These guys were a great help. We purchased landscaping beach stones. My truck could not take the full weight of the pallet so i had to make 4 trips. Every time i came back the hand loaded the stones (75LB bags). There prices were average. All and all cool helpful people. read more

Mario, the manager, certainly makes sure that his customers are well taken care of, from what I observed while waiting to get my bags of sand loaded. When I mentioned to one of the employees sitting just a few feet away from me -- I couldn't move further away in their tiny office -- that I would feel more comfortable if he put his mask over his nose he just shrugged it off by saying he couldn't breathe with his mask over his nose. read more

Before going there to price some small/medium pebbles for my garden, I was afraid their prices may be too high for my budget, because I had previously gotten quotes from other places in the area that were really astronomical. My fear turned out to be unfounded. I found Stone Yard to be such an easy place to go buy supplies for my garden. Not only are they super helpful about loading the materials, but also friendly and available to answer any and all questions you may have. I wanted to post an update because the Stoneyard has grown a tremendous amount and their stock is several times what it used to be. I have been watching this company stock more variety of stones but now their selection i nothing short of amazing. They have also landscaped a patio outside their sales building to include an example of the pavers they can install and a fireplace and huge barbecue island they can build for you. The owner of this business, Brad Lefevbre, is a noted landscape designer and pool builder from what I have heard in La Canada. I have seen many examples of his work and came close to putting a bid on a house where he had designed the entire landscape including multiple magazine worthy private patios off of guest rooms and library and entry with a fire pit and another with a fountain, a giant pool with a beach entry and huge slide, a sport court and a bar island and barbecue/stove island which could beautifully host three caterers preparing for a couple of hundred guests! It seems that no project is too small or too large for this designer and his company. I even recently saw him briefly featured on a tv program about a home being built by a well known tv celebrity. His designs at that house were excellent. The Stone Yard also carries soil amendments and soil covers, cobblestones, trees with different varieties featured each month, a lot of succulents, and now they have a large assortment of tools of what looks like a more professional grade (meaning they will last with use, not fall apart like a lot of "hardware store" cheap imported models. If you want helpful and friendly service and great prices please visit this place. Just walking around and seeing the assortment of materials may trigger your design inspirations you have been looking for. read more

LOVE IT here! First- I tried to get rocks at Home Depot. 1100 pounds of the wrong rock showed up (800 in a pallet at the store I declined to take home when I checked first, and 300 on my driveway!!! :-( It was an ordeal to return, at least 2-3 hours out of my time to just return it. Then I went to Sunburst. UGH. The lady who seemed to be running the place was RUDE, snappish, yelling at customers and staff, and was MORE INTERESTED in closing up than helping the customers in front of her. THEN- I came to Stone Yard and was helped by 3 awesome guys- Brenden and Mario in store, and Andy did the load up for me, which I appreciated after moving SO much the day before. They were super helpful- answered novice questions, and good senses of humor are always appreciated in my book. They have a good selection- clearly laid out, nice sample section by the front door so you can touch/see/feel without dirty plexi-glass giving incorrectly shaded hue to the rocks,(some of the Home Depot black rocks are coated in a sticky tar like substance that stays on your hands!!) Andy was quick to help load up the car, and the stuff I wanted that wasn't available because it sold out, Brenden gave me a date-3 days from now- when more will be in. The office is clean, the environment is nice, and the prices are very reasonable! They're big enough to have a great selection- but small enough you don't need a golf cart to get around the grounds and see everything- AND---- you get what you want, without hassle!!!! read more

This past month has been my first major foray into DIY, as I'm re-landscaping my mother's yard from dead grass to a more water-wise yard. In terms of hardscape, Stone Yard has been amazing. I got the gravel and pavers I needed, delivery was easy and it's a very comfortable place to go to whether you're a pro or novice (I'm a tiny girl who sometimes will get mean or pitying looks at Home Depot). I absolutely see myself coming back for any future projects, but with one caveat: I am taking off one star for the giant pile of unbagged mulch that is currently sitting in my driveway. Apparently, I wasn't vocal enough (or not caffeinated enough) to verify I was getting mulch for only ONE area of my yard (something clearly written down on the paper with my figures and dimensions). I trusted them to do the calculations and ended up with a serious pile of, "what the heck do I do with this??" When I called to see if they had any advice, I was told I'd get a call right back. No call. Sad face. Giant mess. Their prices and customer service are otherwise stellar for the rock. But next time, I'm spending extra money and buying bagged mulch, or going elsewhere for garden stuff. UPDATE 8/4/14: Brendan (sp?) followed up with me and helped us get rid of the mulch! Seriously, we tried giving the stuff away and putting in the back yard. There was still a ridiculous amount left. It's nice to know customer service still exists, and I've been recommending Stone Yard to anyone who will listen. They also now have bagged 75lb sand, which makes my smaller projects much easier to tackle. read more

Following up on a friend's recommendation, I paid a visit to the Stone Yard to purchase materials for a landscaping project. Although I had reviewed their available materials on their website, when I arrived, it was clear that I was going to need some assistance. The staff took the time to explain the differences between the various flagstones and provided a written price list for my convenience. After selecting my flagstone, they helped me calculate the amount of sand and decomposed granite that I would need to complete the project properly. When I completed the job I was astonished to note that I had only a few extra shovels of sand and exactly the right amount of decomposed granite. It's this level of service coupled with their honesty that makes the Stone Yard the one and only place you'll need to visit. Their prices are also the lowest in the area. But it's being able to trust the people that I do business with that will always be foremost in my mind. read more

Stoneyard has tons -literally - of rocks, boulders, pavers, flagstones, bulk bark chips, and decomposed granite at reasonable prices (the flagstone isn't the high quality you get back east though; it does flake). The staff is helpful, and they will truck it to your house for a reasonable price, although they may dump it curbside if your driveway is narrow. My only gripe with Stoneyard is that they accept credit cards very reluctantly, even though they advertise that they do. They will tell you their machine is broken, or that they really want cash. read more

Mario was incredibly helpful, and took quite a lot of time showing us what they had and helping us, even though we were only buying a small amount for our garden. Just had a wonderful experience with a mulch purchase and delivery from StoneYard. Mario helped me figure out how much mulch I needed over the phone and then squeezed in a last-minute, next day delivery request for me - for the day before Thanksgiving. Mario was GREAT, the delivery was-so-on-time-it-almost-made-me-cry, and the driver was incredibly kind and considerate regarding a couple of our trees (near our driveway) that could've sustained damage from the truck dumping the mulch, but didn't, because the driver was a pro. Our trees are fine, the mulch looks great, and our yard is very happy. Thank you, Mario and StoneYard, for the excellent product and service. VERY appreciated. I will be back. read more

Ooof, I LOVED ordering from Stone Yard 3 years ago when we first did our backyard, but this year we needed to reorder some base gravel and dg to fix spots some plumbing work had to dig up, and while I was thrilled they had our previous order on file to match materials and offered a fair price, the delivery was a doozy. They gave a 2 hr window and in the final 10 minutes showed up with a dump truck (last time they arrived with a forklift as well as our driveway is long and narrow) and when my husband moved the garbage bins for them to park they just dumped the gravel all in the street where the bins had bin, in front of our neighbor's house! I called and was informed there would be a second delivery load (30 later beyond window) and they'd bring the forklift then, fine. So I took my kid's to class. When I returned, thinking they'd surely not leave a pile of gravel in the street for us to haul 100 ft down the driveway to the backyard, I found I was mistaken. They had brought the forklift, and tho it had fit 3 years ago it apparently no longer did, so they had dumped the 2nd load in our driveway and left the first pile (better in the driveway than the street but STILL, makes for much more work for us - moving both piles before sundown as not to piss off neighbors/take up parking spots). I was slightly impressed that they had apparently waived the delivery fee after that whole mess, but NOPE, a few minutes later, the delivery truck returned and admitted he'd just heard/added wrong and needed the full delivery fee. Wow. Service here has changed. I really hope I don't need to buy anymore stone, but if I do I will look elsewhere. read more
