We came here after having lunch down the road. We did a tasting of the 5 dry wines they had that day. The Riesling and Chambourcin were both excellent. We bought a bottle and some glasses to drink on the patio since it was a beautiful fall day. They do provide wine openers and plastic cups outside, but we prefer drinking out of glass and they were only $3.50 each. The view of the little pond/lake was beautiful and the trees were turning. The ambiance was 5 stars. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of their wines. read more

Great local winery close to Seven Springs, PA. Came on a rainy afternoon but we made the best of it. Great tasting room and store. They also offer pizza for sale, chips and salsa and some cheese plates. You can however bring in your own food and snacks! Dogs are allowed on leashes in the yard too. The tastings are free, but you should offer tip naturally. They had live music today (Saturday) as well. Rental cabana/tents are available for reservation if you want guaranteed seating and private area. Service was very attentive and everyone was very friendly. read more

Such a cute winery!! The scenery is amazing. So peaceful and perfect for a girls day. They host events here too. You can't tell by the layout that they have a lot of weddings here (which would be the best scenery ever!) Be prepared you might not have service on the drive and at the venue it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. The only downfall is that you can't buy by the glass. If you want to drink, you have to get a bottle but they do offer tastings! It is such a cute place; I can't say that enough. read more

This place would be my favorite winery, if not for the terrible hospitality. The wine is tasty and the venue is beautiful, but it's a hassle to come here. First of all they treat you like a criminal and make you buy a bottle of wine before you can go get a seat even if you have your hands full. Then they don't even open it for you, they make you go outside to a table and open it yourself. If they are going to do this, their bottles should have screw lids, but they are corks, so if you have any kind of arthritis in your hands or are otherwise unable to use a manual cork screw, you will be out of luck. All they sell here is bottles of wine, you can't buy it by the glass. Most other comparable places I've been to in the area serve alcohol from other local places as well and I've never been to a local winery where you can't just buy a glass on its own. The first time I was here and experienced this, I just thought it was because they were short-staffed. But no, evidently this is how they run their business all the time. They sometimes have a local pizza place there to sell pizza. There are plenty of other wineries and breweries around to go to that aren't so inhospitable to their customers, I would much rather patron those places. I would only come here again if there was a band that I really wanted to see. read more

I arrived at Stone Villa Wine Cellars on a late Wednesday afternoon to buy a bottle of wine for a friend. It was quiet, and when I entered, Aaron, the tender greeted me. He warmly welcomed me and walked me through the various dry reds they had. The unfiltered Cabernet was the best cab I've ever tasted. I tasted eight different wines and each of them, whether they be bold or soothing, or delightful. It was clear that they truly know what they are doing here and that the only wine that gets bottled is wine that has been tried and proven true. Aaron was even kind enough to give me a tour of the fermentation and bottling rooms. After this, I enjoyed the sunny afternoon on the back patio area overlooking a beautiful pond. I know only left with three bottles of wine, one which Aaron offered to me freely, but I was also left with an unforgettable impression of this pleasant place. Five stars for sure. read more

We hosted my friends bridal shower here, it's a $400 charge to rent a cabana which holds 32 people and You get that money back in gift card and can be used to buy wine for your event and the card does not expire. So in comparison to other wineries that is a good deal. The day of our event was the same day as their fall festival which they had on Facebook page from 11-5. Our shower and bride to be was showing up at 1:00. We arrived (3 car loads of food, coolers, decorations, etc..) at 11:00 only to be told they don't open til noon. So we sat in the parking lot til 11:45 when I finally went inside and asked if we could please get in. We weren't gonna have enough time to set up. I got a smart answer from some woman standing by the register and she said something like "well you're in now right" which took me back a little. Then we get into my name and they are looking for the $400 gift card, that took a minute to find cause they had the name spelled wrong. Okay, simple mistake. So now we should be on our way in with our car loads of stuff when a gentleman tells me we have to bring it all through the building first when our cars are right beside an "exit" path. So I begged to please let us use that path cause honestly it's ridiculous to make us walk all the way around and back down to our cabana on an 80 degree day. At this point, I was not feeling any warm fuzzy vibes from anyone who works there. I had never been here before and this is where the bride to be wanted the party so be it. We go get set up. Now time to buy wine, it's packed inside as i figured which is why I planned to be there upon opening which didn't work out cause they wouldn't let us in. Anyway, I will say then a very nice woman came over and helped us pick 12 bottles of wine lickety split and we head to our cabana with all the wine for party. Now realized we don't have an opener, so carry it all back in to get it opened. At that time we asked if there'd be any way we could have an extra table, we were told we could, then someone walked out and looked at our set up and said no you have all the tables allowed ( i am rolling my eyes at this point with this place honestly). In the end we made the best of it. The music was good, the wine is okay- decent enough, pretty atmosphere, kid and dog friendly. The fall festival didn't look to be much to write home about or maybe I missed something, I thought there were supposed to be vendors and such, but I didn't see anything other than pizza truck. Would I ever come back here, maybe. Would I host something here again, no. Customer service needs some work in this place. read more

I love this place! I typically like big, bold, California wines but there are so many varietals here that I enjoy. Especially the white wines....and I am not usually a white wine fan. Terrific winery. We have been here several times. This time was when we made it here before it was ready to close. Just in time, and the wine was very good. I don't remember liking all of the dry wines so much. The Chambourcin was my favorite. I purchased (2) bottles of this one and we got 6 other bottles. That one I want to drink on Christmas. It's a special one that tastes good being a dry red and all. The server was super nice and instead of just giving me a sample, he had some remaining in the bottle and just filled up my glass. Nice winery visit on our way to Ohiopyle State Park. A nice gentleman who works there took our pictures outside and gave us valuable info about the place. Wish I'd have known beforehand that we could bring in any of our own food we wanted (just not alcohol, of course) and that it could be enjoyed outdoors on the patio while listening to live music against the pond setting. Next time I'll know. We sampled wines -- you get to pick 6 from a list and it's free. The only downside is that all they have to nibble on is some generic crackers from a table nearby. They could do much better in providing tasty treats with which to sample wine. The guy pouring for us was very pleasant and a good conversationalist. As for the wines, most of the grapes come from the Eerie area. The ones I tasted were pretty good. I love Rieslings but I have to admit I've had better ones. I did, however, find 3 wines I liked of the 6 I tried and bought them plus some cheese and crackers and chocolates for us to have while listening to the band outdoors. They have a nice gift shop of wines and accessories. We even bought some wine to take with us to Out of the Fire Restaurant, knowing in advance that it was a BYOB venue. The patio was also very beautiful and relaxed. The lake is beautiful and you can see where they used to grow their grapes for their wine. The music was great too! Have been here a couple times now and I had a negative experience at my first visit but a much better one the second time around. I think my negative experience the first time was rooted in the fact that I came with a group as party of a bachelorette party which I do think was frowned upon by the business. More more recent experience with my husband was more consistent with what I expect from a winery visit. Tastings available with lots of wine choices. They do have a very nice patio where you can sit and drink your wine and enjoy occasional live music as well. You are permitted to bring your own food/snacks in but your bags will be inspected first. I'm glad I gave this place a second chance despite my initial negative experience which I do not think is representative of a typical visit and I look forward to returning. read more

CM and I visited Stone Villa this past Sat. when we were in the area to visit another nearby winery specializing in fruit wines. Having read the reviews, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I decided to take a chance, since it was so close to our other stop. I'm glad I did, since CM and I had a pleasant time here. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I didn't feel that the security was overbearing. The only encounter we had with it was a brief stop at a table outside the front door of the tasting room, where I opened my picnic basket to show an older gentleman what was inside (he just took a brief look and didn't even poke around in it). Frankly, the bag check at Kennywood is more intrusive than what I experienced here. Once we left the tasting room for the porch, nobody bothered us at all, and we didn't feel as if we were being watched closely. Then again, we were just a couple, so things may be different if you're in a large group. The tasting room, while not quite as attractive as the one at the other winery we visited, was nevertheless still pleasant. At the tasting bar, you indicate which wines you want to try by checking them off on a list, and the assistant gives you your samples in order from dryest to sweetest. Because we were the youngest customers, we were carded before we were served our samples (the assistant remarked that she thought I was younger than I am, which I took as a compliment). I tried six wines, including semi-dry Riesling, semi-sweet Riesling, Niagara, Stonegria, and two more that I can't recall. As others have noted, the wines here are on the sweet side; the semi-dry Riesling was typical of other Rieslings I've had, and the semi-sweet Riesling was sweeter than them. Knowing that CM enjoys his wine on the sweeter side, I opted for the Stonegria ($11.95), which was a bit sweet for my taste, but was nevertheless quite mellow and sippable, and paired well with our snacks of cheese, crackers, prosciutto, and chocolate. Despite the setting, it's important to note that only 5% of the grapes used in the wines produced at Stone Villa are grown on the property--most are imported from the Erie area. After purchasing the Stonegria, we went outside to the porch and were seated by the porch supervisor. The porch is a really nice setting, and contains picnic tables that look out on a pond and some vineyards. If you visit during the weekend, there is live entertainment--the day of our visit, there was an oldies cover band playing. I'm not sure if this is typical, but most of the other customers we saw were in their 40s-60s--so if you're looking for a hipster setting, this definitely isn't your scene (try Pittsburgh Winery in the city). Several of the other customers were dancing, but despite being somewhat inebriated, we decided not to join in the revelry. We spent a little over an hour on the porch, and enjoyed some great people watching. Overall, we had a good time at Stone Villa. If you're in the area or enjoy sweeter wine, it's worth checking out, and the setting is quite idyllic. Having said that, if our visit was representative, it was very busy, so you may want to come during the week if you don't enjoy large crowds. It's definitely a nice stop if you happen to be in the area! read more

I have visited this winery before, but never gave a review. It's on a lovely piece of property with a lake. We always come on a weekend as there is usually a band playing. Sometimes it's jazz, sometimes oldies or cover band. You are allowed to bring your own food, but your cooler/ picnic basket will be searched before entering the building. Reasonably, they want you to buy their wine and not bring beverages from outside. You will not be seated on the patio until you have purchased wine. They offer 6 tastings. I tend to like sweet wine and we were happy to purchase the Niagara and the Villa Sangria. One bottle to drink there and one to take home. Small cheese/ meat plates available for purchase. I had brought our own cheese, crackers and chocolates. After showing our wine purchase to staff, we were given a choice of a table on the patio, grass, picnic table in sun. We were lucky to get the patio table as there was a good sized crowd. There is a table to uncork your wine and plastic cups, in case, you don't have your own wine glasses. As this was a holiday, there was a caterer offering a hotdog or taco platter with one side. We got the taco platter with corn salad. I wish I could remember the name of the family catering because their food was very good. We drank the Niagara and liked it better than what we have had at other local wineries. As for the Villa Sangria, we haven't opened that one yet. There is a nice calendar of events. I saw they are planning a "sangria weekend" and a birthday celebration for the winery later in the summer. I consider a winery as an adult venue; although there were a few children there. They get bored quickly as there is nothing of interest for them. read more

They have a shop where you can purchase their flavors and many gift baskets for sale (reminded me of Napa). The wine was pretty tasty - I ended up purchasing a couple of bottles. Compared to the other wineries we visited, this one was not up to par or as friendly. We wanted to buy a glass of wine and sit outside to enjoy. You can't do that here. You must buy a bottle. If you do not, you can't even consider sitting outside on their property. I'd recommend the other wineries in the area though! read more

Great place to relax listen to some music and have some good wine. If your looking for a place to mooch off of the owners by enjoying the music and not buying anything. This isn't the place to go. You can sample and leave. If you stay and enjoy the music it's 1 bottle for every 2 people. Very simple. My husband and I go at least once a month and the reason they have so many rules is because of idiot customers trying to bring other alcohol on to their property . Which is a big fine to Stone Villa. The Owners are awesome and Fair. I would highly recommend. read more

This was a great find on my visit to Pittsburgh. There was free wine tasting which allowed us to select a great bottle of wine. The Stone Villa is located right on the side of a little pond and after you purchase a bottle of wine you can sit outside and enjoy. I have been to many wineries in a fair number of states and have never experienced the treatment like at this place. Showed up today at this winery with my wife and another couple to try some wine and sit out on the lawn where a band was playing. As with other wineries, we brought a cooler with some cheese and snacks and some chairs. As we approached, a sign directed all that they MUST enter via the store. I suggested to my friend who was carrying a couple chairs,(as was I) we set the chairs at the wooden fence and pick them up on the other side. We were quickly informed by a sour faced young man, that NO, all belongings MUST go with us through the door. So we lug the chairs to this dour young fellow who informed us that he must search our cooler, bag and look at the chairs. What a warm welcome (not). He searched our belongings thoroughly. So we make it through security check one and into the winery. Since our hands were full we proceeded through the back door to set up our spot, only to again be stopped by another security check point who informed us that we could NOT enter the back yard without purchasing wine. Our intention was to set up and come in for some leisurely wine tasting, instead we were forced to dump our stuff onto a holding table, pick out and pay for some wine and then carry everything out to the yard area. While the wine wasn't bad, it seems to me that these proprietors have a lot to learn about how to treat customers. I felt very un welcomed,and wouldn't return, nor recommend this to others. I certainly get the need to control what shows up at the winery, but this is a winery for goodness sakes, not a frat house. There are surely more subtle and sophisticated ways to do this without making every respectable customer feel violated by these gauche measures. read more

The wine here is average at best. The owners are unfriendly and rude. Lots of rules and lots of uncomfortable stares from management. I'm not sure what their issue is but in my experience if you treat people with respect you will receive respect in return. read more
