Yes - like many here have already written - following through on commitments is not their strong suit at all. Orders have been misplaced, only partially filled, "forgotten" and it is never their fault. I have never received an apology. Not even an explanation - more like something between a justification and a finger pointed at me for expecting them to provide basic customer service like filling an order. At Thanksgiving, the line was ffilled with people who were "returning to get my X because you didn't include it when I picked up my pre-order." I buy from them at the Farmer's Market but if I need to order something, I am going back to using Savenor's for: quality, reliability, their initiative in asking about and fulfilling any specifications and my ability to get cuts that match enough to be cooked together. read more

Real nice bacon we got from the store. Local grass-fed meat here. I really wanted to come here to get a lamb roast but they ran out that's how popular this place is. I do plan on coming back to get some more me if I come to Worcester by the look like a lot of the stuff was sold out. The bacon was delicious. read more

All, Please be careful when purchasing from this farm. Unfortunately I would give 0 stars or negative if it was possible. I ordered a 1/4 cow and 1/2 pig. When the order arrived some cuts weren't frozen. I called the farm and they assured me that was normal because some cuts were special and packed the day of shipping but none had a pack date the same as the ship date. All items tried were rotten. The ground beef was all sour tasting. The sausages and pork chops had the same sour taste. I called and they said I needed to remove the meat from the package, wash it, then defrost in the fridge. I did and it was still sour. I took pictures and needed to send all to Ashley. They determined I would be credited for all ground beef, sausages, ground pork, and pork chops. They said they would continue to work with me and to try other cuts and take pictures and send them for credits as needed. I continued to try cuts and they were all bad. I asked them to have them independently tested. That is when they said to bring it all back there for a refund and inspection. On arrival to the farm on 04AUG Ashley stated they would be crediting me for the rest of the order. So I gave them a list of what remained and what was returned for inspection. A few weeks went by with no credit. I emailed and called. Finally Kate processed 2 additional credits all at different prices per pound then the prior refund. She stated many items were freezer burnt which they were no different then how I recieved them. Perhaps they defrosted some when driving it back down from NH to MA. But both of my freezers maintain temperature and I have never had items go bad or freezer brunt from other farms. I have been buying shares for at least a decade. Something with their meat is terribly wrong. All different animals, packing dates, etc. But they all have the same weird flavor in both the beef and pork (all cuts). Buyer beware. Kate's accounting forms for the credits are included in the pictures showing the discrepancies in cost per pound. Most of the meat was not edible. I am still out over $1200 dollars. I am hopeful they will standby their word and credit the full amount and I don't need to go to small claims court. I will update this review as things progress. read more

This butcher shop is the bricks and mortar location for the farm in Hardwick, MA. If you want food that is fresh and you know where it is coming from, this is your place! The business has more than just the meat from their farm. They sell local seafood, prepared foods, sausage, cheese and sweets. They have some candy and chocolates from a place in Vermont. The cheese selection is a very good cheese selection (Cowgirl Creamery). People in Worcester will be tempted to go to another meat market nearby that sells cheap meat. So, I say go ahead. Get something from them, then get the same item from Stillman's and taste the difference. The freshness and flavor should be enough. But the most important thing is that this is a family farm treating their animals with respect and comfort. I would much rather have a steak from a happy cow than one that lives in the mass production that stresses the animal. read more

After reading on your website and even on YELP that the store was open on Sunday, arrive there at 12 on Sunday with a closed and locked doors. Find it a tad disquieting that simply notifying YELP or even your website to say you were closed would have been a big help. Was really looking forward to shopping here.. read more

Wow this is such a lovely store. It's so unusual to find a place that carries local food at all, much less this kind of selection. There's everything you need here to make a beautiful meal except for the fresh vegetables. You can get gorgeous fresh local meats, cheeses, crackers, jams and jellies... It goes on and on and they even have freshly baked pot pies if you're not feeling energetic! I have had several problems with orders from SQM not being filled. I go to pick up my order but it has not arrived. The staff are always apologetic, but that really doesn't make up for a wasted journey and having to change plans at the last minute. Kate is never apologetic; she just seems to think she's wonderful and customers should put up with the inconvenience and lack of service ethic. Also, I find the meat is often cut unevenly and therefore cooks unevenly. And it's not cheap. I have given up on this provider. read more

At the Brookline Farmer's Market today, a middle aged female was working the Stillman Meats booth. She aggressively told off an older Asian man, and added that if he wants to buy from them, he should "learn how to speak English". We called Stillman Meats to report this, and the woman we spoke to was incredibly indifferent. Vendors are human, we get it, we all have bad days. But remarks like these are never ok. We will not be buying from and support Stillman Meats. read more

I love the idea of their better than organic turkeys and want to support family farms. I bought one of their turkeys in the past but this year couldn't drive to Worcester to pick it up. So I ordered a turkey for delivery, but didn't realize they would start sending them 10 days in advance. We don't have cold storage at home for a fresh turkey for so long. I called, and they told me about the timing and I canceled the order within less than 24 hours of making it. No reply -- no refund. I emailed a second time, same thing. Then I called. They said the person was taking a course and would be back the next day. Finally, three days later and after 10 days, today they processed the refund and charged a 14% cancellation fee they said was to cover credit card charges -- $25. Surely that's twice what those charges actually were and no mention of a cancellation fee on the website. They didn't refund the tip I gave them either! The person in charge of emails said they had family issues, which I'm sorry about, but it's a long time for a customer to go without any response for $170 worth of turkey. Especially when I also will need to find a new one before other places run out. Luxury problems and I still support their methods of course, but customer relations need improvement, especially keeping the tip! Hah. Never again. I wish it hadn't gone this way. Kate read more

If you like being charged $225 for one turkey and the staff gets irritated when you mention it to them...plus dealing with their refusal of any accountability, then by all means, go here (staff member, who was apparently a last-minute volunteer, argued that I never paid the full price online without any supporting back up docs to support her argument- just off the cuff as if I should just take her word when I already paid in full... She obviously didn't want to be there and had a hair-trigger temper because she went from 0 to 100 the moment I brought up that there had to be a mistake with my charges. How arrogant must she be to be so decidedly certain that I never paid in full when she just started there and had no means to even look it up? She addressed me like some deadbeat who was trying to get out of paying and demanded my card or else no turkey.. the attitude was just "Shut up and pay me and I don't want to hear any complaint whatsoever.")... I did not pay this expensive price and drive through back country for an hour just to have to walk on eggshells and be verbally bullied... 2. If you like paying for delivery...only to have that feature taken away with little notice...and never once being OFFERED reimbursement for the $25 delivery fee, then by all means come here. I've never had people treat me so disrespectfully. I attempted to mention that it was a long drive, and had I known there would be no delivery, I would never have ordered it to begin with... When I said this I was repeatedly and rudely cut off with comments about staffing issues and the Pandemic. For what they charge (and DOUBLE charge) there should be at least a minimal effort to provide at least halfway decent customer service and a minimal effort to be civil. Note: when you give attitude from the get-go and disrespect a customer and their valid question you have lost your right to expect respect in return. If you work at a business, and you feel that a customer is being unreasonable because she asks that you check and maintain records of customer payments, and you refuse because it's easier for YOU to just charge again, then it's high time you close your business. The keeping of payment records should be a given. Stop holding the Pandemic responsible for what is clearly, your refusal to treat customers decently on even a basic level. After all this nonsense and AFTER double-charging me they commented that I was lucky to get any turkey. This isn't a food bank! I paid TOP DOLLAR for an average turkey and that entitled me to get one, without being double charged and without the extreme attitude. We do not owe you free money. Twice now, including yesterday - go there and shop closed, no one there. Web site posts it as open and it is locked, dark, no one around. Hey Stillman - give it up if you can't staff it like you say! Or at least change your web site to "will open when we feel like it". Even leave days/hours off. So I just called your number to ask "what's up?" and got the staffer. Nice man, but out of his hands. He also said you didn't open today either, because (wow, get this, readers) "It was too cold this morning." Good one! Hey, it's not like the governor was urging us to stay off the roads or anything this morning. This is New England. Get used to going to work when it's 15 degrees. Like the rest of us. Placed an order for delivery and it arrived right on time and everything looks awesome. The staff there is working hard right now during the pandemic and shop closures to make sure people still get their orders. There were a number of times I showed up during their posted hours to find the shop was closed. After several attempts, I made it inside and purchased several refrigerated and frozen pre-made foods. While they tasted great, there was so little meat! The pot pies were 95% gravy. It was hard to find meat in the chili. read more

(the drive there and because of construction we had to park farther away) A simple phone call or e-mail to let me know would have been the right thing to do. Not happy.
