisses on the cheek. At least several times a year there are vegetarian potlucks after classes on Sunday where students catch up, and every month there is a meditation group held at the beach. In sum, Murti and Larina have created a yoga community. I recommend practice at Maha Fusion very much for the novice practitioner and those who have been practicing for a long time.
