Va va voom! Sunday night was my first time coming here and it was for my birthday so I was in a great mood and this place fit my mood perfectly. We started with picking a great comfy leather booth in the back and ordered bourbon tasting and the rum tasting. We got up to pick our cigars there's a huge selection so don't worry about not finding one you like. You can bring your own which I recommend as it's only a $10 fee. I absolutely loved this location! Mind you I really like hunting out these kind of whiskey lounges and they are rare. To truly experience good combination of whiskey and cigars, I am willing to drop a solid for it. We came after midnight so the place was quiet. We were taken to the back where I saw a nice selection of Cigars. I tried an Ardbeg sampler of 3 scotches for 40$ as well as a Montecristo no 4. (which didn't seem fresh- it was hard to start up the cigar quite a few times and the price was hefty for it). I loved that we got complimentary pistachios to munch on while sipping away at Heaven. There were massive menus for whiskey and cigar options. We ordered a couple different flights; I had the Taste of Scotland which was great. Cigars varied in price, started at $20 and went up. I made sure that this was one of my first stops when I was visiting Montreal. I was not disappointed. This place was a gem considering the fact that whiskey is not as easy to come by in Montreal as beer and wine would be. They have an amazing selection of whiskeys and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I enjoyed besides and snacks that you could order along with your drinks. I made sure to check out the Cigar Lounge, where I enjoyed a cigar along with the rest of my bourbon. Great for feeling relaxed in very nice setting. Very ordinary list of whisky - nothing exceptional that you could not pick up elsewhere. As I often travel to Alberta I am used to a lot of private import and SMWS bottles, this was like shopping off a McDonald's menu. Waitress made an error on the order and did not offer to correct it when it was pointed out to her - first time in an establishment that this has ever happened. There are other places to sample whisky in Montreal and surrounding area, and when we travel. No need to return here with this kind of business practice. I expected a little more (the cigar lounge located in the bar) but it was nice. They have a limited cigar selection and the selection that they have is too pricey. Luckily I did bring a cigar, and outside cigars are allowed for a cutting fee. The cigar lounge is one of the more smaller cigar lounges that I have been too as well. They carried a wide selection of scotch (perhaps the largest that I have seen at a bar). read more

Heard about Whisky Café from a local blogger when researching a trip to Montréal with my boyfriend and was not disappointed. We walked in and were immediately escorted to the back room where we were greeted with a cloud of cigar smoke and tables full of middle aged men in suits enjoying scotch, neat. Being in our mid-20s and dressed casually, we were definitely a little out of place but that didn't affect the service or experience. Whisky Café has a distinct old school boys club vibe, but does not feel exclusive. Service was decent, cigar selection is good and whiskey selection is incredible. I attended the Whisky Café for a bachelor party last weekend on the suggestion of a friend and I was not at all disappointed. From the minute you walk in, the atmosphere and the mood of this place is great. Very classic and luxurious. Nice dim lighting and low level of mood music add to the incredible experience. We decided to have some cigars with our Scotch so we were seated in a booth in the cigar lounge. It was very comfortable but could be a bit cramped for bigger fellas. I ordered a Laphroaig 16 year old and Montecristo 4 and slipped away to heaven for the next hour. It had been so long since I had a great scotch and cigar I was in a state of euphoria. The scotch is served in a proper Glercairn glass and the cigar was fresh and obviously kept properly as it was a nice even slow burn. Two very minor trivial complaints. One, it was a bit pricey but not outlandishly high. About $70 for my cigar and Scotch. Two, we were content and did not require anything else from our server however, he popped his head over once in an hour and did not even ask if we needed anything else. Come to think of it, that's not such a bad thing. This is the kind of place were you just want to sit and not be bothered. The washrooms in this place are really cool too. The men urinal is basically a waterfall wall. Clean and well kept. We arrived in the early evening and the crowd was low so it suited us nicely but by the time we had left, the crowd had picked up and was getting a bit loud so I'm glad we arrived when we did. Overall I would love to be able to go this place often but being from out of the Montreal area and the price makes it a place reserved for special occasions. Places has a great list of Scotch, if that's all you care about you'll have a good time. I really wanted to love this place, but the price and ambience just didn't work for me. The Scotch was good, so I can't complain too much. The Glenfiddich taster (of the 12, 15, and 18 year old) is good, and the pours were friendly. I didn't get a chance to try the cigars, so I'm hoping to go back soon (and update my review). The venue is nice, but didn't really inspire me. The booths are comfy, but the rest of the tables looked bunched together - I'm all for making friends with the people next to me, but I like to do it by choice, not because they're sitting on my lap. This is a great low key spot in a city known for its up tempo night life. I visited this place with my friends recently during a weekend Bachelor party and it was the perfect switch up from the night out of clubbing. They have a great cigar Parlor, as well as a spacious main room. We however sat outside on the sidewalk and Drank the best Scotches and Smoked Cigars for hours. The service was extremely accommodating, and our waiter was very knowledgeable. The bathroom was unexpectedly breath taking. The best thing about this Whiskey Cafe is without a doubt the atmosphere which is perfect for Scotch and Cigars. If you like Scotch I wouldn't skip this place during a visit to Montreal. You should expect to spend spend money if you're into good scotch, but how much you spend is ultimately up to you. read more

Introductory caveat: I am an American. Not in a dickish way, but in a way that does affect my experience drinking as a tourist in Montréal. I'll explain below, but the short version is that while I was tempted to write a two-star review, I think my review would be higher if I were local. Whisky Café is a great concept with a pleasant space and, assuming you like Scotch, a great whiskey list. Voluminous Scotch menu. The menu is a bit lighter on bourbon, rye, etc., but still has some good stuff (I was happy to see Blanton's behind the bar). Here is where my American experience comes in. In the U.S., booze is cheap, perhaps stupidly cheap. This is not a dig against Canada -- far from it. However, my thought was that since I could order the same whiskey in a bar at home for half price, I would try Whisky Café's cocktail menu, since that would be a bit more of a distinctive experience. The cocktails sucked. Both my cocktail and my wife's were so citrus forward that we could not taste the whiskey (and we like whiskey). My wife's was the lesser offender, yet she still remarked that she felt like the drink was stripping the enamel from her teeth. Certainly disappointing from an upscale, pricy place that ostensibly takes pride in the quality of their drinks. So my read is this: if you are local, are into good whiskey, and can afford to drink at the Whisky Café, I think I recommend the place (just order the straight stuff). If, however, you're not that into whiskey, prefer mixed drinks, or have the luxury of procuring the same whiskeys at south-of-the-border prices, I might recommend a pass. read more

I ordered a Loch Lomond 12 because I'd never tried it and it was readily available... in an empty bar no less... waitress misheard and served me a Lagavulin 12! No wonder I considered it better than average. Only figured out the mistake when the waitress gave me the bill. I highlighted the mistake, she just stared dumbfounded and said she heard Lag 12. She never offered to make it right or charge me right price. If you're gonna serve in a whisky bar.... make sure you hear the order right and make sure to serve what the customer wants. This is quite a hip little spot and we almost wished we smoked cigars so we too could be whisked off to the back room. Guess I'm just not hip enough though. The Scotch menu sure is impressive but I was slightly peckish so ordered one of their food pairings - Port and cheese. I was quite impressed with the portion of the two cheeses, melba toast, almonds and dried cranberries and the port came in a proper Port glass. One friend had a beer and the other a scotch. The coolest part of the experience though was, oddly, the washroom. They have this fancy toilet that cleans itself after every flush. Seriously! When you flush the toilet seats rotates through a little washing machine once around. I wish every bar would get on board with this program!!
