I want to share my recent experience with Stokes Volkswagen dealership, which I found to be highly deceitful and exploitative. I hope this helps prevent other innocent customers from facing the financial loss I endured. I was quoted $5,800 for my car and invited to the dealership with the promise of a better offer. However, once there, my car was damaged so badly it became inoperable. The used car manager, Wess Stokes, refused to take responsibility and instead offered just $2,500--less than half the original quote. Afterward, I came across many other disturbing reviews about this dealership. I regret ever doing business with them, but I hope my experience serves as a warning to others. Technician said the front brake pads didn't need to be replaced. We took the tires off after they kept grinding only to find the brake pads were worn down to nothing. Store was clean but no sales persons were outside to great me, no sales persons were inside that greated me. The customer service desk looked up and watched me walk in to look at the new van they have in their showcase. The van is app. $68k and for no one to even speak to me for a fraction of a second was just unacceptable to me. There were about 4-5 sales persons in the back room laughing and cutting up, and 1 sales persons working with a couple just inside the front door. He didn't even get up and at least tell me someone would be out to help me, didn't call anyone to come help me. So I left. I didn't feel special at all. Very disappointing. read more

The worst service department on the planet. You have to Make an appointment for a service 8 weeks out but when you drop it off for an hour of work it will take 9 days to complete. No loaners, no apologies. I've also dropped off my car for them to access the need for 3 days THEN had to bring it back for the actual service. Got there at 7:30am for a realignment. Waited only 1hour for a perfect job (noticed no drift or pull while driving home). Friendly staff. Following CDC guidelines for mitigation of Covid transmission. Actually saw a steward who was wiping surfaces only 1 hour after opening! Oh, forgot to mention. They checked my newly replaced tires (completed by a familiar "friendly"and "great place to go fir a good deal" tire shop, and found one tire inflated to 65psi. I happily purchased a brand new vehicle from Stokes VW two years ago and have brought it back to this dealership for all of it's service and maintenance needs since. The moment my car was outside of the warranty, however, Stokes VW told me that I needed a $6,000 repair on my previously healthy and youthful 2-year-old engine. With this shocking news, I paid the $380 diagnostic fee and had my car towed elsewhere for a second opinion. It was here, after a full inspection, that I was told my car was NOT in need of the engine repair that Stokes VW had attempted to swindle me with. To say I am disappointed with this establishment would be a total understatement. read more

I did not purchase my car here but I love my VW Jetta and the service I receive from the Stokes department! Sign up for their emails and you'll get communication on various deals that are happening to get the best value for whatever it is you need. I use their coupons to get my oil changes (I do them twice a year!) and they also offer a full inspection plus if I have any concerns they'll take a look. So far brakes are still good even after 7 years! Like most car repair shops you'll have a lengthy wait depending on the service so plan accordingly or bring a book - they offer coffee and tea plus bottles of water and there's a few charging stations for your electronics. They offer an express lane where you don't need an appointment like oil changes and quick fixes (check their website for a list). They offer a shuttle service as well but I haven't used it so can't comment on that. Overall if you keep up to date on the basics like changing your cabin/air filters, oil change, rotating your tires, checking your tire tread, and make sure break pads are not run down it'll make for safer travels for you and those around you. Now if only those pesky rocks and pebbles on I-26 would stop ruining my windshield that would be grand! Lmao read more

I had a fine experience during the sales process, but what I've experienced after buying the car I have been left with a bad taste in my mouth. The brand-new car I purchased has had an issue that affects safety since the moment I drove it off the lot. I have waited almost 3 months for the part to come in and be fixed. Throughout this time, the service manager was rude and acted as though I was an inconvenience. I brought my car in for the third time to attempt to get this fixed and although this was the day and time I had an appointment, I was told they had to go check and make sure they would be able to get to my car. I was then told the computer needed to fix it had broken down two days ago and I just wasn't alerted to their inability to fix it. Now I have spent hours of my time going back and forth to their service department trying to get this fixed and been MUCH more understanding than I should have been. I've had to adjust both my work schedule and spent money on gas each time for them to fix an issue that should have been detected before they sold me the car. Not only that, but the way I have been treated is absolutely unacceptable. The issue is still not fixed and I have had to make a 4th appointment to hopefully rectify it. read more

My husband purchased a new Tiguan in 2018. We love the car but three years later we are finding issues here and there. Our car has low mileage and is basically driven locally for errands. With that, the service center at this Volkswagen needs some serious help. I have now called twice to get our car taken in so that it can be looked at for ominous messages of my engine going into emergency mode and messages of needing to take it in for service. I use this car to take my kid to school every day and when this message pops up the car literally goes into emergency mode. I have pleaded with the service department to please get my car in, which is covered under warranty, and to please provide a loaner so that I can get my kid to and from school. They continue to say that somebody will call me back. This is now the second time that they have decided not to do so. My husband will be calling to follow up since they seem to dismiss my requests. It will be interesting to see if they listen to him over me. I do not recommend this particular Volkswagen as they seem to only care about selling you a car over building a lasting relationship with you. In the past they haven't done oil change and factory service through appointment, only first come first serve. Ok, dealt with that waiting three hours just to get my car in. Now, I'm due for another factory service, had an appointment which they are now doing and they cancelled that appointment the day before asking me to call back on Monday to reschedule. Called on Monday, no one has answered the phone all day, service sales or parts. Online scheduling was not available either. They seem to have a serious problem with the service department, either management, staff or both. I won't buy a VW if I can't get reasonable service. I went to Mt. Pleasant for my service and plan to trade my VW for a Honda, Hyundai where there are better dealerships. read more

This place gets 2 stars instead of 1, but her boss/manager that takes the information and decides on the offer is an incompetent jerk. He claimed he had 30+ yrs of experience and offered 7k and actually said "and not a penny more" with a major reason being that we didn't have the timing belt on our vehicle replaced. It was expressed to us that this is very costly and to be done when a vehicle hits 100k miles (ours was just at 101k). We declined the offer knowing they had the same vehicle with more miles on their lot for 11k and knowing we were being low balled even with the timing belt concern. Being told this info, we ended up decreasing what listed our great, clean and well kept vehicle for- considering there was APPARENTLY a timing belt that the new owners would need to purchase. Turns out our 2013 4-cylinder accord doesn't actually HAVE a timing belt-- Honda 4 cylinders after 2005 started getting timing chains which NEVER have to be replaced. Glad we had his knowledge and experience low balling us for NO REASON. What sucks is knowing how many other people he's lied to bc he either doesn't know what the heck he's talking about, or is just scamming people. Sales and Service, neither applies at Stokes VW Our purchase nearly a year ago was needless to say, underhanded and deceptive. We had a lease and the sales manager and sales person told us if we paid X, we would be completely clear of our lease. Well, that didn't happen. A month later we were notified we owed an additional $2K. Slick move. Then when it comes to service - and their EXPRESS service! Clearly they don't know what the word express means. First, they WILL NOT give you an appointment for an oil change. Their way of not being accountable to any customer. When I arrived, I stood at the check in desk for 15 minutes, NO one was around and finally, was checked in and told the recall (replace screws in the head lamp and oil change) would take 30 to 45 minutes. An hour and a half hour later......................... only after I asked to see the manager did it get done. If you are looking for a great customer experience, Stokes VW is NOT for you. read more

Once again I have contacted these people about the "repair" to my radio that DID NOT WORK shortly after it left the dealership. I got platitudes and attitudes from their general manager, then ghosted by their general manager who always leaves "contact him personally" in his response to every negative comment. The radio answers all calls but the microphone DOES NOT FUNCTION. They "fixed it" by unplugging the radio from the battery and recoding the radio to the car. Easy fix that did not last! It was done under the new car warranty which expired with the repair. Since no parts were replaced, NO WARRANTEE either. They claim to have "fixed it" but the patch did not last. I refuse to pay $$$+ to get another repair. DO NOT USE these "repair" facilities in my humble opinion. read more

I made an appointment and drove 3 hours to have my car serviced only to be told, after 5 hours of waiting, that the part needed to repair my car was not in stock. Then, the manger then had the nerve to give me the excuse "well One of my employees called out sick and we are busy" I made an appointment to avoid this very problem. One star is very generous, I would give them zero if that was a possibility. This dealership provides the worst service I have received by a dealership. I took my car to be repaired for a factory issue. It was returned to me with greasy handprints all over the roof lining and work tools in the trunk. I then had to take it myself to be cleaned. When they cleaned it, they left the roof lining pulled and ragged in places. It was returned to me like that. I then informed them of this issue and was told I would need to come back a third time to have the roof lining replaced. I tried to get a hold of the manager on the phone. After 6 phone calls and 4 voicemails over 6 days he finally answered. He interrupted me every word I said and when I said something he didn't agree with he hung up on me. Think twice before buying a vehicle from Stokes VW! Should you have a change of heart about investing in a near $60,000 electric VW id.4, such as I did, Stokes VW is not the place for you! Last week I placed a hold on an id.4 with a $500 deposit. This was simply a hold without a signed contract. I was very close to purchasing this car but in the 11th hour I decided to stick with a gas vehicle until the technology improved and the price point dropped. I informed Stokes VW of my decision and asked for my deposit back. Unbelievably the Manager of Stokes VW, Michael Mazell, had a hard time accepting my decision. He has refused to refund my deposit directly to my credit card. After three requests to do so I finally had to contact my credit card company.  If these are the actions and example set by Mr. Mazell as the General Manager and leader of his team at Stokes VW, I would take great caution in doing any business with them or any business under the Stokes brand for that matter. To keep it simple, I dropped my car off before going out of town for 10 days. When I returned, I called and asked for an update and was told there were two to three tickets ahead of mine to have their initial inspection. I was given no reasoning or apology for the 12 days of not even checking my car. I called back the next day with a little more impatience, asking if this was standard, what the protocol was, and what the timeline looked like. They said they this was standard, and they were behind for many reasons including 'sending some people to school', and that they would get to it sometime this week. I was told I could not even pick up my car until they were ready for it or I would lose my spot. When I went to pick up my car the next day (still nothing done to it) no one said a single word and just gave me my keys. Not once was I given an explanation nor an apology. I would give them less than 1 star if possible. Very dishonest dealership. Contacted them about a VW ID4, they had an advertised price for the sale of the car that I was OK, They asked me to fill out a credit application, which I did. As I was trying to proceed to finalize the deal, They spring up on me that the price on the Website is for if I were to lease the car (as they get 7500 credit from the government). There is no mention whatsoever that the pricing is for leasing, no disclosure, no foot note, nothing. It just says this their price for selling the car. Any reputable dealership will make the distinction between sale and lease clear enough, and typically a lease is quoted in the form of down payment, and a monthly payment for the duration of the lease. Obviously I protested their dishonesty, and asked to either update their website with their actual pricing or I will complain to the better business bureau, and VW; which they did. I have been cars for the last 35 years or so, and dealt with many dealerships over that time, and this is the worst I have seen. These guys should not be in business. read more

I definitely recommend the service department, great guys in there. Todd was really great! Sales and finance team, definitely not. I got screwed over in a purchase with lies from the get go, but the time I caught it, it was too late. Luckily, not really all that upset about it. The benefit of why I bought outweighed the screwing over. I learned my lesson. They did get me a good rate, but what was said in the beginning was not what ended up happening. Communication is an issue, I've contacted my sales consultant by phone (left voicemails) and emails, yet to hear back. They at least paid my old loan off promptly. The service department, specifically Todd is what will keep me going for my Passat's needs. I will never deal with Stokes for a purchase, I'd go to another VW dealer for those needs. I definitely recommend the service department, make sure to go over everything with a fine tooth comb before starting any official paperwork or exchanging of keys. *update* run away. Not only did they screw me from above, the 200 dollar detailing service ended with my car being scratched up and seats stained. NO call backs or replies to my emails, I've left messages. So, I'm gonna file a complaint with the BBB. Another update, to get their attention, I had to post this and file a BBB complaint. Called once, talked for a moment, they called again then I called back and left a voicemail to be called back. That was about 4 days ago. I would like for my faith to be restored in Stokes so I can withdrawn my claim and change this review. And another update. After being sold on the quality, the numerous inspection points, the pride in the cars they sold and something in my price range, they offered me a great deal on a car only to then tell me that one was way out of my budget. Then they pulled the switch after being there for over an hour already and brought out an older car w more miles and told me that one was the one I could get, of course at the very top of my budget. $1.5k over kbb value. Tried to bring them down on price but their attitude was basically take it or leave it and dismissing. I left and after negotiating came back got the car. After driving it for 1 day, realized had issues with the driver side window, the air pressure sensor and the alignment. When I called them about these, they said I could bring it in and they would fix it for a fee. What about your 140 point inspection, pride and product and all the other crap?!? I just spent a large amount of money the day before and now they want to charge me for stuff they should have caught and fixed before selling the car!?!? They told me not to worry about the alignment as I had new tires. They put new tires on there but did not even do an alignment. Very disappointed in there approach and lack of basic customer service! I took my car in for its routine 30k maintenance and courtesy wash on a Wednesday. As I was walking up to pick up my car the first thing I noticed was my car was dirty. Rain would have washed off more than they did. Then I saw a nice size dent right in the back of my car. When I told them what I had found they were quick to set up an appointment for the next day to fix the dent and fully detail my entire vehicle. I was very relieved that they were handling the problem easily and, so far, professionally. The next morning I bring my car in and they gave me a loaner which is great when your car is in the shop. Around 3pm they call me and say their detailers had changed their hours without telling the maintenance department but they will be in tomorrow. They tell me to keep the loaner overnight and I can pick up my car tomorrow. The next day, lunch comes and goes with no word from Stokes so I give them a call at 1pm. They ask if they can call me right back as the office is busy right now. An hour later they call and tell me they are working on the car and it will be done soon. Finally at 5pm I get a call but now they tell me the detailers couldn't finish the car and I'll have to pick it up tomorrow. It is now Saturday, two days into the holiday weekend, and I still don't have my car back from a simple oil change. Stokes VW calls at 1:30pm telling me the car is ready for me to pick up. I drive over and walk inside to sign for my car. The attendant immediately starts explaining that the detailers never showed up so she just had the maintenance guys clean the car. And in her words it should be ok, "because we aren't charging you for the dent repair or car detailing." Well I am so glad that you aren't charging me to repair the dent that you put into my car (which after three days still isn't completely fixed) and that you lied to me that my car was being worked on. The maintenance guys who "detailed" my car left large streaks of polishing compound and/or wax all over the vehicle. There was a muddy foot print on the back seat and there was still dirt on the console and in the cup holders. On a good note they really made sure the tires were very nice and shiny. Thank you Stokes Volkswagen for your carefree maintenance. However, I am not so sure it is me that is "carefree" with my vehicles maintenance as it is your employees and maintenance technicians. The only reason I'm giving a two stars is because dispite their work on my car their car sales associates are great. They have been very helpful in looking at new vehicles and never pushy which is rare in dealerships. I would still recommend them for buying a car just never take it there for maintenance. read more
