I've heard about this place over the years and the comments have been up and down. Some loved it some hated it. I for one loved it, I went on a Saturday night and it wasn't to busy as it was 8 ish i believe. Met with a nice coat check girl at the top of the stairs (3$) and then made my way inside to my table. As soon as I walked in I had a waitress who came up to me telling me how much she loved my purse which was sweet. Our waitress came over with a ashtray and the menus I got an old fashion and it was made well (strong) just how I like it. They did use the sweet cherries but most people don't have the fancy ones. The music was playing pretty loud but it wasn't anything that you couldn't handle. Groups of guys filled the room in business suite taking over most the group Lounges and taking pictures having a great time. We sat in the middle in two comfy leather chairs right near the front door so we had a great view over looking the street as well as what's going on the lounge. It was a great night and it wasn't expensive nothing like whisky cafe of course. It's louder more fun and the drinks won't cost you an arm and a leg. read more

Stopped in last night to check out the vide. Liked what I saw and decided to imbibe in a beverage & cigar. Walked up to the second floor. I was greeted promptly by one of the waitresses. I got a balcony seat and scanned the menu. A second waitress arrived, I asked for a cigar menu and and she took me to the humidifier (cigar room). There was a very good selection of Cuban cigars, which is great! I enjoyed a medium flavor Romero & Juliet. My cigar was cut & deliverer to me with my scotch. I had an excellent view of electric ave , & pretty good service. My expectations were met. Only opportunity I saw was the seating area is pretty cozy and chairs are plastic. First time here, what a great thing! Located on Montreal's Crescent St., it's on the second floor of a corner building. You can sit in the lounge with what looked to be comfortable leather chairs, or out on the balcony (on not-so-comfortable chairs). Smoking is limited to cigars only, cigarettes not. You sit down, select your beverage. They have a huge selection of various single malt scotches, and of course all the other beverages including beer and wine. Once you have a drink, they take you over to the walk-in humidor and you select your cigar. Again a very wide selection of brands and prices. Reasonably priced, something for everyone. Then they cut it and deliver it to your table with matches and a cedar spill. You can also bring your own cigars if you please, they don't charge a cutting fee, just require that you order a drink. Stogies is a pleasant place to smoke cigars and enjoy a nice glass of whiskey, cognac or wine. They have a decent humidor with several reasonably priced cigars and cigarillos and you can smoke your own cigars there also. Pipe smoking is also allowed, but not vaping or cigarette smoking. All the seats are plush leather couches, and there are booths available also, and they're very comfortable. There's a terrace around the outer wall also for warm weather. Stogies is open until 3AM every day of the week, which is very convenient. We were served by a pleasant, attractive young waitress and it was a pleasure to speak to her. What killed the mood was the completely inappropriate and out of place xmusic. Cigar smoking is a mellow experience. When I smoke outdoors with my friends in summer we typically listen to downtempo or lowfi hiphop. Even jazz, blues, classical or Spanish guitar would be appropriate. We asked if it was possible to put on something more mellow, but apparently the owner doesn't like jazz. Instead, they were playing some plebeian pop-rock music that made us feel as though we were at the dingiest of dive bars in the 90's. Totally anathema to the decor, theme, and purpose of the establishment. Quite jarring and unpleasant. We'll be trying other cigar lounges in the future in the hopes of finding one with a more enjoyable ambiance. read more

If you want to have a drink and / or smoke and lounge (as per the definition of the word) visit Stogies from 1pm to about 6:30 / 7:00. During those times, the place is not crowded at all - and more importantly there is no blaring music assaulting your eardrums as if you were in a club (which the place essentially turns into in the late evenings - sans the dancing). You'll love sitting on Stogies' terras in the summer (especially near and during Formula One weekend) to watch Montreal buzz by. Service: The service at Stogies - provided mainly by waitresses - is efficient, friendly and often engaging. The ladies readily recognize the regulars on sight, and if you're new they certainly try to make you feel as if you've been to Stogies before. Drinks: Great selection of spirits, wines, and beers to be had as well as an extensive selection of smokes as well, although these are a little price to factor in for the fact that Stogies on the corner of Crescent Street aka Tourist Central. The only other cigar bar I've been to was the one in Philly (Mahogany). That place is my man place - cigars and scotch. This place is a clubby, classy strip club cigar bar. Everything in here feels like a strip club (scantily clad women, dark lighting, single leather bound seats that you inherently lean in...), but it isn't. There is a decent selection of cigars, all of which are quite pricey. I got a $50 Montecristo Cuban, which was quite good. The scotch was average priced, and the selection was awesome (for scotch and martinis). Next time I'm in Montreal, I can honestly say I'll come back, but that's more because I enjoy cigars with my friends than the establishment. read more

I don't know if I love cigars or hate them, but I was definitely amused by the idea of going to a cigar bar after a few cocktails and a couple of poutines. My American ami was excited that he could get Cubans and reasonably priced scotch under one roof (yes, inside), so away we went. We knew we were on the right corner, but we couldn't find the place at first... but we could smell it. Yes, smell it. So we made like Toucan Sam and rolled up into the place. Waitress let us play with the light system briefly. Confusing but welcome scotch pricing, Lagavulin 16 was cheaper than the 12. They had no problem with us bringing in our own cigars. Lots of comfortable seating. Solid cigar bar. Stogies has multiple floors and the outdoor terrace is an excellent place to enjoy cigars.I can't rate the interior ventilation system since I smoked outdoors. As expected, markup on cigars is pretty high but I came prepared with my own. Accompanied with a full bar, this venue is an attractive spot for a group of guys to hang out. I remember watching all of the nice cars drive down Crescent St. Be warned, their Canadian brews on draft were awful. I'd rather abstain from drinking if that's all they had. Ok onto bourbon. The only problem I had was that the waitress tried to make up her own conversion rate when we put down American currency.... ie 1 CAN = 0.80 USD (when the market said 1 CAN = 0.97 USD) so that was a little annoying. So either bring a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees or bring Canadian currency. Overall I had a good time. We stumbled into this cigar bar after having dinner and a few drinks in the area. The place is very nice, the seating is comfortable but I'm knocking a star off because I felt the staff was not as friendly/informative as they could have been, considering we were newbies. We told the waitress we aren't regular cigar smokers, and she kind of brushed it off and still handed us the cigars and matches & just walked off. On top of that, I felt the customers were all older men who looked at us like we were bait. Which is to be expected for three young ladies at a cigar bar. BUT, we felt judged the entire time because we probably weren't properly smoking the cigars (lol). Of course the bill was steep (~250 for 3 of us), but that was to be expected. Came on a Sunday afternoon for some drinks and cigars. Of course Cubans are illegal in the U.S., so we came here and took advantage of the good import relations these two countries share. I went with a monte cristo no 4 with a neat glenlivet 12 and they paired amazingly well. The place is really nice, with leather lounge chairs on the inside, and great 2nd floor outside view on the outside, which we spent our time smoking, drinking, and people watching. Service was fast and friendly, always making sure our drinks were refilled, and ash trays emptied. Our waitress was gorgeous as well. Decently priced, great selection of alcohol and cigars. "C'est la Merde"...An IQ-deprived bouncer at the door of a cigar bar who (I want to type "which" instead of "who", better suited) instead of greeting you tries to push me away from the door and instead of hello mutters: "You have to be escorted to a table"....#@$%#@$% Escorted? A 41 year-old man and his wife? To a table in a cigar bar which is 3 steps away? But wait, there's more...If you want to approach the bar stand or the humidor from your table, you also need to be "escorted" by another waitress. Very limited selection of extremely expensive cigars (a small Cohiba was $36), good selection of single malts but they pour a fraction of an ounce so you need a microscope to find whisky at the bottom of your glass. If you ever thought people of Quebec were rude and unwelcoming and really want to experience it, this is where you come. Disgusting place, disgusting people...Don't forget the microscope. read more

Atmosphere Stogies is a Montreal bar located downtown Montreal on Crescent street, center of all the action in Montreal during the summer. It is one of the very few cigar lounges that Montreal still has but they sure have one hell of a collection. In my personal opinion, when you go to Stogies, you go on the second floor considering it is where the cigars are available and where the ambiance is at its coolest. It doesn't have the most spacious nor the most luxurious environment however the atmosphere is pretty relaxing on the balconies. Also, if you stay inside, the smoke of all those cigars will soon give you a pretty intense headache. Unfortunately, if you do go outside, don't go with a big group because the balconies are very small and it can soon become annoyingly crowded. The view you get on the street of Crescent is pretty good and it is an amazing location during events such as the Grand Prix because you get to see everything that is going on. In general, the atmosphere of Stogies is worth 3 stars. Drinks & Food When it comes to drinks, Stogies has a wide variety of martinis (101 to be exact) and of single malts (around 70). Do not be worried if those drinks are not quite in your liking because they do serve all kinds of drinks, from Champagne to beer, they have pretty much everything. I have tried a couple of martinis and I have to say that the one I prefer is definitely the litchi martini. The prices are relatively expensive but they make up for it in the amount of alcohol they put in each serving. Unfortunately, they do not serve food so you might want to go eat diner somewhere else first. I would like to give Stogies 3 stars for their drinks and cigars. Service The service provided is kind of slow depending on who you get and on the night you go but they are always very friendly. I would like to recommend one of the waitresses that I try to get at each of my visits, however I forgot her name. If you do spot her though, she has an Arabic tattoo on her arm that means ''forever''. She is very friendly, very fast in her service and she engages in conversations like no other waitress I've met. I will give the service of this Montreal bar 3 stars. Location Stogies is perfectly located: in the middle of downtown, on one of the busiest streets of the summer and right next to the metro Guy. Also, it has little balconies so you can still bathe in the sun while enjoying a cigar and a pretty view. A definite 4 stars for this one. The ambience in this cigar lounge is exactly what the doctor ordered! Great seating, full bar (over 100 martini selection, scotches, etc). The staff and managers were surprisingly extremely helpful. We had an issue with one of the cigars (which happens when you have good hand rolled cigars) and the manager gladly offered to replace it. Cigars were excellently kept, perfectly humidified. On every trip I've made to Montreal over the years I've made it a point to visit here in the afternoon or late evening after dinner and a little clubbing along Crescent Street Stogies has a great selection of cigars for all different price ranges and tastes. The drinks are reasonably priced and the staff exceptionally friendly. As Americans we want to try the thrill of that forbidden Cuban cigar (though given recent events, it may soon lose all luster gained solely from the fact that it is currently contraband). Hostess was friendly enough, though they seemed short staffed and slow moving on this Friday night (waited a good 15 minutes just to get an order in). Have to order a drink minimum, and the prices are steep as others have mentioned.
