Great place to grab a drink with friends! Having just left another event, a group of us were on the hunt to grab a quick drink. We looked up and there was Stocks and Blondes. As it was about 9 degrees F, it was good enough for me just to get out of the cold. We came in to a moderately busy crowd on a weeknight, about a week before Christmas. Some Christmas decorations around and you could see some of the other patrons were stopping in after their respective office Christmas parties. Great vibe and a really good selection of drinks. Our server was great as well. Patient as we were a handful of people at multiple tables. Oh...there's a rule - DO NOT MOVE TABLES! We thought we'd move two tables together for our larger group and were quickly shut down. We were directed to the multiple signs on the wall asking patrons not to do so. Totally on us. We were told that the rule is in place because the floors are uneven and the tables then become a bit wonky. Understood. One flaw, but not related to the eating/drinking portion. The men's restroom seems to have a plumbing issue. The stall is blocked off as out of order and there are signs apologizing about an issue with the plumbing. Fair enough. It was about as clean as a downtown Chicago bar bathroom can be, but the toilets not being able to flush (even the urinals) seems a bit odd. There was another person in there when I stopped in who seemed to be a regular. He mentioned that the plumbing out of order issue has been a thing for several months now. That's weird, if true. Would I go back? Absolutely. Given the circumstances, I'd have to be at the right place at the right time to do so, but I totally would. I'd recommend this upbeat little place for anyone to stop in for a drink and a good time. Whether on your own or with a group, the place is friendly and fun for all. read more

For long time Chicago people this place is great. Location is legendary, under the El at Washington and Wells. No music or tv blasting, just people happy to be out of the office. A ton of beers on tap or bottle. I always try something I've never had before. Servers are usually friendly and efficient, even during the after work rush. It's actually gotten better over time, more selection, better service. It's great to have an after work spot like this. Glad to see they are still going strong despite the smaller crowds in the Loop after COVID. Plenty of other places in Chicago offer views and fancier prices, but I'm really glad there's a dive like this still thriving. This place is crowded and it's not exactly easy to order food (beers are listed in small text on monitors all around), but this is an affordable place to grab a drink or watch a game in the loop. When it's full, it gets quite loud which is good if you want the energy of the crowd while watching your favorite team -- but on the other hand it can be quite challenging to carry on a conversation. Service is alright, not the quickest, but reasonably fast in getting orders. Prices are fair, especially if you're ordering daily specials. For food, I tried the steak quesadilla which was very large and filled with meat for $11. The flavor wasn't the greatest, but the value was good for a bar in the loop. Overall, not a bad place to go after work for a drink or to watch a game, but this is no better than a standard dive bar. read more

When I worked nearby, I would go here for a drink on Fridays. It fills up FAST during lunchtime during the weekdays so if you plan to get lunch get here early to grab a seat or get take out. They usually have some good beers on draft. It's not your basic selection of miller lite or budweiser. They also switch out what's on draft pretty frequently. It's great for people who want to try new things. I tried the 21st Amendment Hell Or High Watermelon and fell in love. I could really taste the watermelon. Since then I have bought the canned version of this, but it's best on draft. I have also tried various ciders that were good. They also have a $4 draft special every day of the week and a food special which is super nice. It's best to check their website. I think that their fried food fries a little too long, but the burgers and sandwiches are good. This place is also more of a bar to chill after work at so the food isn't the best, but I love the deals. It's got a neighborhood bar kind of feel tucked into The Loop. read more

Coworker recommended their wings, so I decided to give it a try especially they seem to give you a $5 off bill after you check-in on Yelp. I ordered the Spicy Pineapple flavor as I thought it's gonna be sweet, sour, and spicy. The wings are good - big with crispy skins and aren't dry. A little downside would be the sauce... It will be perfect if the pineapple taste can be stronger. I can smell the pineapple when I open the to-go box, and can see small chunks of pineapples, but can't really taste any. Also, the $5 off deal only applies to dine-in customers; such exclusion isn't listed :( and they charge 50 cents for to-go orders. read more

Went for lunch here before a matinee Broadway show. My husband said it was a dive bar and it certainly is. They could at least duct tape the splitting vinyl on the stools. The waitress's nails were too long to be serving food. My sandwich was burnt but it took so long to get I wasn't going to ask for a replacement - we had a show to get to. I tore off the burnt bottom and ate my beef sandwich with just the top of the bun. Waitress saw it and didn't say a word. Drink specials seemed good. If I ever go back, and at this time I certainly don't plan to, it will be for drinks only. read more

Popped in late on Sunday for some 9 pm eats. (This area shuts down EARLY as far as food options go!) Nice little dive with wood and brick interior. Some TVs, dart boards. Purse hooks at the bar! Kinda sticky, so the scene must get sloppy sometimes, but it was blissfully laidback when I was there. Enjoyed some tasty pints - there's quite a selection. Told bartender what I was in the mood for & he made a recommendation so good I decided to have two ;) 90s hip hop playing the night I was there...like: great 90s hip hop. I was wiggling and giggling and loving every minute of it. For eats, had the "fire" wings, which the bartender informed me were not hot if I liked spicy food (I do). Perfectly good bar food; I wasn't mad at it...in fact, I'd do it again. Stopped in here while walking from Union Station to our hotel for the weekend. Small neighborhood bar. Couple of regulars at the bar. No frills kinda place. Bartender was also our server. I really wanted this place to be great since it's so close to my office and I've heard great things; however, the staff last night was horrible. At one point both bartenders (who were also serving the tables) were on their phones head down while the entire bar stared at them waiting for another drink or in my case trying to close the tab. Once they finally came around to collect our payment we were given a horrible attitude. I stoped into Stocks and Blondes while on a business trip because it was by my hotel and was the only kitchen open at 10pm on a weeknight. I walked in and this is a dive bar. I stopped at the bar asked for a menu and grabbed a beer while waiting for my club to be made. The kitchen was quick and the food wasn't much. A beer and club to go was $15. I got back to the hotel and open the box to find fries as well. The club was ok, no dressing or sauce. There were a ton of seats and a lot of TVs that were playing the games so if you want to watch with some friends, then this is the perfect place for you. The service here is also awesome. Trust me, Late Night is where Stocks & Blondes hits its stride! I seriously was going to veto my friend's suggestion of S&B's, but I was so pleasantly surprised by their good beer list, great service, and interesting crowd; I might suggest it myself, in the future! They've got a really good beer list of your Half Acres, your Bells, and a few beers I've never heard of. The waitresses will never let your glass go empty, but they aren't pushy either! The crowd gets super interesting late at night too. And maybe it's just the amount of alcohol everyone's had by then, but this place is fun and entertaining. When I first heard the name of this place I automatically had thoughts of hot blondes serving me drinks, but as I entered I noticed there weren't any hot blondes serving anything! The place isn't all that bad. You have to deal with elbow to elbow seating and the usual obnoxious next table neighbor shouting his conversation all over your table because they think the people surrounding them can't hear them. If you get there anytime after 4PM you can damn near forget about a seat. They usually have specials with the food and the food is really great here. Drinks are good and fairly priced, but the service is hit or miss. I have sat at the bar and always recieved excellent service, but when I get a table, sometimes service is a little shabby. I recommend this place for those that work near the financial district and are looking for that happy hour fix, but good luck finding an available table read more

This smoky and dimly lit bar draws a group of traders and other Loop workers, as its wry name seems to indicate. The food menu is not bad, as I have tried buffalo chicken fingers and a turkey wrap here. The portions are fairly generous, and they all seem to go well with a cold one. The no-frills atmosphere somehow packs 'em in, so it can be crowded after work. It's very close to the Washington "L" stop in the Loop, so it's easy to stumble there if the Brown/Orange/Purple/Pink Line is your ticket home. read more

A friend and I stopped in to Stocks & Blondes for a drink after work and we enjoyed ourselves. Décor: This place is a pretty divey bar but that was just what we were looking for that night. Someplace where you go for a relaxing beer and where no one really cares what anyone else is doing. They had sports on the tv, the music was decent (and not really noticeable) and it just had a nice homey feel to it. I could see why there are so many regulars. The bar is a bit small and there are tables throughout the rest of the area. It's dark, but it isn't terribly under lit, just enough to keep with the dive bar vibe. Bathroom: It's small but it gets the job done and it is clean (given that it's a bar). Staff: The bartenders kept pretty close to "business" but seemed to know the regulars (even what they usually drink, which is solid) but were quick with checking in on us and getting the next round. Drinks: The beers are decently cheap here and that's really all you want at a place like this. They have a pretty large selection of different brews and, of course, have a full bar. If you can't find something you like here then you are WAY too picky. Value: Cheap beers, nuff said. I'm a fan of this place and can definitely see myself returning, and bringing friends, in the future. read more

What an awesome bar to swing in for a bite to eat and some cold draft beers!!! The bartender Matty was incredible. He was super friendly, easy to talk to, and provided incredible service. My wife and I shared a Chicken Quesadilla which was really really tasty - great quality grilled chicken with lots of cheese, and comes with a delicious salsa. We also had an order of french fries. You NEED to try the fries if you come here, they were absolutely out of this world fantastic, seasoned to perfection. The business is in a historic building that survived the Great Chicago Fire so they do not have a sign outside other than what is on their door/windows. Review is for post work drinks only. The bad part of the loop is that there are not many great restaurants or bars and unfortunately Stocks and Blondes fits that bill. Stocks and Blondes is a local dive/sports bar and is known as a go-to staple for happy hour. It's a very small and very loud as this place can get quite busy after work and during lunch. They have a good craft beer selection and good beer specials.  The service was non-existent as my coworker and I sat down at a table for a drink and we were completely ignored by the waitress. She definitely saw us come in and we made eye contact to get her attention. But she ended up serving the table of 3 right next to us, who came in after us. I had to go up and get drinks from the bar as she never served us after waiting for about 10 minutes. Plus I wanted to know what bourbon they had as I am a bourbon enthusiast. I ordered a Maker's Mark neat and I swear it was bottom shelf bourbon poured into the Maker's Mark bottle. Not good... If you are looking for a local, loud dive bar with cheap beer in the loop, then Stocks and Blondes is for you. If you are looking for a nicer place with decent service then I would recommend going elsewhere. I'm willing to walk the extra distance to Miller's Pub, Randolph Tavern, Ace Bounce, or the new Flight Club. The best part about Stocks and Blondes is the cheap beer. Serves the after work crowd, a little bit more of a dive than most bars in the loop but you can't complain when the beers are cheaper as well. But it's always going to be insanely crowded because it serves the after work crowd, especially on a Friday. I've been in there even til like 8 on Fridays and it's still very busy so don't go in and expect to get a seat. Consider yourself lucky if you show up and can stand near a table. Partly because of the crowd, partly because of the layout, it can be very difficult to get up to the bar to get a beer. But the draft selection is pretty solid and it's all reasonably priced. $5 for a pint, not many places beat that in the loop. read more
