Stinson's is the #1 purveyor of keg beer for the college. God bless 'em for it.

We were visiting the nearby Billings Farm and a staff person there recommended that we pick up…read moresandwiches at the Village Butcher (five minutes away) and then have a picnic on one of their many tables at the Farm. This was a great suggestion. I selected the House Roast Beef sandwich ($13) - with lettuce, tomato, Vermont cheddar, and garlic aioli, served on a kaiser roll. The roast beef was rare, juicy and the other ingredients helped to make it a hardy and delicious sandwich. My wife had the Veggie Lover's Delight ($12) - with roasted red and yellow peppers, red onion, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber, served on sourdough bread with a goat cheese and pesto spread. Their refrigerator cases had the makings for a simple picnic to an extravagant spread -- and everything in between. It's called the Village Butcher because it also is a butcher shop in addition to selling sandwiches. There is no inside seating, but there is plenty of outdoor tables. This is the kind of place you wouldn't discover on your own, but it makes for a great lunch spot.

We got there pretty early and were the only ones in the store, and we do have to say that the service here is impeccable. We were greeted with such genuine warmth and kindness, and the young man helping us could not have been more hospitable. Unfortunately, there's a pretty limited selection for breakfast items, but we were happy to score a spinach-cheddar turnover that had just come out of the oven. It was BEYOND--so good with a healthy amount of spinach and flaky, not greasy puff pastry shell. We salute you! (Last year we had a mushroom turnover that was equally impressive despite not being straight out of the oven.) The egg & cheese breakfast sandwich was a little more dull in comparison--still good, but could have used more seasoning and pizzazz. Anyway, we think it's probably better to come here for lunch to get a heartier meal because sandwiches seem to be their thing. We're looking forward to trying one on our next visit. Either way, a great place worth visiting if you're in Woodstock.

Got near the frozen food aisle and here comes unmasked coughing employee moving around the back of store. Then she's back to stocking shelves. How is she at work? Has anyone heard of COVID that works here? Needless to say, my hubby wanted to get the hell out of there quickly and now doesn't ever want to go back. It isn't the same store as it was many years ago. They need to look at how great coop stores are in Vt. and copy them. Oh and tell your employees to stay home when sick!

However, the staff are not helpful, not pleasant and are quite rude. If it were not for the flowers themselves I would go elsewhere like Vermont Cut Flowers. They have wonderful flowers with a great staff but I didn't have time to go over there. After having lived in the Upper Valley for about 20 years the attitude sadly reinforces Hanover's reputation. I have enjoyed their annual Dairy Day where they promote products to encourage you to shop at their store but again the overall attitude continues to discourage me from shopping there. The flowers themselves 5 stars. The service probably 1.5.

Location/Decor 5/5: Loved the location of the store, it was perfectly placed around other shops. Also conveniently located right behind the store was a lawn with tables/chairs and a river! The store itself was super cute and had tons of other products you can buy. Side note, the bathroom is across the way in another complex, quick minute walk. Food 4/5: I ended up getting the Shrimp Po Boy $15.95. The sandwich was huge and a bit messy. I would have preferred a smaller sandwich and it come with a side instead. The sandwich was pretty light, flavor was good and the shrimp was cooked well. Service 5/5: This is definitely a locals place, the person taking our order knew several of the patrons that came through. The service was quick and the person taking our order was very kind! I would happily be back if I am in the area!
